I'm from (and still live and work in) Evansville, IN -Andy Timmons' hometown. I was teaching guitar at a local music store (circa 2007) and giving a lesson to a student whom I showed an Ace Frehley-sounding lick. I happened to comment that while the lick was all over the place in rock guitar, the fastest I'd ever heard it played was on an Andy Timmons tune called "Groove or Die." We gave it a listen, played the lick, and both agreed Andy played it faster than either of us would ever manage. When the lesson was over, we walked out onto the main showroom of the store only to discover than Andy was actually in the store talking to the owner (Andy was back in town to visit his dad, Gene). I told Andy that we had JUST been listening to one of his tunes and asked if he would mind showing us that particular lick at tempo; he was more than happy to oblige. Both me and my student were floored. A great memory... Andy's an amazing person and one helluva guitar player!
How dare you not even mention Andy Timmons, Andy! 😉😂😂 Both of you are very inspiring and mesmerizing to watch! The rest of us would be happy to have a quarter of the talent that each of you just displayed!
I think this happened because Mr. Big was playing in Dallas. Andy lives in McKinney and it created a good opportunity. Paul did a clinic at the place that Andy regularly plays at (Guitar Sanctuary).
I'm a depressed person but every time I see these guys talk they give me such life inside. The people who have these guys in there lives should be really greatful.
it's such a stark contrast of all the Human Potential I see on these videos and later unplugging coming back to a reality where everyone is rude greedy selfish... sometimes it's too brutal
@@theharvardyard2356 The Line Up will be: 1. Andy Timmons: guitar 2. Paul Gilbert: guitar 3. Marcus Miller: Bass 4. Vinnie Collauitta: Drums 5. Devin Townsend: Vocals😅😅😅
2 of the most genuine chaps who just happen to be wizards of guitar. Amazing. No personal agenda, no ego, just enjoying the instrument and each other’s company.
@@davidramos4317 so I’ve got an Eastman sb59 with the Lollar Imperials and it sounds really similar to whatever Andy has…I think that’s why I like the way his neck pickup sounds so much.
Andy Timmons has tone all day, and everything he plays is musical. Paul Gilbert is groovy and equally musical. Two of my all time favorites, together. Thank you.
I can't begin to tell you how cool it was to be in the room while this went on. I'm so glad Sweetwater captured this for people to see how two pros can come together with no practice and make mind blowing music with their guitars.
Just F'ing epic. Two virtuosos grooving off of each other and killing it. This is magic and what makes me love UA-cam. This kind of content is priceless.
The level of command and mastery of the guitar is just out of this world. They can jam perfectly on the spot on any tune, any key. One pick a song and the other gets it immediately and they start a jam... I am guitar player myself. I have been playing for 20yrs and done tons of jam.... but these guys are "not of this earth" (for those who get the reference).
And yet it still has the single coil flavour, with the clarity and articulation. Helped by not being over saturated, and I suspect most of all, the person playing it.
Always a breath of fresh air to see two pros pick each other's brain and show us how it's done. So glad they showed love to Trower. AND Question Mark & The Mysterians! Bill Haley jam, I believe Andy even mentions Leslie Gore. Priceless.
This is just the kind of thing that makes guitarists stop, watch and smile. Two of my favorite people just doing what they love and thankfully we get to share in that moment.
I love how they're both masters at their craft and there's still the slightest bit of vulnerability when next to another proclaimed guitar legend talking about how they approach things. Shows you that no matter how good you think you are there's always an element of feeling like not knowing it all or being caught off guard with something you're not comfortable with and room for growth and learning. I've been playing for well over a decade but still see myself as an amateur and seeing that really re-affirms that what we do as guitarists is a personal journey and there's no road-map for this thing we love
Thank God this stuff is circling back around. Andy’s tone is unbelievable and Paul is my all time favorite ever. Second Heat is the best dual guitar album of all time in my opinion
Paul is such a warm kind funny guy but you have to see him live to fully appreciate how amazing he is ,,i saw him support satriani years ago in Glasgow UK ,,wow his tone was next level ,,he blew the crowd away ! Charming how the shredders come full circle !
two of the best players from an era known for shredders. however, the phrasing abilities possessed by these two may be unrivaled anywhere right now. Wow!
THIS is the greatest thing I've seen on UA-cam in a long time. I had the pleasure of meeting Andy at the Woodshed Guitar Experience, and he's truly a great guy with great sense of humour and incredible humility. And of course, Paul Gilbert is Paul Gilbert! Thank you, Sweetwater and Ibanez for this!
Two of my favorite guitar players that both have an enormous music vocabulary with an equal dose of respect to music, each other, and fans. The ability to call up almost any tune note for note and improvise as well, amazing.
Wow- The knowledge is so deep yet right at their fingertips, on a dime, at will and at all times. That was the coolest jam I’ve ever heard. :) Hats off Andy & Paul. That was sick!

No John Jorgenson? At least sneak in lick from back on terra firma 😂
These two seriously need their own podcast, show, whatever. I’d watch every single second of it. Pure audio gold.
Paul and Andy, PLEASE do this on a regular basis!
I agree! Jams like this were one of the primary reasons I got into music in the first place.
