I used to listen to that piece lying on the bedroom floor with my dog on Sundays last year.. he'd sleep next to me, a senior dog and an old friend. Your guitar lulled him into sleep every time. He passed away a few months ago and yesterday I heard that piece somewhere on Instagram, it made me cry and today I got recommended this video I've never seen before. Dan, I get it. :) Thank you, Andy for the decades of wonderful, amazing music you have given us, I remember spending nights with friends during college some 20+ years ago just listening to your playing, all of us wannabe players. You have made the world a better place to live.

Emailed Andy (on behalf of everyone) to see what the piece that made Dan cry is called, and here is his reply:
    "Hi Adrian!
Thanks for the kind words :)
The song is called "Here Lies The Heart" and is very much a tribute to Chopin who I love dearly.
It will be part of an upcoming record called "Bitter Suites: The Outlier Nocturnes", a collection of solo guitar pieces.
    Keep playing!

I'm glad everyone gets to see what a wonderful person Andy Timmons is, and what silly good tone he has. Someone on here said it perfectly, Andy doesn't play any throw-away notes, not even when he's unplugged and talking with people...he is always purposeful and in emotional-tune with his guitar. What can't be understated is, how Andy's constant guidance pushed us to design something better than we ever could have without him. Andy is a force that brought us to a higher level. Thanks Andy, Dan, and Mick!

Living in DFW, hitting all the shops and shows, you hear endless stories about how humble and nice Timmons is. My own brief encounter at Dallas Guitar Show: was playing a BadCat HotCat, deciding between it, a Suhr Badger 30 and a Friedman Smallbox 50(which I took home) when none other than GearMannDude said, "Andy Timmons just stopped to watch you play." Me, "Nuh uh." GMD, "Yeah, he was checking out." Glad he told me after he left. Honestly, I'd have been happy to chat him up, and from what I hear, he'd have been happy as well. Saw him last year doing the Hendrix thing with Josh/JHS. He's just so darn likeable, with the most tasty, tastiest? Playing.

Dan’s unashamed attitude reacting emotionally towards guitar tones and notes is inspiring. It shows how passionate he is about guitars. It also shows the power of music. Sometimes we make ourselves to busy with life and pushing emotions down and music allows us (sometimes even forces us) to relax our minds and allow those emotions to come up. It’s moments like these when we can forget the things that separate us and have unity. Man, good stuff Andy and thank you Dan and Mick for providing an avenue for this to happen.

Andy is an amazing guitar player, don't get me wrong, very knowledgeable but he has something that not all the virtuosos has: that feel, the taste, and that's something that makes you feel, no need of thousands of notes, fancy scales, just feel, articulations and taste. When Andy started playing that magical progression my eyes were flitting back and fourth between Dan and Mick. It really was something else. The tone; the note choices; the dynamics; just wow! 'Andy makes Dan cry (really)' will be one of those vids people will return to time and time again. Hearing that immediately makes you want to play guitar. Friday night in with the lads at TPS! I could wax lyrical for hours phwoar...

For anyone interested, Here Lies The Heart ( the tune that gets Dan going ) borrows from Chopin's Etude No. 10 in E major. It says a lot that, almost 200 years after Chopin wrote the piece, people are still frequently moved to tears by its beauty. Chopin himself was very proud of it.
It's been reworked many times by subsequent generations who recognise the especially
melancholy nature of the melody. Known to some fans of Chopin as "Tristesse" ( Sorrow )
it later gained further popularity as a song, ( How Deep Is The Night ) after words had been added.

This is honestly amongst the greatest lessons I have ever received in how to approach a guitar as a musical instrument in general. It's not only about how to shape the tone. What you gentlemen don't say (but can be clearly seen) is just as important as what you say and present. Your passion, dedication, talent, wisdom and humbleness is what occasionally creates these fabulous moments worth living for. We have experienced several of those in this episode.

One of my favorite parts besides the beautiful "Her lies the Heart" is Andy saying "hey buddy." Andy totally feels for Dan and that is what is amazing about Andy. I met Andy at a show in Indianapolis and the guy was so down to earth, talking about everyday stuff. We forget these guys are human even though their playing is other worldly. Andy has become one of my greatest inspirations, even over Satch. He's just a dude from Evansville, IN that has taken guitar to another place in my heart. Every time I watch this I cry with Dan.

I totally would’ve cried too Dan! Dang it, I almost cried just watching you cry. I get it, it’s the tone but also a spiritual thing sitting that close to something like that because you can literally feel heat coming off of it. Since you possess so much knowledge on that blues breaker style transparent tone, I can imagine hearing it played so beautifully up close is unreal. Jealous! 😎 Best UA-cam channel out there.
    Cheers.

The power of music: I just want to say - listening to Andy's very moving piece, I've just spent 40mins+ playing, VERY loosely, my own, much shorter, version, listening carefully to my intonation, experimenting with different fretboard positions. My point? How inspiring it can be to watch a true master like Andy whose choice of notes, whose phrasing, technique, attention to tone just makes you reach for your own guitar and lose yourself.

It's amazing how Andy's tone never gets muddy. There's always that very musical sparkle, thanks to the way he dials everything in (and that treble bleed). When he digs in he gets this kind of "chirp" in the notes that really complements the whole vibe of his playing.

Andy Timmons really comes off as a very down to earth man. I always gravitate towards him or Eric Johnson when in the mood for guitar focused music. All the tonal palates fill so much space without being overbearing. What a genuinely touching moment caught on video when he plays "Here lies the heart"... In a world of staged reality - this was so extremely refreshing. Just a great video... sorry I came upon it so late.

I am coming up with $4,854 before tax and not including cables nor that little routing box under the tuner (maybe that comes with the switch board??)... so safe to say about 5500-6000??? for us common folk to try and replicate.

Listening to Andy Timmons is a spiritual experience for many of us. His phrasing and expression connects and speaks to our souls. Many of us watching this brilliant post from TPS probably share in this sentiment, as we share a passion for music, chasing tone, and trying different gear in the hopes that that next pedal will be the one to somehow make us play the way we dream about. More than anything though, we love Andy (and not just for his unearthly playing, but also that when you experience him this way, it makes it OK that most of us will never even come close to this stratosphere...yet it's still ok). We can appreciate that someone as genuine and kind as Andy "got there" on our behalf. We can listen in wonder. We can cry. We can be eternally grateful for the blessing and goodness of the experience. Thank you TPS. Thank you Andy.

Meeting Andy briefly at Sweetwater Gearfest was truly an honor. He is truly a very humble and inspiring individual. He talks about Eric Johnson's tone with great respect, but in my mind his tone is equally great. If I thought duplicating his rig would give me that tone I would do it in a minute, but unfortunately the gear doesn't come with his fingers, ear, knowledge, skill, experience, ... etc. (where do I stop). And his use of the trem is in the same league as Jeff Beck, who is revered for his unduplicable skill. He talks about the greats in this video, e.g. Carlton, Ford, Lukather, ...etc. I include Andy in that category. Thanks for a great episode! It will be interesting to see the stats on this one. LOL
