This is the song I listened to after my first real heartbreak. Ironically I sit here, mind drifting back to this song. My brother died in a car accident last night. This song perfectly encapsulates how I feel. Paralyzed, numb, staring down a barrel, and at the other end, the void. I hadn't talked to him in 6 months. He left this world thinking I hated him, and I'll never get to tell him just how much I love him. Just how much I miss him. Not in this life at least. L'appel du vide. I love you dude, and I'll never forget you.

I hear you - been aware of JF for years but never actually listened to anything. Been going through a rough period for nearly a year and this has helped in many ways... a light switched on - not least because he has been so prolific and I have so much of his material so help me heal. He's also been very generous in interviews discussing his influences and has turned me onto so much more music other than Hendrix, The Cure, Velvets, JD etc. I have become aware of Zappa, King Crimson and several other artists I was either unaware of or had dismissed.

Unlike most other music, I can only listen to my John Frusciante playlist every now and then, as if the music is too powerful and way too good, so it needs to be taken in small doses. The unique voice of his guitar brings out feelings that are berried too deep for other music to even come close. On some evenings though, I let myself loose and I overdose. That is when I really come to life.:)

From what I understand, he simply recorded the whole thing on a cassette recorder and played it backwards. How he molded the whole thing together with such perfect timing is a mystery to me though. Very simple technology mixed with a bit of Magik.

Hell nah, the main riff is played conventionally, as is the solo towards the end. The weird sounding guitar overdub that courses throughout the song is what's played backwards. It's the same effect The Beatles used on "Tomorrow Never Knows."

His artistic use of the reverse delay is incredible. In case any of you haven't used it, try it and you will appreciate this kind of stuff even more. I've only had the opportunity to do so in small amounts but you have to set the delay at a timing that very specifically matches what you are doing and it can be really hard to do it and get it to sound as smooth and articulate as John.

    • @b-nanaman7986
      @b-nanaman7986 2 роки тому +7

Its not reverse delay. He's literally playing the track backwards, playing a melody over it, then reversing it again to here the melody as reversed.

Man I feel this song is about describing the life we all live/ lived. All the Reverse Guitar parts depict all the chaos and confusion that surrounds us yet we choose to fight and live each day. It keeps coming back every now and then just as he keeps introducing those guitar parts. And somehow as the Track progresses we get kinda used to it just as we get used to the everyday chaos and struggles in our day to day lives. But the ending is one of the most beautiful pieces of Music that has ever been written. It's more like a conclusion. When it's the end of the road for us our entire life flashes in front of us and we realise what life was all about and how we lived it all in our own terms. Thanks John. Sometimes you don't need a bunch of words . A man and his guitar is all that's needed at times

You just put all my thoughts on this song into a coherent post, thank you, it's like the majority of the song, being reverse, represents the confusing and often stressful nature of life, which is for most of us the majority, but you persevere for the sweet beautiful moments, which are the amazing riffs scattered throughout. The main riff near the end, to me feels like the moment in life where we finally feel the most stable, complete and happy and have come to accept the fractured nature of our being

I sit here in a different world a world turned upside down, everyday has been terrible its 1 year post my mum having cancer after surgery removal only to find its come back and spread to her lungs. They havent given an exact time for her but around 8-12 months is standard. I hope we can all find peace one day in our after life and kill this dreaded disease which affects alot of us and our families. John, please heal my mum with this soothing sound

we have seen and experienced the Chili Peppers and we are amazed, they are a gift that came in a box....
and we have been opening it since day one...
and at the bottom of this box...
    when nearly all is unpacked...
there is a tiny silly beautiful tune...
    just a little tune...
    like a throbbing heart...
    the essence...
it's John Frusciante playing / thinking / daydreaming on the guitar
so sweet as honey and so intense as the Sun in our solar system

I’ve not been doing well really and John Frusciante has been a release for me and I was stuck in my guitar playing I wasn’t really going anywhere and I didn’t feel like I was at my potential then I got into the chili peppers and then John’s solo stuff and now I feeling like a better guitar player now and I have a style of playing and just the music is a way to cool down or think
