Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher are two guitarists who never wanted fame. Now Jimi is way more popular then he ever was when he was alive. Same with Rory he only played for his fans. He never sold out. He was asked to join the Stones and other big bands of that era he refused. Fame is just selling your soul to management to make more hits. :) Peace .
Ok, so I'm an old guy who grew up in the late 60's and early 70's with the likes of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Robin Trower. But Buckethead is light-years ahead. He singlehandedly brought me back my rock guitar roots.

I’ll tell you why, because nobody played songs, I love my parents, hills of eternity, watching the boats with my dad, Escape from inbred mountain, cookoo clocks from hell. Sketches from Spain, sounds exactly like uli jon Roth. For me I would’ve been Finished with guitar players paul Gilbert and eighties guitarist Marty Friedman.. Jason Becker I’d probably still listen to because perpetual burn blows away marty Friedman’s ‘dragons kiss’. All I listened to before I discovered buckethead 2001 was 70s scorpions, Jimi Hendrix recordings and handful of stupid bands like sabotage, forbidden evil, even live at Pompeii 72 absolute worst. Best of bread. laughing. It’s good to know bread on acoustic (in detail, note for note) that is. Nobody can sing it, makes it better.
my friend was made homeless for a few months. i hadnt seen him in overa year and a half, he turned up to my house knocking with a can of monster (we are both kinda skater metal type people) bucket went straight on. and he said "have you heard sunbursts" and we both freaked the fuck out bc of how great it is of a song, he said he was homeless in an alley at stupid oclock in the morning listening to this on his phone, he said he forgot about everything that was bad. and he just had ten minutes of pure bliss. thanks bucket,

He's definitely not the greatest of all time and while he makes great music, he cannot live up to the skill and compositon of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or Frank Zappa, nevermind the countless guitarists releasing music now that go way beyond what Buckethead ever did.
He is a one man show that commands the stage every night, all alone, and he does it to please the audience, not for the fame. His name, identity and face are known by very few and he still has an amazing following and presence. He is humility personified.

Had 2 kids, moved to Montana in ‘95 and just raised my kids. Still listened to all my faves and would hear something on the radio like Audioslave fb or the first time and go wow who the hell is that?! But really kind of got away from music til my kids got older and now turn me onto it. I heard Buckethead for the first time a few weeks ago while driving home from work, listening to Eric Johnson radio on Pandora(I’ve loved him for quite some time) and a song came on that made me look and think wow who the heck is this?! It said Buckethead A Long Days Walk and I thought Buckethead? What kind of name is that? Well I played it loud and went to UA-cam to search for more. Played a few more, loving them all. Got home and looked up who they were, finding out it was just one guy. Kinda got obsessed for a few days, listened to his interview etc. Happy I found him.
