I really think that we are all imposters compared to Jimi. He lived in a time of oppression for being born black. You can hear it in the music. Jimi was on another level.

@@Atezian I can’t hear the oppression in Jimi’s music at all, Robert Johnson? Blind Willie? I can hear it their music but not Jimi’s, all I hear in Hendrix’s music is freedom and liberation. In fact Hendrix went over to Britain and it was a largely white audience he was playing to and accepted by. The old blues guys didn’t like his playing cos they thought it was too “white” and not traditional enough. The only thing oppressing Hendrix was his guitar cos it couldn’t go as far as his mind could.

I was at the lowest point ever in my life tonight. I've been suffering from depression on and off since i was 10 years old. I was hanging out with a bunch of my friends tonight and and all of a sudden i became extremely depressed and told my friends that i was going home because i was tired, but the real reason i was going home was because i was going to kill myself. One of my friends walked me down to the busstop and we talked and i went back together with him to my friends. I got home about an hour ago and listened to Dying Song and i cried from beginning to end because i wanted to die, but I felt i could relate to the pain that John sings about in this song. This song stopped me from commiting suicide.. tank you John Frusciante for saving my life!

I don't know about other people here but I didn't interpret this song as a true suicidal song. It seems to me that this shows how strong the will to live can be once a person finds their purpose. John is still alive and he's doing what he loves and what makes his life worth living. Making music that's simply being listened to in its purest unadulterated form. He's making his heaven and we all need to do the same.

Yes, the first part of the song is sad and dark, but the last part just brings light into the song. It's brilliantly brought and i agree with the meaning you find, but i also think he wants to share the fact that death in itself isn't such a sad thing, but a thing that is the end of our physical being, and altought we might fear it, we lived a great life. I think that would be pretty good since i think he mentionned he doesn't mind dying :)

what I found out was that death and awakening are the same thing, hence why some people go for the death. They are the same thing. With awakening, something must change, old things must fade away, die and with suicide, death, it's the same - reincarnation.

Yesterday I lost an important person, someone I loved really hard. We argued a lot about something that happened and two hours later her mom called me from hospital, telling me that she died in a car accident. I'm a huge fan of John and hearin' this song makes me sad, 'cause I'd just like to go back in time and tell her that I loved her, more than anything in the world. And this song teached me that even if someone dies, or you just lose someone, you will always remember him/her. I don't think I'll be able to carry on with my life easily, but I sure know that this song is a masterpiece. To C, forever in my heart.

I just fell in love with his voice, so soft and silk here. It gives peace to me but in some parts my heart's just broken by its beauty. When I start to listen to that I can't stop, his voice in that song is just unbelievable perfect. Especially I lovce this part when he screams "nothing", so much emotions.

I come back to this song every time because I want to keep fighting, leave this place and be happy with my girlfriend no matter what. Most of the time I feel so wasted and tired and about to give up, but deep down I know I have to keep going, for me, for her, for the future we want to build, and because I'm trying my best to be happy.
John is such a genius and his music always rescued me from falling down the bottom.

John wrote this after listening to a Björk live concert. I'm mostly sure the song didn't come from a place of depression or feeling like he wanted to die or anything like that. Of course there's sadness in it, but only in the same way life has sadness in it. You come and you leave, and the world keeps spinning. The last lines are almost ironic in this context. "Sure's been a full life for me baby" sounds like something Humphrey Bogart would say in a corny death scene. But it's also something one might say contemplatively while leaving your old life behind, where the things you were and the things you said don't matter anymore. Those things matter very little when you are departing for something new, something you don't know yet.
At least that's what I feel about it.

The way I interpret this song is that he's sort of reconciling with the fact that he is at some point going to die and that he will never come back the way he is in this life, but that some part of him will continue on somehow and also thankful for the life he's had so far..
"Never coming back this way, never coming back to this place" and then "But nothing ever is the end, no nothing ever is the end"..
It sounds like a really sad song but it's actually a song full of hope and joy.. at least how i see it:)

I think that most of people don't interpret well when John say about death. Analyzing her songs you will realize that when he say about death, he wanna say about life, that is, finding youself, growing as a human, etc.. the will to the death.
In this song I interpret the "Dying" as chosing another and meangniful life, because when he sign:
"It's sure been a full life for me, baby" is a life without meaning, where everything fit and don't change. Reasserting when he sign: "I'm going away forever, Never coming back this way". So this for me is a song for life, for find youself and make you own heaven.
If you put he past in comparison, the song will make even more sense.
