There is a large push everywhere for powder coated this and powder coated that. I have to say I'm very happy to see that these guys still paint their trailers normally. Anyone who has used powder coated stuff in the winter knows any time it gets a nick or cut in the powder coating itself, corrosion starts to eat it from underneath then starts to come off in big sheets. I'm very happy to see that you use full length rails thay are strong and durable and don't come apart in axedent situations. Good work we build all our trailers with full length rails .
This model has wheel well center supports. The wheel wells on their other dump trailers like the 14k are junk and every one I have seen around town has the wheel wells sagging. It then creates cracks everywhere at the end corners and center as the saggy metal flops up and down as you drive. I had to weld all the cracks and added a 1x1 square tube center support off the shackle/hanger mount up to a plate welded to the bottom of the wheel well, then it was 100% fixed. In the end if they are going to keep using less than 1/8th" wheel wells they need to add center supports. Oh, the ramps barely hold an 8k lb excavator, I plan to add tubing on the underside of the ramps where the edges are bent under like c channel. Those bent under edges flared out so I had to use a sledge hammer to bend the "c channel they formed" back under it straight so it wasn't too wide and would fit in the ramp slide-in mounts. The ramps are straight and not sagging but they flared out at least 1/2". Luckily I have only had to rent an excavator 3 times. The light in the box is great, charging outlet is great, the front box hydraulic the holds the door open died in a year. Otherwise it's been great, the supports are fine I have dumped hundreds of loads of dirt, mulch, gravel, trash, etc. I have even scraped mud out of the bed with my flat blade tractor backhoe. Oh, also I keep a can of rusteum high end universal black paint in the box and spray scratches all around every month or so. The rubber tube covers pop out so I used quad siding cualking to glue them in but also its soft enough to pull out the caps if I ever need to. Nonissues with the light! Picked up the Southland dump (not the HD). I've used various dump trailers, but the little things on this brand are great. The latches for holding the doors back for dumping are one of my favourites. The tray inside the aluminum box (probably newer than this video) are awesome. The rack for hanging chains. The hitch... I could keep going. I'll see how it does for durability (I'm not a heavy user, hence not getting the HD model) but I'm not worried...
Stan , when Grandpa was logging in northern Maine he never bought a trailer from any US trailer manufacturing company all log trailer's built in Canada and hauling 80 to 90 thousand pounds of timber we needed something strong enough, some with our detached trailers built in Montreal , you know skidders are not lite or fella bunchers are even heavier we operated D8's D6C&D dozers so I can relate to what that gentleman was saying, in a nutshell ( KISS) if you know yah know as always God bless yah from Gaffney South Carolina viewer 🙏❤️💯

Several excellent and not so excellent trailers built in Canada. The engineering is well thought out for the most part on this trailer.I have to say,I would not by a painted trailer unless I had too,Hot dip galvanize is the way to go,painted and touched up too many trailers.those ramps, outstanding, nobody enjoys lugging heavy steel ramps.Nice, detailed vid, thanks.
We met stan a year ago at natda and As a trailer mfg myself owning the company i just seen around 30 of these trailers at ritchie bros auction i was impressed on a few things about them but i can tell you i would stay way clear of any trailer 10k and up using a double eye axle spring setup more moving parts more problems , slipper springs are way better for heavier loads i can say one thing I've always told people is the best trailer for you is the one you can afford ! key benefits in all 3 styles of dumps are really just customer preference and their everyday intended usage its a argument in trailer world as far back as ford, chevy and dodge lol
Looks really well thought out. Very impressive. Only thing I'd change, is the swing away doors. I'd like them to swing around and be relatively flush with the side of the trailer. It's rare to see that, but I think it would be handy.
Yup, there are times the trailer may be used where the tail gate(s) has/have to be open - but using the drop-down position on the chains would normally cover that. The exception would be if the trailer has to be backed through a narrow entrance or gate during the dump process, like just within the property line, or close to a wall alongside the place it's being dumped. i would expect there to be a simple means of completely removing the door(s), though, if it's that close.
I have owned my southland trailer just over a year now and it’s been great. I have the SL714 so has the 7k axles. Price for the quality can’t be beat. My only complaint wish they offered a 16 foot version. I load a JD 1025R tractor with backhoe and loader and bucket on it just barely won’t fit without turning the backhoe to the side or hang it out the back or take the front bucket off etc.
Looks like that trailer has some nice design features. I have always preferred Scissor hoist style small dump trailers. They seam to be a bit more stable and longer lasting. As long as it’s sized properly.
I threw 20k of gravel in my southland 14’ hd last week. Hauled it absolutely no problem. Great Trailer coming from a guy that has destroyed several dump trailers😅
@@rogerl8488 almost! I had to remove 2 yards approx. it is by far the most impressive dump trailer I’ve had. One complaint is bottom isn’t great if you are loading big boulders. Other than that, it’s awesome!

I have a southland and first load of gravel I hauled with it was soaking wet 3 inch minus. Ended up with about 13,000 pounds of material in there and dumped it no problem. I've had it 2 years and it been a great trailer so far. My only complaint is when its dumped the back is soo low it will drag when you're not on hard ground. Got stuck while dumping a couple of times in fields. Other than that though I'm quite happy with it
I looked around before I bought a 16' dump trailer, I went with Bee Wise trailer, no problems for 2 yrs now, they run the same type of 3way doors but with stabilizer drop jacks on the corners and a retractable debris net like on the dump truck, also has a 12k winch mounted in the front of the tub
Hay Stan awesome job. Just a thought if you wanted to reach out to him and suggest each military color trailer or dump box sold they donate a % to the veterans. Those tires didn’t even think about the weight of that rock. That blew me away. The trailer we have I’ve was told is like e rated tires or something high end. Anyway they look like run flats with weight like that. I’m impressed.
You need G or H rated tires. E rated tires are 10 ply. I started running 14 and 16 ply trailer tires and they’re actually just as much as the E rated 10 ply. I think I pay 156 for the 14 ply tires. It’s not just the flat surface that’s so much better. It’s the sidewalls. The 14 ply G rated have sidewalls that feel like they are at least an inch thick. 14 ply are rated to hold 110 psi and the 16 ply rated for 120 psi. You can’t believe the difference.
The caulking between welds is HUGE for Rust prevention because paint never gets in there, even 2 week old trailers rust. I have to add it after I buy trailers from the states, but theirs is painted in. 👌 I have a load trail drop and go set up And a diamond c dump trailer. Love them both but south land solved everything I don’t like about both.
With my line of work some of the trailer we have use power down railgates and gravity down railgates, during the summer it doesnt matter what you use, but in the winter how fast you can unload and start your delivery all depends on how cold it is and how heavy the pallets weigh. With the gravity down ones when I fold it out it takes forever to get down to the ground close enough for me to crawl up onto it, in the time it takes to fold out and bring down the gravity down railgate I could be up and in the trailer with the pallet on my the railgate and coming down when using the power down railgates.
I've had a trailer almost exactly like that for the last year or so and used it heavily with no issues at all I was a little skeptical at first because it's different but it's proven to me
A realy Great design. The Hoist REALY strugled with just 5 tons. How would it dump 7 tons? My surmise is the hoist "linkage" needs "tweeked" or the pump is WEEK. My LoadTrail dumps TWICE as fast; with SAME load & with a scissor lift. Allthough speed isn't every thing, the hoist is WEEK. Would've liked to see the MAX LOAD DUMPED! Thank you Sir's for the Excelent vidio and happy safe trailering.
im from canada and specifically bought my trailer with the scissor lift because of the power down. with no power down you can have your box stuck in the air with a chunk frozen in the back. i have a pj
Stan Love this trailer I’m one of the these guys that study before purchase. You have really helped that!! Love that color!! I bought a brand new sierra duramax in 05. Bought it in sand beige. I intentionally bought a truck nearest to the color of job site dirt!! Why because it was the easiest to look good. Not washing the paint off to keep it clean. anyhow do you still like this trailer?? Thanks for another great video!!
Awwesome trailer and the build is way better than American I hate to say. Structural build is stronger too. The two beam under structuer lends to No Dips in the bed, the sissor lift is strong and no give - love the power up & down concept. Positive movement of lift, no hesitation of dump to bed stored. The color - YES(but should have been Olive Drab). If I needed a trailer I would get this. Do they deliver east of Rockies, say to NC?
That there is a nice trailer well built and just look at the workmanship Grade -A- wiring done, not clipped down the frame waiting to get cut and short out . The frame is strongly looking and the lift is divided equally down the center so it will not tip over when dumping.
I am about to buy a new dump trailer. I decided to do the you tube homework and watch trailer videos. I like the looks of this trailer but the squatting your truck does makes me question trailer axle placement, do you feel axle placement is correct? Also those latches that keep the gate closed do you think there is any chance they could come open while driving down the road and what about the upper door strength since they are only secured at the bottom? Really never heard of the brand but I would drive the 400 miles to a dealer if the trailer is that good.
It’s a dump trailer. Axles gotta be back there or it’ll bottom out when tipping. All dump trailers From my experience or tongue heavy. Unless you went with a triple.
could be heavier built . fender breaking off needs strong fender braces .. the floor bending .. paint coming off . the electric cable to truck very stiff in cold weather ..
Too many factors I liked about this trailer I work with the diamond Sea at first glance it looks similar but that backbone structure the tailgate system self-locking and the self locking hitch the aluminum ramps washed you lift that up with one arm I feel like I'm trying to be a bodybuilder every time I take the ramps out of the diamond Sea it's a workout I love the trailer but man sometimes it's a workout I liked what I saw here now if they can only come up with the tarps system the diamond d came up where it I'm just going to say it's a rainbow tarp it starts from the tongue of the trailer and falls to the back of the trailer overlapping not snagging grabbing dragging that's what I have on the trailer I use about to pull my arm out almost every time I have to drag it over branches and root debris stop me and mid pull I think your logo looks really good on that green I say get your big tractor though and test those ramps out and see if he's yanking your chain but I did like the fact that they were lighter than the Arnold Schwarzenegger ones I got to pull out I feel like girly man so wimpy
You can get steel ramps if you want. But I sure the aluminum is rated for that weigh. Also the south land rep was wrong with the 714 16 the hoist is rated 13tons not much more price the 714 14 and bigger 8000 pound axles compared to 7k ones for bit more $ 14 hoist is 8tons.
@@justinsecrist1130 I noticed that too. The hoist on that is 13 tons. Also, those aluminum ramps will handle anything you can put into that trailer. They tested them with a 30,000 lb tractor and they did not fail. 4,000 lb center means together they rated for 8,000 lbs center. You will never put 8,000 lbs in the center of a 6ft long ramp. It will always be distributed.
I wouldn’t have ever driven that truck on the road with that much weight on it. Not enough weight on the front axle and I’m betting the single rear axle and tire weight limit was exceeded. I’m speaking from years of experience with truck and trailer combinations. Very nice trailer though, I’ll be looking into them now as I like the design. Very smart of them to stick with proven designs.
I can’t say that there was a problem with the handling with that much tongue weight. Read my other reply at the top of the comments regarding air helper springs. It’ll change the way you tow forever.
@@Cake41579 I agree with adding air bags on the rear as it will also make the ride a bit smoother when towing. One of the problems are the tire weight ratings You can add all the suspension you want however if the tires aren’t rated for the weight/load it becomes dangerous and just asking for a blow-out or tire separation. I’ve seen both! That’s the biggest reason for the dually it doubles the load rating of the tires in the rear. As I’ve said before too little weight on the front and the steering becomes really light, reducing your overall braking ability and can cause the vehicle to become unstable without enough steering authority/control to correct the trailer away.
Stan I beat the crap out of my old dump trailer most of time loading logs in it I would destroy a new trailer great for stone mulch even as a equipment trailer good luck with it. You should fix your hitch on Alex’s truck bad deal not having load all on the receiver.

Tons of powder coated trailers aren’t prepped properly and moisture gets under it and rust like crazy. I’ll take a good paint for sure!
Stan
Love this trailer I’m one of the these guys that study before purchase.
Nice trailer. Love the ramps. Only nitpick is the hoist seems a little slower than my Maxx D but hey
I’d buy one. But definitely not Amy Green. Lol
Luckily they come in all colors
I love America but as a Canadian. I love Canada . We are a polite odd bunch of smart peeps . 😆
Love the videos
Good looking trailer eh.
Are u doing snow removal this year love them vids if so can we have a vid of u getting the equipment ready
yep- did my first full plow yesterday
Awwesome trailer and the build is way better than American I hate to say. Structural build is stronger too. The two beam under structuer lends to No Dips in the bed, the sissor lift is strong and no give - love the power up & down concept. Positive movement of lift, no hesitation of dump to bed stored. The color - YES(but should have been Olive Drab). If I needed a trailer I would get this. Do they deliver east of Rockies, say to NC?
Id check their dealer network
It is a nice color
Hey has Stanley did the review of the dirt tracks on the skid steer that he grooved to stimulate snow tracks?
That there is a nice trailer well built and just look at the workmanship Grade -A- wiring done, not clipped down the frame waiting to get cut and short out . The frame is strongly looking and the lift is divided equally down the center so it will not tip over when dumping.
Great looking trailer!! John Deere green would look nicer?? Thanks 😊.
I like this trailer how much is it? Did you talk about the price?
Great Trailer….No Dealers Anywhere close to here in Wisconsin🤷🏼♂️
@Dirt Monkey Are those warranties from date of purchase or the units manufacture date?
From date of purchase.
All dump trailers
From my experience or tongue heavy. Unless you went with a triple.
nice color
Aeee hows it going stan hope your start of the week is great
Load it up and give us your honest opinion please.
What are you finding, can you load heavy up front??
Is that a 6inch cylinder?
I will be using it on the day to day basis
I love everything in engineering involved in their trailer design. Only problem I have is your website doesn’t seem to want to work.
6:20 in the vid there's a chihuahua sitting in the back of that grey car 😂
ill take two one for me and one for my son hahahah
could be heavier built . fender breaking off needs strong fender braces .. the floor bending .. paint coming off . the electric cable to truck very stiff in cold weather ..
Im thinking of getting one of these trailers. I have to ask, is there a stronger ramp for them? They dont seem strong enough for a 8k lb skid steer.
Solar charger would be nice option
So is it better then a Diamond C ?
Stan,
What is the price point for that trailer?
I like the trailer especially the bed construction. Although instead of stud frame I rather my trailers still use I beam frames.
😉
I wouldn’t have ever driven that truck on the road with that much weight on it. Not enough weight on the front axle and I’m betting the single rear axle and tire weight limit was exceeded. I’m speaking from years of experience with truck and trailer combinations. Very nice trailer though, I’ll be looking into them now as I like the design. Very smart of them to stick with proven designs.
😊👍
Nice trailer
Stan I beat the crap out of my old dump trailer most of time loading logs in it I would destroy a new trailer great for stone mulch even as a equipment trailer good luck with it. You should fix your hitch on Alex’s truck bad deal not having load all on the receiver.
Do you need a class A when towing this trailer
Old tech! The reason why things were built better back in the day. Don’t try and fix a process that ain’t broke! I want one!
do they have a low boy
Nice trailer….;
