Sebastian was professionally trained as a singer. When he was a teenager, he told his dad that he wanted to be a singer and his dad said, "Ok, but you have to do it right and take lessons."
Thanks dad.
a paltry statement!!!!.....not everyone who studies singing is extraordinary then!!!!...Sebastian has a gift in his uvula and his diaphragm.
@@effeelle695 I didn't say that he was gifted. Did I say that being trained was the sole reason for his ability? No, I didn't. Are you saying he would have been as good without professional training?
@correctlyrics he possibly could have been, but yeah I don't know what dude is on about^
Either way, he was trained. Obviously he has a special gift in general, but the lessons definitely allowed him to hone in those skills and sharpen them
@@judgepage6605 my comment was actually about how cool his father was. And I thought The Vocalyst would be interested to know that he had professional training.
@@judgepage6605he went to Juliard and trained in opera.
When this song was released I was incarcerated and it changed my life....didn't go back since and every time I hear it, I know I made the right choice
good on you for the life altering decisions mate!
Nobody likes a quitter.
Good work. You keep being the best you. NEVER go back.
Sebastian is absolutely in ANY conversation about greatest voice in ROCK..
fax
"Slave to the grind" album is a vocal masterpiece
As much as i appreciate his vocals, its only on studio recordings. His live performance is horrible. Yes its cause of all the other things but still
Try "Wasted Time" from the same band. You'll be blown away. As for a live performance: Skid Row - I Remember You Live in Kawasaki, Japan 1989
As for how big they were? HUGE. "I Remember You" was THE prom song of 1989. At one point they were almost as big as Guns N Roses.
Seb was always a sex symbol in the late 80s. In 1989 Christina Applegate (Married With Children) took Brad Pitt to the MTV music awards, and she left with Sebastian Bach...
Yup his vocals with Wasted Time is insanely out of this world
I couldn't agree more, WASTED TIME was another level of SKID ROW.
Yes! Wasted time
Wasted Time 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wasted Time. Hits very hard if you know anyone that has fallen into Heroin addiction, it is about the pain of watching someone spiral into the depths and being powerless to stop it, in the songs case it was Steven Adler, Guns and Roses first drummer who was friends with Sebastian Bach. Incidently Sebastian was on Broadway for 10 to 15 years since Skid Row.
I was just on an 80s cruise and Sebastian was one of the performers. We also got to sit in on interviews. Sebastian was so interesting! He said he was in choir as a kid and when his voice started changing, he locked himself in his room and practiced hitting the high notes because he didn't want to lose that ability. He also said that he had a paper route as a kid and listened to Air Supply while throwing papers. Air Supply was on this same cruise and Sebastian joined them onstage for the last song of their performance. Awesome all around!
Literally badass! To listen to a group as a kid then to get on stage after a successful career and sing with them👌
Skid Row's Wasted Time is probably Bach's pinnacle!
yes please reaction to this sound that time u will love in with him
That song is so personal for Sebastian. He wrote it about his friend Steven Adler former drummer of Guns and Roses who he watched his friend literally try to kill himself every day as Adler was addicted to Heroin. You can hear the emotion in Sebastian’s voice throughout the song. Skid Row was pretty big not as big as Bon Jovi who discovered them.
@@SuziSPSquirrelSkid Row became bigger than Bon Jovi and was blowing them off the stage every night
@@user-jt6qd8ri4l I agree they were better live than BJ I was a fan of both back in the day. My Bon Jovi days are long gone…but I’m a fan of Sebastian to this day ❤️
I recommend also "In a Darkened Room", really underrated
I put that as the saddest song ever written
@@jeffcohnphoto it' s true
The outro solo is perfect too, fits the song so well
Best Skid song imho
absolutely! Such a good song!!!
I wore this cassette tape out cruising in my firebird in 1990.
Ditto in my 70 Camaro. Lol
As did I in my 6.6 litre 79 T/A, black and gold trim, t tops!
@@tedl7777 My uncle had a blue one of those. God, I miss those days.
I still have my firebird- Skid Row, which is still in it!! 80's forever ♥️
I still have my Firebird- Skid Row in it, too!! ❤❤80's chick 4evr
Fun fact.......his brother was a NHL goalie for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Sabastian went to games a few times and sang The National Anthem each time he was there.
Never knew that. Thanks for the info!
I was not aware of that...
Does this guy now how to party or what!?
Yep, they're from my home town (Peterborough). Last name is actually Bierk, but Sebastian Bach great "stage name" :)
The first concert I ever attended was Skid Row opening for Bon Jovi in 1988. It was epic!
I still have the t-shirt.
I saw them on the same tour, I was 15. Skid Row destroyed Bon Jovi.
I tool a girl I liked from work to see that here in Houston, Tx
I'm sure that was an unbelievable show!!!
Skid Row was a Top Hair Metal Band in the late 80's. The Genre was Saturated with Incredible bands so a lot of bands sorta got lost in the shuffle. It was an incredible time to be a teenager. 🤘Thank god we got the internet so we can continue to enjoy and share all of the Hard Rockn goodness with the YUTES of today.
He just dropped new solo music THIS WEEK.
And it is WICKED GOOD!!!!
Sebastian was and is amazing! Skid Row has so many great songs and his solo stuff rocks as well. He literally just released a new solo album and it’s fantastic. Check out What Have I got To Lose. He still sounds great.
And as usual if rocked!!! His voice has not diminished one bit!! Skid Row is missing out because of old animosity!!
"I Remember You" live at Wembley Stadium is the live you NEED to see.💯 Sebastion goes off the charts with his vocal "play" mid-way thru the song... it's EPIC!!!👊🤯 Great reaction!! Peace and light...✌️💞
I came to the comments to say this! This is definitely the live performance to watch
This is absolutely my favorite, this is the one to watch live.
He sang like an angel and looked better than most models all at 19 years old
Oh Bethany now you are going down the Sebastian Bach rabbit hole. I would recommend Quicksand Jesus, In a Darkened Room and of course his masterpiece Wasted Time. The song is written about the decline of Steven Adler (drummer of Guns N Roses) due to his heroin addiction. He blew his voice out during the recording session for that song, it's by far the most emotionally charged metal vocal performance ever. A true masterpiece!
When she said "I hope they (screams) come back." I smiled....bc ohhhh they come back
Hahaha I read this right as it happened 😂❤
Glad that you did this one. I’ve always felt that Sebastian is one of the all time greats. He’s one of the few who actually studied Bel Canto. What I think is amazing about him is his ability to mix that classical training with the grit and swagger of the best rock singers.
You need to do "I Remember You" as well.
Incredible vocals on that song. His vocal runs are legendary.
Check out skid row “ monkey business” Bach voice was unreal in that song. Skid row was pretty big for a moment. From what o remember they didn’t get along very well. And fun fact.. the lead singer of spread eagle Ray west was bachs vocal coach for a brief time
Sebastian Bach has quite a recognizable voice and tonality, some might even call unique. His voice carves perfectly into the the kind of hard hitting rock emanating from Skid Row. I completely understood what you meant Bethany about envisioning 3 different people doing this intro 🎤🎵
"I Remember You" and "Youth Gone Wild" are absolute Skid Row musts!!
I second this assessment
Sebastian also had a run on Broadway in the Jekyll & Hyde musical. I'll never forget because the girl who sat next to me in class went to see it and got him to autograph her arm. When she came to school the next day they told her to wash it off and she refused so they sent her home, lol.
Saw Sébastien Bach last year and it was amazing. Dude still got it, voice, stage presence, banter, all of it
They were huge! His voice is top tier! He sang in the Phantom Of The opera on broadway as well🔥🔥🤘🏼
Not Phantom of the Opera... that was Paul Stanley. Sebastian was in "Jekyll & Hyde the Musical" in the lead role.
Everyone will implore you too listen to 'Wasted Time' where Bach demonstrates the true full range of his talents and just how powerful both his voice and the emotion he conveys in that song.
Quicksand Jesus would be a great one as well.I have heard so many wrong critiques of what that particular song is about and they take it so out of context. Its not an anti Jesus song.In fact just the opposite. The same applies to In A Darkened Room.
When I was 18 this was out, everyone thought I was a "WILD CHILD" said this was my story. 😂 WASTED TIME is another great SKID ROW song 🎵
'i Remember You' is another great example of his vocal gymnastics. Thank you for the review. Your hair is awesome by the way! 😀
"Wasted Time" video is another one which Bach stands out. He talks about the drug addiction of his friend Steven Adler-- the drummer of Guns N Roses. Also the "I Remember You" video is great.
Bach was born in the Caribbean and raised in Toronto, Canada. He moved to the US because Canada did not support heavy metal like the US. He met Skid Row at wedding while singing on stage and later joined Skid Row.
Hi Beth! 18 and Life is a great great song, but... wait until you watch WASTED TIME (official video) and you will be amazed by his power, his range and his full delivery to the meaning of the lyrics.
Great reaction, as always!
Greetings from Argentina
youth gone wild... song of my youth...
I watch Skid Row open for Guns N’ Roses in like 91 and this guy is a true performer… He had the crowd up right away and threw out the set. Electric!
Watched; throughout
I was at two of those shows when Skid Row opened up for GNR. Skid Row easily should’ve been the headliner just based off of performance! Absolutely top-notch!
Was there in Sydney show.
I still really enjoy how sensible you are about when to pause. Keep up the great work!
definitely, without a doubt, unfailingly, after this beautiful reaction, you have to give us your reaction to the song wasted Time. please.
You’re still my favorite when it comes to reactions! I see others change their format or “over react” perhaps in an attempt to gain viewers. But you do it right. Keep up the good work! Yes, Sebastian can sing with the best of them!
Thank you for LISTENING to the song through for more than 20 seconds before stopping and talking over it all. You soaked it in... good!
The power to use your voice and make everyone’s hair stand up on end is without touching them is just incredible
Sebastian Bach is an excellent singer. I was quite young when he was popular, but studying voice lessons. You cannot mistake that vibrato, and the way he controls his voice… It’s incredible.. his pronunciation, and when you watch him open his soft palette and kind of show his upper and lower teeth for some of those notes it’s just beautiful… And so is he. I had such a crush on him when I was young…❤❤❤
Sebastian’s amazing new album Child Within The Man is just incredible and ROCKS all the way from start to finish!!! I have a treasured signed vinyl of it/best version still of albums today🙌🙌 and the CD I can still
listen to in my car…So cool to hear that great Metal/Rock Ballad sound still being recorded today and Sebastian and the amazing musicians on this can do exactly that 🤘🔥🙌
If you really want to hear Bach in his screaming prime, check out the studio versions of "I Remember You", "Monkey Business" and "Wasted Time".
Underrated. His chosen path, as with a lot of artists, determines how far you go.
“Wasted Time is a MUST to hear. It’s a rock vocal masterpiece. Sebastian was one of, if not the best vocalist from the hair band era of the 80’s through the 90’s.
I was lucky enough to see them live in 89. Yes I'm old. They had no pyrotechnics or light show. They blow the headliner of the stage with just their sheer veracity, musical ability.
The song wasted time shows what kind of powerhouse he really is. I grew up listening to skid row as a teenager. Sebastian and Geoff Tate still are my 2 favorites of that era.
Saw Skid Row in a small club in Vancouver in '89. Maybe 400 people in the place. They absolutely killed...
Skid Row was huge in the late 80's. Their sound was so raw and powerful.
This dude had some pipes. Amazing growing up listening to this song. Hits home still.
One of the best singers of any era, his range, clarity, tone and ability to be smooth, gritty and both was ridiculous.
He’s just amazing! Sometimes it just comes together!
He is playing Las Vegas this summer. Free concert.
Fremont street experience.
Sat, July 20th - Sebastian Bach (1st Street Stage, 9:00 PM)
Great song & video. I also loved seeing/hearing her reactions to it & particularly Sebastian's amazing vocals. She looks so sweet & kinda old-fashioned but she seems to be a rocker at heart! :)
Never get tired of hearing this song, absolute classic 👏👏👏
He is underrated for sure!
“Wasted time”. In my opinion his best vocal performance. Also “I Remember You” is a classic as well.
Sebastián Bach had his own 18 & Life moment with his band mates. As amazing as they were it was kind of a flash in the pan type of a band because of their own drama.
They could've been HUGE & considering their short band life, SkidRow is still very much recognized as a KICKASS band
One of the greatest vocal performances…period. His command was unreal
no b.s., before Skid Row, Sebastian Bach sang for a little known american hair band called Madam X, thats my aunt and uncles band, Sebastian and Madam X all lived in my dads basement, you should do a video on Madam X either "High in Highschool" or "Monstrocity"
They were big for about 5 yrs and he was almost unmatched in range and talent.
Quicksand Jesus, top performance. He was one of the best voices at some point.
That's my joint 🤘🏽😎
Just saw Sebastian live this past Sunday. He still sounds pretty damn good at his age, 56 I believe.
Sebastian's voice is amazing. How he starts this song is just kick ass. Like she says, it's like three voices but coming from one voice within a few seconds timeframe.
I've been on a few video shoots and most singers aren't actually singing. They're just lip syncing and half ass singing to the track we're playing on set. Singers and observant music fans will notice quite easily when they're doing it.
But we've had a couple singers who actually sing, so fans can tell it's genuine. Which is pretty amazing, considering sometimes were on set for 8-10 hours a day shooting the same scene 10 or more times to patch together in post. Even singers with strong stamina will start softening it up around 5 p.m.
So, I wouldn't doubt at all that he was actually singing, and not just lip syncing. Which you have to respect because they could just mail it in, like most lame singers do on videos.
Sebastian Bach went on to 4 shows on Broadway
He just recently released a new album
Baz is my favorite vocalist from this time and genre. Perfection! ❤️🤘
Great choice!
This song would make an amazing movie! I'd love to be the person to make it!
No doubt,,, WASTED TIME and you could see him still singing greatful this songs from the 80s....Sebastian is a singer out of this world.
Best song they ever did, one the most memorable sebastian songs of all times♥️
Like others have said, Wasted Time is the song that truly showcases Sebastian's vocal ability.
I’m from Texas and in my 50s. They were HUGE! Love Skid Row!
Sebastian Bach was a Rock God! Their second album, Slave to the Grind, was the first heavy metal/hard rock album to ever enter the Billboard chart at #1. They truly were magic when they were together.
EVERYBODY needs to give props the Snake Sabo and Rachel Bolan. They composed many of the songs and Sabo knew Exactly when to hit it hard and when to lay back and make his guitar sound like an extension of Bach's voice. Pure Genius!
You probably don't hear Sebastian Bach's name very often because Skid Row came along as this kind of rock music was on the downslide and grunge was taking over. I think the band would have been much, much bigger if they'd arrived just 5 years earlier.
Bach's voice was very much still developing at this point, several songs from the second album showcase his growth really well.
I know I've commented this on another video, but many years ago I was working backstage catering for a charity show he was performing at. I have literally been to hundreds of concerts and he has the most powerful voice I have ever heard. Keep in mind that I was backstage and only hearing the audio through the floor monitors filtered through doors and hallways. Sebastian is legit and he was a pretty nice guy in my brief encounter with him. There is a funny story to go with it, but I won't post it here. Dude can really sing.
This album was one of my favorite's as a kid... Youth gone wild, this song, I remember you... I wore that tape out! Sebastian was a badass
I’m glad you caught that. The tongue comment. People think Sebastian screams, but that is his voice.
Skid Row has been in my top 10 since I was a kid. Sebastians voice is probably in the top 5
I first saw them in 1984 and the band blew me away.
Incredible voice and amazing song! Still hits me after all these years. Thank you!
Amazing!!! You gotta do Wasted Time. One of the best songs ever written and one of the most powerful vocal performance
I got to see Skid Row open for Bon Jovi in 1989 and they were everything you are imagining they would be. An amazing show!
Ricky would be 53 years old this year & 35 years into a life sentence.
Seems like a lifetime ago but in my highschool days when this song was popular. Me and a friend went to a party
and some drunken guys were playing around with a revolver and it went off hitting my friend in the chest. We tried to help him but he died before paramedics got there. The guy responsible only got 7 years but I still remember that night every time I hear this song.😢
This was absolutely one of my top jams in my teens, and still among my favorite metal tunes. Must’ve seen this video countless times and played this track ad infinitum.
As a teen in the 80s, they were extremely popular. I Remember You is another great song of theirs. Whitesnake is another great band to do a reaction.
I was kind of back and forth on Skid Row back in the day, but it was this song that made me buy their debut album, and I was not disappointed. Great video!
If you want to hear Sebastian's range; check out "Wasted Time".
Skid Row with Sebastian was quite impressive. Most live shows from 89-92 are amazing. Check out their set from Moscow 1989
I saw them live about 7 yrs ago... they STILL rock!!
He is an amazing singer and the band stage presence is incredible, I got to see him at a 5000 person venue in the small town where he is from, I was front row, he had killer dwarfs and pantera as openers of which they are also under rated, I know his younger brothers and shared a basement in a storefront rental where his father had his art studio upstairs and I actually got to see the original painting to slave to the grind, that was pretty cool, been a fan of skid row since their first release obviously as I also know a few of his friends etc and everywhere you went in Peterborough the album was playing lol
I still remember the first time I listened to the intro of this song and how I was mesmerized by Bach's voice. It was the same impact I experienced when listening to Plant's voice on the "Whole Lotta Love" intro. Truly once-in-a-lifetime moments.
I never got into them into the 90s, but the first 2 albums are so good, and still hold up!
Loved Skid Row back in the 90's. You are right about this being an emotionally impactful song. To this day, it puts a lump in my throat.
You will also see his mouth make physical vibrato in the "I remember You" video.
I have seen him live within the past year - this exact song included. His vocals are slightly darker but his mouth shapes and breath the same.
This song when they were performing in Moscow in 1989 was stonning! The best ever in my opinion!
Your knowledge of singing is very impressive and pleasantly insightful. Listening to your "analysis" is refreshingl
Man you are bringing back some memories this band was perfect for the time Sebastian is in a handful of singers that were gifted with the voice of an Angel 🙂
Saw Bas open for GNR awhile back now and he's legitimately crazy. It was so much fun. Blew Axl away that night.
If you have time to listen to the version from their demo album, when Sebastian was a couple years younger, it's even more wild and amazing.
