My First Sebastian Bach Experience! Skid Row Vocal ANALYSIS of "I Remember You"

- So, Sebastian Bach has been on my list for four years now, and for some reason it just kept getting pushed back. Maybe because the name Skid Row concerned me that this would be extremely harsh vocals, having lived next to a Skid Row in Los Angeles for many years (and many experiences with the homelessness). Welp, wrong again, Elizabeth!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Skid Row and Sebastian Bach for the first time, performing "I Remember You”.

Wasted Time needs to be next, best rock vocal performance bar none
That, or Quicksand Jesus
@@jeremysieving7434 Yes! Wasted Time First Then Quicksand Jesus please!
"I never thought you'd let it get this far boy" 😢
Please! 🥹
Yup.... One of my favorite songs to sing when I'm fully warmed up
18 and Life is my favourite of his Skid Row songs. Even as a teenager, I got shivers from that one.
I agree!
Yep. She has to listen to that song.
Great video too! In the 80s the video added a lot...a phenomenon long lost in the MP3 age☹
100% agree!
Yes let’s all recommend it to Elizabeth to analyze 18 and Life in the future.
Sebastian is classically trained and is one of the best vocalists in his generation of singers. - Glad you found him.
Wasted Time is a masterclass in vocal fry. Such an amazing song.
"Oh, but the horse stampedes, it rages
In the name of desperation."
IYKYK.
You got that right. I was a teeanger in the late 1980's. My first concert ever was Skid Row opening up for Bon Jovi in 1989 (was 18). Skid Row was so much better than Bon Jovi that the rumor was Jon changed Skid Row for a different opening band because the crowds were there for Skid Row. In 1992 Skid Row opened for Ozzy No More Tears tour and again, Skid Row outperformed Ozzy. Bach's vocal range even live was insane.
Abso-fuckin-lutely
Geoff Tate did some ridiculous vocal acrobatics on the first two albums my guy. Sebastian's performance is up there that's for sure. Warrel Dane on the first Sanctuary Album...his falsetto was fucking insane
"Quicksand Jesus" is peak Sebastian Bach. Absolutely a must.
Yes, Best Skid Row song for me.
Yeah, just a killer song. Love it
Yes, Quicksand Jesus is a MUST!
Definitely, Quicksand Jesus, followed closely by 18 and life...
Quicksand Jesus and Livin on a Chain Gang are the two that I point to as a Sebastian introduction. LOCG is like a maniac unleashed, Quicksand Jesus is as if that maniac was reeled in a bit.
‘Monkey Business’ is the Skid Row you thought you were getting. Most of the band did not even want to record this song, but Bach wanted too (He was in charge of exactly nothing at the time), and Doc McGee (who was their manager - and KISS’s manager, and Bon Jovi’s manager, listened to the rough version, sided with Bach and forced them to do it. Everyone’s telling you to do ‘Wasted Time’ but you need to do the harder stuff that the band actually wanted to do - like ‘Slave to the Grind’ or the aforementioned ‘Monkey Business’ or even ‘18 and Life’ also a power ballad.
I absolutely agree.elizabeth needs to hear that aggressive side of sebastian's voice as well. " Monkey business" " slave to the grind" I would say even " piece of me" because he sings with swagger in that one.
@@pauladeitch3739 Yeah! These three songs are awesome! Monkey business is my favourite!
@esegueojogo the rapid fire delivery on Monkey Business is insane and rivals the best of the rappers
Another vote for “Monkey Business”
So correct. Also a very much overlooked song by UA-cam reactionaries. Wasted Time is better vocal performance and composition, but it really should be a third reaction.
Youth Gone Wild was my introduction to Skid Row so I always have a soft spot for that one. He really is underrated! ❤
Range, emotion, breath control AND he's absolutely stunningly beautiful.
and almost as big of an ass as Axl LOL. but t hen again what lead singer from then wasn't LOL.
I couldn't help but tap on this video even though I knew I'd be crying the whole way through. It was the song that my wife and I danced to at our wedding. Cancer took her from me a few years back and every time I hear this song it absolutely destroys me, but I can't ever bring myself to turn it off.
Sorry for your loss. It is a beautiful song.
Oh gosh. Listening through a lens of loss and now I'm crying too...
I lost mine two years ago, we loved the old rockers...this song hurts. Sorry for your loss Brother, I believe they are waiting for us to join them.
She lives in you bro
The pain comes with the love. You remember her. And that's the gift. The song is just a reminder. I am truly sorry you had to experience that loss, but also a bit jealous you had that kind of love. Not everyone gets one.
The song “Wasted Time” will break your mind, with Sebastian’s vocal Frye screams and his transition from a high clean belt to a soul wrenching scream.
I second this vote. In the top 10 songs of my life
And In A Darkened Room. BEST vocalist for that genre in that time.
@@terryhanley8579 I agree but Wasted Time is on another level (I love the whole album, obviously)
@@terryhanley8579 YES, Thank you! absolutley LOVE In a Darkened Room, I think it is one of his best... don't get me wrong he has a lot of great stuff he sings, but IMO I think this is his best with the "Power Ballads" .
"it's more important to bring heart than to bring perfection." Beautifully said.
I've yet to see a vocal analyst on YT give enough credit to Sebastian's dirty/distorted screams. That's where his emotional delivery really shines and he's just on another level with it. It's really difficult to figure out how do that without wrecking your voice for the rest of the song. And it's even more difficult to scream on-pitch while walking up and down scales. Now start clean, transition to a dirty scream, then back to clean again like he does in this song. It's simply amazing, and yet too often (IMO) tragically overlooked and underrated.
In my opinion Sebastian Bach has one of the most underrated voices. In pure quality and control I believe it's one of the best male singing voices in the past couple of decades.
His problem was singing live. He's like Axl Rose, gives it too much too early and loses his voice away too quickly. And back in the 80s he was always wasted on stage. I saw them once in '92 and they were good but a bit of a let down.
One of my favorite singers of all time!!! I get goosebumps man!!!!
One of the most underrated to come from the hair metal scene. Many knew his talent, sadly the short longevity and lack of consistency of hits after their first release banished them to tour openers rather than Top Guys. I recall at the Moscow Music Peace Festival Crew, Row, Zack Wylde, and Jason Bonham covered "Rock & Roll" with Bach and Vince going back and forth and Bach just simply destroyed him on stage. Not too surprising now the way we know Vince turned out. But back then you immediately knew this dude (Bach) had chops for days with Crew being one of the biggest acts at that show and Row being relative new comers.
And it's crazy how young he was. Dude had a gifted voice.
Agreed that Baz is amazing but he’s hardly underrated. He’s considered one of the best vocalists in the genre ever. He was compared to Halford early in his career.
The best way I can describe Sebastian Bach.
He is a well trained war horse. There is a massive amount of power in him. He can make it prance, canter, walk, gallop and full out power run. He knows how to and when to hold back. Yet even when gentle you can feel the power there.
Like petting a giant work horse. You can feel the power underneath the surface, you know that horse could hurt you but they can hold it in and be so sweet and gentle.
That is Sebastian, his voice can be so sweet and gentle. But he can turn that power on whenever he pleases. It is always impressive.
Well put, love it
Nice! MANY of us blew our voices out in the 80s attempting to scream along with his songs while driving windows down going absolutely nowhere of any importance whatsoever!!
Well written. Amazing live singer
Not anymore 🤔🤪🤣
@@69CamaroSSI was born in ‘85, and I’m still, at 39, blowing my voice out screaming to this song. 😂😂😂😂
I'm surprised you didn't gush over that last line more. I can only think of a handful of singers in the rock arena that could deliver a final line like that. The length of the phrase, the amount of air to achieve the powerful climax, and then the tale off at the end. It's one of THE greatest rock/pop climaxes I've ever heard. He's an absolute monster in the genre. And for me, the nasality doesn't turn me off. It helps with the projection and the clarity of diction. Sebastian is at the top tier for this stuff.
💯
This song takes me back to when I was 16 & in love with Sebastian Bach. Now I'm 50 & still in love with this song. All the same feels...❤
I was 17....51 now. Still love their music.
I lost my girl to cancer two years ago and this song breaks me every time I hear it. I was a fan when it came out in the eighties and when I hear this now I would not even think of turning it off. I remember you sweetheart. Thank you Elizabeth for talking about this beautiful song.
Sorry for your loss, but glad you have this as a beautiful remembrance.
- Sorry for your loss. This is such a beautiful song and I'm glad it brings her memory back for you.
Blessings from Finland.
Sprry 4 ur loss
same boat, lost my husband 2 months ago to cancer. this song breaks me everytime
Sebastian Bach was probably one of the most gifted singers to come out of the 80's and 90's, his range is insane.
I hear that he is still pretty good to go as far as range as well, which a lot of singers from that era and wheelhouse definitely can't say
"He's definitely adding a little bit of fry" oh my you have no idea what you're in for lol
Saw him a month ago, truly amazing how his voice has lasted.
Agree outstanding voice!!!
I’d go as far as to say, gifted singers ever
Vocal coach telling us that the guitar solo sounds more like Mozart? you’re not a vocal coach you’re a music coach because that’s awesome. That’s absolutely awesome.
FINALLY!!!! I’ve been waiting for you to do this!!! Sebastian Bach has one of the BEST voices of all time!!!❤❤❤❤
Wasted time is my absolute favorite Skid Row song. His pure raw talent is exposed.
she should have started with that song
And about Steve Adler from GN'R.
It’s my favorite Skid Row song too. It has been since it came out.
It's between that and quicksand jesus for me, always go back and forth with those 2
Yes! And In A Darkened Room
My God I miss the 80’s!!! I will never forget the day my brother came home with this cassette tape. I listened to this over and over and over again. You have to listen to Quicksand Jesus, Wasted Time, Youth Gone Wild, 18 and Life…just to name a few!
Yes yes yes! I kinda wish i could experience hearing these songs all over again for the very first time! God they r awesome
The 80’s were so much fun !! So much great music !!!
"In a darkened room " has just voice and heart in there
Sebastian Bach was 21 years old when he laid down these vocals. TWENTY ONE YEARS OLD. Mind blowing...
Sebastian Bach had one of the most distinct voices in rock during his time, every time I hear this song it makes the hair on my arms and neck stand up. His voice is almost haunting at times. His voice is to rock what Eddie Vedder's is to Grunge. Both are there own sound and un-matched
When I think of grunge, I picture Layne Staley. Not Eddie Vedder
Haven't seen anyone mention the song "Youth gone wild" yet. That's another great song of theirs that's a bit edgier. Bach had a helluva range back then! Since leaving Skid Row he's done a lot of musical theater.
..and 'played guitar' in Hep Alien...😊
Seriously though, he had one of the greatest voices in that era of hard rock.
Youth Gone Wild is, to me, the musical interpretation of Skid Row. The anger, the frustration, this song was the call to arms for my generation (Gen X).
@@dynad00d15 Absolutely!
@@dynad00d15 pretty anthemy even back then.
+1 more for Youth Gone Wild
The "hair bands" of the time was a musical phenomenon. So many bands cranking out so much great music. The music they produced varied from great balads to hard driving head banging. It was a great time to be young, cruising, music blasting, free and wild.
I love hair metal
Skid Row is peak hair band era.
That was a great time to be 20
I’d love for you to do some Bon Jovi- great 80’s and 90’s rock.
@@kevindeminchuk1152 I’d also love to get some bon jovi analyzed
I clicked on this video so fast. My favorite power ballad of all time. Sebastián's range is impressive. I love this song-hooked from the beginning note to the end- the high to the low. Plus, he's easy on the eyes. ❤
Thank you so much for showcasing songs from my high school days! Now, as a musician of 36 years, I have greater understanding of and appreciation for all of it!
Elizabeth Zharoff is a national treasure. Thank you for being energetic and inspirational!
Global treasure 😉
Right ? I've learned so much from her and she has such a wonderful, positive energy ❤
Elizabeth checking out Skid Row and Sebastian Bach's great vocals. Sebastian Bach was just 20 years old when the song was released. More songs to explore with Skid Row - Wasted Time, 18 and Life, In a Darkened Room for other power ballads and Slave to the Grind and Monkey Business for heavier songs.
Slave to the Grind is a banger!
@@laurieemme1534 that whole album is a banger
Yes, listening to 18 and Life is an experience... enough said....
Youth Gone Wild for the energy 💪🏻
Slave to the grind for sure
This song is almost 36 years old. I've seen him perform throughout the years and people still really love seeing him get up there. I don't believe i've heard him sing this nearly close to this in many, many years. But, remembering when it came out and even now, just how the whole song comes across...I think it's one of the greatest rock ballads. Especially of that era of music. Passionate.
I love your disections in these videos. It allows me to really understand & picture things more, whether it's the physical body & the way it works or just giving me new imagery with the way the song itself comes across.
I've had a block with singing so these things will help me get back on track.❤
Great analysis here! Congrats and thank you so much! Many of us are not able to notice in a lifetime all the details that you bring upfront in your analysis.
His vocal chords were kissed by an angel. I've been listening to this song for 30 years and still get goosebumps.
he's also amazing live. A lot of 80's metal singers weren't that great live (Vince Neil was awful! ), but Sebastian always killed it. They upstaged multiple bands that I saw them open for live. I wish they'd bring him back, especially since the guy they had as a singer supposedly left.
Reading that diary of Nikki Sixx’s and even in there he mentioned some band opening that nobody ever heard of, but the singer was a hell of a singer. He was talking about skid row and Bach
Meee toooo!!!!!
He still sounds pretty damn good too!
@@triciasanders2455 I saw him a month ago, his voice is still amazing!
The video is about a man whose memories are holding him down and so he's letting them go so that he can finally move on with his life. It represents how strong a hold memories can have on us in line with the theme of the song.
To add, he's lamenting that he still remembers her and longs for what they had, and he wonders whether she feels the same... so many people saw this as a love song, when it was a love lossed song. Hence the progression from lighter to angst in his vocal expression.
Wow what a rollercoaster of excitement. Thank you so much Elizabeth, your videos and breakdown of our favorite metal vocalists is so wholesome
Thank you for recognizing what a great guitar solo this song has! Love the channel.
Sebastian was 18-19 when he recorded this song/album. That still amazes me to these days. What a monster of a singer.
Wow!!! I didn't know he was so young!
Sebastian was born in 1968, that song came out in 1989, not very older than you mentioned but about 21
To think his voice had not even matured yet as a singer !
@@DangerousDan666the album was recorded in 88, so he was 20. But yes, older than the OP suggested. Still a lad though!
Yes, the whole band was very young. Def Leopards first album, High N Dry, they actually were all under 20 years old. Still blows me away and at the time gave me hope for my dreams.
Whew, this song.
I saw them play in Toronto when I was homeless, and this will always have a very special place for me.
Being a kid, and being homeless, I was invisible. I fell through all the cracks. People walk by like you don’t exist, and in this song, I saw a piece of me crying, reaching out begging to be remembered, to not be forgotten. And the song being the only voice saying ‘I will remember you.’
Silly, maybe. It gave me hope when I had none.
I still cry, hearing it.
I loved hearing your quips about the hair - my gods, the hair back then - and gave me a different appreciation for his voice. Thank you for this.
This random youtuber hopes you're in a better place now 🙂
@@fredfredburger5150 Thank you, your comment made me smile. And I am in a better place; I got out of it, made myself a career in tech as the internet bloomed in the late 90s, and work to remind the scared teen I was, that we’re ok. That we made it. And that I won’t forget what we had to endure to get here.

I so dig you. I showed these videos of you to my wife and we absolutely love watching you and the expressions you make. I’ve been playing guitar’s for years and I really would have liked having you on site to express what I was trying to get my singers to do!!
The term Skid Row while being well known as a depressed part of Los Angeles (which some might argue is what the Whole City is now becoming…) is actually derived from an old Logging phrase. It came from ‘skid road’ where timber logs were dragged lengthy distances from the forests & even sometimes greased to make the process easier, down to the river for floating transport to lumber mills down river… As one could imagine the impact of such a process left a lasting impact on the land & many roads. When it went through a community often a small town, hamlet, or village as this era of logging was long in our past & & generally in rural communities, the area was often later seen as the less desirable place to live… Thus the name ‘skid road’ & later becoming ‘skid row.’
Best comment here, and that is saying something on this video! Cheers!
The guitar solo in this song has become quite iconic, especially among guitar players. Very well crafted.

One of the best ever

People can say what they want about SB but you can never take away the amazing voice and his skills with it and artistry with it.
Every bad thing I ever heard about him was just pure jealousy and had no grounds in reality beyond that. People made shit up just to try to make him look bad. He's actually a good guy so those liars were just plain trolls before the Internet was ever a thing.
@@jamescurfman3284 Read his book. So many of his anecdotes conclude with someone trying to beat his ass for some reason.

@@backstabbath2690 yeah, talent and good looks doesn’t make someone a good person. The stuff he did back then is well documented. Maybe he grew up, I don’t know, but he was an awful human being back then.
He was a bit wild, he liked to drink and do all the rock star stuff. But like already mentioned there were a lot of trolls in the industry that seemingly went out of their way to bring him down. Not defending, just pointing out that there were definitely 2 sides to all the crap. But hey, he ended up on Gilmour Girls as Gil and was the guitarist for the girls band.
I had never heard of you before, but I was extremely intrigued by the fact that you had never heard Sebastian Bach sing before, and I was excited to see your reaction to his voice singing I Remember You. I was a teenager in the late 80s when hair bands and power ballads were very popular. I loved 18 and Life, which was released before I Remember You, but hearing Sebastian Bach singing this song was something very different. It's one of those songs where you don't just hear it; you feel it. Sebastian Bach's voice is so smooth and honest when he sings. During that time of hair bands and power ballads, his voice was very different than the other rockers. I had never stopped to think about it, but all of the thing you say in your video are so true. He's just an incredible singer.
So, having just heard the song that he recorded with Skid Row in the late 80s, check this one out that was just released a few weeks ago. His voice has changed some over 25 years, but he still sounds very good. This is (Hold On) To The Dream

After hearing your thoughts on that one, I'm curious if you've done this one in one of your videos.
Steelheart -- I'll Never Let You Go

Miljenko Matijevic also has an incredible voice and this is SUCH a good song. I always wondered if Steelheart would have become a much bigger name if he hadn't been hurt during that concert in the early 90s, just a couple of years after they released their first album. He was injured so badly that he wasn't able to return to the band at the time, and he had to be replaced.
I’m here for the high note reaction. It will blow your mind.
You definitely need to choose “Wasted Time” for your next Skid Row analysis!
Agree!!!
Yeah!
18 and life
Please God, no. She would butcher that song, and entirely fail to enjoy it (or allow anyone else to enjoy it).
She'd stop in all the wrong places, before crescendos, in the middle of crescendos, before crescendos had a chance to fully resolve. She'd chop the harmonizing vocals into and out of that beautiful guitar solo.
No. Please God, no.
I love how enthusiastic she is about the most subtle minutia of each technique. Just something really beautiful about seeing such enthusiasm for her passion.
I agree! Her love of Music coupled with her knowledge base brings such Joy through that is contagious❤
People who pay attention to vocals will be like this. I do the same thing. I notice all these little things singers do. It's amazing.
Agree! She is great to watch
This song will always remind me of one of my clients with whom I do therapy. His homelessness leads him to the love of his life. All the time they spend being homeless through the winters really fits in well with this song. How they got separated along the way and found their way back together.
Wow... that's such an amazing story of the human experience. Thank you for sharing! I appreciate it, just so you know.
I still have such vivid memories' of seeing them open up for Bon Jovi at the Compton Terrace in the Phoenix area. It was was April of 1989 during Spring Break, man what a show, I was just 16 years old going on 17 it was a great era for music!

Fun fact about this song: the one line at the end of the song that has the extra harmony you noticed on "I remember...", that harmony is sung by Jon Bon Jovi. He heard the song and said "I gotta be on this" so they hid him in there uncredited.
In a Darkened Room by Skid Row is my favorite song in the entire world. I have it tattooed on me. It makes me emotional, and Sebastian's voice on that song is unbelievable. Please review that one!! They have been my favorite band since i was a little kid, they mean the world to me. Scotti Hill is hands down my favorite guitar player on earth (who i was lucky enough to meet a few weeks ago and is a truly wonderful person) and he is known for his highly emotive guitar solos, especially on their ballads.
As far as what you expected from Skid Row, you're not wrong to think they're edgy, you just picked a soft song 😂 For heavier, edgier Skid Row, i highly recommend Monkey Business, Psycho Love, The Threat or Slave to the Grind
Not trolling. Think you either mistyped or spell check changed it, but think you mean "The Threat". And yes, I agree with you, it's an excellent song for his vocals. I thought for vocal fry a good song for her, though it would never get enough votes on here, would be "Big Guns" off of the 1st album. That ending vocally has to be tough, even for Sab.
it clearly shows rachel singing that part in the video
i thought Youth Gone Wild was pretty heavy.

so much fun to listen to a classically trained vocal expert listen and talk about her take on music that a lot of us grew up with...AWESOME and thanks Elizabeth!!
“18 and Life” is a great one from Skid Row
I have no idea how I ended up with The Charismatic Voice videos on my UA-cam feed, but I'm SO GLAD I did! I've watched countless videos of yours and love them all. It's so fun watching a classically trained, professional opera singer listen to (often for the first time) songs that have been staples in my musical library for decades. Your analysis of these songs is completely fascinating to this rock drummer who knows absolutely nothing about vocal technique. In truth, I've heard "I Remember You" so many times I'd be happy not to hear it again. But your analysis made it fun to revisit this song and helped me understand it on an entirely new level. Many thanks for what you do.
I Love Her. ;)
Skid Row is one of those bands that never got their true appreciation. A shooting star that momentarily lit the sky on fire and then were gone. One of my favorite bands of that era. And let me tell you how I almost died when Sebastian Bach showed up on Gilmore Girls.
Sebastian’s voice is melodic, gritty, emotive, and powerful. He is a dynamic performer as well. In other words, he is a perfect rock vocalist and deserves every bit of praise he’s ever received, plus much much more. 🤘
18 and Life, Youth Gone Wild, Piece of Me, Sweet Little Sister oh my gosh, anything Sebastian sings is awesome.
The extra vocal harmony at the end of the song is actually Jon Bon Jovi. Skid Rows bassist said in an interview one time he stopped in the studio one day as they were recording this track and they all said “throw down a vocal harmony or something.” Now each time I always notice Bon Jovi’s small vocal thrown in. Amazing detail and amazing song!
Snake was almost in Bon Jovi before Richie Sambora. And then Bon Jovi was instrumental in getting Skid Row signed & has SK open for them on tour.
I was TODAY YEAR OLD when I heard that harmony in the background. When she noticed it the second time she listened I tuned in more and could hear JBJ in it! Thank you for sharing!
Really?! That's pretty awesome. It's a shame they had a falling out at one point.
When I saw them in concert, Skid Row opened for Bon Jovi. It was one of the best shows I had ever seen.
both from Jersey
I would love to hear you breakdown every song from their first two albums honestly. I really enjoyed this.
Im all about deathcore and all that kind of stuff and love when you do all those, but I have to say ive never been more excited for one of your videos than I was seeing that you did this song👍 thanks boss
“Wasted Time” from Skid Row next please its such a powerful song
I'm not a singer, but watching these videos gives me a new appreciation for songs I've listened to for decades.
I think I read somewhere that Sebastian Bach is classically trained vocally. Anyway, I am a percussionist, and the drum sequence on this track was the first that I had ever learned when I played with a band in high school my freshmen year many, many moons ago 😅 I love your reaction video especially how you breakdown the artists musicality and skill sets. Thank you for taking me back to a time when music was actual music. Well done.
I love watching to your reacts. It takes me back to my teens when I first heard these songs.
18 and life is by far my favorite by them . I grew up traveling on the road with my dad who worked for Bon Jovi and Skid Row opened for them on one of the tours. Sebastian's voice carried so amazing through the arenas every night that I hear him and get flashbacks and goosebumps still.
Who was your dad, I may know him I was Rob's drum tech.
@tomsmith-rr6ch Gaz aka Gary Douglas, he was Richie's tech. If you were on that tour, I was the rugrat running around stage all the time and trying to steal Snakes bike.
New Jersey tour? 86ish? I saw that in Austin. Cheers to your dad.
I’m not sure how much nasal is too much nasal, but to my untrained ear, this is one of the most beautiful vocals ever!
I have been waiting for the Skid Row entrance for a long time.
When the best time of your life comes to an end. When what you had hoped for goes away and life becomes miserable. You stare at pictures as if they will return the one you lost. And you remember everything in painful details. All you wanna hear is that you are still remembered. At some point the pictures and the memories starts to hurt more than they satisfy you. Thats when you need to get rid of the memories and start new ones. Only thing is: "Please remember me, as I will never forget you"
It’s about time! Thank you so much!
Wasted time is the best in vocal terms, really shows Sebastian's abilities
Fun fact - Sebastian's father drew the album artwork. 'Wasted Time' is a must listen
Any source for your fun fact?
@@africanblue lookup David Bierk, Canadian artist. He did Slave to the Grind art.
Clarifying, his father did Slave to the grind art
@@africanblue I remember an interview with Sebastian talking about his fathers death and there were 8 kids all trying to split up his art collection and he mentioned the Slave to the grind cover being his
I have heard this song a million times and you have pointed out so many things that I've never noticed. Also, I love your hair coloring!
My first stadium concert was seeing them open up for Bon Jovi in 1988. Skid Row has some great memories for me when I was in my early teens.
And, although I was more into Thrash Metal at the time. this was easily my favorite song off this album.
You have got to listen to "Wasted Time" by these guys. Incredible vocals. Shows off Sebastian's vocal range.
That massive ending vocal run is one of the greatest things ever recorded. Amazing.
Love how she stopped it and said she thought it was "soft and lovely" BEFORE IT KICKED IN!
I love when vocal coaches or teachers review this particular song. :) It's just flat-out awesome.
Wasted Time and In A Darkened Room are the two most glorious vocal performances by Sebastian Bach, for his seamless clean to vocal fry sustained notes. Absolutely incredible!
And don’t forget the last note of Quicksand Jesus. He has said that’s the highest he ever sang…
Great introduction to one of the best voices from the era. Fun fact: Skid Row's 2nd album Slave To The Grind was the first metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard charts.
Absolutely! I remember getting the cassette single for "Monkey Business" before the album was released and I wore that sucker out, working at Little Caesar's Pizza at the time. My friends and I got to see them open for GN'R in Birmingham, AL at a horse track with 180,000+ in attendance. Both bands absolutely KILLED!!! Good times, and so many fond memories.
🫵🫵🫵👑👑👑🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Killer album
@@TimKCSportsFan the best in their catalogue
@@blgeiger71 I still have slave on cassette !
I love you so much , For the fact that you cheer up when you hear great harmony vocals guitar. I've been watching you for a while. And I noticed at the very same moment which you're up together, It's a great feeling to know that somebody else feels the same thing. You and I would get along good cause we're so much on the same page.I play and sing myself.
And I know you have to play and sing!!!
You tear up is what I was saying ..
Oh my gosh! You’ve never done this song before?! This is going to be fun. The lyrics, his singing, his performance. Seriously, to be that good looking and have that much talent is just not fair to the rest of us.
Manifestly unjust 😂
Not to mention his stunning work on Trailer Park Boys
He also got famous in the 80s for unapologetically wearing a T-shirt that read "AIDS Kills F**s Dead." (But without my censoring)
He would have it all if he had any brains😂😂
@@annmariemills1554well, nobody is actually perfect. 😂 His personality makes up for his shortcomings
I am always so impressed with his use of vibrato. Some of the best of any male rock vocalist.
I don't know if I was missing the moment with others, but YOURS is the most genuine reaction I have ever perceived. Your face expression tells me you are actually listening 🎧 to not only the vocals, but the arrangement as well. This song is one of my all time favorites straight out of the 80's since the first time I heard it on the radio while driving from NYC to S. Jersey. I spoke very little English then, but I could still feel the power of the instruments (I like drums) and vocals and how dynamic this song is. This was released at a time when most "bands" needed a "ballad" to appeal even more to the females in my opinion. "18 and Life To Go" is another great hard rocking vocals tune. Have a great day!
She didn’t even listen to the damn song f , wtf are you talking about?? She stopped every 5 syllables to hear her own voice. You can’t possibly get the feel of a smug with that many pauses. Waste of time watching this.
I remember my high school girlfriend coming to my house very excited that a friend had given her a ticket to see "Bon Jovi and some band I've never heard of". That new band was Skid Row. She couldn't stop talking about Skid Row for 2 weeks after that. This song gives me goosebumps every time
Wasted time is incredible. Ive been waiting years for a Bach reaction.
Years! It's been years asking for your take on Sebastian's voice and it's finally here! Thank you, Elizabeth. Sebastian Bach learned to sing in a church choir if I'm not mistaken, and I remember when I first listened to Skid Row and thinking his voice sounded like lightning. He has such a powerful and underrated voice. I really recommend you to hear In a Darkened Room, from their second album, to have an idea of how powerful his voice can be. But you can get a sense of his range in other songs, like 18 and life, Wasted Time, The Threat and Slave to the Grind. Their first album remains one of my favorite albums of all time
Their debut album (Skid Row) is still IMO one of the best rock debut albums by a band of all time.
@@jarro6346 every song in this album is great. Big Guns, Rattlesnake Shake, Youth Gone Wild, Elizabeth could choose any one of them and it would be a blast
I love your explanations. I’m not a singer. I’m a drummer but you explain things that I remember “feeling “ in these songs. Where the breaks are how each breath is taken . You do it in a way even someone who doesn’t sing can relate to. You’re a very very talented young lady. God bless you, your husband and your little one.
I'm glad you commented on the interplay between the vocals and guitar solo on both sides of the solo. Even when I was a preteen when this song came out, I always loved that (it always sounded like they were transforming into one another and back)!
From the very instant that I found The Charismatic Voice, a few years ago, I instantly thought of how I’d love for you to hear and react to Sebastian Bach, this song in particular. Today, that dream came true for both of us, as well as everyone else in this beautiful community. Thank you so much for making my day, and may your day be met with Mr. Blue Sky tomorrow!! 🎼🎶🎵
As a guitar player that learned how to play through the 70's & 80's, I always felt the guitars on this album were the best guitar tones of the 80's, absolutely huge and cavernous, the louder you play the album the better it sounds, and Sebastian Bach's voice was insane, they opened for Aerosmith at the Cow Palace and they were awesome!
I saw them open for Aerosmith in Kansas City as well. They were spectacular live! No gimmicks, just straight up in your face belting from the heavens.
@@BartmanKC and in your face bottles thrown by Bach if you weren’t careful.
One of the best guitar solos in the history of guitar solos. Scotti killed it.
This Was Fun- Glad U Enjoyed One Of My Fav Bands When I Was Young Un- You Are Very Thorough and On Top Of The Music...Also Very Nice Looking and Sounding...Thank You For the Time!!!
I would love to see her reaction to quicksand Jesus. Sebastian really shows his vocal abilities on that song
I totally agree. Always brings tears to my eyes.
This one is totally awesome. "Wasted time" is another crazy level of awesomeness!
Before Skid Row , while he was in a band in Canada.. Bach used to run up behind the stage, jump onto a trampoline, Dive Over the Drummer as he goes into a roll as he hits the stage , Jumps up and begins Singing right into the crowds face....
Insane....
Underrated guitar solo - gorgeous phrasing: very lyrical with perfectly sustained notes! It's quite complex actually because of how nuanced it is: squeals, barring with his left hand, etc. - there's a lot going on! Perfect blend of staccato and legato!
Many years ago I was working backstage catering for a charity show he was performing at. I've been to hundreds of concerts and he has by far the most powerful voice I've heard, which is even more amazing considering I was backstage and only hearing the audio from the stage monitors. He's also a pretty nice guy.
The band doesn’t get enough credit for being able to fill and support Bach so well. They are so tight and no one knows their names unlike some other bands. Everyone knows Mick and Nikki from Crue but these guys in Skid Row were fantastic
True. Snake and Scotti's sound is so unique. Rachel probably was more well known for his nose-chain than his bass playing heh but he has some really cool bass parts on a lot of songs. And Rob is a really powerful drummer.
Fantastic band, and they haven't exactly downgraded in terms of vocalists either: ZP Theart (OG Dragonforce) put up an epic show a couple of years ago, perfect bloke for the band living his own 80's dream on stage.
They had Erik Grönwall replace him on mic duty, dude nails whatever he sings.
And the latest shows are done by Lzzy Hale.
What a band to look back on and my first time seeing them live, Pantera opened up for them and boy what a show ❤❤🎉🎉
RIP Dime CFH
throwing the pictures on the ground because he don’t need them..
he remembers
Sebastian Bach had one heck of a set of pipes back in the day. I see we all recommend that Wasted Time should be your next reaction 😀
