I couldn't help but tap on this video even though I knew I'd be crying the whole way through. It was the song that my wife and I danced to at our wedding. Cancer took her from me a few years back and every time I hear this song it absolutely destroys me, but I can't ever bring myself to turn it off.
The pain comes with the love. You remember her. And that's the gift. The song is just a reminder. I am truly sorry you had to experience that loss, but also a bit jealous you had that kind of love. Not everyone gets one.
In my opinion Sebastian Bach has one of the most underrated voices. In pure quality and control I believe it's one of the best male singing voices in the past couple of decades.
His problem was singing live. He's like Axl Rose, gives it too much too early and loses his voice away too quickly. And back in the 80s he was always wasted on stage. I saw them once in '92 and they were good but a bit of a let down.
One of the most underrated to come from the hair metal scene. Many knew his talent, sadly the short longevity and lack of consistency of hits after their first release banished them to tour openers rather than Top Guys. I recall at the Moscow Music Peace Festival Crew, Row, Zack Wylde, and Jason Bonham covered "Rock & Roll" with Bach and Vince going back and forth and Bach just simply destroyed him on stage. Not too surprising now the way we know Vince turned out. But back then you immediately knew this dude (Bach) had chops for days with Crew being one of the biggest acts at that show and Row being relative new comers.
Agreed that Baz is amazing but he’s hardly underrated. He’s considered one of the best vocalists in the genre ever. He was compared to Halford early in his career.
‘Monkey Business’ is the Skid Row you thought you were getting. Most of the band did not even want to record this song, but Bach wanted too (He was in charge of exactly nothing at the time), and Doc McGee (who was their manager - and KISS’s manager, and Bon Jovi’s manager, listened to the rough version, sided with Bach and forced them to do it. Everyone’s telling you to do ‘Wasted Time’ but you need to do the harder stuff that the band actually wanted to do - like ‘Slave to the Grind’ or the aforementioned ‘Monkey Business’ or even ‘18 and Life’ also a power ballad.
I absolutely agree.elizabeth needs to hear that aggressive side of sebastian's voice as well. " Monkey business" " slave to the grind" I would say even " piece of me" because he sings with swagger in that one.
So correct. Also a very much overlooked song by UA-cam reactionaries. Wasted Time is better vocal performance and composition, but it really should be a third reaction.
The best way I can describe Sebastian Bach. He is a well trained war horse. There is a massive amount of power in him. He can make it prance, canter, walk, gallop and full out power run. He knows how to and when to hold back. Yet even when gentle you can feel the power there. Like petting a giant work horse. You can feel the power underneath the surface, you know that horse could hurt you but they can hold it in and be so sweet and gentle. That is Sebastian, his voice can be so sweet and gentle. But he can turn that power on whenever he pleases. It is always impressive.
Nice! MANY of us blew our voices out in the 80s attempting to scream along with his songs while driving windows down going absolutely nowhere of any importance whatsoever!!
@@t.c.w.5088 1. Why would Canadians have higher octave voices than singers from any other country? LOL 2. What you said was: "Like all bands in the US had a Canadian Singer..." Vince Neil - Motley Crue Stephen Pearcy - Ratt Jani Lane - Warrant Jon Bon Jovi - Bon Jovi Tom Keifer - Cinderella Axl Rose - Guns 'n Roses Jeff Keith - Tesla ....... I could go on and on and on. And those are just a handful of only hair bands. None are Canadian singers. You named... Sebastian Bach... and Keanu Reeves????? LOLOLOLOL. 1. What other Canadian singers of American bands can you name? 2. What is your evidence for the assertion that American record companies and bands were looking for singers who were specifically from Canada?
I lost my girl to cancer two years ago and this song breaks me every time I hear it. I was a fan when it came out in the eighties and when I hear this now I would not even think of turning it off. I remember you sweetheart. Thank you Elizabeth for talking about this beautiful song.
@@terryhanley8579 YES, Thank you! absolutley LOVE In a Darkened Room, I think it is one of his best... don't get me wrong he has a lot of great stuff he sings, but IMO I think this is his best with the "Power Ballads" .
My God I miss the 80’s!!! I will never forget the day my brother came home with this cassette tape. I listened to this over and over and over again. You have to listen to Quicksand Jesus, Wasted Time, Youth Gone Wild, 18 and Life…just to name a few!
This is the first time I came across your channel, loved this reaction video. I was mesmerized with not only your fascination with Sebastian’s voice but more so your facial expressions. It’s vary rare to see pure human beauty in people these days, but watching you closing your eyes and feeling and hearing the music, the tones, his voice and how it touched you, your facial expressions alone told such a beautiful story. It was simply pure beauty and emotion that made me feel, and that rarely ever happens so thank you 🙏. Thank you for posting this video and allowing all of us to take this journey with you.
Haven't seen anyone mention the song "Youth gone wild" yet. That's another great song of theirs that's a bit edgier. Bach had a helluva range back then! Since leaving Skid Row he's done a lot of musical theater.
Youth Gone Wild is, to me, the musical interpretation of Skid Row. The anger, the frustration, this song was the call to arms for my generation (Gen X).
Elizabeth checking out Skid Row and Sebastian Bach's great vocals. Sebastian Bach was just 20 years old when the song was released. More songs to explore with Skid Row - Wasted Time, 18 and Life, In a Darkened Room for other power ballads and Slave to the Grind and Monkey Business for heavier songs.
Quicksand Jesus and Livin on a Chain Gang are the two that I point to as a Sebastian introduction. LOCG is like a maniac unleashed, Quicksand Jesus is as if that maniac was reeled in a bit.
Whew, this song. I saw them play in Toronto when I was homeless, and this will always have a very special place for me. Being a kid, and being homeless, I was invisible. I fell through all the cracks. People walk by like you don’t exist, and in this song, I saw a piece of me crying, reaching out begging to be remembered, to not be forgotten. And the song being the only voice saying ‘I will remember you.’ Silly, maybe. It gave me hope when I had none. I still cry, hearing it. I loved hearing your quips about the hair - my gods, the hair back then - and gave me a different appreciation for his voice. Thank you for this.
@@fredfredburger5150 Thank you, your comment made me smile. And I am in a better place; I got out of it, made myself a career in tech as the internet bloomed in the late 90s, and work to remind the scared teen I was, that we’re ok. That we made it. And that I won’t forget what we had to endure to get here.
I remember you was the song that my girlfriend loved when it came out. When we lost her, it became the one that reminded me of her the most. I still miss her to this day, almost 34 years later.
he's also amazing live. A lot of 80's metal singers weren't that great live (Vince Neil was awful! ), but Sebastian always killed it. They upstaged multiple bands that I saw them open for live. I wish they'd bring him back, especially since the guy they had as a singer supposedly left.
Reading that diary of Nikki Sixx’s and even in there he mentioned some band opening that nobody ever heard of, but the singer was a hell of a singer. He was talking about skid row and Bach
The video is about a man whose memories are holding him down and so he's letting them go so that he can finally move on with his life. It represents how strong a hold memories can have on us in line with the theme of the song.
To add, he's lamenting that he still remembers her and longs for what they had, and he wonders whether she feels the same... so many people saw this as a love song, when it was a love lossed song. Hence the progression from lighter to angst in his vocal expression.
The album was released Jan 1989. He didnt turn 21 until April of 1989. He was around 19/20 while recording the first album. Which is even more shocking.
I think he was closer to 16-17 years old when he got signed to Skid Row. His vocals were such a gift to music at that time. Still a great performer who brings energy to the stage.
Please God, no. She would butcher that song, and entirely fail to enjoy it (or allow anyone else to enjoy it). She'd stop in all the wrong places, before crescendos, in the middle of crescendos, before crescendos had a chance to fully resolve. She'd chop the harmonizing vocals into and out of that beautiful guitar solo. No. Please God, no.
For my taste in the 70's / 80's many Rock / Hard Rock / Metal Bands composed the most iconic ballads, of the last century! They will never get old, and will always be in my heart! 😍
The "hair bands" of the time was a musical phenomenon. So many bands cranking out so much great music. The music they produced varied from great balads to hard driving head banging. It was a great time to be young, cruising, music blasting, free and wild.
Elizabeth is the best on YT on this genre. I’m not a singer or musically gifted at all. But, her expertise, insight, and explanations are head and shoulders above the rest of the
I have no idea how I ended up with The Charismatic Voice videos on my UA-cam feed, but I'm SO GLAD I did! I've watched countless videos of yours and love them all. It's so fun watching a classically trained, professional opera singer listen to (often for the first time) songs that have been staples in my musical library for decades. Your analysis of these songs is completely fascinating to this rock drummer who knows absolutely nothing about vocal technique. In truth, I've heard "I Remember You" so many times I'd be happy not to hear it again. But your analysis made it fun to revisit this song and helped me understand it on an entirely new level. Many thanks for what you do.
I love how enthusiastic she is about the most subtle minutia of each technique. Just something really beautiful about seeing such enthusiasm for her passion.
Fun fact about this song: the one line at the end of the song that has the extra harmony you noticed on "I remember...", that harmony is sung by Jon Bon Jovi. He heard the song and said "I gotta be on this" so they hid him in there uncredited. In a Darkened Room by Skid Row is my favorite song in the entire world. I have it tattooed on me. It makes me emotional, and Sebastian's voice on that song is unbelievable. Please review that one!! They have been my favorite band since i was a little kid, they mean the world to me. Scotti Hill is hands down my favorite guitar player on earth (who i was lucky enough to meet a few weeks ago and is a truly wonderful person) and he is known for his highly emotive guitar solos, especially on their ballads. As far as what you expected from Skid Row, you're not wrong to think they're edgy, you just picked a soft song 😂 For heavier, edgier Skid Row, i highly recommend Monkey Business, Psycho Love, The Threat or Slave to the Grind
Not trolling. Think you either mistyped or spell check changed it, but think you mean "The Threat". And yes, I agree with you, it's an excellent song for his vocals. I thought for vocal fry a good song for her, though it would never get enough votes on here, would be "Big Guns" off of the 1st album. That ending vocally has to be tough, even for Sab.
@@richardmulkey1772yes in the video, but the video is not a live recording. Scotti sings that part on stage, doesn't mean that's how they recorded it in the studio. They have stated in many interviews that Jon recorded it in the studio. So has Jon.
I, as an old man who heard this on the radio, think, and mind you not a fan 30 years ago, that this is one of the most underrated talents of our age. He's a Gilmore girl for god sake!! This is not only an underrated, talented man but an actual true to life honest to goodness, good man.
You got that right. I was a teeanger in the late 1980's. My first concert ever was Skid Row opening up for Bon Jovi in 1989 (was 18). Skid Row was so much better than Bon Jovi that the rumor was Jon changed Skid Row for a different opening band because the crowds were there for Skid Row. In 1992 Skid Row opened for Ozzy No More Tears tour and again, Skid Row outperformed Ozzy. Bach's vocal range even live was insane.
Geoff Tate did some ridiculous vocal acrobatics on the first two albums my guy. Sebastian's performance is up there that's for sure. Warrel Dane on the first Sanctuary Album...his falsetto was fucking insane
This is an outstanding breakdown, and I'm not even done listening to it yet. This is a song I am working on to sing along to solo acoustic accompaniment. The absolute most important thing that I learned doing this song is what you pointed out at the beginning of this video. If I can sing this as just a part of my natural breathing, taking deep breaths that are timed just before each line, I can make it most of the way through the song. But I struggle with PND, and there is always a fear that I'm going to cough if I take a deep breath right before a line, so I'm only able to keep that up for so long before my discipline breaks. In most songs, there are breaks here and there where I can collect myself, but Bach is doing this the whole freaking song except for the solo. Every single moment of this song outside of the solo is dedicated to some kind of action that gets ready for the next line, and if I miss one of those, the entire rest of the song is kaput. I don't struggle with hitting the notes, per se. I struggle hitting the notes because, quite frankly, I'm winded by the time we get to the tough ones.
The extra vocal harmony at the end of the song is actually Jon Bon Jovi. Skid Rows bassist said in an interview one time he stopped in the studio one day as they were recording this track and they all said “throw down a vocal harmony or something.” Now each time I always notice Bon Jovi’s small vocal thrown in. Amazing detail and amazing song!
I was TODAY YEAR OLD when I heard that harmony in the background. When she noticed it the second time she listened I tuned in more and could hear JBJ in it! Thank you for sharing!
Every bad thing I ever heard about him was just pure jealousy and had no grounds in reality beyond that. People made shit up just to try to make him look bad. He's actually a good guy so those liars were just plain trolls before the Internet was ever a thing.
@@jamescurfman3284I hear ya but he’s done some shit in his day, there was the aids things or the drop kick from the stage he did on that chicks face when someone through a bottle at his head. He’s great though and everyone makes mistakes, his were just in display for the workd
@@backstabbath2690 yeah, talent and good looks doesn’t make someone a good person. The stuff he did back then is well documented. Maybe he grew up, I don’t know, but he was an awful human being back then.
He was a bit wild, he liked to drink and do all the rock star stuff. But like already mentioned there were a lot of trolls in the industry that seemingly went out of their way to bring him down. Not defending, just pointing out that there were definitely 2 sides to all the crap. But hey, he ended up on Gilmour Girls as Gil and was the guitarist for the girls band.
I've yet to see a vocal analyst on YT give enough credit to Sebastian's dirty/distorted screams. That's where his emotional delivery really shines and he's just on another level with it. It's really difficult to figure out how do that without wrecking your voice for the rest of the song. And it's even more difficult to scream on-pitch while walking up and down scales. Now start clean, transition to a dirty scream, then back to clean again like he does in this song. It's simply amazing, and yet too often (IMO) tragically overlooked and underrated.
I was 13 years old when Skid Row's debut album came out and I immediately fell in love with Sebastian Bach. I had posters of him and the band all over my room. It was clear that he was something special and he stood out from the rest of the rock stars of the time. I remember sitting in front of my TV and watching this video over and over. I still get goosebumps when I hear this song. It's so beautiful. I really enjoyed your analysis because after all these years and hundreds of times I've heard it, you've made me hear it in a way I never did before. Like other commenters have said, you should definitely do an analysis of Wasted Time and In a Darkened Room. A few things to know about Sebastian - he began singing pretty early in his childhood and was a natural performer. When he told his father that he wanted to be a rock star his dad said that he would support him and get him the proper training to do it if he was really serious so he did go through professional vocal training. Sebastian's last name isn't really Bach. It's Bierk and his father David was an artist. One of the things he painted was the cover of Skid Row's 2nd album, Slave to the Grind. Sebastian also was on Broadway in Jekyll & Hyde, The Rocky Horror Show, and Jesus Christ Superstar. I was lucky enough to see him in Jekyll & Hyde and The Rocky Horror Show. He was amazing. He also had a role on Gilmore Girls. Sebastian's still going strong and he's one of the only rock guys from the late 80s/90s who still tries to keep that kind of music alive. I think it's so funny that people in the comments here are saying that he's an underrated singer. He absolutely is not. He's known for being one of the best rock vocalists in history. The people who say this must be really young. Just because you've never heard of someone or something doesn't mean that it's underrated. At the time Skid Row's album came out, this kind of music was incredibly popular. Anyway, those of you who want to know more about him should just Google him. There's plenty that you'll find that'll show you that he's far from underrated. There's also a semi-decent A&E Biography that was recently made about him.
His father used to curate the art gallery in Peterborough Ontario. His brother Zac was goalie for the junior A hockey team and played in the 1996 Memorial Cup in Peterborough, before playing briefly in the NHL for Phoenix. Sebastian sang the National Anthem during one of the Memorial Cup games. The sister I believe, rides horses. All round talented family.
I’m not sure how much nasal is too much nasal, but to my untrained ear, this is one of the most beautiful vocals ever! I have been waiting for the Skid Row entrance for a long time.
I'm surprised you didn't gush over that last line more. I can only think of a handful of singers in the rock arena that could deliver a final line like that. The length of the phrase, the amount of air to achieve the powerful climax, and then the tale off at the end. It's one of THE greatest rock/pop climaxes I've ever heard. He's an absolute monster in the genre. And for me, the nasality doesn't turn me off. It helps with the projection and the clarity of diction. Sebastian is at the top tier for this stuff.
From the very instant that I found The Charismatic Voice, a few years ago, I instantly thought of how I’d love for you to hear and react to Sebastian Bach, this song in particular. Today, that dream came true for both of us, as well as everyone else in this beautiful community. Thank you so much for making my day, and may your day be met with Mr. Blue Sky tomorrow!! 🎼🎶🎵
That ending of the first chorus is one of my favorite parts of this whole song, along with the very end of the song. It's just SO hauntingly beautiful. I've loved this song since the day I first heard it in 1988 or 89. It was on my "Love Songs" mixtape that my teenage friends and I would play, chilling in the woods around a bonfire at night, underage drinking, and slow dancing with the girls. Such wonderful memories and such a wonderful song.
Now, imagine you're a slightly angsty 17-year-old with long hair and tight jeans, this is actually a new song, and you're hearing it for the first time. Nothing else ever really hits the same.
What an incredibly awesome time to be alive 🤘😎🤘 (Rock shirt, wrestling shoes, and leather jacket to round out the attire lol) More and more every day I realize how thankful I am, that I got to grow up during the time that I did!
She's asking us about nasality in singing and as the lead singer for over 20 years I think that it does contribute to a lot of singers being able to sound quite good. In fact a lot of guys with bigger noses are really good high pitched singers,,,, think of Steve Perry. Getty Lee. Does the nose have anything to do with it?.... But I must say that Sebastian Bach is not just nasally when he hits those really big high notes you don't hear any nasal sound at all. That's just pure kick ass
Sabastian Bach almost got me grounded as a teen. I had a poster of him on my wall, were he's topless with his hair is down over his chest. Came home from school to find my mother going nuts at me, she thought he was a topless woman... 🤣 Yup, good days indeed!
18 and life is by far my favorite by them . I grew up traveling on the road with my dad who worked for Bon Jovi and Skid Row opened for them on one of the tours. Sebastian's voice carried so amazing through the arenas every night that I hear him and get flashbacks and goosebumps still.
@tomsmith-rr6ch Gaz aka Gary Douglas, he was Richie's tech. If you were on that tour, I was the rugrat running around stage all the time and trying to steal Snakes bike.
@christophertaylor9100 me either. We were born on the same day. Like everyone, we are getting older. My Oil of Olay is just not functioning like a Fountain of Youth.
@@christophertaylor9100 He actually looks like an old lady now, but then quite a bit of the singers from the same time frame or earlier who didn't quite take care of themselves do as well. You could chalk it up to bad genetics or bad living, but at least they were awesome for a moment in time.
If "falling in love" was ever defined in rock music, there it is: "Live for your smile and die for your kiss". I have been married for 32 years and it looks like it is over. That hits me hard.
Years! It's been years asking for your take on Sebastian's voice and it's finally here! Thank you, Elizabeth. Sebastian Bach learned to sing in a church choir if I'm not mistaken, and I remember when I first listened to Skid Row and thinking his voice sounded like lightning. He has such a powerful and underrated voice. I really recommend you to hear In a Darkened Room, from their second album, to have an idea of how powerful his voice can be. But you can get a sense of his range in other songs, like 18 and life, Wasted Time, The Threat and Slave to the Grind. Their first album remains one of my favorite albums of all time
@@jarro6346 every song in this album is great. Big Guns, Rattlesnake Shake, Youth Gone Wild, Elizabeth could choose any one of them and it would be a blast
I have to say the best part of watching these reaction videos particularly to 80’s metal bands is watching you react to the music I grew up on in a time when is “heshers” were basically outcasts. It’s almost like finally getting a reprieve when I see you reacting to what I knew 40 plus years ago was absolutely amazing. I feel so lucky to grow up in the time period I did. I was watching bands like this and motley crew play on the sunset strip for a crowd of 200 people when I was I teenager and I knew how awesome they were then!!
Many years ago I was working backstage catering for a charity show he was performing at. I've been to hundreds of concerts and he has by far the most powerful voice I've heard, which is even more amazing considering I was backstage and only hearing the audio from the stage monitors. He's also a pretty nice guy.
Sebastian’s voice is melodic, gritty, emotive, and powerful. He is a dynamic performer as well. In other words, he is a perfect rock vocalist and deserves every bit of praise he’s ever received, plus much much more. 🤘
Wasted Time and In A Darkened Room are the two most glorious vocal performances by Sebastian Bach, for his seamless clean to vocal fry sustained notes. Absolutely incredible!
Wonderful reaction and analysis! Girl, you NEED to react to "Wasted Time"! It will definitely blow your mind and you will be finally witness to Sebastian Bach's powerful and expressive vocal talent. He really really gave every inch of his soul into his singing and the lyrics. Trust me, you'll love that. Greetings from Argentina!❤❤❤
Wasted Time is the next Skid Row's reaction we are waiting for! Incredible lyrics, stunning voice, simply a great great song. I almost cry everytime I hear it. I hope you will choose this one 🙏🤘
80’s music still gives me butterflies because it reminds me of such an amazing time to grow up. There’s a movie that plays in my head of riding in truck beds to the river and everyone singing at the top of their lungs or cruising up and down main street in my Trans Am with the t-tops off and everyone having their music blasting or jumping off cliffs into old coal pits and someone’s car radio blaring in the background. Growing up in the country we didn’t have much so everything revolved around music. I’d go back if I could. I’m still grieving 🤣
@@africanblue I remember an interview with Sebastian talking about his fathers death and there were 8 kids all trying to split up his art collection and he mentioned the Slave to the grind cover being his
I saw them live in a medium sized club, I can't ever forget how amazing he sang "In a Darkened Room". It felt like I was literally...well..in his voice. That only happened two other times, Steve Perry and Sharon den Adel did the same thing. Bach is just amazing!!
Oh my gosh! You’ve never done this song before?! This is going to be fun. The lyrics, his singing, his performance. Seriously, to be that good looking and have that much talent is just not fair to the rest of us.
As a guitar player that learned how to play through the 70's & 80's, I always felt the guitars on this album were the best guitar tones of the 80's, absolutely huge and cavernous, the louder you play the album the better it sounds, and Sebastian Bach's voice was insane, they opened for Aerosmith at the Cow Palace and they were awesome!
You brought me back to Skid Row and now I appreciate the band and Sebastian even more now - and and especially now with 30 years of music experience, I can hear all of the details you focus on!
Great introduction to one of the best voices from the era. Fun fact: Skid Row's 2nd album Slave To The Grind was the first metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard charts.
Absolutely! I remember getting the cassette single for "Monkey Business" before the album was released and I wore that sucker out, working at Little Caesar's Pizza at the time. My friends and I got to see them open for GN'R in Birmingham, AL at a horse track with 180,000+ in attendance. Both bands absolutely KILLED!!! Good times, and so many fond memories.
What I love about Sebastian Bach’s singing is his breath control and phrasing. This makes this song so smooth and makes the transition to instrumental solos just a smooth.
I remember my high school girlfriend coming to my house very excited that a friend had given her a ticket to see "Bon Jovi and some band I've never heard of". That new band was Skid Row. She couldn't stop talking about Skid Row for 2 weeks after that. This song gives me goosebumps every time
So funny! My best friend and I were excited to go to our first concert at 12 years old…Bon Jovi in Philadelphia. I left that concert a huge Skid Row fan and never looked back. Bon who?😉
I really appreciate how you are so fun and expressive and allow your heart to come out in your videos. I watch your videos all the time and just want to say just be you! You rock! God Bless!
Years ago I was picking up my girlfriend at my best friends house. I walked in on them making out, but Skid Row's Youth Gone Wild was playing on the tv. I didn't have MTV, so I watched the video and then left. Didn't talk to either of them again, but Skid Row is still there for me. Seeing them live later on was amazing.
The band doesn’t get enough credit for being able to fill and support Bach so well. They are so tight and no one knows their names unlike some other bands. Everyone knows Mick and Nikki from Crue but these guys in Skid Row were fantastic
True. Snake and Scotti's sound is so unique. Rachel probably was more well known for his nose-chain than his bass playing heh but he has some really cool bass parts on a lot of songs. And Rob is a really powerful drummer.
Fantastic band, and they haven't exactly downgraded in terms of vocalists either: ZP Theart (OG Dragonforce) put up an epic show a couple of years ago, perfect bloke for the band living his own 80's dream on stage. They had Erik Grönwall replace him on mic duty, dude nails whatever he sings. And the latest shows are done by Lzzy Hale.
In a Darkened Room would be my choice, cause it’s my absolute favourite for mix of voice and guitar from Skid Row. All the other songs are great as well, but this is my absolute choice, since I Remember You has already been done. Thanks very much for doing this song, I’ve been waiting years, and this is my first comment here :)
I've seen hundreds of artists in concert and there are only two voices that have ever shocked me with their power and emotion, Sinead O'Connor and Sebastian Bach. His vocal power is otherworldly
Just love this song. Always stirs up deep emotions from one of my favorite times in my life. 1989-1990, I was a freshmen in Highschool and had a lot of older friends, Jr's and Seniors who I grew up with. Seemed every weekend I was hanging out with them, going to parties, and having all my "firsts" that year. Songs like this one and Aerosmith's "Angel" take me back to that year and memory's of girlfriends I wish I had never lost touch with. Wish we had social media or email back then. We only had old phone numbers to land lines. ... 30+ years later, I think back now to memories of great friends. Many of whom have sadly since passed away. Embrace life. Let hate and anger and jealousy go. Embrace every moment you have with the people you walk these paths with in your journey.
18 and Life will really showcase his range and vocal skills. And the story the song tells is a killer! So true for so many young people back in the day. Great video to boot!
This song is almost 36 years old. I've seen him perform throughout the years and people still really love seeing him get up there. I don't believe i've heard him sing this nearly close to this in many, many years. But, remembering when it came out and even now, just how the whole song comes across...I think it's one of the greatest rock ballads. Especially of that era of music. Passionate. I love your disections in these videos. It allows me to really understand & picture things more, whether it's the physical body & the way it works or just giving me new imagery with the way the song itself comes across. I've had a block with singing so these things will help me get back on track.❤
BEST SONG EVER! I CANT TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I'VE WATCHED THIS VIDEO IN MY 60 YEARS! One of the sexiest lead vocalists of our days for sure. THAT HAIR AND THOSE LIPS. HE'S JUST BEAUTIFUL! He was on The Masked Singer and STILL has that amazing voice!
18 and Life is my favourite of his Skid Row songs. Even as a teenager, I got shivers from that one.
I agree!
Yep. She has to listen to that song.
Great video too! In the 80s the video added a lot...a phenomenon long lost in the MP3 age☹
100% agree!
Yes let’s all recommend it to Elizabeth to analyze 18 and Life in the future.
I couldn't help but tap on this video even though I knew I'd be crying the whole way through. It was the song that my wife and I danced to at our wedding. Cancer took her from me a few years back and every time I hear this song it absolutely destroys me, but I can't ever bring myself to turn it off.
Sorry for your loss. It is a beautiful song.
Oh gosh. Listening through a lens of loss and now I'm crying too...
I lost mine two years ago, we loved the old rockers...this song hurts. Sorry for your loss Brother, I believe they are waiting for us to join them.
She lives in you bro

One of my favorite singers of all time!!! I get goosebumps man!!!!
And it's crazy how young he was. Dude had a gifted voice.
@@pauladeitch3739 Yeah! These three songs are awesome! Monkey business is my favourite!
@esegueojogo the rapid fire delivery on Monkey Business is insane and rivals the best of the rappers
Another vote for “Monkey Business”

And the song being the only voice saying ‘I will remember you.’
Silly, maybe. It gave me hope when I had none.

Been listening to this song here and there for 35 years. Still gives me shivers. Wonderful piece of the 80's. Thankful for it.
Sebastian Bach was 21 years old when he laid down these vocals. TWENTY ONE YEARS OLD. Mind blowing...
The album was released Jan 1989. He didnt turn 21 until April of 1989. He was around 19/20 while recording the first album. Which is even more shocking.
Unfortunately, he ain’t got it now and he still thinks he’s 22
Yeah he was 19 or 20 here
I think he was closer to 16-17 years old when he got signed to Skid Row. His vocals were such a gift to music at that time. Still a great performer who brings energy to the stage.

You definitely need to choose “Wasted Time” for your next Skid Row analysis!

It's heartening to hear a music person talk about music as one myself. These silly little details are the juice/spark of ear candy. Thank you
Fun fact about this song: the one line at the end of the song that has the extra harmony you noticed on "I remember...", that harmony is sung by Jon Bon Jovi.

Abso-fuckin-lutely
Snake was almost in Bon Jovi before Richie Sambora. And then Bon Jovi was instrumental in getting Skid Row signed & has SK open for them on tour.
I was TODAY YEAR OLD when I heard that harmony in the background. When she noticed it the second time she listened I tuned in more and could hear JBJ in it! Thank you for sharing!
Really?! That's pretty awesome. It's a shame they had a falling out at one point.
When I saw them in concert, Skid Row opened for Bon Jovi. It was one of the best shows I had ever seen.

Exactly, he has such a rare gift and hard earned skill, there’s a reason you don’t hear many cover band or karaoke bars playing this! 🤣

“18 and Life” is a great one from Skid Row

I would love to see her reaction to quicksand Jesus. Sebastian really shows his vocal abilities on that song
I totally agree. Always brings tears to my eyes.
Once again i love seeing your reactions to songs i have been listening to for 30 years. I saw them live with GNR in Sydney back in the early 90s.
Wasted Time and In A Darkened Room are the two most glorious vocal performances by Sebastian Bach, for his seamless clean to vocal fry sustained notes. Absolutely incredible!
And don’t forget the last note of Quicksand Jesus. He has said that’s the highest he ever sang…
Fun fact - Sebastian's father drew the album artwork. 'Wasted Time' is a must listen
Any source for your fun fact?
@@africanblue lookup David Bierk, Canadian artist. He did Slave to the Grind art.
Clarifying, his father did Slave to the grind art
@@africanblue I remember an interview with Sebastian talking about his fathers death and there were 8 kids all trying to split up his art collection and he mentioned the Slave to the grind cover being his
Wasted time is the best in vocal terms, really shows Sebastian's abilities
I am always so impressed with his use of vibrato. Some of the best of any male rock vocalist.
Manifestly unjust 😂
Not to mention his stunning work on Trailer Park Boys
He also got famous in the 80s for unapologetically wearing a T-shirt that read "AIDS Kills F**s Dead." (But without my censoring)
He would have it all if he had any brains😂😂
@@annmariemills1554well, nobody is actually perfect. 😂 His personality makes up for his shortcomings
I saw them open for Aerosmith in Kansas City as well. They were spectacular live! No gimmicks, just straight up in your face belting from the heavens.
@@BartmanKC and in your face bottles thrown by Bach if you weren’t careful.
Extraordinary vocal talent. Great musicians and songwriters. Probably deserved more back in the day
You brought me back to Skid Row and now I appreciate the band and Sebastian even more now - and and especially now with 30 years of music experience, I can hear all of the details you focus on!

Killer album
@@TimKCSportsFan the best in their catalogue
@@blgeiger71 I still have slave on cassette !
This song takes me back to when I was 16 & in love with Sebastian Bach. Now I'm 50 & still in love with this song. All the same feels...❤
I was 17....51 now. Still love their music.
What I love about Sebastian Bach’s singing is his breath control and phrasing. This makes this song so smooth and makes the transition to instrumental solos just a smooth.
One of the most perfect ballads of the era. Not just because of his awesome voice. Every instrument worked perfectly in harmony to create a classic!
Bon who?😉
Wasted time is incredible. Ive been waiting years for a Bach reaction.
Sebastian Bach had one heck of a set of pipes back in the day. I see we all recommend that Wasted Time should be your next reaction 😀
Just looked for videos of this song, none of them are official or great. :(
the version of In a darkened room on the album bring em bach alive is fantastic
That hand off always gave me goosebumbs :)
You won't regret this. One of the best songs and vocalists ever.
I've watched some of your videos, but I don't think I've ever seen you as excited and amazed as you were with Sebastian Bach.
Sebastian is classically trained and is one of the best vocalists in his generation of singers. - Glad you found him.
I did not know that but it makes complete sense.
I did know that. His voice is pure and beautiful. And he is gorgeous!! I definitely had a teenage crush on him!
Love the praise you gave to the solo..One of my favorite guitar solos. Not too complex, but melodic as can. It’s hands down beautiful.
This one is totally awesome. "Wasted time" is another crazy level of awesomeness!
His vocal performance on “Wasted Time” is even stronger than on “I Remember You”.
Watching her appreciative reactions, facial expressions, and her verbalizing (her description) of what she is hearing… this is ASMR.
