Beautiful work. You may want to add a tiny plastic foot to the bottom of each corner. It will lift the wood from the cement and add years to your creation by allowing rain to completely drain off. Well done.
Aww. All the videos I've seen so far are you creating something for your parents. They're lucky to have such a helpful and generous daughter. I would love a indoor coffee table like this but I haven't used power tools since the 8th grade so Idk if I'll be able to do such a amazing design.
You’re gonna laugh, but I’m going to make the chevron tabletop out of pressure treated 2x6 leftover from a deck build. I’m going to get the contrasts from different colored stains. And then polyurethane the heck out of it. I’m thinking I need to wait 3 or 4 months for the pressure treated lumber to dry out, run it through the planer and see what happens. I need to thank my wife for the idea. Instead of commenting on the replacing of the crumbling 20 year old deck, her first comment was, “What’s that pile of wood for?” (Being a natural born liar, I quickly came up with- “Two 8 foot tables that can join when your family is in town.” The Chevron style is all thanks to you and this video. Thanks for posting it. Just great work!)
I didn`t intend to make use of this woodworking book, t.co/SGIXIPXR0z but rather curious about it. I had been truly amazed right after trying it. It never disappointed me in my wish to acquire more information about the art of wood working. Many topics were covered, including everything from wood types to developing your workshop.?
Wonderful work. This table is simply magnificent. On the miniature, it looks like the legs of the table are made of metal. I came across your channel completely by watching the video on the sliding door, which also looks great. I plan to get into woodwork soon and thanks to you, I already have two projects on hold;). Good luck and thank you for what you do. A viewer from Belgium. (Sorry for English, but I do this via google translation)
Very nice job! If the cedar doesn’t last as long as you would like, soak the ends in waterproofing for 3 minutes. The USDA- Forestey did a study and that’s all it takes to properly seal the ends. I absolutely love the burning technique, again great job,
DIY Huntress I just found this and thought I’d share it with you it’s lengthy but great information www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/fplgtr/fplgtr190/chapter_16.pdf
Turned out nice. Since you glued it, I would suggest flipping the top stretchers so the pocket holes are covered by the top if you wanted to be sneaky with the hiding.
Thank you! The reason I didn’t do that is because I wanted to avoid having any water accidentally pool in any of the pocket hole openings if it were to seep underneath the boards. I know I glued them, but I still get so paranoid with outdoor projects. 🙈
You have probably the very best DIY channel ever. This table is AMAZING. 🤩 Funny thing is for probably a year now I've been looking for all different DIY videos on UA-cam and i have never seen YT recommending me any of your videos. And I've been looking for many stuff that You did! Instead I had to watch thousands of hopeless videos to find something good. Srsly UA-cam, get your shit together :x
Hey Sam, that looks great, you explain how do it real well. I need a new top for my home office desk and I'm thinking that might be a way to do it. Thanks a lot
You do good work, I gotta get on it n start doin some stuff again I really like these tables and the geometric wood wall art stuff somethin different from what I’m used to doin , I’m sub’d keep it up!
Good work and beautiful.. Just I would like to know about the system of drill pocket holes system that you mentioned it. It looks fast and easy.. Thanks
I love the design and I'm thinking about building this table. How sturdy is this build? If someone sat on this (hopefully no one would), would it support their weight?
Very, Very, Very Cool Kid!!! Your parents are gonna be super proud Kid!! The color differences really made this table pop. Hope all is well & Dirty Jersey out!!Oh, we're gonna be in da city on Sun. Taking da wife to see Wicked @ da Gershwin Theater and then you know we def. gotz to go to Astoria for some Greek food!!!
Once you burn the wood and brush it off with the brush, does the “burnt” still come off on your hands when you handle it? Just thinking ahead when I try this for my first time. Thanks.
Such an amazing table! Quick questions. Do you need to seal the legs as well? Does that prevent any of the charcoal from coming off when it is touched?
I love this wood working book t.co/SGIXIPXR0z . A few of the topics talked about in the book include wood working strategies, explanation on the development cycles of trees, and various lumber characteristics that craftsmen favor. I also provided my father another copy.
Great job. Thanks for sharing. You are very clever. I wonder what a "zebra" herringbone coffee table would look like. (alternating natural spray laquered pieces of cedar wood and burned pieces as you did the frame part)
I basically did that for my DIY Barn Door and used pin nails and wood glue on a plywood backing. It’s been holding up BEAUTIFULLY and it’s been hanging outside of a bathroom for a year now. 😍
Love the contrast between the sapwood and the heartwood! Awesome job Sam!
Thank you! I feel like I got lucky with this lumber haul!
Beautiful work. You may want to add a tiny plastic foot to the bottom of each corner. It will lift the wood from the cement and add years to your creation by allowing rain to completely drain off. Well done.
Beauty stuff! No table saw, no jointer, no planer, no 100k power tools. Just simple and well-built table.

Whattt! I didn’t know that! That’s such a good hack - thank you!
Just passing it forward :). Don’t forget all six sides of a board needs to be treated. Not hard to forget here in the South when it’s humid lol

Nice table. 👍 Have the mitred ends on the table top outer trim separated leaving gaps from being outside and exposed to the weather???

Such a clear, informative tutorial! Thank you for the step by step, you make it look easy!!

This looks great!! Does the wood burning affect how well the wood glue adheres or does it hold well enough?
Thank you! It’s been outside for a while and still looks great!

Once you burn the wood and brush it off with the brush, does the “burnt” still come off on your hands when you handle it? Just thinking ahead when I try this for my first time. Thanks.
It definitely wipes off a bit... that’s why I always recommends sealing when you’re done. Once the wood is sealed, it won’t come off anymore!
Beautiful table where would you suggest I go to find cedar boards?
Thank you! I got mine at Home Depot!
Wow this is beautiful! Thank you for sharing!

Such an amazing table! Quick questions. Do you need to seal the legs as well? Does that prevent any of the charcoal from coming off when it is touched?

How would you attach or joint a herringbone pattern for a dining room table that will last years?
I basically did that for my DIY Barn Door and used pin nails and wood glue on a plywood backing. It’s been holding up BEAUTIFULLY and it’s been hanging outside of a bathroom for a year now. 😍
