My dear Sam. You cannot always be torn in two. You will have to be one and whole for many years. You have so much to enjoy and to be and to do. Your part in the story will go on.
Looks really good, I think I would have put a rebate in the side pieces using a router, love the design and it has given me an idea for a bench I want to make.
I wonder if it would work to build it kind of in reverse? Start with building the frame for each one of the four rectangles inside the bench, attach the boards while leaving them a bit long and them trim the ends with a track saw like you do for you geometric wood projects. Then you could attach the centre cross beams and frame pieces around those finished rectangles. Maybe it wouldn't work structurally for some reason, but it seems like it might help with the dodgy angles.
Great bench. That "charcoaling" is really cool (hot at the very moment). You had a successful fight with the warped wood. Thanks for being an inspiration. Stay safe and happy holidays.
I love that design you used for the top part with the triangles. Wish i could do that with my project but going to be hard on a bookcase that im making.
Looks really great! Pocket holes on bottom not only looks better, they will not allow water in them, only spiders. Did you use galvanized nails? Otherwise will they not simply rust out quickly?
Hello, You inspired me to try to make this. Have you found that the way the chevron pieces are attached to the thin board frame that it is weak in any way. I am asking as i am a heavy person. I wouldn't want to break it. Me and the wife i am guessing are close to 500 lbs. most of it is me. Also can you tell me what brand of spar you used? Thank you. I think this bench is wonderful!
Nice job, Sam. It is an attractive piece. Will you go back to work via Zoom or 'the old fashioned way'? At this point in time, my entire family is waiting to be told if they will be using Zoom or not. Have a good vacation. I'm looking forward to the new projects. Each of the latest projects seems to be better than the previous one. Stay safe.
Thank you! I’ve been working remotely since March. Not sure what’s to come after the summer. Thanks for all of the love! Best wishes to you and the family!
Wow! That is a beautiful bench! I love chevron furniture, but was always worried about the wood expansion. The spaces fixe that. Great idea! I have 2 questions: 1) Would you mind explaining why you put water on the wood between sanding? 2) Why do you use a urethane with cedar? Isn't it already weather resistant? Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thank you! I wet the grain because when you add a finish to raw wood, it can “raise the grain” or make the wood feel hairy. By raising the grain and knocking it down, it stops it from feeling hairy when you add the finish. As for the urethane, it helps keep the cedar tan - cedar naturally greys outdoors. Hope this helps!
@@diyhuntress trebuchet seems impractical as it draws too much attention. A catapult you can easily hide behind your fences so better for sneak attacks. You would get a few views if you built a catapult.
Let me axe Ya a question SuperCat?? Would you consider doing the Shoosiobohn (I know I mis spelled it), only enough to show the grain a burnt & still have natural wood color showing. Is that technique named the same?? Just curious is all. Great build as always Homes. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!!
I am so in love with this bench! We’re having a massive spike in the county I live in so I’m not going anywhere but as soon as I can, I want to attempt something like this! Thank you!
I want to build this Sam. It is so beautiful. Good job. One question -- how do you keep your Vans so clean? I can never keep my shoes clean in the shop.
Whoa! Stumbled on your channel as a beginner and this looks amazing!! But it might be too much of a challenge for me right now 😔. I would love to make this. (Btw, earned a new sub 😊)
So stoked you’re here! If you’re looking for a similar project to get your feet wet with - check out the chevron coffee table version I have on my channel. 😊
Thank you so much! Absolutely! You can purchase most of the lumber in the sizes I cut them to for this project. I just had to mill my own because I had to use what the store had in stock. 😊
@@diyhuntress I'm new in your channel and i am not sure if you already had a project on making a some kind of a murphy table for kids that can be use as craft table or study table since the new normal for schooling now is online class. Hope you could make one in the future. Thanks.
I have the materials breakdown on my website (I know lumber price can vary by location). But, I spent a little less than $50 for the lumber for this project.
Do not stop making chevron projects. That is so nice.
DEAL!
Love the way this chevron bench turned out!!
cool project Sam, the tip to keep frame square is to secure offcut peice of wood corner to corner.
This is gorgeous..i would love this in dining table size for my deck

Chevron patterns in furniture and doors are the best!! (I think that's what drew me to your channel:) Keep up the lovely projects!
I’m obsessed - so happy you like them too! Thank you!
Looks great! Prior to watching the video, the photo looked like you had made metal legs, great technique with the wood burning!
So cool! That’s the look I was going for. Thank you!
Another well executed project! It turned out great especially considering the challenges you had with the wood. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much!
I made your cedar table for my parents and they loved it. Might have to make this bench next.
This makes me so happy! 😍
This is perfect for our back verandah. Now I just need to wait until winter is over. Great work Sam!
Thank you! Hope you get to make one!

Your very welcome Sam! Have a great weekend!😎
I love that design you used for the top part with the triangles. Wish i could do that with my project but going to be hard on a bookcase that im making.
Thank you so much! You could probably do it if you nailed the chevron pattern to the sides of the bookcase after building! Just an idea! 😊
@@diyhuntress yeah but I plan on at least putting on one side my sister in law name that passed this year to remember her by.
What an amazing way to to honor her. So much love to you. 💞

What a beautiful project. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you so much!
That looks great! Especially with the darker legs.
Thank you!
Turned out great Sam! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks, Fred! You’re the best.
Great bench, Sam. I may have to build one for my deck (maybe without the chevron - we'll see). Stay well. Bill
Thank you! Go for it! 🙌🏼
Nice build and video! Beautiful bench. Warped lumber is frustrating. : ) Mahalo for sharing! : )
Thank you! It is, but made it work (somehow 😂)! Much love, friend!
Looks great i like the chevron might make one of these myself, keep up the great content
Thank you! I’d love that!
Awesome bench Sam! Looks great with the table!

Do you run into any racking issues with the legs? Looks fantastic btw.

DIY Huntress sorry I replied late. Just came back from the job which we did some epoxy 👀 🔥. I’ll definitely check that video out!!! 🙌🏼
You did a great job. It’s absolutely beautiful! Can this be made without a table saw? I don’t have one.
Thank you so much! Absolutely! You can purchase most of the lumber in the sizes I cut them to for this project. I just had to mill my own because I had to use what the store had in stock. 😊
DIY Huntress I am going to try to make one. I like the idea of it being a table for the hall by the front door.
I love that!
Hi, if I was doing this and it was so warm, I would just glue all the pieces on, let the glue set for a couple of hours and the turn it over and nail
That’s definitely an option! I was nervous it would t be enough pressure to hold tightly while curing.
Nice job sweetie!
Thanks!
It looks like she’s replying to everyone so I just want to say I love all your videos
