Rudy, I REALLY like the idea of grafting that rear roof section back onto the roof where you cut it off behind the B-Pillar. And you definitely need to keep the little duck tail flip-up thingy on that rear roof section too!
Make sure you adjust the valve lash on that OM617 before you stuff it in the Mini, valve lash has a huge impact on power, economy, cold starting ability, and ultimately engine longevity. It'll be a huge pain to do after you have the engine stuffed halfway under the dash to fit it in the Mini engine bay. Also, don't use a Victor Reinz valve cover gasket unless you want it to leak in a couple months.
I'm of the belief you call it "Crawl-Ela Coop-deVille", and put a dalmation dog paint job on it. I don't know, something that just popped into my head. Following the build for sure.
The fwd burnout brings back memories, when I was a kid we would steal a couple of McDonalds food trays, stick them under the back tires on a fwd vehicle, lock the e-brake and then rip it. It was absolutely hilarious fun.
Static Charges will allow an airbag to go off so keep that in mind if you’re not gonna resell them and not use them, cut the leads and tie the Wires together and tape them off that will make them enable to go off
I must disagree, we own 4 of these 1st gen MINI's (2 Convertibles & 2 Sunroof Hatches) and love them. One has almost 289K and had driven to 49 of the 50 states. So much fun!
@@Mini-Driver No! Bad mini driver, you know the life you chose do not try to defend it. These are extremely well known for being absolute piles of junk. How many were sold vs. how many are still with us today? How much money have you sunk into that mini with 289k on the clock? Probably enough to buy a new Toyota 🤣. As for how they drive.... Come on man my 1989 Volvo 240 station wagon (that ended life with well over 300k on the original motor) was more fun than any mini I've had the displeasure of driving.
@@cflwhat Over the 20+ years we've owned our original; one clutch, one supercharger, brakes & rotors, and general maintenance. Right now the radio isn't working, my only issue. We also have a Mercedes and Subaru along with a Suzuki outboard on our boat. Do the maintenance and have fun driving.
@@Mini-Driver sounds like you have a way cooler collection than I do... Too bad you like mini's so much, what a waste. @@Mini-Driver lack of maintenance for sure contributes to the plethora of known huge issues especially with 1st Gen mini's. Crawlin Cooper, Mega Mini. Rudy quote: " Because this car is actually really tiny." Build thoughts, consider the seating position if you moved it back 8 inches or so.
That should be a neat little buggy just make sure you take enough time to get the engine/mechanical part of the build straightened that seems to be the one that bites you.
I’m all for being different and to each their own but I just can’t wrap my head around the decision to use a Mini Cooper for an overlanding build. Since you like Corvairs like your dad I can’t help but think a Corvair Greenbrier Van would have made for a super cool overlanding build. Oh well I’m sure you’re gonna whip up something cool.
People are already upset with Rudy cutting up a Cooper can you imagine the outrage if he was to cut up a Greenbrier not to mention the On-X budget restrictions.
I really like what you're doing with this build! I also, really like how you've ended up editing your video content compared to when you first started out. You've come a long way & hope your channel continues to grow
Watching these onx builds and builds like these inspire and motivate me to get out in my shop and build something or finish a project, somtimes it makes me want to go clean the shop, thank you. Keep up the good work.
All right Rudy, enough is enough. Higgins is the real talent here. It's time for Higgins to get his own channel. And merch. And an editor. And maybe Instagram and Patreon.
Looking forward to watching the "MINIRAD" in all its glory bombing up and down the trails! What a creative interesting fun project. Thanks for bringing us along!
