      I was thinking the same! Matt once said it was a "strained neck". They need to find a gentle chiropractor in the area. It can work wonders, especially if it is primarily percussion tool adjustments and not necessarily traditional manual style. My practice is way too far away over here in Sacramento. I use the Arthrostim tool. It could most likely
      significantly speed the healing process.

    Differential advice from an ancient retired technician. When regearing a differential I always reuse the pinion depth shims. I do this because it's the housing that is likely to be out of spec and pinion is a highly tolerance item so you're not likely to go wrong reusing the shims. For the preload on your carrier also like to go + .001" to .0015" do the measure Gap to get the proper preload on the carrier bearings. But you probably already knew this stuff

    • @hillarylevenworth8824
      @hillarylevenworth8824 Рік тому +1

      They have no press or bearing separator to get the old pinion shim off. They talk about it when he starts his setup process.

    • @marlobreding7402
      @marlobreding7402 Рік тому +1

      @@hillarylevenworth8824 hot retro take that old bearing off and you could still save the shims at least enough of it to get a measurement. You're talking to somebody with over 50 years Automotive experiencing hundreds of differential so I know what I'm talking about. Unless of course you have the setup jig for that particular differential then you could go from scratch. But regearing a differential isn't terribly hard especially Theory use the pinion depth shim.

    Just in case you were serious about throwing the old drill press in the scrap pile - I encourage selling it cheap or giving it away with all the caveats you want. There are tons of aspiring machinists and young shop people who would benefit from it, or taking it on specifically as a project to make it better (replace bad bearings, bore out the casting to true things up or sleeve bad fits, etc) as a learning project or use parts from it to repair other machines. Thanks for the great video on the front end repair and upgrades!

I can’t stop an episode half way through, I taught welding and wood working to 8th, 9th & 10 grade. NO there were no extra fingers at the end of the week or school year! Lol😊

    It takes time to do things right. Don't feel bad because estimated time is never the same as real time as I have been down that road before. I'm not surprised but glad you showed how to measure gear lash in the diff. Many DIY's don't do this and wonder why it fails after minimal use. I used to work on my own car years ago and had to improvise different ways to remove or install components but the one thing I wish I had was a lift like yours.
    I am glad you post videos for us to see the reality of building something but I would like to know what video editing software you use. It is also a big investment and now that I am retired, I have many home videos to edit and transfer from VHS (yes you read that right)!

Through trial and lots of error finally got a worthy racer. Note we needed the help of pros that had skills like Matt and Tom for the more technical things.

    First. Let me say how much i love what you guys have accomplished with your shop and my favorite UA-cam Channel.
    I've set up a bunch off gears and the first step is finding the pinion depth. it's usually stamped on the end of the pinion gear. It will give you the measurement you need to start out. i usually put a couple of shortened push rods across the landings where the bearing caps go. add the thickness of those rods and you have your depth. I know I'm late to this video comment but i thought i had to add my 2 cents. in the last 40 years I've even used cut up coke cans for shims. even on drag cars. you have inspired me to start working on projects that got sidelined the last few years. keep up the fantastic and completely entertaining channel that you have built! love you guys!
