Excellent presentation, great communication skills. Those tanks are amazing. You are right in some respects. It's like going to a car dealer to buy a small vehicle and finding yourself admiring the Ferrari in the luxury car's show room. Nothing wrong with it.
But let's be honest. I can stare at a Ferrari all I want or truly desire it, but I know that not in a thousand years will I be able to afford it. And now after watching your video series, I realize that's the same for those amazing aquaecapes. Gorgeous all you want, but I wonder how many ppl with families and normal jobs are going to be able to spend tens of thousands of dollars for a tank!
The features are top notch, they work fantastic, but let's be real. One doesn't need to spend that kind of money to enjoy a beautiful aquarium in the living room with some fish in it. I get it. You are here to promote a business. But guys, I feel like I AM the fish, and those beautiful aquascapes dangled in front of my nose are a clever bait to rip me off. Lol!

Patience is one of the most important things beginners should really internalize. In our fast modern world, we are just a click away from whatever we want to have. But you cant just buy a beautiful Aquarium. It comes with alot of preparation, effort and experience - and first of all Patience. All good things take time :) Cheers.

Well apparently you cannot have a beautiful tank UNLESS you can buy it! CO2 systems, RO systems for those us in hardwater areas, expensive high tech plant lights, two types of soil that isn't cheap... Seems like aquascaping is only for people with deep pockets, and patience won't do a damn thing to help a hobbyist like me.

Another awesome video. You're right on most accounts about what beginners have to deal with and how they think. I've been fish keeping since I was very young, I'm almost 50 now. However, I never thought about planted tanks, I always focused on keeping fish with ornaments and plastic plants. However, despite all my efforts, algae would grow on them. I finally thought about adding real plants to fight the algae. I added a few plants to my 120cm tank and viola, the algae was gone and the plants made the tank look great. I started to plan the tank slowly and added more plants. Within a few months, my tank looked amazing! I couldn't believe how good it began to look and my plants were also doing well. That success got me hooked on planted tanks and then I found your channel. OMG!!! I was in heaven!

What is a lot of money? Like my first tank cost me less than a skiing trip to Austria. Please don't upset me, we are different cultures, different social and financial background people. Some of us like to fight, work, wait for any time possible to get stuff we really want, others like to whine and want instant gratification. Here you go.

@@GreenAquaShop 'Expensive' is obviously relative, but for example 500 euro's will not get you really far in aquarium's, but it is a pretty chunk of money, especially if you dont earn that much. The obvious counter argument is 'what is 500 or 1000 euro for something you will enjoy for years', but people dont know if this will really be their thing when they start. So they want to throw something together for as cheap as possible and if they like it then buy better stuff later, but then the result is not what they want and they get disheartened and the upgrades never come.

For me, the first adventure of aquascaping IS the time. The enjoyment is in building something living by myself...if I had it instantly, the enjoyment would be fleeting. Second adventure is what can I build by myself that can give me exactly what I want? For example, LED lighting: sure I can buy the perfect light for a certain price...but there is enjoyment in making my own light which exactly suits my needs. Also, when I make things myself I understand more intimately the process. But one must understand what is better to invest in and not DIY (like CO2, as you said). One other thing I want to DIY, if I can, is hardware and software to monitor my water parameters and such. Anyways, thanks for this video and all your work to develop this channel!! I am glad to binge-watch your videos in my long planning phase!

I must say that I’m still a beginner. But, whoever started their first tank as a low tech tank (no co2, low light, little plant, etc.), they still can keep the tank. All they need to do is upgrade slowly. Mistakes is the best teacher. That’s the journey we can enjoy, good and bad, they are still enjoyable journey. Thanks for today’s quality content guys. Very much love it! 🙏🏼

Yes, that is true, but we lost so many people to this hobby by being frustrated because of the poor looks of the tank, and the plants etc, that we really want to inspire everybody to do something they will be sure to enjoy in the long run. YES! Just YES! 🙏 Thank you so much Balazs! This is exactly what I needed. For the last 3 weeks I've been going berserk on gaining info and ideas on youtube, just to give my son's betta a better beautiful home. Was thinking of getting a Fluval Flex 34L..but bought a 2nd hand Fluval 87L tank because I thought the simpel 20L tank that we already had was not good enough. The cause was that I'd only seen big beautiful aquascapes like the ones on your channel and many others. So bigger was better i thought. *buzzer* WRONG! Seen a lot pf your vids, but THIS one ..is the Aquarium Bible for any beginner!I've got a notebook full of your teachings from previous vids and this one. Looked up local cost and did a budget. Even did sketches for possible hardscapes that I can apply to my simpel clean little 20L tank. The wife was getting on my case for not having started one already these past weeks. 😆 Like you said, I didn't want to rush into impulse buying on wrong equipment, only to be left with regret and more work, time and money to correct my mistakes. Anyways, this is becoming a novel 🤣 just wanted to say thanks for guiding me/us into the world of aquascaping. Green Aqua's vids are a joy to watch. Cheers! Totally agreed! I started with all the cheap equipment thinking I will save a bit of money to start with. I was completely wrong. I think for us beginner to start this hobby, we should save up a little bit more to get a decent system (good tank, filter, light and co2. No need to go all ADA). That way, we start off well and won’t be disappointed with bad result. Of course a little research on planting technique will help. Thank you Green Aqua. Cheers from Indonesia 🇮🇩

great video, people especially when they are starting they try to find easy/cheap solutions, and often times this will lead to frustration and eventually quitting the hobby.
I think the main advice for beginners should be: "Manage your expectations and be prepared to fail" because everyone here had to fail to learn. thankfully we have Green Aqua to tell us that failing is an option every tank has algae and in the end, if we persist we will succeed.

Not to point fingers, but there are a lot of shops who go for the profit only, and - while they appreciate the hobby - they appreciate the income more. That's bad for the hobby, bad for the hobbyist and bad for us, because it will frustrate people who will come back to me and tell me I do this mainly for money, and then Dory will ask me: "why do you answer comment at all, honey?" Haha.

I am so pleased that you have addressed the concerns and doubts of the beginners. In addition, with this vlog, you had taken the wind out of the sail of those always complaining about costs. Patience is the greatest virtue of an aquarist. Planning is immensely important, even Takayuki Fukada and Felipe Oliveira mentioned that. With this tutorial, you have given me more confidence. I am not ashamed anymore about how long does it take to get as close to my scape idea as I can. And yes, as a disabled person, I will stay in the beautiful world of aquascaping.

Very informative video, I guess I am little Weird because before I set up my first Tank I spent almost a year researching planted tanks, and gathering gear. Also I am not afraid of CO2 on my 2 tanks I use 2 20lbs CO2 cylinders that I get refilled at the welding supply shop for 25 USD. Still haven't got either tank set up because I am still waiting on few things and some time off to do them.. But given the cost of hobbies and this one of my four hobbies is the cheapest I find research and patience are key too success and not being afraid to fail and more importantly too learn form those failures.

Wow. What a great topic! The one thing I fight here in the States is being able to get all the plants I need at the same time. Hygrophila Pinnatifida has been out at multiple huge places for weeks. When planning a tank I find that I need a separate plant holding/waiting tank to collect my different plants since we don’t have a Tropica here. A local fish store got in the Hygrophila Pinnatifida for me today but I needed it 2 weeks ago. Just a thought about what some of us go through here since Scaping isnt as popular as it is in Europe.

After watching hundreds of aquascaping videos and being overwhelmed with tank, lighting, substrate, filtration, c02, fish, snails, shrimp, plant requirements, fertilizers, water chemistry, etc.there are SO many decisions, then self doubt sets in, costs add up, and I never move forward. Sadly, I still have the nano tank with blue gravel.

I was wondering if it would be possible if the difference in fertilizing soil compared to the water column could be talked about. I just would like to learn more about what are the primary compounds plants absorb through their roots compared to what they take up in there foliage, and if they are the same elements or compounds, could any aquatic plant be epiphytic with the right amount of fertilization and CO2? I am just a bit unsure on how the whole aquatic plant uptake works, I'm very used to terrestrial plants, haha. Still low on experience I suppose.

Stay humble and watch every Green Aqua materials ;) In my opinion there isn't any split on materials for beginners and for pros, so you should watch, read, study whatever is possible. You can read Barr report understanding less than 20% of it, but this 20% could be more than you need to have great planted tank. Going even further looking on how fish-keeping hobby changed across last decades shows that professionals from 40-50 years ago didn't understood what is happening in tank. Today same person that doesn't understand nitrogen cycle wouldn't be even called "amateur"... and hated in half of internet xD Learning is biggest part of this hobby. Aquascape setup is first step (easiest) and the fun starts when you are balancing your tanks and learning how to take care about the plants.
Hmm... after 20 years I returned to the hobby... I had spare CO2 canister for welding, so a started to add CO2 to the tank. I never was plant person, either aquatic or terrestrial - total beginner. Some mistakes done, but results are... 100% worth the effort required on start.Tank is more stable also established quicker. I had less algae and better plant growth. So don't be afraid to try it yourself.

Well, imagine it like switching from a regular car to a race-car. If you break in the bends, the car will start sliding. Any mistake you make will get back on you faster and bigger. You have three spouts: light, fertilizer and CO2. The balance between these “spouts” is how you will get rid of algae. Too much light and no ferts/CO2, the plants starve and wither. Too much CO2, low ferts, you will not have strong plants. Too much fertilizer and low light/CO2, algae bloom. Keep CO2 at 30ppm, light strong enough, but not too strong, for 8h, and little ferts in the beginning (after plants establish strongly, increase it). You can do it!

Snails appear when problems come with the tanks, you can catch them with a snail catcher from Dennerle or just wait until their numbers is manageable. Melting plants can be a natural process but it can be because of nutrient, temperature or other problems. Check out our tutorials please. There is a playlist.
