Good info but, honestly, i was expecting a bit more. If the video is meant for beginners you could have explained what products do you use on the exposition tanks, the mL, the frequency and why did you chose the ones you use. I know you guys use mainly ADA mineral and brighty K + excel daily but you havent explain where is the N and P coming from. Just fish waste (N) and fish food (P) in addition to the soil nutrition?.... and how much should one use per L and how to adjust it. what parameters to look for, for example what leads you to decide that extra iron is needed..... When you supplement iron or, for example, phosphates (to fight Green spot), how much are you adding per L, how often and for how long... the answer to these questions were the kind of info i was expecting... On a more advance level, what do you guys fell about PPS-pro and EI, etc... why you dont like those systems and prefer to use what you use. You could have explained why you limit N in the tank (to get the best red colours out plants? and limit growth and, therefore, tank maintenance?). Also, by not supplementing extra N, how do you reach the 20/30ppm you were mentioning, since all tanks have different plant mass and fish stock and will produce/consume different levels of N. How do you keep it steady at that level... maybe these questions would grant a part 2 video on this topic..😉Anyway, great video as always.

I got a lot of new knowledge from this channel. Don't stop creating quality content like this Green Aqua! I always wait for the latest video every week
If you are doing a 50% water change every week without dosing, your nitrates will possibly hit 0ppm. Which is bad for plants. Your plants are always absorbing nitrates and if you don't replenish them. Your plants will suffer. The 50% water change is meant to keep those nitrates from getting to high. ✌🙂🙏
Yes, thanks for your help and answering the question. I would also add that ADA ferts do not have any nitrates of phosphates so the ones that you get from the tank itself will be enough with that dosing regime - between the two mandatory water changes.
I was just looking for a video about TDS for planted tanks, and as always. Green Aqua did not disappoint. Now need to find a way to increase my TDS from 70 to 120.
I know this was done about a year ago but so much good information. I also watched the master class and it was great. I'm new to planted tanks and aquascaping. I am actually doing my first real planted tank in a 215 gallon tank. I wish I'd found your videos before I started. I haven't made all the novice mistakes but I've made a few. However, we are happy with it so that's really what counts. I'm so anxious for the plants to start growing in and filling out the tank more. Looking forward to more of your vidoes.
Welcome to the channel, glad you like what we do, and especially glad that you think the most important thing is to like your own creation, with the mistakes and all. That's my way of thinking too. Also, you'll be better and better with every new scape you make. Cheers!
I was thinking about getting into this hobby , but there is so much maintenance and supplies needed. The list is end less. Co2 tanks, wow. I have much to learn before I venture into this hobby. Love the videos.
Yeah, but once you have all the right technology it's a no brainer really. You'll be able to concentrate on the setups. It is a cool hobby, not much info is needed to have algae-free tanks.
Yes, expected any minute. Thanks for your support! You're far away but very close, the 100k giveaway might bring us closer, make sure you list yourself. 💡Details tomorrow in the video.
Lovely video explaining everything! For new hobbyists like me, this channel is just wonderful! I’m currently following your water change regime for a new aquascape! But, I’m having cloudy water due to bacterial bloom on day 2... should I continue waterchanging every day for this week?(no co2.)
I've kept fish for a while but never really been fixated on plants until I subscribed to your channel a while back. I'm now looking into co2 ferts etc etc and it's going to take a long time and lots of money to get to a stage where I can really start the process. I wish I could pick anything I need from a shop in one go lol! Thanks for the info again, good work guys!
I think it's a wise idea to collect stuff slowly, that's what I would also do... Yeah, the CO2 and the proper gear makes a big difference, I'm sure your tank will be a lot more beautiful after the improvements!
@@GreenAquaShop I'm excited to build it all up and have a real go at it! I currently have a juwel tank that comes with white led bulbs. Would you suggest trying to get new lights in total or would that be OK to start off?
I think for a covered tank like Juwel you'll just be better of using what you have. If you're more serious you'll probably want to change that tank too, and you can change the lights together with that.
been dosing DIY CO2 for close to 4 months but only had pearling once 😢😢. It never came back, most plants melted and lost about 8 cups of ground cover expensive plants which made me give up. Yesterday i then watched a video about inline reactor and better ways to dissolve CO2. I then moved my co2 today and put it right under the powerhead outlet, i can SAY IT WAS A SUCCESS coming back to my tank from work with all plants pearling like nobody's business . With the roots tabs i put in and liquid fert i dose hahaha i believe i am going to make a jungle
Tack Balazs, för en lärorik youtube-video! :D Always nice to get another perspective on these topics. Hope to see you in the shop next week ^^ Take care!
The reactor is always the best solution if you have a big tank and a strong filter underneath that can afford loosing some flow due to hooking that stuff onto the pressure side... You have 100% dissolve rate (save CO2), you have no bubbles visible in the tank to obstruct the view, and you have no tech in the tank.
Some fertilisers recommend dosing daily whilst others recommend a large weekly dose following a water change. Which method is better? Right now i fertilise daily in the belief a steady flow of daily nutrients is better. Thanks for the informative video! Love your work at Green Aqua.
I think dosing daily is a better idea, easier not to forget, steady levels, etc. With ferts like ADA for example, that are not very strong it would be a mistake to dose weekly. Thanks for your comment, it's great!
I've watched a few CO2 videos, and you are the first I've seen to mention the washer in the regulator! CO2 regulators are different than Argon or 75/25 mixes mostly sold at welding supply stores. They should give out the washer for free.
Feeling more than welcomed to this beautiful world of aquascaping thanks to your shared experiences in these excellent and fun videos! If I ever find myself in Europe, visiting Green Aqua will be a priority!
Hi @greenaqua. I setup a new 125L tank. However as i asked in some of my other comments in some of your othwr videos, i used seeds to start. Also i used fire extinguisher for my CO2. However, here is how i started- Substrate: Power Sand Basic, Amazonia ver2, Amazonia powder Used seeds, dry start method, by day 7 had a nice carpet, then used lava rocks and drift wood along with JBL white sand to create path in the front to the center back. Here are the problems, after filling with water, ammonia is at its highest. Im using tap water. However, my tap water does not have chlorine. TDS of my tap water is about 114. Its been 3 weeks and ive noticed white algae on the drift would, cloudy water, and the carpet plants beginning to go dark green and kind of melt. Ammonia is still very high and so are the nitrates and nitrites. Im dosing secham stability every day as prescribed on the bottle. What could be wrong? CO2 levels seem fine. Im also dosing secham - trace, flourish excel, and iron. Ph is around 6 - 6.5. ua-cam.com/video/WBwqWDUrcuQ/v-deo.html
Holistic view my friend, holistic view. I told you in one of the previous videos, that you can send a novel to me and I still won't be able to answer your question. Here are some questions for you, but note that I'm still not going to be able to answer you. What is the water temperature? What is your filtration? Even though it has no chlorine and it is of a good TDS, your water seems to contain a lot of Nitrate. Your ph is too low. How much water you change? What is your lighting? Are you sure the CO2 levels are fine? Anyways you might answer these, but I won't be able to help too much, just start you in the right direction. Again: look at what you don't have, not at what you have. Cheers.
Thank you very much for this fantastic video. Very useful. There is only one topic that i do not understand. Usually we learn that KH is very important for its relationship with PH stability and the general rule is not to go below 3°. I do not understand how you manage this topic only by adding a GH plus. How do you take under control the Ph instability without adding any KH corrector? Thank you very much for your feedback.
Well Lorenzo, the key is not to think about it, and not to measure KH. Haha. On a more serious not, I think the RO water is buffered by the GH salts we add to it, so the KH is stabile enough.
@@GreenAquaShop thank you for you answer, but i suppose that KH should be 0 inside your RO water, isn't it? Sorry to bust you with my questions but i like to understand well the topics. :-)
Well, as I have never (really, never!) measured KH in any tanks or in the RO barrel, I have no idea. I stopped thinking scientifically about the hobby. Well, not really, but as far as water quality goes, as long as I don't have problems (algae, fish or shrimp health problems) I don't contemplate on it.
Your videos are truly awesome for a beginner. On TDS, my scape has a TDS of 230 - how do I bring it down to 120 besides water change (tap water). Any guidance you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks
Thanks! Well, the time did not permit us to be very scientific and technical, we tried to only talk about the topics and our everyday experience with that.
Always returning to these tutorials and its still helpful. I just purchased an Eheim Co2 400 system kit and I am about to install it. Its kinda easy, but I would like to know the bubbles starting point. My tank is 54L whole and heavily planted with easy and medium plants + red ones. Thank you in advance!
Well, all tanks are different, the drop checker color and your experience will have to say the final word. As a rule of thumb for that size I would go between 30-60 bubbles per minute for starters.
Perfect information, I've been struggling with an aquarium for 1 year, will be taking all this information into developing a better aquarium set up. Thank you.
Oh, that's great, good luck with the tank, and remember, do not think about ferts, just dose regulary from good quality ferts and do the 50% weekly water changes, and you'll be fine.
Thanks Balazs ! Your insight is greatly appreciated. It was interesting to see a different view on testing and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). My biochemistry and molecular biology roots may have led me astray as I was counseled to do, watch, and record the numbers religiously. in addition, TDS said to be only for "trends" as it was a "combined value." There are constraints in associating with "techies" with aquariums. :) Your articulate and concise vlog put the topic in perspective. Thanks for making aquaspaping approachable for us new to the field, Jim
Thanks for your kind comment Jim, happy that you found something to connect to in the video. Yeah, we use science, not thinking about it too much on a daily basis.
@@GreenAquaShop and the flow of the Eheim 2080 is just the half because of 2 outflows right? Is the Aqua Medic CO2 Reactor working on 1 outflow of the Eheim 2080?
I would never use that EX1200 filter under a 90p, with or without hooking additional gear onto it... :) I would use a 2080 as you mentioned. Its flow is measured at the output. It will provide the proper flow regardless of using 1 or 2 inflows. You can actually never use one inflow and the filter would work the same way. Checked this with the lead Eheim engineer.
Unless you have a UV stereliser on your RO System never drink RO water as it no longer contains chlorine, therefore you run the risk of getting legionnaires disease from that lovely room temperature unsterelised RO water. Great channel!
It's interesting that various high level aquascapers give conflicting advice in regards to CO2 timing. Most often I have heard start 1 hour prior to lights on but here you say 2 hours and I have even heard in an ada tutorial they said to start at the same time as lights on so it's hard to know what is most accurate. Maybe the key is just to be consistent with it.
Well, CO2 levels need time to reach the proper levels for photosynthesis. When the light comes on, plants will immediately need it, so the biology says you should start the injection earlier.
Great video! Loved it, you guys should make more like this, yes there are other vids on this but none explain it better :). Also I love the end skits where Balazs walks past the camera or waves through a tank, keep up the good work! You guys are only making me more exited to one day come to green aqua :), every video that you guys make just makes me love the hobby more and feel more proud to be apart of this community!
GH is below 150 is ok, but more important is KH in water, because if KH is not stable your entire system will fluctuate, your KH should be 1 to 3 degree, not above that this is range for advance planted tank. If your KH not stable your PH will fluctuat dramatically. And that's the reason plants melts more offen.
Constantly looking for a good check valve I've resorted to taking the diffuser out everyday, even when it dont backsiphon completely it still allows diffuser to fill with water an it takes forever to push that water out with the pressure from the co2 cylinder.
I've only had a low tech aquarium. Will adding co2 and fertiliser further inhibit algae while promoting growth? I mean how's algae control in low tech vs high tech?
its always a gamble with ammonia, light intensity and nutrient levels. The principles are the same wether is a low tech or high tech. you should always aim for great plant health and proper tank maintenance. the major problem with algae come from, too high light plus high ammonia, low nutrition (it can be the lack of any of the macro or micro nutrients) which will hinder proper plant growth and favour algae, low CO2 levels in plants that require them, low flow, improper tank and filter maintenance... CO2 will always help plants provided you have enough light and other macros/micros that plants need. So, even in low tech, you can add nutrition (maybe once per week or so) just to make sure your plants grow well. Then you should find out which type of algae issue you have so that it will give you a cue to what is wrong in the system. Different types of algae come from different issues on the tank.
Yes, it's definitely what H. Alves says, thanks mate for the answer! Spot on. Another thing is that CO2 and nutrients really go together, if you change something, you should change the other one as well. CO2 promotes growth, so you should increase the nutrient dosage with that too. Also, do not forget, that more nutrients will also profit the algae at the first stage, so do not be afraid to see some algae bloom. You've addressed the root cause (deficiency), so it will need to go away if all else is fine.
@@HAlves-ip9cn Thanks for your response guys! I guess it's time to try co2 injection. I was thinking about getting a 60p as an upgrade from my old Fuval Edge 23L. This thing is a struggle to maintain with it's closed top, plus I think the aquasoil is breaking down (around 5 years running)
I tend for NO3 5ppm and 0,25ppm of PO4 on my tank. Trying to get some reds on the Rotalas but nothing 😅. Using Aquarebel Nitrate and Aquarebel Phosphate on a 200L tank (120L of water). Dosing 12ml each once a week. Potassium 3 times a week 5ppm
I'm running on a Twinstar 900e :)... I guess it's not enough for a 50cm depth tank. 11 hours a day. Don't know if the new twinstar models would make a difference.
Amazing Video, as usual! I use seachem advanced+trace+iron to fertilize my tank, and it appears that there is no nitrates in that mix. I wonder if this could be a problem for the plant growth? My nitrates level is, as expected, 0 in my tank. Sometimes my plants look not as red/green as they should be, and I wonder if this nitrate issue couldn't be the source of the problem... Thanks!
Hello. I experimented with a diy cansister and put the heater inside the tupperware like the oase canisters. My question is, does the heat radiation produced by the heater affect the bacterial colony when it is 2cm away?

I can watch this video a hundred times and still won’t get tired of it! 😁and your shop it’s amazing! A haven for any aquarist! I just have a question do plants 🌱 have a Water parameters? Like for example tropical fish prefer more on the warm water but how about plants? Do they prefer a warmer water temperature or is it best for for them to have a cold water? Thanks for this knowledge you are sharing with us 🙏🏻🥂👌🏻
Oh, I'm not very good with knowing the ideal temperature for the different fish, but our colleague Lóri definitely would. And yes, there are plants that tolerate warmer water, we even have a category for that on our website under the plants section, check it out. And there are some that do not tolerate higher temps, all details we know of them is usually listed in their description.
You're welcome Little Bobby! You're not exactly the target audience for this one, as it's a tutorial for beginners, but thanks for watching nonetheless.
You are great, a great help to us beginners. I have a question. How much is the pressure at the outlet of the reducer? I have the same one so I don't know how much to set. Thanks in advance.
Not if you don't see problems (filter bacteria will suffer below ph 6.4). TSD corresponds to GH, and KH is kinda "part" of GH so no need to test these two separately.
Oh cool, it means a lot coming from you guys. Was a bit afraid at the beginning, the topic seemed a bit dry but somehow managed to make it more colorful with editing... 😉
Just got my ADA Pollen 30 mm today. Have ordered check valve (I think it's called Ruby?), drop checker and beetle counter. My tank has been living without CO2 since it started 5 months ago, I thought I'd try the CO2 out. Will get the CO2 canister, pressure reducer and solenoid when all the glass comes.
You'll see how much better it will be! And you'll afford to light it a lot more, you'll have a vibrant underwater clean world, you'll love it! CO2 makes the difference!
@@GreenAquaShop Yeah I have heard my light may be too strong for a non-CO2 tank, hence I do get some brown like algae and this neon green hair algae here and there. Over all, I got the CO2 just to try it out and the fancy glasswork along with it to make it a good display for my home. Especially with the fine bubbles of CO2 forming a sort of mist within the tank.
@@GreenAquaShop its a pleasure , I have a question about water parameter's. I am using RO water but not using anything to for the GH or KH , I've Seiryu stone in my aquascape. can one not just add Seachem Trace to remineralise the water?

I am actually doing my first real planted tank in a 215 gallon tank. I wish I'd found your videos before I started. I haven't made all the novice mistakes but I've made a few. However, we are happy with it so that's really what counts. I'm so anxious for the plants to start growing in and filling out the tank more. Looking forward to more of your vidoes.
Welcome to the channel, glad you like what we do, and especially glad that you think the most important thing is to like your own creation, with the mistakes and all. That's my way of thinking too. Also, you'll be better and better with every new scape you make. Cheers!
I started my new Scape with the Tropica 90 Days Programm and the Tropica App. Now I am in week 4 and... it works. Good for Beginners too.
Yes, Tropica definitely know what they're doing. Great company, great brand.
You guys are so close to 100,000 subscribers!Keep up the good work!Salute from North Borneo Island.🐠
Yes, expected any minute. Thanks for your support! You're far away but very close, the 100k giveaway might bring us closer, make sure you list yourself. 💡Details tomorrow in the video.
Really good learning material! Should be the first thing to watch for beginners, clears up a lot of things!
Thanks a lot, glad you found it useful! 🙏🏻👍🏻I think that the first thing would be filtration though.
@@GreenAquaShop yeah I'm looking onto changing the tank also thinking it's not the best option to keep the juwel
Juwel is good, but it is very entry-level.
been dosing DIY CO2 for close to 4 months but only had pearling once 😢😢.
Always nice to get another perspective on these topics. Hope to see you in the shop next week ^^
Take care!
Du är väldigt välkommen! 😉 Yess, looking forward to have you here mate! 😎
*Tons of great information. I thought I had completed my CO2 research and was ready to purchase but I had no idea about a reactor.
@@GreenAquaShop yes thanks you
Some fertilisers recommend dosing daily whilst others recommend a large weekly dose following a water change.
Looking forward to have you over - should you be around. Until then - stay Tubed!
Hi @greenaqua. I setup a new 125L tank. However as i asked in some of my other comments in some of your othwr videos, i used seeds to start. Also i used fire extinguisher for my CO2. However, here is how i started-
Substrate: Power Sand Basic, Amazonia ver2, Amazonia powder
Used seeds, dry start method, by day 7 had a nice carpet, then used lava rocks and drift wood along with JBL white sand to create path in the front to the center back.

Cheers.
Man i love your store very complete in equipment and clean in everyway
Yeah, it is very important for us to have a clean shop. Glad you noticed, thanks for the kind comment. Cheers!
WONDERFUL INFORMATION, ARE A MASTERS OF AQUASCAPING
Thanks so much Marcelo, really happy you like our tutorials! 😎
Your videos are truly awesome for a beginner. On TDS, my scape has a TDS of 230 - how do I bring it down to 120 besides water change (tap water). Any guidance you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks
I believe RO water will bring down TDS. Can even use distilled water.
you are an excellent teacher, one video of yours clears the whole concept. Thank you so much and amazing gallery.
Thanks so much for this nice feedback! 🙏🏻👍🏻
The most complete guide video..i really enjoy your video..
Thanks! Glad you found this useful.
As always quality information. Thank you 👏👏👏👏👏👏
You're welcome, thanks for watching and glad you found it useful. 👍🏻
Great video guys , not too technical but gets the point across very well!
@@GreenAquaShop Thank you very much for your advice!
@@GreenAquaShop using seachem flourish, about 1 cap every week, after a water change.
That's not a lot.😉

Thanks Balazs ! Your insight is greatly appreciated.
It was interesting to see a different view on testing and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). My biochemistry and molecular biology roots may have led me astray as I was counseled to do, watch, and record the numbers religiously. in addition, TDS said to be only for "trends" as it was a "combined value." There are constraints in associating with "techies" with aquariums. :)
Your articulate and concise vlog put the topic in perspective.
Thanks for making aquaspaping approachable for us new to the field,
Jim
Thanks for your kind comment Jim, happy that you found something to connect to in the video. Yeah, we use science, not thinking about it too much on a daily basis.
Best aqua videos ever!

Is a Tetra EX 1200 Plus external Filter enough for the Aqua Medic CO2 Reactor or should I buy a Eheim 2080 for my 90P?
It should be, yes, but the success also depends on what is the size of the tank you want to use it with.
@@GreenAquaShop the Tank is a 90P😃✌🏻
@@GreenAquaShop is a Tetra Ex 1200 enough for a 90P and the Aqua Medic CO2 Reactor?
Good to know, thanks!
So great from you to say that, and we're really looking forward to have you here one day. Thanks for your support!
Hi I am sorry I don't understand would tell me what's best level gh for plants aquarium or it need to make a decision based on tds thank you
GH is below 150 is ok, but more important is KH in water, because if KH is not stable your entire system will fluctuate, your KH should be 1 to 3 degree, not above that this is range for advance planted tank.

ADA Check valves work great for us.
Is it possible to attach a needle valve to a Neo Co2 bottle? Ive only seen it being used on pressurized systems. Thanks

You have a great store guys!
Thanks so much, looking forward to have you over if you happen to be around. Cheers.
You'll definitely be better off with the 60P size. Good luck with that, you'll enjoy it a lot more!
It must be your light then. Get a pro Twinstar or an ADA, or an ONF. I'll do a light tutorial soon, and this topic will definitely be covered.
I'm running on a Twinstar 900e :)... I guess it's not enough for a 50cm depth tank. 11 hours a day. Don't know if the new twinstar models would make a difference.
Yeah, E is not very strong... S is a lot stronger.
Will need an upgrade for better colors then 😉
@@GreenAquaShop By the way, do you think a second 900e would make a big difference? Or just an overkill?

Well do, CH is nice, been there this summer. 😎Thx for watching.

Perfect super clear regarding GH/Kh etc... How about the PH? do we need to test this even with a TDS of (120=GH3)
Not if you don't see problems (filter bacteria will suffer below ph 6.4). TSD corresponds to GH, and KH is kinda "part" of GH so no need to test these two separately.
Hello! Regarding the co2 administration, is it better to use a ph controller or to count the bubbles? Thanks for your answer. Bye
