Good info but, honestly, i was expecting a bit more. If the video is meant for beginners you could have explained what products do you use on the exposition tanks, the mL, the frequency and why did you chose the ones you use. I know you guys use mainly ADA mineral and brighty K + excel daily but you havent explain where is the N and P coming from. Just fish waste (N) and fish food (P) in addition to the soil nutrition?.... and how much should one use per L and how to adjust it. what parameters to look for, for example what leads you to decide that extra iron is needed..... When you supplement iron or, for example, phosphates (to fight Green spot), how much are you adding per L, how often and for how long... the answer to these questions were the kind of info i was expecting... On a more advance level, what do you guys fell about PPS-pro and EI, etc... why you dont like those systems and prefer to use what you use. You could have explained why you limit N in the tank (to get the best red colours out plants? and limit growth and, therefore, tank maintenance?). Also, by not supplementing extra N, how do you reach the 20/30ppm you were mentioning, since all tanks have different plant mass and fish stock and will produce/consume different levels of N. How do you keep it steady at that level... maybe these questions would grant a part 2 video on this topic..😉Anyway, great video as always.

Yeah, but once you have all the right technology it's a no brainer really. You'll be able to concentrate on the setups. It is a cool hobby, not much info is needed to have algae-free tanks.
I've kept fish for a while but never really been fixated on plants until I subscribed to your channel a while back. I'm now looking into co2 ferts etc etc and it's going to take a long time and lots of money to get to a stage where I can really start the process. I wish I could pick anything I need from a shop in one go lol! Thanks for the info again, good work guys!
I think it's a wise idea to collect stuff slowly, that's what I would also do... Yeah, the CO2 and the proper gear makes a big difference, I'm sure your tank will be a lot more beautiful after the improvements!
@@GreenAquaShop I'm excited to build it all up and have a real go at it! I currently have a juwel tank that comes with white led bulbs. Would you suggest trying to get new lights in total or would that be OK to start off?
I think for a covered tank like Juwel you'll just be better of using what you have. If you're more serious you'll probably want to change that tank too, and you can change the lights together with that.
If you are doing a 50% water change every week without dosing, your nitrates will possibly hit 0ppm. Which is bad for plants. Your plants are always absorbing nitrates and if you don't replenish them. Your plants will suffer. The 50% water change is meant to keep those nitrates from getting to high. ✌🙂🙏
Yes, thanks for your help and answering the question. I would also add that ADA ferts do not have any nitrates of phosphates so the ones that you get from the tank itself will be enough with that dosing regime - between the two mandatory water changes.
I got a lot of new knowledge from this channel. Don't stop creating quality content like this Green Aqua! I always wait for the latest video every week
I've watched a few CO2 videos, and you are the first I've seen to mention the washer in the regulator! CO2 regulators are different than Argon or 75/25 mixes mostly sold at welding supply stores. They should give out the washer for free.
At 13:21, you talked about "remineralizing" the water when using an RO solution. From that, I have two questions: 1) What does that mean exactly? If we don't have access to the GH plus product, what is the alternative from SeaChem, ADA, etc? 2) What should we do if we don't have an RO system? Is using SeaChem Prime only enough to treat tap water? Thanks for your videos, they're amazing~
Seachem has a good product for that, I don't remember the name though, I'm at home in bed, tired to look for it. :) You'll find it. Seachem Prime is enough to treat tap water but if the water has nitrates or it is too hard, you might have problems. Cheers.
It's interesting that various high level aquascapers give conflicting advice in regards to CO2 timing. Most often I have heard start 1 hour prior to lights on but here you say 2 hours and I have even heard in an ada tutorial they said to start at the same time as lights on so it's hard to know what is most accurate. Maybe the key is just to be consistent with it.
Well, CO2 levels need time to reach the proper levels for photosynthesis. When the light comes on, plants will immediately need it, so the biology says you should start the injection earlier.
Feeling more than welcomed to this beautiful world of aquascaping thanks to your shared experiences in these excellent and fun videos! If I ever find myself in Europe, visiting Green Aqua will be a priority!
Yes, expected any minute. Thanks for your support! You're far away but very close, the 100k giveaway might bring us closer, make sure you list yourself. 💡Details tomorrow in the video.
Some fertilisers recommend dosing daily whilst others recommend a large weekly dose following a water change. Which method is better? Right now i fertilise daily in the belief a steady flow of daily nutrients is better. Thanks for the informative video! Love your work at Green Aqua.
I think dosing daily is a better idea, easier not to forget, steady levels, etc. With ferts like ADA for example, that are not very strong it would be a mistake to dose weekly. Thanks for your comment, it's great!
Thanks Balazs ! Your insight is greatly appreciated. It was interesting to see a different view on testing and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). My biochemistry and molecular biology roots may have led me astray as I was counseled to do, watch, and record the numbers religiously. in addition, TDS said to be only for "trends" as it was a "combined value." There are constraints in associating with "techies" with aquariums. :) Your articulate and concise vlog put the topic in perspective. Thanks for making aquaspaping approachable for us new to the field, Jim
Thanks for your kind comment Jim, happy that you found something to connect to in the video. Yeah, we use science, not thinking about it too much on a daily basis.
Thanks! Well, the time did not permit us to be very scientific and technical, we tried to only talk about the topics and our everyday experience with that.
Perfect information, I've been struggling with an aquarium for 1 year, will be taking all this information into developing a better aquarium set up. Thank you.
Oh, that's great, good luck with the tank, and remember, do not think about ferts, just dose regulary from good quality ferts and do the 50% weekly water changes, and you'll be fine.
The reactor is always the best solution if you have a big tank and a strong filter underneath that can afford loosing some flow due to hooking that stuff onto the pressure side... You have 100% dissolve rate (save CO2), you have no bubbles visible in the tank to obstruct the view, and you have no tech in the tank.
Unless you have a UV stereliser on your RO System never drink RO water as it no longer contains chlorine, therefore you run the risk of getting legionnaires disease from that lovely room temperature unsterelised RO water. Great channel!
Lovely video explaining everything! For new hobbyists like me, this channel is just wonderful! I’m currently following your water change regime for a new aquascape! But, I’m having cloudy water due to bacterial bloom on day 2... should I continue waterchanging every day for this week?(no co2.)
Hi @greenaqua. I setup a new 125L tank. However as i asked in some of my other comments in some of your othwr videos, i used seeds to start. Also i used fire extinguisher for my CO2. However, here is how i started- Substrate: Power Sand Basic, Amazonia ver2, Amazonia powder Used seeds, dry start method, by day 7 had a nice carpet, then used lava rocks and drift wood along with JBL white sand to create path in the front to the center back. Here are the problems, after filling with water, ammonia is at its highest. Im using tap water. However, my tap water does not have chlorine. TDS of my tap water is about 114. Its been 3 weeks and ive noticed white algae on the drift would, cloudy water, and the carpet plants beginning to go dark green and kind of melt. Ammonia is still very high and so are the nitrates and nitrites. Im dosing secham stability every day as prescribed on the bottle. What could be wrong? CO2 levels seem fine. Im also dosing secham - trace, flourish excel, and iron. Ph is around 6 - 6.5. ua-cam.com/video/WBwqWDUrcuQ/v-deo.html
Holistic view my friend, holistic view. I told you in one of the previous videos, that you can send a novel to me and I still won't be able to answer your question. Here are some questions for you, but note that I'm still not going to be able to answer you. What is the water temperature? What is your filtration? Even though it has no chlorine and it is of a good TDS, your water seems to contain a lot of Nitrate. Your ph is too low. How much water you change? What is your lighting? Are you sure the CO2 levels are fine? Anyways you might answer these, but I won't be able to help too much, just start you in the right direction. Again: look at what you don't have, not at what you have. Cheers.
Oh cool, it means a lot coming from you guys. Was a bit afraid at the beginning, the topic seemed a bit dry but somehow managed to make it more colorful with editing... 😉
Excellent guide, they are the best, have not thought about putting subtitles in Spanish? I think there must be many people in Latin America who see them and not all speak English fluently, it would be very good! Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
I can watch this video a hundred times and still won’t get tired of it! 😁and your shop it’s amazing! A haven for any aquarist! I just have a question do plants 🌱 have a Water parameters? Like for example tropical fish prefer more on the warm water but how about plants? Do they prefer a warmer water temperature or is it best for for them to have a cold water? Thanks for this knowledge you are sharing with us 🙏🏻🥂👌🏻
Oh, I'm not very good with knowing the ideal temperature for the different fish, but our colleague Lóri definitely would. And yes, there are plants that tolerate warmer water, we even have a category for that on our website under the plants section, check it out. And there are some that do not tolerate higher temps, all details we know of them is usually listed in their description.
Thanks Sam, glad you liked this tutorial, thanks for following us! We read and answer all comments (at least for now😉) so please feel free to post under any video that you questions or comments about.
@@GreenAquaShop its a pleasure , I have a question about water parameter's. I am using RO water but not using anything to for the GH or KH , I've Seiryu stone in my aquascape. can one not just add Seachem Trace to remineralise the water?
Always returning to these tutorials and its still helpful. I just purchased an Eheim Co2 400 system kit and I am about to install it. Its kinda easy, but I would like to know the bubbles starting point. My tank is 54L whole and heavily planted with easy and medium plants + red ones. Thank you in advance!
Well, all tanks are different, the drop checker color and your experience will have to say the final word. As a rule of thumb for that size I would go between 30-60 bubbles per minute for starters.
Great video! Loved it, you guys should make more like this, yes there are other vids on this but none explain it better :). Also I love the end skits where Balazs walks past the camera or waves through a tank, keep up the good work! You guys are only making me more exited to one day come to green aqua :), every video that you guys make just makes me love the hobby more and feel more proud to be apart of this community!
In order to get 30ppm of CO2 with kH 1, your pH can get as low as 6. So a lime green drop checker with kh 1 means that you have less than 30ppm of CO2, right? Could you please clarify how are you able to control the CO2 levels using such a low kH? Great video by the way, wish you could upload every day 😁
this is an old video but its very useful for me. Balazs, you are doing a great job. thank you for all, ıf you come here (Turkey) ı wanna meet with you :)
Tack Balazs, för en lärorik youtube-video! :D Always nice to get another perspective on these topics. Hope to see you in the shop next week ^^ Take care!
With the climate here in Malaysia it is really hard to get the temp low. My tank is running at 28 - 29 deg C. Need a chiller but they are expensive. It will be great if i could get 26 deg c. Btw my tank is looking fine n im happy about it. Probably it will get better if i can get the temp lower. Btw, the video is just great!
Thank you very much for this fantastic video. Very useful. There is only one topic that i do not understand. Usually we learn that KH is very important for its relationship with PH stability and the general rule is not to go below 3°. I do not understand how you manage this topic only by adding a GH plus. How do you take under control the Ph instability without adding any KH corrector? Thank you very much for your feedback.
Well Lorenzo, the key is not to think about it, and not to measure KH. Haha. On a more serious not, I think the RO water is buffered by the GH salts we add to it, so the KH is stabile enough.
@@GreenAquaShop thank you for you answer, but i suppose that KH should be 0 inside your RO water, isn't it? Sorry to bust you with my questions but i like to understand well the topics. :-)
Well, as I have never (really, never!) measured KH in any tanks or in the RO barrel, I have no idea. I stopped thinking scientifically about the hobby. Well, not really, but as far as water quality goes, as long as I don't have problems (algae, fish or shrimp health problems) I don't contemplate on it.
Your videos are truly awesome for a beginner. On TDS, my scape has a TDS of 230 - how do I bring it down to 120 besides water change (tap water). Any guidance you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks
Great video guys. I am waiting for the video about the initial steps with a new aquarium. How many water changes, do I need Purigen, how to avoid alge... 😉
Green Aqua yes, I did already watch it but I still don’t know what are the schedules of water changes, when to start fertilization.... what else to take care at the beginning... But I will research about it. Thanks!
Ferts on day 1. Water changes: daily for the first week, every other day for the second week, two times on the third, and weekly from the fourth. All 50% changes.
Green Aqua thank you very much! I will be using the Seachen Flourish fertilizers. I am bullying a low light aquarium. Should I reduce the doses of fertilizers that Seachen recommends on their daily table? Thanks!!!
You are great, a great help to us beginners. I have a question. How much is the pressure at the outlet of the reducer? I have the same one so I don't know how much to set. Thanks in advance.
Just got my ADA Pollen 30 mm today. Have ordered check valve (I think it's called Ruby?), drop checker and beetle counter. My tank has been living without CO2 since it started 5 months ago, I thought I'd try the CO2 out. Will get the CO2 canister, pressure reducer and solenoid when all the glass comes.
You'll see how much better it will be! And you'll afford to light it a lot more, you'll have a vibrant underwater clean world, you'll love it! CO2 makes the difference!
@@GreenAquaShop Yeah I have heard my light may be too strong for a non-CO2 tank, hence I do get some brown like algae and this neon green hair algae here and there. Over all, I got the CO2 just to try it out and the fancy glasswork along with it to make it a good display for my home. Especially with the fine bubbles of CO2 forming a sort of mist within the tank.
The bacterial bloom should stabilize with the daily 50% water changes and a good quality filter media, or with adding good quality beneficial bacteria (starter bactria) to the tank from the beginning. That should not be a problem. It can also be caused by bad quality substrate (the beneficial bacteria can not thrive in the substrate).
You're welcome Little Bobby! You're not exactly the target audience for this one, as it's a tutorial for beginners, but thanks for watching nonetheless.

Its crazy just how much you need to keep track of to have a successful healthy planted aquarium. Thank you so much for all the helpful information. So far I Have accumulated everything I need and more for this tank. Ive watched many many tutorials starting from you, to George Farmer and many from Tropica. But one question I need an answer to, are you married lol!
LOL, I am to Dory, she is featured in some videos. Thanks for the kind comment, glad you like what we do. Good luck with your tank! You don't really need to know a lot of stuff, you'll see a bit later. Cheers.
Green Aqua I haven’t yet made any videos, but tomorrow I’m going to try to get one started as I create this tank. I’ve spent a lot of time and effort on getting my hands on all the products you have recommended. It’s very hard for me in the US to get my hands on all the products from overseas. So I hope what I got will do. I think it’s time for you to come to America so we can see your work first hand! You’re amazing, again thank you for your videos! Ps, I hope your talking about the fish named dory. 😂
I'm not part of green aqua, just someone who watches their channel, bit I'll try to help. For what purpose? If it's for a drop checker you "NEED" 4DKH water, R/O or tap will not cut it. But if it's just for your tank water my advice is to test your tap water, and research your chosen fish species, you might be lucky and have "magic" tap water, but that is pretty rare. If your water parameters are less than ideal I personally would reccomend mixing R/O with tap water to get within the desired range, I'm picky, but I like to work out the ratio, this can quickly be figured out with a large measuring jug and some test strips or drops, start at 5% tap water and go from there. Or you could use a product like seachem equilibrium to remineralise the R/O, that way you dont need tap water at all. Usually I use rain water, and sometimes mixed R/O when I'm running low on rain water, but I would not recomend this if you live in an area with a lot of air polution (that includes traffic polution) as the rain will pick this up from the atmosphere and your fish will be swimming in it, not ideal.

@@GreenAquaShop yeah I'm looking onto changing the tank also thinking it's not the best option to keep the juwel
Juwel is good, but it is very entry-level.
Why should we add nitrates when nitrates are already building up in the aquarium? Thanks.

OMG YES, I NEEDED A CO2 FOR DUMMYS LIKE THIS. Been watching so much vids and confused but this made it so much more understandable.
Love to hear that 😃 👍
I got a lot of new knowledge from this channel. Don't stop creating quality content like this Green Aqua! I always wait for the latest video every week
Thanks so much, glad you find our content useful. Stay tuned, more tutorials and inspirational videos on their way...
From that, I have two questions:
1) What does that mean exactly?
Really good learning material! Should be the first thing to watch for beginners, clears up a lot of things!
Thanks a lot, glad you found it useful! 🙏🏻👍🏻I think that the first thing would be filtration though.
Feeling more than welcomed to this beautiful world of aquascaping thanks to your shared experiences in these excellent and fun videos!
If I ever find myself in Europe, visiting Green Aqua will be a priority!
Looking forward to have you over - should you be around. Until then - stay Tubed!

Your articulate and concise vlog put the topic in perspective.
Thanks for making aquaspaping approachable for us new to the field,
Jim
Thanks for your kind comment Jim, happy that you found something to connect to in the video. Yeah, we use science, not thinking about it too much on a daily basis.
The most complete guide video..i really enjoy your video..
Thanks! Glad you found this useful.
you are an excellent teacher, one video of yours clears the whole concept. Thank you so much and amazing gallery.
Thanks so much for this nice feedback! 🙏🏻👍🏻
Great video guys , not too technical but gets the point across very well!
@@GreenAquaShop using seachem flourish, about 1 cap every week, after a water change.
That's not a lot.😉

*Tons of great information. I thought I had completed my CO2 research and was ready to purchase but I had no idea about a reactor.
@@GreenAquaShop yes thanks you
Unless you have a UV stereliser on your RO System never drink RO water as it no longer contains chlorine, therefore you run the risk of getting legionnaires disease from that lovely room temperature unsterelised RO water. Great channel!
Good to know, thanks!
WONDERFUL INFORMATION, ARE A MASTERS OF AQUASCAPING
Thanks so much Marcelo, really happy you like our tutorials! 😎
After watching this video, i dropped my plans on getting a planted tank. I never thought it would be this much hard work and expensive. 😨
This was totally not my fault, before you go, please check our latest tutorial for beginners though.
"Go small..." Balasz said.
Lovely video explaining everything! For new hobbyists like me, this channel is just wonderful! I’m currently following your water change regime for a new aquascape! But, I’m having cloudy water due to bacterial bloom on day 2... should I continue waterchanging every day for this week?(no co2.)
Excellent and perfectly useful information's. Thank you guys for this informative and amazing video 👍❤
You're welcome, and thanks for sending some feedback to us.
As always quality information. Thank you 👏👏👏👏👏👏
You're welcome, thanks for watching and glad you found it useful. 👍🏻
Hi @greenaqua. I setup a new 125L tank. However as i asked in some of my other comments in some of your othwr videos, i used seeds to start. Also i used fire extinguisher for my CO2. However, here is how i started-
Substrate: Power Sand Basic, Amazonia ver2, Amazonia powder
Used seeds, dry start method, by day 7 had a nice carpet, then used lava rocks and drift wood along with JBL white sand to create path in the front to the center back.

Cheers.
Nice video guys, really good watch 😊
Oh cool, it means a lot coming from you guys. Was a bit afraid at the beginning, the topic seemed a bit dry but somehow managed to make it more colorful with editing... 😉

Thanks for this knowledge you are sharing with us 🙏🏻🥂👌🏻
Ps. I’m I correct? Do tropical fish prefer warmer water? 😅 any water parameters for rummy nose tetra please 🙏🏻 😁
Thanks a ton! Definitely would check it out, can’t wait on your next upload 🌱🐠

@@GreenAquaShop its a pleasure , I have a question about water parameter's. I am using RO water but not using anything to for the GH or KH , I've Seiryu stone in my aquascape. can one not just add Seachem Trace to remineralise the water?
Thanks for sharing Balazs. I think there was something to take away from this video for everybody, not just beginners. 👍
You're welcome John, glad you found some interesting stuff in it too... 😎
@@GreenAquaShop Thank you very much for your advice!

Excellent video, thanks for making this rich content available. This channel inspires me.
That is cool to hear, thanks for the kind comment. You're welcome.
In order to get 30ppm of CO2 with kH 1, your pH can get as low as 6. So a lime green drop checker with kh 1 means that you have less than 30ppm of CO2, right?
Could you please clarify how are you able to control the CO2 levels using such a low kH?
Great video by the way, wish you could upload every day 😁
We don't know exactly how much Co2 we have. Just enough. Haha. But really.

Mükemmel video 🙋🏻♂️ Türkçe 🇹🇷 Altyazı var teşekkürler bro 👍
Best aqua videos ever!
Thanks so much! Cheers4

Your videos are truly awesome for a beginner. On TDS, my scape has a TDS of 230 - how do I bring it down to 120 besides water change (tap water). Any guidance you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks
I believe RO water will bring down TDS. Can even use distilled water.
Great video guys. I am waiting for the video about the initial steps with a new aquarium. How many water changes, do I need Purigen, how to avoid alge... 😉
I actually touched the topic in the end part of the contest tank building mini-series, just because of your request. Check that out. 💡

2-3 bar.
Oh, that's cool, you'll see how much better everything is gonna be with that.
Please do a video about cloudy water but mostly about starting a new tank and having the bacteria that’s in the water that makes it cloudy
Thanks a lot Green Aqua....
You're great...

Hi Green Aqua, i’m new to this hobby and this review is very informative. Question, which is better to use RO water or TAP water?
