      What a beautiful place to ride ♥️ And yes, the two day out and backs in both directions and end each day at the car works so well for me and then leap frogging it to the next location to repeat. I like the bailout option in case it’s needed as well as the sleep in the car option if it’s pouring down rain. @TheBane1979

    Haha. Loved the end. Won’t spoil it for anybody who hasn’t watched yet. You definitely lucked out with traffic. Good call going on a weekday! The drone really enhanced the video, otherwise, all you see is the tunnel of trees so to speak. I think my daughter has done some road races around the Red River Gorge back when she was racing.
    Here in NE TN, a lot of my favorite riding has gotten damaged from the hurricane. Even up into SWVA, the rail trails were affected.
    During the winter, I normally go two hours south to Greenville, SC to ride. Their road racing session actually starts in February. It’s amazing the temperature difference from a two hour drive south is. Makes the winters a little more bearable.

    I had forgotten how pretty that area is, I did a backpacking trip there in 1992. There was a small cave along a dry creek bed, that the entrance was about 30" several of us went into. There was a domed area with a bunch of small bats, plus water flowing through a crevice, and the water dropped into a cylindrical hole about 8' deep where the water just disappeared into the rocks in the bottom.

    • @johnnydoe66
      @johnnydoe66 Місяць тому +1

      @TheBane1979 Wish I remembered exactly the location of it, but it was on a section of trail that parallels the creek bed. We were on our way out when we found it, and you could hear the water inside the cave where the water was falling into that hole.

    Great footage! You probably know but the Cranberry River road up from the campground is gated for 15 or so miles. We biked down from the other end once and it was great. A lot harder going the other way. LOL

    • @TheBane1979
      @TheBane1979  Місяць тому

      @@WayOffTheTrail I’m assuming we can get around the gates on bike right? I know it’s closed, I assume to motor vehicles right?

    • @WayOffTheTrail
      @WayOffTheTrail Місяць тому +1

      @TheBane1979 Yeah you can get around the gates easy on a bike, even loaded way out. We take trailers. You might meet a horse drawn wagon or two from outfitters but usually just the occasional fisherman on a bike. A lot of old guys stay in the campground all season I think. Lol

    • @WayOffTheTrail
      @WayOffTheTrail Місяць тому +1

      Technically I think you can fly a drone as long as you launch it from the other side of the river and keep it on that side as it's not in the wilderness area.

    Really nice video, with lots of high-quality drone footage of the Gorge. And thanks for the shout out. Of course, I'm very familiar with the loop that you rode, but have never actually ridden it myself as I thought I'd eventually do the Red River Ralley ride that the Bluegrass Cycling Club puts on, but have never gotten around to it. So, seeing your video serves as inspiration to go do it. What was your total mileage and elevation for the ride? Are you on Strava? And where is home for you?

    • @TheBane1979
      @TheBane1979  Місяць тому +1

      @@KentuckyCycling I’ll toss the Strava stuff up on here when I get home. It should have been around 27 miles (I ended up back tracking to get my drone I left in the car)
      Actually your gravel rides in the area is what gave me the idea lol. I just got a mtn bike and as they close those roads this year I’m gonna go bike them!
