LOL, everything about this video seems cold. I am a 62 year old bikepacker living in New York. Man, I put my bike away in October. You're out of your mind Bane but it sure is nice watching someone actually outside riding at this time of the year. I am counting the days until Spring and looking so forward to getting back on the bike again!
@@lotsoffish this is all new for me. Originally I was hiking/backpacking and I had to learn how to do it in the cold, then I discovered biking and I just can’t handle going all winter not doing it. Seasonal depression wrecks me lol
@@TheBane1979 Yea seasonal depression is real that's for sure. My biggest issue is I love the Summer so much more than the Winter. I am one of those folks who actually LOVES bugs and snakes and moths and salamanders and trees full of leaves and fields full of flowering milkweed etc. And that brings me to a suggestion. You said a couple folks asked about what you cook and food you eat when bikepacking etc. That's been done a thousand times and if you've seen one guy cook a steak on a rock why would anyone want to see it again? I would much rather have you show me the forest and the streams and any big dead trees falling down and all the stuff you are probably checking out as you ride down the trail. One of my favorite things to check out when I ride in New York in the Summer are all the turtles out getting some sun. I actually bring binoculars on all my rides just to look for turtles sunning themselves in the creeks and rivers and at the beaver dams I stop at. That's the kind of stuff I like to see in hiking/biking video's. More nature less cooking! LOL.
When you told us you were going to bring us content throughout the winter months, I wasnt expecting so much. Bike packing below 32 deg is COLD but you keep smiling and seem unphased by the extreme weather. I commuted in mid-ohio winters for years, and I can tell you, I wasnt smiling. In those temps it hurts LOL
You are a true adventurer Bane! Loved the bit about you mother 😂. It’s about time you start looking for a film crew to take along. It’s sure not easy getting that quality content, but we enjoy it for sure. Another great video!
I love how I can still hear your bike tires and sounds of water when your music is playing!! Going to be almost 70 in Bristol today should check out the green belt bike trail in Kingsport Tn it’s nice
@@timwhitaker7556 I’ll add it to my list and check it out! Some of my earlier stuff I was muting the natural sounds of things and just had the music. I appreciate the feedback!
One thing I’ve learned over the years.. When bike riding rail to trails in the winter months.. they say sunset is 5p but if your on the shade side of the mountain.. it’s colder & sunset can be 3:30p 🥶😳🤪
Enjoyed seeing the trail once again through your video. I rode the trail last summer, so seeing it through your video without tree foliage is pretty neat. Day 2 rain/sleet/snow didn’t stop you from thriving on a little type 2 fun !! Not much holds Bane back from having an adventure !!
Excellent video as usual with quality content. I had to explain type 2 fun to my wife today. I don’t know if your mom is right but I can vouch for your awesome haircut 😂
Thanks for sharing! So cool you were able to ride up to the engine maintenance station in Cass. Conditions looked much better than the trip in the snow (well- at least the first day). I appreciate you taking the time to stop and make the drone shots and such. I'd be too cold and just want to be motoring on! Fun story, between Cass and Marlinton was a guy who had a farm who would adopt/care for bear cubs who's parents had been injured/shot by hunters (well, that's not very fun, but...) The locals warned me that if I saw a bear, and it walked up to me, it was probably one of his "pets", and since it was domesticated, I just needed to "be chill". I was thankful they told me, but after riding on, I wondered how I would differentiate one of his adoptees versus a regular bear.😂😂😂 He actually had a video channel several years ago, and his grown up kids (bears) would return with their kids, walk right into his house through the front door, and start going through the pantry as he was sitting on the couch. He'd yell at the bears "That's not polite" and shush them back to the front porch where they would hang out. Well, at least you knew in Seebert the store was closed! Thanks again, Ron
Type II fun is good for the soul! Great adventure, Bane. I'll continue to follow along. You have to love that Wild Wonderful West Virginia weather. Did you see anyone else biking on the trip or only the hikers?
@@TheBane1979 That's awesome! Although probably not too surprising given the time of year and weather. A perfect time to go. BTW, loved seeing the Cass Scenic Railroad footage. One of my first Boy Scout trips was to West Virginia that included a ride up the mountain on the train. That was only about 52 years ago. 🙂
Quality content for sure! Reminds me a lot of the gated section of the Cranberry River road, but less hilly. Are all the shelters as small as the one you stayed near?
Great video! What bike are you riding? I assume it’s not an e-bike? I would definitely have to e-bike just 1/2 that distance 😂… beautiful trail. I’ll have to go check out these towns. Be safe and happy new year 🎉!
I've been thinking about protein while camping as well. When the temps are this low it should be no problem to bring along half a dozen hard boiled eggs and canned sardines. I believe it is healthier to run on proteins and healthy fats (omega 3 rather than omega6) instead of a bunch of carbs. Each to his own though.
@@wolfgangweber9924 oh no, you’re completely right. Carbs and fats are way healthier. The eggs are certainly an option. Not really a fan of sardines, maybe some tuna.
