Yeah, I noticed that, and to be fair, it IS an AOS/Fantasy kit and the upgrade sprue IS a separate item. They are just packaged together in the start collecting set. That said, putting the upgrade and the Tzaangor box as a web exclusive bundle (even at no cost change) would make sense just to prevent confusion.
The exalted sorcerer kit is phenomenal. It feels like an old school GW kit where you had a ton of options and could really customize your dudes. And because of that you get a bunch of great bits left over after you build them. Remember when GW was pro-hobby instead of treating hobbyists like poo for not wanting to build their dudes exactly like the box art?

I play the dusty boys, and while I quite like the units we have I can't help but wish we had more than five unique kits. Looking at Death Guard makes me a bit jealous. Also just kinda bitter we don't have a psyker dreadnought *still*.
Psyker Dreadnoughts, Castellax robots and Kastelan maniples, and a couple of extra unique disciplines (Corvidae, Raptora) would be great additions to the army.
The problem isn't so much as being able to make the technology for the psy-dread anymore in so much as it's actually having someone to interr inside it. Remember that there's a reason TS can't have bikers, raptors, warp talons and specially possessed anymore.

So when a sorcerer gets so damaged that a normal marine would requiere the interrment of the poor sod, the sorcerer would simmply use his PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS to heal the damage (biomancy, mutation, time manipulation) and save himself the trouble. The reason they don't interr themselves isn't so much not having the tech, it's more about them truly caring about the very few flesh and blood marines they have left, hence why they get fools from other warbands and trick them into the helbrute.

Just a huge shame for a force that has a LOT of potential thematically. The Thousand Sons aren't just "Space Wizards" the faction, but seekers of forbidden knowledge in sevice of the God who pkays hopscotch over the morality line. They used things like Legio Cybernetica robots, and other monstrosities. So there's just so much untapped potential for the range.
Yeah as a TS player I was hoping this upcoming release would have been a stand alone box like the orks got and would feature all new units so we can have our version of plagueburst crawlers and bloat drones. Maybe theyll come through but I'm really disappointed with the GK box
I feel the same way, the KSons have so much untapped potential, look at the vastly different cult leaders, both the leaders themselves and what each cult specializes and uses in battle and their sorcery. The daemon engines and warmschines that are conjured up in some stories, and the things I can picture the Infernal Master summoning to ride is downright amazing and horrific sounding. My gosh I'd love to see a new set of elites or fast attacks, def not just a sorcerer on a disc with a different head, staff, and pack, Tzeentch is the god of change and magic and sorcery, and the Thousand Sons already have a dope ass Egyptian style aesthetic, you'd think The Great Manipulator would create some interesting and powerful leaders for the Rubrics, Tzaangors, and Scarabs.

Any chaos faction has an endless supply of ideas and concepts to draw from. Along with any xenos faction. Or non-Space Marines faction. In fact, regular old Space Marines might just be the faction that needs variety the very least...
Agreed. My deathguard feels so much more fleshed out than my thousand sons. There's basically one list I can build with thousand sons, while I have so many neat choices with DG.

Funnily enough they still have more going for them than grey knights. And even if it's not much it all looks really good and new. Seriously entire GK range is two boxes "terminators and normal marines", baby carrier and HQs. Hell I got both terminators and assault squad boxes just for kitbashing and I basically own most of the range as a result.
The Exalted Sorcerer box is pretty fantastic, I think there is like 6-7 head selections. I bought it just as a kit-bashing buffet. And Tzaangors are mutated humans, not daemons. to get them in 40K you need to buy the 40K Tzaangor Upgrade Pack.
Cmon Kirioth! if there was ONE thing to say about the Thousand Sons range, its that it's a very, VERY barebone range that only contains 2 named characters, a trio of sorcerers, 2 units with a tacked on third one that is not only very out of place here and straight out of AoS but also will require you to buy INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE upgrade kits (that only comes in pack of 5) for what is supposed to be your shaft unit. SURE, the minies look good, but the range is probably the one in the most dire need of more. They need the Death Guard treatment at least, have a couple of their own daemon engines and tanks (at least some upgrade kits for tanks!), and they need a real dreadnought back to not be forced to use the very lore breaking Thousand Sons Helbrute!
IIRC Helbrutes are made from CSMs outside the Legion (lured in with a promise of power and transformed into monstrous slaves instead), but I do agree that GW should stop being a bunch of cowards and either allow for Osiron Dreads (TSons' psyker Dreads from Horus Heresy) in 40K or release a separate 40K TSons Dread mini.
Bonus to the fact that the Scarab Occult are in Tartaros: since 30k Sekhmet can be either Cataphractii or Tartaros, and the 40K ones don’t have very overtly chaos trim, the Scarab Occult work VERY nicely as Sekhmet in Tartaros.

Ah yes thousand sons, the only full blown army that has 4 unique kits :p. I joke but it's kinda sad the Exalted Sorceror, Scarab Occult Terminators, and Magnus and Ahriman are the only units actually made for Thousand Sons, with the rest of their units coming from codex Space Marines or Age of Sigmar.
Ahriman, the Rubric Marines, Scarab Terminators and the Vortex Slaughterbrute are my most favourite models. Magnus the Red is warply huge Tzeentch Daemon Primarch.
I'd love the Magnus miniature more if not for the horns on his head and chest. The chest ones just.... ew. I can tolerate the head horns a bit more (and without the chest horns I think they'd be okay) but they still make his head look derpy to me. I have to agree that Thousand Sons have some great terminators and marines. Nice enough that if I was going to make a Chaos army they'd be top contenders. Unless we got new noise marines.... Then it'd be a tough call.
the exalted sorcerer kit comes with several other options that are not shown on the site. and the backpacks can be swapped around. it's a really fun kit to put together
These guys are my first army. Iv been putting all the time into each unit, love most of the look except the tall helms. Been shaving that off and sculpting bird skulls over the headpiece. Also just adding more scrolls and books and bird skulls everywhere and it's looking great. They paint up much nicer with their chaos undivided color scheme too, so easy just basing them black and lightly edge brushing on some dry gold
1K Sons tempt me too. Maybe you could scratch your kit bashing itch by going crazy on the bases. Really put them in a narrative setting. Like the Tzeentch Daemon World in the Eye of Terror they were transported to after the fall of Prospero.
I think the reason why the tzaangor sprue does not have 40K options included without an upgrade (as everybody is pointing out apparently) all boils down to one bit: production cost. For those exclusive AoS players/collectors (even if they like 40k like I do) it's a bit odd to have distinctly 40K items in a bits pile. Vice versa for 40K exclusive players/collectors. Furthermore, for the new player who may not yet know that each game has different load outs for the same model they may assemble a tzaangor group with bolt pistols and chainswords only to find out their Disciples of Tzeentch army is down a whole unit. Vice versa also for 40K (though this take my be wrong as I am none too versed in 40K load outs). To make two separate boxes would draw complaints as players would ask "why not just kit-bash" or "can't they change the rules" leaving each Warhammer fan perhaps having to purchase a kit and bash it from one to another to varying degrees of difficulty. Ultimately, to make an extra sprue that may not be used at all or to make two of the same thing would be costly. From the 40K box frame to the art to the printing of rules sheets, etc. Lastly, thank you, @KiriothTV for making wonderful content

Best thing about Magnus is the ability to paint the armor separately. And the Tanzagors Autopistol chain swords were a downgrade sprue you could buy separately.
When creating my first ever DND Character, I was advised by my DM to either have attributes like myself, or the opposite of myself. I hate change. Therefore, using the aforementioned logic, the Thousands Sons are a strong contender for something in 40K I’d absolutely love to collect (I think they look fantastic, as well as the Tzeentch type demons and flying ooglie booglies ). That’s the justification I’d like to repeat to my wallet whenever I decide to do a new army, thank you for listening!
Thousand Sons are my favorite legion in the game. I just wish they had a few more options in their list. A sorcerer dread/brute would be a very welcome addition to the list. Havocs would also fit into the list well. A non-Ahriman generic Sorc/Lord is still missing but may have something coming soon for that. I'm also holding out hope for the Demon Prince to be redone and a proper Tzeentchy option for it. Rules wise is where this army falls apart unfortunately. The psychic phase in 40k is awful, their powers aren't great, a lot of them are still overcosted, and they still don't hold up well in a monolist. Especially a pure thousand sons and no demons list. I want to play them, but they're destined for the shelf unfortunately.
On Scarab Occult Terminators they are not chainswords, they are power weapons that happen to have fixed teeth. I would recommend spraying them gold and then painting the blue basecoat as it is far far quicker than painting all that trim!
For the face, I picked the mask but painted it like his normal face, and for the block thing in his right eye i painted it as a gem. Seems to look alright.
I always liked the metal ahriman model back in the day, but the plastic one is on another level. With the announcement that thousand sons are next after the orks codex (along with grey knights), we'll probably see a few new models I expect in the next couple of months previews. I just want them to get to emperor's children personally though.

New fully plastic noise marines would be great, especially if they did a squad like the single mini they did previously. Even if they just did the resin upgrade sprues in plastic it'd be a start though. I kinda wish sonic vehicle weapons still existed as they looked cool.
I think the explanation is that the Rubric only affected the original Legionaries. Anyone who joined TSons after the Rubric seems to not be affected by the spell and thus prone to mutations, possibly because they now recruit through arcane rituals rather than gene-seed implantation - if Ahriman designed his spell to only affect gene-seed carriers (because at that time it'd be the easiest way to define who is or isn't a Thousand Son), it'd ignore those without it, even if they technically also belong to the Legion.
I would love to see every army receive a box like the Exalted Sorceror kit. Just a box that has bits and pieces to make 2 or 3 different variations of 1 or 2 HQ options. It's one of my favourite kits in the whole game. Not a fan of the Mutalith though.
Oh wow! I love the range, I got some of my own, I think even the old Thousand Sons upgrade kit is still amazing. They always where one of my favourites, both in 40k and 30k range, that's why I have both! Is great range, and if you could be lucky enough you could add a Thousand Sons Chaos Dreadnought to your army, but now is pretty much impossible to get one, is was always a nice addition to a TS army. Models are great and lore too.
I think the exalted sorc kit would become one of your favorites if you got a chance to play around with it. There are additional unique head and staff options, as well as additional poses you can make, that aren't shown on the website.
Hooray! The best Legion. My boys in red/blue. They were the first one that I grew interested in, following a conversion showcased on ye olde GW website that had taken a Chaos Terminator and added a Tomb Kings names to the helmet. This was before they got the current Rubric marines as I recall. Love them all! Edit: Referring to the Sorcerers they are a multipart kit that can be built in many, many ways. It's a fantastic source of bitz as well as great for your Tzeentchian needs!

You can kit bash all manner of librarians from that librarian kit ...the capes can be used for commanders in charge of your company or squad ...you could make versions of the different sects they have, the stylised design will really help bring any conversions back to source...
The Thousand Sons are probably my favourite Chaos range. I bought a few for Kill Team and they're lovely models, but I am too intimidated by the amount of detail to make a start on painting them!

I love the sons, but army wise we lack a lot that other factions have tons of are heavys units. As we have NONE that are unique to us. We also have only 2 named heros when others have tons.
They must have cane out with the start collecting and combat patrol boxes right after you did this video bc yeah Tzaangors are as big unit included in every single Thousand Sons box nowadays that GW comes out with and alot of people make a joke that GW has million of them in surplus. LoL
I have to agree with you with the range being top tier, but I got to say at the same time it's really underwhelming, specially if you compare it to DG. Like, are you really telling me in 10k years the Legion that needed most restructuring stayed the same while also loosing almost everything, where are the sneaky hidden ones, the blade masters, there were sorcerer's among all of them, where are a special set of human auxiliaries to support TS small numbers, be it the Prospering Guard or a unique cult that supports the Legion, why the fuck all Scarb Occult terminators got rubricated if they were some of the strongest sorcerer's in the legion, not like they couldn't have found ways to move the dust/souls of the rubrics into different vessels if they needed rubric terminators in the field. Did they really spend the last 10k years doing nothing but seethe over the SW while the legion fell apart. Guess I'll have to cross my fingers and hope GW throws them a bone. I'm honestly much more worried when it's time for the WE to get their own book, there I don't have the slightest idea were to begin to make them a faction on their own, GW really wrote them into a corner.

Can confirm, exalted sorcerers is a great source of bits. Extra shoulders, heads, chests, and staff ends.
Also Tzaangors are takeable as Thousand Sons. They're Beastmen. Bestigors sworn to Tzeentch.
But yes the upgrade sprue is available.

I have to agree that Thousand Sons have some great terminators and marines. Nice enough that if I was going to make a Chaos army they'd be top contenders. Unless we got new noise marines.... Then it'd be a tough call.

khopesh. you nailed it. When it comes to the chain swords I would argue that chaos tech has the most in common with ork tech.
the exalted sorcerer kit comes with several other options that are not shown on the site. and the backpacks can be swapped around. it's a really fun kit to put together
If you paint the mask the colour of his flesh, the bottom left is my favourite of Magnus' heads. I love the full headdress and eyepatch.
These guys are my first army. Iv been putting all the time into each unit, love most of the look except the tall helms. Been shaving that off and sculpting bird skulls over the headpiece. Also just adding more scrolls and books and bird skulls everywhere and it's looking great. They paint up much nicer with their chaos undivided color scheme too, so easy just basing them black and lightly edge brushing on some dry gold
0:55 if it destroyed your soul, it's only fitting for the Thousand Sons, considering the state of Magnus' soul. ;)
1K Sons tempt me too. Maybe you could scratch your kit bashing itch by going crazy on the bases. Really put them in a narrative setting. Like the Tzeentch Daemon World in the Eye of Terror they were transported to after the fall of Prospero.
I think the reason why the tzaangor sprue does not have 40K options included without an upgrade (as everybody is pointing out apparently) all boils down to one bit: production cost.
For those exclusive AoS players/collectors (even if they like 40k like I do) it's a bit odd to have distinctly 40K items in a bits pile. Vice versa for 40K exclusive players/collectors.
Furthermore, for the new player who may not yet know that each game has different load outs for the same model they may assemble a tzaangor group with bolt pistols and chainswords only to find out their Disciples of Tzeentch army is down a whole unit. Vice versa also for 40K (though this take my be wrong as I am none too versed in 40K load outs).
To make two separate boxes would draw complaints as players would ask "why not just kit-bash" or "can't they change the rules" leaving each Warhammer fan perhaps having to purchase a kit and bash it from one to another to varying degrees of difficulty.
Ultimately, to make an extra sprue that may not be used at all or to make two of the same thing would be costly. From the 40K box frame to the art to the printing of rules sheets, etc.

Best thing about Magnus is the ability to paint the armor separately. And the Tanzagors Autopistol chain swords were a downgrade sprue you could buy separately.
When creating my first ever DND Character, I was advised by my DM to either have attributes like myself, or the opposite of myself.
I hate change. Therefore, using the aforementioned logic, the Thousands Sons are a strong contender for something in 40K I’d absolutely love to collect (I think they look fantastic, as well as the Tzeentch type demons and flying ooglie booglies ).
That’s the justification I’d like to repeat to my wallet whenever I decide to do a new army, thank you for listening!

Thousand Sons are my favorite legion in the game. I just wish they had a few more options in their list. A sorcerer dread/brute would be a very welcome addition to the list. Havocs would also fit into the list well. A non-Ahriman generic Sorc/Lord is still missing but may have something coming soon for that. I'm also holding out hope for the Demon Prince to be redone and a proper Tzeentchy option for it. Rules wise is where this army falls apart unfortunately. The psychic phase in 40k is awful, their powers aren't great, a lot of them are still overcosted, and they still don't hold up well in a monolist. Especially a pure thousand sons and no demons list. I want to play them, but they're destined for the shelf unfortunately.
Can't they use sorcerer lord in terminator armor?
On Scarab Occult Terminators they are not chainswords, they are power weapons that happen to have fixed teeth. I would recommend spraying them gold and then painting the blue basecoat as it is far far quicker than painting all that trim!
For the face, I picked the mask but painted it like his normal face, and for the block thing in his right eye i painted it as a gem. Seems to look alright.
I always liked the metal ahriman model back in the day, but the plastic one is on another level.
With the announcement that thousand sons are next after the orks codex (along with grey knights), we'll probably see a few new models I expect in the next couple of months previews. I just want them to get to emperor's children personally though.
World Eaters would also be a great addition. Daemon Angron has some great art from the HH, I'd love to see him get a model.
@@alexkaplan6581 yes, they are ripe for new models like emperor's children are. New fully plastic noise marines would be great, especially if they did a squad like the single mini they did previously. Even if they just did the resin upgrade sprues in plastic it'd be a start though. I kinda wish sonic vehicle weapons still existed as they looked cool.
My one irritation with the Exalted Sorcerers are the mutations. The Rubric of Ahriman was done to stop those...
Yeah but some of the sorcerers embraced it after leaving prospero seeing it as “gifts”
@@sethjohnson411 not in most fluff I've read. And besides, it's literally every Exalted Sorcerer model.
I think the explanation is that the Rubric only affected the original Legionaries. Anyone who joined TSons after the Rubric seems to not be affected by the spell and thus prone to mutations, possibly because they now recruit through arcane rituals rather than gene-seed implantation - if Ahriman designed his spell to only affect gene-seed carriers (because at that time it'd be the easiest way to define who is or isn't a Thousand Son), it'd ignore those without it, even if they technically also belong to the Legion.
I would love to see every army receive a box like the Exalted Sorceror kit. Just a box that has bits and pieces to make 2 or 3 different variations of 1 or 2 HQ options. It's one of my favourite kits in the whole game.
Not a fan of the Mutalith though.
Oh wow! I love the range, I got some of my own, I think even the old Thousand Sons upgrade kit is still amazing. They always where one of my favourites, both in 40k and 30k range, that's why I have both! Is great range, and if you could be lucky enough you could add a Thousand Sons Chaos Dreadnought to your army, but now is pretty much impossible to get one, is was always a nice addition to a TS army. Models are great and lore too.
I think the exalted sorc kit would become one of your favorites if you got a chance to play around with it. There are additional unique head and staff options, as well as additional poses you can make, that aren't shown on the website.
The Exalted Sorcerer at 10:00 isn't wearing a helmet, that's his head.
Hooray! The best Legion. My boys in red/blue. They were the first one that I grew interested in, following a conversion showcased on ye olde GW website that had taken a Chaos Terminator and added a Tomb Kings names to the helmet. This was before they got the current Rubric marines as I recall. Love them all!
Edit: Referring to the Sorcerers they are a multipart kit that can be built in many, many ways. It's a fantastic source of bitz as well as great for your Tzeentchian needs!

You can kit bash all manner of librarians from that librarian kit ...the capes can be used for commanders in charge of your company or squad ...you could make versions of the different sects they have, the stylised design will really help bring any conversions back to source...
We really need more models/units in this army.

The Thousand Sons are probably my favourite Chaos range. I bought a few for Kill Team and they're lovely models, but I am too intimidated by the amount of detail to make a start on painting them!

You're missing out! The Exalted Sorcerer kit is one of the best kits GW has ever released, and if you were to buy and build one you would see why!

That chaos beast looks like a jacked up Demagorgon from Sranger Things.
I love the sons, but army wise we lack a lot that other factions have tons of are heavys units. As we have NONE that are unique to us. We also have only 2 named heros when others have tons.
Can confirm scarab occult are a pain to paint.
You can buy a separate upgrade kit for the tzangors with the chainsords and pistols

The swords for the Terminators are Power swords in the rules, so thankfully no need to understand how they run

I have to agree with you with the range being top tier, but I got to say at the same time it's really underwhelming, specially if you compare it to DG. Like, are you really telling me in 10k years the Legion that needed most restructuring stayed the same while also loosing almost everything, where are the sneaky hidden ones, the blade masters, there were sorcerer's among all of them, where are a special set of human auxiliaries to support TS small numbers, be it the Prospering Guard or a unique cult that supports the Legion, why the fuck all Scarb Occult terminators got rubricated if they were some of the strongest sorcerer's in the legion, not like they couldn't have found ways to move the dust/souls of the rubrics into different vessels if they needed rubric terminators in the field. Did they really spend the last 10k years doing nothing but seethe over the SW while the legion fell apart.
Guess I'll have to cross my fingers and hope GW throws them a bone.
I'm honestly much more worried when it's time for the WE to get their own book, there I don't have the slightest idea were to begin to make them a faction on their own, GW really wrote them into a corner.
