I LOVE this skimmer. So much i am waiting for my deltec to die on me, haha. Have nothing but good things to say about Maxspect, I am running the Recurve and 2 x Gyres on my 120 gallon. Should be noted that this skimmer can also be controlled by the ICV6 via the SYNA-G app
Would you say this is more quiet than the nyos quantum? In between this one and the nyos but I’m aiming more towards the AD600 more due too this video! But noise is a big factor for me. Thanks Jake!
I dig the level switch, the handle on the skimmer cup, the rest looks pretty well executed. Agreed on hopefully that cup release continues to work well as it gets older/dirty. I wonder if that air intake/silencer facilitates the clearing of fouling and salt creep (running RO water through the air intake to clean it). Skimming is all about air/water interaction and dwell time, so I am stoked to see that this thing could run recirculating mode too. That clip from Maxspect was dope and shows the impact of their innovation on those stationary pins. Only for sure bummer that I can see is not being able to use an aftermarket neck cleaner. Any word on whether they will offer a lid with a neck cleaner?

I’m a reef octopus guy when it comes to protein skimmers but do like a lot of things about this maxspect skimmer. Not sure about that gate valve though. It looks like it would settle and sort of self adjust over time but maybe I’m wrong.

Long term review of the aqua duo or all your skimmers?
I have found a serious issue with mine. Both Venturi's clog really bad in 2 months and even with hot water had a tough time clearing them. Was such a small opening with all that salt for the air. The venturi's are replaceable so they could be fixed with a better design to fix this. There is a reason you never design a right-angle venturi. Always straight and short for just that reason.
Jake, would there be a way to plug a silicon hose or such to be able to connect a CO2 scrubber?
I don't know yet, the air intake has no barb or nipple but doesn't look impossible, just haven't poked at the air intake that way yet
Hi, how do i correctly adjust it? I have three variables which confuse me: the controller speed, the two inputs and the outflowlevel. Three variables are too much for me. Why can’t there just be a single „speed“ or „skimmamount“?
Question, do you know if they sells a spare pump? Ussualy the pump is the first thing that brakes...
Where can I buy one at? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find one. Are they even available? If so where and if not when will it be because I’d like to get in line for some. Thanks!

I can't wait till it hits the market. I'm estimating prices to be from $600-$800... I should save my pennies up now. You did miss how the water exits the skimmer through the little slit infront the pump, then goes under the skimmer and then backup and out though the front 😉.

So looks like you totally forgot the controller review any thing on that? Like how many levels of power can you set? Is there a timer built-in. How do you reset the auto over flow switch off. Is there a wireless app to control the pump or send an alert when its tripped the shutdown float switch. Other then that great review I try to follow all your shows your info is real and enthusiastic.
Buddy I'll give you some answers to your questions.
1. There are 10 level of powers you can set.
2. There is a timer built-in, in fact, it's got a 24 hours programmable cycle that you can program on the controller, or on the Syna-G app (iOS/Android) if you own an ICV6.
3. Once the flow switch is back to normal position, the pump will resume working after a few seconds.
4. There is an app (Syna-G) to control the pump, if you're running the app you'll see the alert when the float switch is tripped.
I didn't get into it for two reasons, one is that it's all similar to the Gyre and Turbine duo functions, as listed below. And secondly the vid is already 20 mins and it will take some time to really grasp the controller/app/programming functions, as in months to really understand and appreciate.

I agree great skimmer but.....would have been cherry on the cake to have a neck cleaning option even if it's a manual cleaner like Red Sea....

Yeah I watched that one but there was never a video saying who won. How many zip ties were used. Assuming if it was never announced that one of your buddies won the pumps.
It looks unique. Unfortunately, it's Maxspect. I lost respect on day #2 of my Gyre. Their customer service was horrid.

Collection cup sure is small considering the size of the skimmer.
it's more than enough. How big do you want it to be?
if you wet skim there's a cup drain but for normal thick skimmate it's more than enough volume. remember it's oval shaped like the footprint of the skimmer

In the instruction booklet the ideal level is 18 to 24 cms but on the brand's website it indicates lower levels eg for an aquarium of 160 to 260 gallons indicates a height of 16 cms

Plenty of saltwater aquarium devices use small titanium parts or hardware which never corrode

My Nyos 160 skims about the same but has ZERO innovative features, is quite loud and has a tendency to overflow without warning
