I have been running the AD600 (Aqua duo) for about 2.5 years. I love this skimmer. I purchased an extra pump just in case, but haven't needed it. It is extremely quite, efficient, and easy to use. The configurability to switch the intake to recirculation is fantastic in the early stages when organic concentrations are low. It packs so much punch for the amount of space it takes up.
Upgraded to the AD600 1 year ago, It was a bit intimidating to tune at the beginning, but I finally got it. Maintenance is so straightforward, and it can be fully disassembled. Unfortunately, I don't have the time for a full teardown every month, so I do it every 180 days. Great skimmer!
Thank you for this Ryan. Been looking at this for quite a while. Seems like an underestimated skimmer.
The Bubble King on my tank broke an impeller. I replaced it with the Maxspect Dou and I am not going back to BK. I like this better and 1/3rd the price - Ryan B
This skimmer works well. The two complaints that I have are that the air intake is too loud and Tke soft plastic screws that hold the base together break easily. This skimmer is still the loudest component of my tank. The channel under the motor clogs and taking the base apart is difficult with those rubbery screws. I have already broken one of them.
Yes, I totally agree. Have the jump skimmer and are loud, I plugged a Co2 scrubber onto the air line that solved the noise. The part broke away and also the same issue from the hose holder. The great skimmer works well and is easy to dial in. The lid is a nightmare to get off and clean with pit spilling it.
I love my AD600, 3 years running. no issue at all. no break-in period. Skim thick gunk on the first day! Skimmer is pretty quiet. not sure why ppl are complaining it's loud. ZERO issue with this skimmer. Thank goodness i sold my problematic Nyos and switch to Maxspect!
Leaving the bubbles on full and using a DC supply pump to regulate the water flow and level is so much better. You try restricting the bubbles and over time the restriction point can plug with dust and will constantly need adjustment outside maintenance intervals.
I love this skimmer!
I always learn something about first principles from these conversations. I didn't appreciate the link between air flow and bioload. Made me realise my new dc pump was set too high.
All I can say is that after using the Aeraqua Duo (AD600) for the past 4 years and switching to the Royal Exclusive Bubble King Double Cone 250,… I wish I hadnt!!!!! The ability to recirculate the water and air makes the AD600 the best skimmer I have ever used. I used to take out one full cup per week with the AD600 and with the Royal Exclusive it takes 4 weeks to fill the cup. The only (very significant) flaw of the Maxspect is that much like the gyres, you need to clean the pump at least once per month as performance quickly deteriorates.
I’ve been using the big boy AD 600 for 3 years with zero complaints. I’ve modified the hoses to be able to use ozone, I’m just waiting for what’s next for this skimmer such as pump modulating to stop overflowing and use the over flow float as a back up, also a auto skim neck cleaner.
One is in my wish list at BRS.
I love the look of these skimmers - are they ozone ready?
That what I want to know as well can I hook up ozone to my SK 400?
@@daveamason I'm pretty sure not - the Aeraqua Duo needs a special kit - ask BRS if that will work on the SK400
Got the ad600 on my waterbox 220.6 after upgrading from curve 7, let me just say this thing is a beast at skimming. Yes it’s not the cheapest but imo it’s the best compared to what I seen. My father got the Rsk 400 on his 110.4 and again it’s a beast.
Great products
I have the DUO it's a nice skimmer but not designed well for me really. You have to leave it apart and have adaptors if you want to take air from outside and it's not Ozone safe. Great if you don't need that though. Needs a 0-10v connector so I can run it with my Apex.
I think Maxspect lights were quite underrepresented in the current BRS lights investigates series. The newest models not included in the test would deserve a proper analysis too. 🧐
The foam behind the opening let go, can I buy the foam seperatly? I removed it because it was loose. I have the SK400.
Any ideas how this performs on 200gallon and larger aquariums? Heavier bioloads. Unfortunately maxspect on has the ad600 and its not exactly rated for larger aquariums but would love to try it out..
I have a 220 heavy bioload
This would be great to use both ozone and a c02 scrubber at the same time!
connect to the air intake instad they conect to the sillencer ? cause am freaking out not being abble to conect my ozone to this ... BBM was so much easyer chipper and effective
where do i plug the ozone ... easy in the 400, did they forget it on the 600? it even as rubber upgrade for ozone....
Is there a skimmer that can be incorperated into Apex Fusion?
For me, personally though, the reliability of the pump and whether or not the skimmer is super sensitive water level - are the two most important things in a skimmer. Dont really care about how "easy" it is to adjust the skimmer is, because, none of them are too hard.
If it’s not recirculating, it’s not competitive…
Soo... I'm looking to buy a good skimmer BUT what is a good skimmer? How do I know when I find the right one?
Reef Octopus. Any of the classics. DC pumps are good but not necessary
Many good brands. One brand you won't hear much about, but may want to look into is LifeReef. They take a different approach to skimming and from what I have read seem to have the most efficient skimmer. I will be ordering one next month.
The silencer on the 400 is terrible. Very easy to make a diy though. I lowered the noise by 8db by creating a diy silencer from a used food box.
Are there skimmer options for my Innovative Marine 40L?
I wish I could afford a new skimmer, I dont really like mine.
We will see if the pumps last… SICCE is most reliable. Look at the DC pump mess with Skimz.
Can you run a sps tank without skimmer if nutrients are low even without? Or will some other impurities or organics will build up and harm the tank over time?
If your bio load is low enough to control nutrients without a skimmer than of course! I think too many people categorize skimmers as an essential piece of equipment when really it’s only essential if your bio load is high enough to necessitate one.
Easily the worst Advertisement you have made BRS, I guess there is a reason they don't have the maxspect electrical devices running in the last few videos......
