The amount of pot-holes and poor tarmac in the UK means this is the best Porsche for everyday use. Our roads are not great for sports cars
BELGIUM roads are ever worse , probably the nastiest around ( Germany , Holland , France have all better road maintenance follow-up )
@@BlueHopi144 I pictured Belgium having fantastic roads, just like Germany, although I’ve never driven them. No idea if you’ve driven British roads, but they’re the worst I’ve seen in 33 year’s driving. Our “road Tax” isn’t spent on the roads…so yeah!
I can confirm the UK has much worse roads than Belgium😂
IMO, it's the ultimate so-called Chelsea tractor. That's why you can tick the summer tyres at no cost option instead of off-road tyres.
@@James-oo1yq agreed - pretty sure they've given up on repairing them this year.
I reside in the hinterlands of western Canada where the roads consist mostly of gravel and broken tarmac, and next to no law enforcement. This 911 is my ultimate car!
Grizzly Adams?
@@blackporscheroadster-yw8hb Not quite! Been fly fishing the past 3 days in the foothills of the Canadian rockies though.
@@jayfxdx Catching salmon for your pet Grizzly? I'm off to Wales tomorrow. UK's equivalent of the Rockies. Less dramatic, than the Rockies, but in it's own way just as stunning.
@@jayfxdx untill the gov ban it for being too free
In belgium it's not odd we have porsches gt2rs for rally
let's be honest, chris is one of the people i can listen to hours. and on top one of the best drivers you will see on youtube or tv. a few days ago i rewatched his video with the legendary 962
Back-to-back Harris in Rothmans' liveried Porsches. What are the odds?
Think I've seen the review of the mclaren p1 at least 12 times now aswell 😂
Agreed, but his reviews are nothing like his golden era ten years ago.
Just a shout out, his idol chat on the Kate brake show with jonny Smith is a brilliant watch. Another I've watched multiple times.
@@DirtyI30N The part where he's still on public roads but he asks Chris Goodwin if he can step on it a little bit, and you hear the turbos spool and the car go into warp speed. I've watched that short bit dozens of time. Forget throttle response, there's tremendous excitement about the way a heavily turbocharged engine delivers power.
"Is it rubbish or not?" - it's a kind of car reviews that we needed. Thank you Chris.
I mean did anyone expect it to be rubbish? 🤷🏻
Love the fact the jump has no tyre tracks at a certain point, just shows Chris sent it everytime 😄
Chris Harris and this car deserve more than 7 minutes. Good stuff, more please!
Those who have dared to take out their four-wheel drive 911 with good winter tires in the middle of the Swedish winter have discovered the following: They have, for several generations back, been unexpectedly capable and fun! But during the snowy, slushy season, of course the Dakar now has the best looks (and ground clearance) of them all.
Its one of those vehicles that people will probably buy and keep in storage facilities for 10 years and then sell them for double the sticker price unfortunately.. its nice to see it being used for its intended purpose!
I think Porsche will make another Dakar version when they make another generation of 911. Dakar will be only a version of 911, like Gt2 or Gt3 so it won't be so colectible in the future. The price of Dakar is incredibly high so this 2500 need a lot of marketing to sell it. In Poland, Romania , Hungary you still can order it with any problems.
There should be a rule that you must jump it at least once.
@@lukaszmajewski2757 only time will tell my friend ..
@@AussieDaz87 lol indeed and it must be driven on a dirt road once a year
I mean I’ve already seen one on the road where I live and I know there is at a minimum one other being driven around. I wouldn’t be shocked if they’re driven in the winter as well.
Man, this takes me back to the golden era of DRIVE network. Matt Farah driving the 911 Safari, and Chris in that lovely ice driving video...
I'm so glad to see these type of videos return. I was sorely missing them.
Perfect car for eastern Europe also, the cars here in the winter look exactly the same as in the end of the video
Showing the real potential being driven properly. Chris the man as always.
That jump looked effortless… in slow motion at least. Porsche seems to always knock it out of the park!
Honestly, even when WE think they missed the mark... History just shows us that we are wrong.
People were reading the pitchforks when the Cayenne came out. Then again with the Panamera.
While the looks were... Questionable, the sales numbers proved us wrong. Im guessing this will sell pretty well too.
Also, i REALLY want one. Like. Bad.
Literally the only car guy to watch. Amazing as always.
On the roads I drive every day, in rural Southern Ontario, this would be the most usable, fit for purpose sports car. Our roads are beating the crap out of my poor old Miata. If only I could afford it!
Me too and my 911 in the heart of the Rockies here in Colorado. My dealer is doing a bid for their allocations. The over will be just stupid, I'm sure, and it's already 240k done 'reasonably'.
The fact that Porsche is not just selling this as a regular series production model at half the MSRP it's listed at is proof to me that anyone who buys this is an idiot.
It's a shame that being on Top Gear didn't increase Chris's popularity with the casual motoring fan. More people should watch him. When he does this kind of stuff.
I always love watching Chris drive cars and listen to him talk about cars...Absolutely brilliant.
I had the old 959 Dakar as an R/C car - I loved that thing.
Tamiya 959 paris dakar - always wanted one but never got one. You were lucky
@@FlamesOfThought RZ540 TECHNIGOLD MOTOR
The drifting and commentary is fantastic as always.
That is the perfect Porsche for Alberta, Canada! If you've driven a car on a northwest Canadian highway, then you know what I'm talking about...
best idea in a long time porsche, this is the car we dont need but want.
Remember Lydden Hill circuit when they used to televise Rally Cross in the early 1970s. Ford Escort Mk1 ( obviously) , Ford Capris, Hillman Imps , Minis, what about Daf cars normally associated as being driven by a Variomatic rubber band transmission but these had Cosworth BDA twin cam conversions . Great Stuff.
I could listen to this man talk about automobiles all day long
This was so well shot! Those slo-mo jumps! 5:21👌🏻
I'm still waiting to see Chris Harris driving the GT4 RS (me and many others, I presume). Perhaps Collecting Cars is the one which will bring us this joy.
I’m not gonna lie. I’ve never dreamed of a car soo damn much. I need that car like a fish needs water. It’s so freakin practical yet so supercar.
Chris delivers once again, thank you!!!!
Couldn’t wait for Chris to drive this🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I really need this. Love the styling, love the ride height and love the capabilites.
Chris,
Your reviews are very simply...Brilliant..!
The beauty shots at the end by Neil and synced with the music were pure bliss
Nice video. Thanks for the excellent effort.
"Is it rubbish or not?"
This is why Chris Harris is a fan favourite LOL
Heritage Chris heritage, which makes Porsche awesome and beautiful...
Honor to the 1985-86 959 Rally car what took part in the real Paris - Dakar rally...
Love all your video's Chris!!!
Awesome review Chris, and an awesome track to review on ❤❤❤
Lydden Hill is amazing I have been lucky enough to attend quite a few Rallycross and Press events there.. and the Dakar, I love it!
This is the perfect 911 for me. There are some underground parking garages and inclines in parts of Seoul where even the front lift system in my current 911 is cutting it close when parking.
Plus looking at the video this car looks better dirty. I don't have to get it washed as much. Perfect daily driver for me. Wasn't a big fan of the 992. But I'll take this one.
Chris Harris reviewing a car is absolutely golden!
Beautiful.
Nor to kiss his rear-end, but this man is the best reviewer of cars in the history of UA-cam.
GBP173k + options, but this one with livery and roll cage probably costs 193k. I spec'd one for the road at 184k (shade green metallic, summer tyres, 18-way seats). IMO, it's the ultimate Chelsea tractor. GT3 is great for smooth tarmac and where revving to 9,000 in any gear but first doesn't lose your licence. For UK roads in general, parking in paddocks, and driving the likes of the North Coast 500, this is the ultimate 911, IMO. Chris Harris is simply telling it as it is. Bravo for daring to challenge most people's thinking.
Love it, cheers Chris.
Saw a white one on the top of Waitrose car park in Solihull last week. Fook me it looked amazing. Plate was something like 2JSV, it moved off before I could pick my jaw up
Was hoping you'd get a drive in this thing, glad you liked it, Rj in Oz
Found my next winter beater, thank you Chris.😂
I’m converting my 955 to an over lander and using this livery which is just gorgeous!!
Not going to lie, this is perfect for the potholes in Houston and Chicago.
Used to watch rallyx in the 80s with many a 911 doing the rounds. Motorsports was fun to watch back then
Been waiting for this.
Agreed, raised is the new lowered!
One of the few times you’ll see a Dakar doing what it was designed and intended to do. The vast majority will be driven from a pristine garage, via a wet, gravel car park located near some manicured green space, (to get the splashed mud effect), on the way to a chi-chi neighbourhood cafe where they’ll be parked up for a morning’s gentle posing.
We need more, longer videos Chris
Porsche could make a shopping trolley and Chris would love it!
Chris has to be the best car presenter out there
Saw one in person at Luft 9. Amazing car!
My only complaint is that these videos aren’t 5x-10x longer
It looks amazing too.
Perfect toy for those with deep enough pockets to not worry about the consequences of beating the hell out of the car and the cost of repair when something breaks. Chris put it perfectly when he said each car should come with its own rallycross track:) I will stick with my cheap KTM motorcycle for gravel giggles and enjoy my 911 C2s on pavement. The 911 Dakar is very cool though and kudos to Porsche for making it.
Depending on where you live the Dakar or one of the SUVs are the only Porsche you should consider because of the potholes.
An armored 911 Dakar would be perfect for Sao Paulo!
When you have this kind of cash just move out of Sao Paulo.
Regardless of price/purpose, im just happy this car even exists in 2023.
I most DEFINITELY want one of these! I just wish it had a 959 style rear end.
Chris your the GOAT of car reviews and I’m an American ❤
My favorite Porsche.. 🎉🎉🎉
It launches nicely.
Can’t wait to get mine
Chris is major league talented....I love watching him slide a car like its nothing...the rest of us would wreck it in the first turn
Lol. The only difference between him and you is opportunity and practice.
Cant wait for the Lamborghini Sterato review!
My favourite driver and car presenter ❤️👌
He's the Man.
Chris Harris: Dancing With Cars!!!
Thanks to collecting cars.❤ Toyota Corolla GR❤
Perfect For The Caribbean 🇻🇨
Perfect for all those potholes and speed bumps in London
I've been waiting so long for THIS. Monkey and the Dakar 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
What a car! ❤
I enjoy this SO much more than Top Gear
I remember when the Yaris GR was a
Prototype and Toyota fitted one with the same off-road tyres smaller wheels and mud flaps and jacked the suspension up a little, looked a lot of fun, odd they never kept that as an option as there’s clearly a market there for it. I dare say most will be kept in collections never to see a spec of mud
Personally, I'd rather an SRT Jeep/Durango, or a modded ST Explorer.
Yet this machine (if I had a spare $200K+) seems like good fun on the trails or streets as well!
Epic!
One of the best things about it is that if you are fortunate enough to own one then you probably won’t feel guilty if it’s not clean.
What the bloody have Porsche done here?!? They've only confirmed that the 911 is the definitive sports car and now Rallye? Mind blown
7:29 Those muddy shots 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
I'm intrigued to know what Chris is NOT saying about the 992 GT3, and the actual reason he sold his.
Prob same thing as everyone says - too harsh for the road
@@SenszR which is total crap that it’s too harsh for the road, Chris even said when he reviewed the silver Touring that it was fine. He also made mention that in another video that a lot of his reason for keeping the 991.2 Touring was that he already had like 50k miles and his dog basically lives in it, and that he is emotionally attached to that car and keeping both wasn’t something he particularly wanted to do……and that the new 992 Touring had a very expensive brown interior that he said he was having a hard time with giving the dog free rein to potentially destroy. Every person with a 991.2 GT3 wants to think they have the superior car so they want to believe that Chris got rid of the 992 as a result of it somehow being inferior
@@jameswillard1 triggered!
@@jameswillard1 I doubt it’s “total crap” considering most respected auto journalists said the same thing. The touring has a different suspension setup to the standard GT3. If I was to guess why Chris sold his I’d imagine he paid retail price and sold at a profit and/or decided the money was better placed elsewhere.
@@SenszR whether touring GT3 or non touring GT3 both have exact same suspension tuning, there has been some discussion as to ride quality varying depending on which tires the car is shipped with.
Perfect place for that car
Chis you amazing ❤
Yes please in Oxford Green with a black and tan tartan cloth interior and silver wheels, then use it as a daily around the Suffolk countryside
Porsche at the top of the game ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
P1 vid still the best
The only 911 I could be interested in
Finally, a 911 I can drive in the Midwest USA.
Some roads are terrible and pothole ridden and thats when the increased suspension travel must really come in handy.
Big sidewalls and long travel, yes please: on everything! 😊
Great consumer advice. Cheers Chris. I’ll be on the blower tomorrow first thing….
Imho this is the most everyday usable 911 ever. Chris No.1!
Great driving and looks like a lot of fun, but if you don't want to hire out Lydden Hill, where do you drive it?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍fantastic
The way the roads are nowadays.... I'd buy this over any other sports and supercars. I've hit some "hidden" potholes and thought I lost a tire. This is the true supercar for the everyday road
I have been asking for this for decades, finally here, but not yet have the money.
If the same car had been production version and had it been offered in India I can confidently say that at least 20-25 cars would have been easily ordered by Indian exotic and young car buyers
Ideal for Los Angeles ❤
Great video. We need more high rise sports cars. The Lambo next ?
