    Some more reasons to recruit a lot of companions:
    - Out of combat utility wizard or two to cast invisibility on your thieves and other out of combat spells you might need like feather fall.
    - Make those wizards Transmutation wizards to be able to craft 2x potions with medical skill as well.
    - Some summoning spells for familiars, imps and mage hands will help with getting loot from unreachable places and help with puzzles.
    - Arcane tricksters invisible mage hand can push characters off roofs and into chasms or lava to help out before a fight.
    - Give some of your extra characters the ritual caster feat to talk to all the deaddies that refuse to talk your murder squad.
    - You can have a dedicated pickpocket so your own important characters don't land in trouble and you don't have to swap gear constantly.
    - A high strength mule character to bring those explosive barrels from the camp to the battlefield. (Pick-up and send to camp barrels from the environment to use later)
    - I love this game.

    Another HUGE reason to use these guys is they have NO MORALS. These guys go along with whatever you do without consequence so if you want to do something somewhat controversial, you don't have to do it alone. Origin characters have really complex reactions especially if you have 3 of them it becomes a lot to balance. So I prefer to take one or two at a time and always use at least one hireling. Currently playing as a Deep Gnome Thief (MOST UNDERATED RACE - OBCENELY OP) and I use the hirelings to make a small people party for exploring places only small size creatures can fit. It also really pays huge dividends if you make a few characters with godstat perception rolls (wisdom rouge/bard with expertise) to find all the secret stuff you're missing.

    • @OttoResolve
      @OttoResolve  11 місяців тому

      That's a great point. I didn't even think about that. Also, depending on the situation and the character's race or class you may even get a few extra dialogue options. Thanks for the comment. My apologies for the delayed reply.

    a lot of the story around the companions seems to be based around the campsite, I'm not sure it's actually that advantageous to spend as long as possible between each long rests, at least in terms of advancing relationships. You also get A LOT of food that can weigh quite a bit, so I don't think there is much of a downside to camping more often and using it up

    • @OttoResolve

    • @TF2CrunchyFrog
      @TF2CrunchyFrog Рік тому +1

      Yes, main story progress and companions personal quest progress in BG3 is build around resting often and talking to the Companions often, even if they don't have an exclamation mark over their heads they usually have something to say after a major encounters or dialogue with a named NPC. Any story-relevant event, basically. It's useful to jump to camp even for a Short Rest if possible, that can already trigger cutscenes. And if you don't Long Rest enough, you will skip important story-relevant or character-relevant cut-scenes simply because you're way past the area or quest that would've triggered them. Or they start to queue and pile up, as the game starts shovingthem backwards.
      If the player keeps going without properly resting, some important NPC encounters like Raphael are sometimes forced in the middle of the day outside of camp, simply because you need to have encountered him in Act 1 or else whole plotlines in Act 2 would become impossible.

    The three-hirelings limit is the reason I’ll have to save Minthara the next time by knocking her out, so that I still have access to a paladin. Because my hirelings are a potion maker, a monk, and a ranger. If Larian finally made Alfira playable for the entire game, you’d have at least one character of each class available.
    I guess I could respec the ranger into a paladin, once I’ve found Minsc. But he will only be along for the ride for the final portion of the game.

      @@doncagape5409 Several characters might leave if you slaughter the tieflings and druids, not just Wyll. Shadowheart and Gale and Karlach will hate it, even if they don't leave right away. And of course recruiting Halsin the bear druid becomes impossible if you sided with the goblins and slaughtered everyone at the grove, although he will break out on his own if you didn't kill him and hunt you down later.
      Sadly, currently the only way to have Minthara (the evil drow paladin from the goblin camp) plus Wyll and Halsin in your group seems to not to take _either_ side in the druids vs goblins conflict in Act 1, effectively skipping a large chunk of Act 1 storyline and quests. If you don't kill the three goblin camp leaders that include Minthara, she will later turn up as a prisoner in Moonrise Towers where you can save her and recruit her (and even turn her away from the Absolute cult). But if you ignore the entire conflict, AFAIK the druids led by Kagha will push the tieflings out and the tieflings will all die on the road trying to reach Baldur's Gate.
      From what I've seen and read, you can portaljump back into Act 1 area after Moonrise Towers but before you enter Act 3 to eradicate the goblins then and rescue Halsin if he's still there... but since Minthara will already be in your group then, I honestly wonder how that screws up the "kill all three goblin camp leaders" quest? Or what happens if you expose Kagha and the Shadow Druids or kill Kagha, but never rescued Halsin? But exposing Kagha means having to interact with the druid storyline anyway.
      If you sided with the tieflings and killed the goblin leaders (and thus stopped their attack plans) so the tieflings can travel safely, a few of them will still get abducted will going the Underdark route and will end up prisoner in Moonrise Towers where you can free them and send them to Baldur's Gate. You will also re-encounter a tiefling child rogue you had previously met at the Grove when you get to the Last Light Inn in the Shadow Lands in Act 2... she is playing chess with Raphael.

I lost both characters and i forget his name, but the druid that turns into a bear, he's in my camp, but for some reason, the game won't give me the option to have him in my party. I hate it here 😂
