I ran/jogged at least 15 km per week for years (3 runs), bicycle everywhere, have a huge garden etc etc. I was always considered the most active 60+ woman known to mankind. I don’t eat salty food, I don’t eat ANY fast food, drink no more than 1 glass of wine per day, I eat little meat, lots of fish, lots of fruit & veggies (much from my garden), have a normal weight, never smoked - and my blood pressure was too high for years as was my cholesterol. Then I had a small stroke last year, I was SO fortunate because I have no lasting effects. Oh and I have a blissful life, happy marriage etc. no stress. So now I’m on blood thinners, cholesterol and blood pressure medication. My only consolation was the doctor who said “if you didn’t have this fabulous life style, this would have happened to you years ago and would probably have been worse. But just to recognize that it’s not always life style, there are people who are genetically predisposed - me!
The fittest guy I knew, who ate a perfect diet, etc etc, had a massive stroke a few years ago, and now he is seriously incapacitated, so it goes to show, the most important thing is regularly checking your blood pressure, imho,,
That is the problem you're eating a lot of fruits and vegetables we've been lied to go to a carnivore or high protein diet meat does not kill you. It is what human beings are supposed to eat. The government lies to us so they can throw medicine at us refer to Dr. Stan Eckberg, but most importantly to others on UA-cam, Dr. Berry. Dr. ANTHONY CHAFFEE. They will tell you what you're supposed to eat and you will see in a remarkable difference in your blood pressure. I used to have the same diet as you I was 240 pounds. I went just about complete carnivore lost 40 pounds in my blood pressure medicine are thrown away.
I agree with you, however, it could be argued that 1 glass of wine per day, everyday, is excessive. I would be curious if cutting that out all together would have any impact? Myself personally, I have a very noticeable impact on my blood pressure when I exercise regularly.
I had high blood pressure for many years. I was diagnosed in 1999 I was prescribed blood pressure medication, which I took for 23 years. Now I don't have it, and the cure was potassium. I started taking it two months ago. High blood pressure is gone, the solution about 2500mg potassium a day. I feel like amazing. Potassium sources are coconut water and anything that contains potassium vegetables and supplements.
Went to my doctor. I have high blood pressure because excessive smoking and drinking. This video has made me aware that I need to make changes in my life. I going to star today no more bad habit’s, because life is short. Thanks for your video.
Good for you. I smoked for over 30 years and have now quit for over 24 years. My doctor said, once I've passed the 20 year smoke free mark (without incident) It's as if I never smoked before. You can do it. No matter how hard it is, keep telling yourself, you are now an "ex" smoker, no matter difficult it is. The difficulty doesn't last. I also quit drinking 5 months ago. I bike ride 30 miles, 3 times a week. I'm 73.
Congrats to you two! I learned to smoke as an 18-yr-old because I thought it was attractive, until I was panting just going up two flights of stairs. I quit at age 28. Since then, I have come to find people who smoke as unattractive, smelly, insecure, nicotine-addicted people whom I have no sympathy for. I am 70 now.
And btw, I always tell friends, who say they cannot stop smoking, how ill it will make them. When they come up with an excuse, I say “well it’s up to you, but remember I cared enough to advise you against it.” 😊
Your sleep will tell you what else you need to focus on. Stress and anxiety is the greatest disruptor to the metabolism; as much or more so than diet. I have a GED from a not very credible school for adults. I’m belligerent and a pain in the ace to authority and very unsuccessful financially, but I know this.

As a retired nurse, I know all these recommendations for lowering B/P. I have a cat and have read that petting a cat lowers B/P. I think I will experiment to see how much laughter lowers it as well. Thanks docs!!! We need this kind of patient education!!

I have 3 cats. All my life my blood pressure was A bit below normal but suddenly went up to 146. I’m wondering why but I would let you know when I find out.
Age 78. 18 months ago BP was 150-160 range, depending what I ate. My GP wanted to put me on medication. I refused.Now I read labels for salt content. Pretty much stopped eating in restaurants. I keep my salt intake at 1500mg or less. I exercise at least 90 minutes/day everyday. I quit eating most canned food. I east less food. and lost 15 lbs. Bp is now at 130/70.
I relate. My diet has always been great with one big no no. I ate lots of pretzels, salted nuts and popcorn. I have just stopped all of that. I am 5’4 , 116 lbs and 75. Just started a homeopathic medication for BP and am riding a bike every day. Today it was 130/58
Awesome. I listen to several doctors on UA-cam and all of them say most problems like BP and Diabetes can be solved with diet and exercise but most people would rather take a pill which in my opinion is just a bandaid. Eventually they succumb to the illness so medication is a last resort.

My grandpa drank 2 to 3 beers almost every day of his life, starting at about the age of 16. Was thin all of his life, never had hbp or diabetes and lived to be 93. Yes, he did smoke ciggies (light to moderate) until his 60's, but then gave them up on the advice of his doctor. A couple of things I remember vividly about gramps was --- he was always active, right into his 80's, bowling, golfing, fishing, doing things around the house, he was always up and moving. No. 2: He ate a lot of garlic, often raw but cooked into meals that grandma would make. He used to eat a lot of canned fish items like mackerel, sardines, tuna, kippers, often just for snacks. For a snack, he would have a tin of sardines and a shot of cold vodka from the fridge, one of his favorites. Ate lots of cabbage and kraut. He loved clams -- steamed or raw. When younger, he would go fishing (jersey shore), blues, flounder, whiting, etc... then go home clean, cook and eat his catch, usually fried in a cast iron pan with LOTS of butter. We always said he would've hit 100 if he didn't smoke all those years. I think because he was always active and eating things like garlic, eggs, kraut and fish regularly, the alcohol didn't have the impact as say, some in their senior years who didn't move around much, no exercise, and eating a bad diet including sugar and snacks. Grandma lived to be 97, btw. That's my 0.02cents, but I think there's something to it.
Genetics are 99% more important, my Dad died at 71drunk and smoked, my Grandad 74 didnt drink and smoke, I don't expect to live into my 80's no matter what I do
Your comments about in office test not always being correct really helped me with my anxiety toward BP. I seem to always feel enough anxiety at doctors visits to put me into the mid to high 130's. I am 54, I eat almost to a fault exactly what you are are supposed to. Zero processed food, zero alcohol, never smoked, plus I do 4 hrs of low intensity and 1 hour of max intensity cardio a week and two to three strength workouts on top of it. I should have perfect BP.... I bought a home cuff machine and low and behold after recording my BP in the morning and evening every day for a month my average was 116/73! Takeaway is that I need to learn to relax better before the office visits and have started practicing breathing techniques etc.

I had relative high blood pressure for a while due to untreated sleep apnea. After I started sleeping with a CPAP machine my systolic and diastolic values both went down by roughly 25 to get me a little under 120/80. I’ve since started exercising and have lowered a little more. My wife is very happy with those two life choices.
My doctor told me that my sleep apena results were severe .. I stop breathing to the point that I sometimes wake up with vomit in my mouth. I have had a brand new " Dream Machine" beside my bed for 4 years and hove not turned it on once ... I don't know why, I find it a " bother" ... dam eh. I sleep in my lazyboy, so I don't even get to turn on my side...my blood pressure is high so now I have to take 4 pills a day., I'm 64 years old and stopped working a year ago, so now I don't even leave the house to exercise ... tell me my days are numbered .... scare me please.

I'm 77 years old and I just took my blood pressure. It's 120/67 with a pulse of 48. I add salt to my food but I also exercise a lot and never eat fast food or restaurant food.
Essential hypertension is primarily driven by high levels of insulin and insulin resistance. If you cut out sugar, and refined carbs, it will most certainly lower your BP substantially.
I definitely get too much sugar. I will consciously cut sugar and see if it helps with blood pressure. Thank you. I never thought sugar could be the culprit
5 years ago was at 140/100. took 3 different meds to get it down to a reasonable level. 2 years ago I started walking, eating less, and eating much more healthy. I'm now at 80/50 to 90/60 and off all three meds (weaned oof of them over a year) with no symptoms associated with low blood pressure. During the "bad" time I ate all the time, ate a ton, and ate everything bad for me. Pizza and burgers everyday (literally) and lots of candy all the time. I was at 300, and after 2 years at 200
I always had slightly low or normal blood pressure until I had severe arthritis pain in my hip. Then my blood pressure stayed elevated. A few weeks after surgery for THR it went back down to normal. My conclusion is blood pressure elevation can be a sign of inflammation somewhere in the body. Glad for the new hip and normal blood pressure!

I just came back from a quick trail15 minute walk. My blood pressure is 112/68/66. Im taking lasarton because of extensive head and neck surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation to remove cancers, which started on February 16, 2016. So, last couple years ago despite diet and exercise I developed high blood pressure. I am doing well despite cancer returning. ❤
Shame on you guys and you call yourselves cardiologist. You forgot to include on the list and it should be #1 sugar! Sugar and excessive carbohydrate consumption causes hbp and insulin resistance along with metabolic syndrome. To lower BP you want to eat foods rich in nitrates such as spinach and beets and other foods as well. You guys are a bunch of rookies 😂

this reminds me of the time when I was in my 40’s…. wanted to buy life insurance. They said that I need to come to their clinic so that they can check my vital signs. That afternoon, I got stuck in traffic so long then struggled to find the place and parking, ran into the clinic since late…. blood pressure was almost 173…. of course fail no life insurance test so bad 😂😂😂😂. My normal good pressures mostly very good.
All great advice. At 82 I am blessed with good health physically and mentally. Being a vegan is probably a big plus. I do however, take medication to lower my BP. There always seems to be something that hijacks our wellbeing. For me it is anxiety. No matter how I try there are burgeoning numbers of reasons that cause worry and frustration. I do have a dog though, and she does comfort me as I hope I do her as well. We all have an expiration date, and none of us will get past that no matter how we try.
Not to mention age has a lot to do with. Our vessels shrink so OUR heart has to work harder. Most older adults should be on a low dose bp med if foe no reason than the heart vessels shrink.
Well said. An if you still have your teeth check for abcess tooth. They can also raise blood pressure. Any who our blood vessels get narrower as we age.

I started having blood pressure issues 3 years ago. The smallest amount of what one would see as normal day to day stress has my blood pressure go as high as stage 2 or crisis. But if I’m laying down I have low blood pressure or normal low when I am sitting. I’m 39 now and am not taken seriously at all about it because I started testing at home. I’m only slightly elevated when they average out the 3 readings after sitting for all three. My doctor said I shouldn’t worry about it even with hundreds of pictures of readings I’m told to find ways to calm myself down as if I’m hysterical when my blood pressure goes that high. I figure I’ll just have a short life and have come to accept it living here in Canada. Finding Christ has helped me find peace with it.
I absolutely love your videos! I am drinking a quart of hibiscus tea for high blood pressure but my Docs also added to double of meds that I am already on. I’m 65 and after 55 let go of the “rejection of taking medications “. I say, drink the hibiscus tea, do the reduce stress activities but also take the meds! was at 200 over 100 in september, through quitting smoking and using vitamins and supplements am down to 140 over 80, cut way down on milk and bread, increased potassium and magnesium.
I measure my blood pressure on the first of every month.. the numbers can vary from month to month, but all the data is there.. (the top number has varied from 125 to 157). I wish you'd talked about how much you can go up or down from 120/80, before worrying about it.. Very interesting video Docs 🎉
If you are using the at-home kits (e.g. Omron, etc), I have found that the first reading is always significantly higher. I just make a note to discard that reading. I record the average of 2 additional readings... each spaced by at least 3-5 min. New guidelines (AHA website) recommends diet and lifestyle modification for 120-139. 140-179 is classified as hypertension stage 2, but even then, unless there are serious co-morbidities, the recommendation remains diet and lifestyle modification first, before medication. The readings should be sustained or trending upward over a long period before medication is initiated. 180 or higher is a hypertensive crisis.

Excess stress, like high BP is bad for our health, what is the stress measure (?) not to exceed? Has stress levels been correlated with BP readings (can I tell when I am stressed by my BP)? My White coat measurements have been high all my life = going to doctors is stressful? Yet watching your videos is not stressful as BP was 120/80, at doctors goes to 155/90+ despite BP medicines treatment.
I have recently been diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and am currently on meds to help control them. My BP has spiked quite high this evening: 200/111 which is NOT good AT ALL but I have had a very stressful day today and continue to be in fight or flight mode with the body. I'm overweight for my height at the moment and am doing some dietary changes and also doing a 5K tomorrow morning, which I'll bet will help with my BP being lowered tomorrow. My doc says if I have: chest pains, shortness of breath or bad headache to head to the ER immediately as these are danger signs of heart attack or stroke. I don't wish for that to happen so I'm going to relax as much as possible this evening and recheck BP in the morning about an hour or so after my meds.
I had been on bp meds since i was 16. After 40 years of various meds, i began a keto diet. Three months later i realized my bp was low. So i discontinued taking the meds. I religiously took my bp 3 times a day. 5 years now on keto, no meds, great bp. By the way; I do nothing to restrict salt, and in fact add salt to every meal. Additionally, 40 years of eczema gone. Night blindness gone. Achy joints gone. Turns out insulin is inflammatory. Reduce insulin and insulin resistance and many ailments tend to disappear.
Yes getting rid of sugar and refined carbs will do this. Add to that processed foods. Meat isn't the cure. But sugar and refined carbs are toxic for sure. Congrats

More ways to lower BP after changing to plant-based eating: 2-3 cups hibiscus tea a day, 30 IMST breaths a day, 5-10 minutes isometric exercises a day such as 2 minutes against the wall squats, 1-2 minute planks, 2 minutes hand grip at 30% effort each hand with 2 minutes rest between, 1 tablespoon flax meal in 1 glass water once a day, 20 minutes Resperate breathing 3-5 times a week, eat a handful of walnuts a day. All of these are evidence based ways to lower BP.
I am so lucky. My blood pressure is always below 20. I was in hospital and it went up to 22.,the nurse was Amazed !!!My secret is Im always on the move. During the day,I only sit down to eat. Then at 7.00 evening I rest. I have a home tester. I take my reading every Sunday. Keep busy is the answer 😂

Great video thank you! Bought a BP monitor about a week ago as using a friends I learned I have high BP. With no family doctor (live in Ontario) I have begun making lifestyle changes and will continue to monitor. Encouraging to know that even reducing my #'s by 5 has a significant positive impact as I begin this journey :)
From Ontario also but I am fortunate to have a Dr. Our family Dr retired end of Dec 2023. We had been his patients for over 25 years but I think he was tired of all the govn't BS. Luckily our medical clinic found a young Dr to replace him. The sad part is the Ontario govn't now for OUR CONVENIENCE has made beer, wine and coolers available in corner stores but our health care is in shambles. I had a hypertension event and the paramedics arrived and measured my bp and then used my wrist monitor and the measurements were the same. In other words, the wrist monitor was accurate! Btw my readings were 205/95. At emergency I had time to calm down from a very stressful event and my readings were under 130/80. So stress has definitely affected me over the years.

Yes, I am certain it is genetic! I was diagnosed at 26, when I weighed 118 pounds. I am on 6 meds, in my 70’s, and STILL struggling with it. All my family, the same.

I finally convinced my PCP that instead of trying various antidepressants (which never worked) to increase my Xanax dose. They REALLY don’t want to do it - but I told him, “look - I am the patient that these drugs were designed for!” I am not going to become some crackhead or pothead!
I love your youtube video's as they are always so informative and lighthearted about serious issues. I am nearly 60 years of age and I have had issues with high blood pressure since I was 50. I have done regular exercise my whole life (cycle ride and race my road bike, mountain bike occasionally, ski, do pilates, hiking to name a few). The only time I don't exercise is if I am unwell. I changed my diet at age 50 to eat way more plant based, reduced alcohol (I now barely drink any alcohol) coffee, sugar etc. I am also well within a healthy weight range. For a while my blood pressure came down but as I have got older it slowly crept up again. I have had to resort to medication in the last few years as nothing I was doing was helping even though I tried so hard to bring it down without medication. I was very frustrated that I could not bring it down by making life style changes. I take my blood pressure regularly at home which gives me peace of mind as I did get a lot of anxiety when my blood pressure was taken by a doctor. I maintain all the life style changes I made 9 years ago and now take medication as well. My blood pressure is low and stable for which I am very grateful. I'd love a video on the pro's and con's of medication. Thank you.
I am 74, and my doctor says he wants my BP to be in the low 130s. 1 have been in the 140s, so I added 4 T of flaxseedmeal to my food, and now it is in the 130s. I am, however, going to look into beet juice and work on getting more exercise. Nice video! Great cardiologist!
My mother's BP was 152/90, just 2 months ago. I bought her a BP monitor, had her decrease her salt intake, start taking magnesium glycinate and pickled beets daily and now her BP is 122/76 on average. YMWV.

I’m 65 and just found out my blood pressure was 180/95. I freaked OUT!! I had no idea. I eat healthy don’t salt my food and am at healthy weight so I ask myself how on earth did this happen. I teach 3, 4 and five-year-olds at a preschool for the last 10 years. And on the weekends I’ve been building a house with my boyfriend just him and I. I’m pretty sure that I am stressed to the max and it is now affecting my blood pressure and I have no idea how long this is been going on because I never get sick so therefore I never knew it was high. They put me on blood pressure medicine immediately, but that very day I started researching everything I could find about blood pressure and realize that. I need to work off the stress. Not work harder, but relax more and go walk it off or do exercise and breathing. I pray to God that it’s not too late. Sleep is also been a problem for me. I never feel like I’ve gotten a good nights sleep and I always wake up tired. I kept attributing it to just getting older but now I’m thinking it’s something else.
@@bwiseok I wonder if high blood pressure is due to a lack of a good nights sleep. About a month ago I lost a few family members back to back, the grief brought on sleepless nights. My blood pressure has always been normal range I was shocked to see it had gone up as it's never happened before. The only changes I had made were not getting enough sleep. I worked on trying to get a better sleep , the outcome my next reading was back to normal. I have a few friends with Apnea and noticed they have high blood pressure too. Which again has to do with sleeping patterns.
Great video! I monitor my blood pressure regularly, but I use the wrist device. When I took it into the doctor's office to check the calibration they said it was pretty accurate. Can I ask why you say not to use the wrist (vs. arm) cuff? Thanks.
Dr. told me he was putting me on insulin. (Type 2) freaked me out. I'm 60. My job was killing me. Work on ships, horrible diet, horrible sleep patterns, stress through the roof. Retired, stopped eating processed food, gave up alcohol, gave up smoking. Working on it since 3rd week of Dec/23 but for a nice demarcation line I'm using New Years. BP 138/88 at start dropping to 116/74 today. (Jan 6th) Exercising light for now. Lost 10lbs. Long story short, by keeping a daily record, I have proven beyond a doubt to myself that in one month the improvement in overall health is dramatic. So to those on the fence it's doable, it's provable, and it's durable. You just have to want it bad enough.
Also many people are falsely diagnosed with hypertension due to incorrect measurement. Waiting rooms are noisy and crowded. I won’t get my pressure checked with a rude medical assistant or a noisy wait or both. If you’re see in the afternoon you have coffee and food and stress.
I was on 320mg losartan for a couple years with bp in the 180 range with as high as 205. My bp remained around the same going not lower than the 160ish range at the minimum. I was having really bad anxiety when my bp went through the roof. Once I started vigorously doing cardio and weightlifting my bp dropped to the 120 range (less than 1 month) and had to stop taking my meds. During the time I started working out I started taking whey protein isolate and have been taking it every day ever since.
My mother died of a massive stroke at 35. I held a good pressure until I was in my 40's. I ran, ate pretty healthy, didn't smoke , only drank wine socially (about 1 glass every week or so), plus at a healthyweight. But still had to go on high blood pressure medications. I run between 140/68 to 130/60. I do have stress and the thought of meditation stresses me out! 😊 Thanks mom!
I've recently been diagnosed with hypertension, I now take Ramipril 2.5mg at night. I have completely overhauled my diet, everything is wholegrain and am working on increasing my exercise. Salt was my guilty pleasure but I don't buy it anymore so cannot add it. My BP is now 120/78. I have an automatic BP machine and kept a diary which I was able to scan and email to my GP.
Canada? As an American, I would like to hear your honest take on what's wrong with the US health insurance and hospital/pharma system. Would like to see more mainstream US physicians do panel talks like this.
It's hard for us to comment because there are so many variations of health care for you guys depending on your age, work insurance etc. our main issue is that everyone doesn't have equal access. And even worse some people seem to have no access. We feel strongly that no one should go bankrupt because they are sick or in an accident. So we pay more taxes than you guys to make that a reality. Don't be mistaken though our system is in trouble due to the aging population and simply not enough money so we likely need some type of hybrid. See what happens
The Canadian system doesn’t give elders enough rehabilitation time after hip and knee replacement like we get on Medicare + addiction insurance. I know this because 1/2 my family lives in Canada and they only received 6 sessions of rehabilitation after replacement surgery!!! Also you have to wait longer to receive a shoulder surgery when younger; my nephew injured his rotator cuff, he wanted surgery right away so he could continue to work, instead they put him on workers comp and he had to wait almost 2 years for his surgery!!! That’s not good!! Same as the National Healthcare in England. We lived over there for 3 years. It was not good health care. I paid privately to get certain female tests as I had been pre-cancerous before going there. No, I like our health care better here. I will pay higher taxes so everyone can have health care. BUT I never want National healthcare ever!!!

My husband is 74 years old soon to be 75 and he does not have high blood pressure. He has a lot of salt on his food. He is constantly moving around doing different things. Do you contribute that to him not having high blood pressure?
My doctor told me that I have White Coat Syndrome. My blood pressure is always good at home but high in the doctors office. Before I visit him I do a weeks worth of tests, so he has an idea of my BP.
But if I heard right they said the pump up way of taking BP in Dr's office is not the best. That's what mine uses. I do take mine at home and I am always good but I am on medication.

Thanks Docs! I just found your channel and I love your videos! High blood pressure runs in my family so I am a little worried that I will eventually get it. I mostly do all of these things you mentioned but probably can eat a bit better. I eat out quite often. I had a reading done at my doctors recently and it was 121/79. They said that it is normal and I hope they are right about that. Because it runs in my family, how likely is it that I will get this high blood pressure eventually?
A very informative video with so many questions answered! I have figured out how to lower my blood pressure! My blood pressure has always been at it's highest when I'm in a doctor's office! I have severe white coat syndrome and every time they take my blood pressure, it's dangerously high. So the best way to keep it down is to not go to the doctor!😋 Even as a young adult my blood pressure was high in the doctor's office. He had me take it at home and write it down and bring in the list the next visit. I also took in the machine I used at home. The doctor found it hard to believe my readings at home since it was a big difference. But when I brought my machine from home and checked the reading on it and on the office machine too, the readings were the same! I've never been a big salter. If anything, I salt less than most people. But that's the first thing they ask when they see my blood pressure and it's clearly not a factor for me. I haven't had alcohol for decades. Never cared much for it anyway (except in my 20's). There are many things that can be done to lower blood pressure and people need to find what works for them. When Dr Zalzal was talking about the grisly bear diet, I was wondering how he was going to work chicken wings in to it!😉 You've given us very good ways to lower blood pressure! And this is a good time to begin a lifestyle change for more than just a diet! I've been seeing my current doctor for about 5 years now. About a year ago I was in her office and my blood pressure was 106/62. So it took 4 years of seeing her to get my blood pressure at a good number in her office! And I have other doctors I've seen longer and my blood pressure is still high in theirs. But the doctors are actually believing me when I keep track of my reading at home. I've had high blood pressure in the past but with diet and new medication I have been able to get it down to a more reasonable level. i have a heart condition so I had to get it down I started at 190 + and I'm now in the 120's most of the time
That's about like I am now..the 160s-200s which isn't good AT ALL. I am taking my meds as perscribed and still don't feel like they are having much an effect.
Hi guys, love your videos! I've got a ton of questions for you. The first,I understand that a blood pressure reading of 120 over 80, is for a young person of 18 years old, and that older peoples measurements will raise somewhat, beacuse the ateries, and veins, are not so pliable? Could you make a video explining the maximum 'safe' level for people, over 40, 50, 60, and 70 years old. The second question is, when taking your own blood pressure at home (what you recommend), what are the protocols ie; sit upright, laid back, is your hand placed on a table, back of wrist facing up, feet flat on the floor, and do you wait 10 minutes on your own, in a quite room, with no tv, no music, distractions etc. The third question is; Do you take at least 3 readings, and have at least 5 minutes rest before re-inflating, as to me you have to wait for the arm to de-stress, going back to normal? The fourth question, and maybe it's a pre-requisite, for looking after your blood pressure, with regards to your eyesight, as I believe that I have damaged my macula ( now I've been diagnosed with macula degeneration), due to undiagnosed hypertension. I do know that each person has over 60 thousand miles of veins and arteries in their bodies, and also know that the human eye must have a highly concetrated amount of veins, and that if the body's blood pressure is too high, then, because of the eyes fragile, tiny capilliaries, they could be a vital sign, with regsards to distorted vision, sight degeneration, could be an initial sign of blood pressure damage occuring. please could you give me some insights, not just for me, but to the many millions of people out there. I eat a mainly vegetarian diet for years, and I used to run or row at least 3 times a week. Two glasses of wine a month. I take my blood pressure and pulse rate every day. Mine is 107/69. Pulse rate 49. I will be 73 soon.
I've tried magnesium oil for my restless legs and found it lowered my blood pressure to a point where I had to stop. I don't struggle with high blood pressure, but I remember thinking it could be very helpful for someone who struggles with high blood pressure.
My BP was 172/125. I water only fasted 4 months, lost 112 lbs and took up and maintain intense daily cardio and weight lifting. My BP is now 105/73 avg. No pills. My cardiologist says he's have to look for work if all his patients did this.

My BP was normal to slightly lower for 53 years. 4 weeks post JJ cov vax I was taken to ER after passing out with 215/110. My immune system was attacking every part of my body. I knew it was from cov vax and when I went to cardiologist he said to watch my salt intake. At the ER my ecg also showed anterior infarction however records hushed about relation to vaccine. 1 year post BP finally back to normal although my health has been destroyed by autoimmune phenomenon. Elephant in the room is only now starting to be discussed.
This Canadian in UK recently diagnosed with HBP loves hearing our Canadian doctors giving me very good advice. Love that Canada Health says 2 drinks a week. In the UK? 6 pints of beer or 12 glasses of wine a week! Appalling. No wonder the UK has the reputation it does with alcohol. Wish I could have my Canadian doctors back.
Glad to hear you are doing ok. It wasn't long ago Canadian recommendations for alcohol were the same. It's a work in progress and lots of resistance to change
My blood pressure monitor has a phone app where I can upload my blood pressure and pulse readings. My cardiologist had not seen that before and was impressed to be able to see the history of my blood pressure readings at home. Kinda helps when the office pressure is higher that it usually is at home.
Ok, how about a discussion about BP once you're on meds. 120/80 may be the goal, but what are your thoughts when meds bring it to 100/65? Also, a discussion about EIH would be valuable. How it's diagnosed and the challenges to treat it.
@@TalkingWithDocscan you advice why BP is rising a lot from laying in bed, to sitting on side of bed and then to standing. I’m on 2x 90mg tildiem ccb and 5mg ACE ramipril. BP Shoots up a lot when upright and sits in around the 90s when remaining upright and will generally lower when I’ve gone to bed for a while. Im very worried. My GP don’t know why it’s rising lots on standing. I will be going back tomoz to try to get some answers
I'm diabetic have 3 stents ,I am 67 yrs . Live in miami..I am on losarten 75 mg....started playing tennis every 3 rd day and definitely my BP dropped from 160 / 100 to 130/ 85......also lemon water helped.. .in a warm glass of water I put 1/2 lemon juice.
Have been taking bloodpressure tablets for over 10 years and systolic is just not coming down, average is 155 - Diastolic is average 82 and if I increase dosage of tablets it makes the diastolic too low which makes me dizzy and in danger of falling over! I am doing all you said in your video!
What are your thoughts on mouth taping? Are you familiar with this? My wife did this and her pressures went down to low normal after taping for 4 nights. She had to stop her prescribed high blood pressure medication because her pressure was too low. She's now off medication, and mouth taping every night
I have been mouth taping for dry mouth syndrome every night for the past five years. It certainly cures the dry mouth but apparently (for me) has no effect on my BP which even with medication is still "Sky high" BTW I am 80 next year don't drink or smoke and am reasonably fit and active for my age. There seems to be no silver bullet for this problem. Stress would seem to be a significant contributor however continually checking my BP seems to stress me out !
I ran/jogged at least 15 km per week for years (3 runs), bicycle everywhere, have a huge garden etc etc. I was always considered the most active 60+ woman known to mankind. I don’t eat salty food, I don’t eat ANY fast food, drink no more than 1 glass of wine per day, I eat little meat, lots of fish, lots of fruit & veggies (much from my garden), have a normal weight, never smoked - and my blood pressure was too high for years as was my cholesterol. Then I had a small stroke last year, I was SO fortunate because I have no lasting effects. Oh and I have a blissful life, happy marriage etc. no stress. So now I’m on blood thinners, cholesterol and blood pressure medication. My only consolation was the doctor who said “if you didn’t have this fabulous life style, this would have happened to you years ago and would probably have been worse. But just to recognize that it’s not always life style, there are people who are genetically predisposed - me!
The fittest guy I knew, who ate a perfect diet, etc etc, had a massive stroke a few years ago, and now he is seriously incapacitated, so it goes to show, the most important thing is regularly checking your blood pressure, imho,,

That is the problem you're eating a lot of fruits and vegetables we've been lied to go to a carnivore or high protein diet meat does not kill you. It is what human beings are supposed to eat. The government lies to us so they can throw medicine at us refer to Dr. Stan Eckberg, but most importantly to others on UA-cam, Dr. Berry. Dr. ANTHONY CHAFFEE. They will tell you what you're supposed to eat and you will see in a remarkable difference in your blood pressure. I used to have the same diet as you I was 240 pounds. I went just about complete carnivore lost 40 pounds in my blood pressure medicine are thrown away.
I agree with you, however, it could be argued that 1 glass of wine per day, everyday, is excessive. I would be curious if cutting that out all together would have any impact? Myself personally, I have a very noticeable impact on my blood pressure when I exercise regularly.

I had high blood pressure for many years. I was diagnosed in 1999 I was prescribed blood pressure medication, which I took for 23 years. Now I don't have it, and the cure was potassium. I started taking it two months ago. High blood pressure is gone, the solution about 2500mg potassium a day. I feel like amazing. Potassium sources are coconut water and anything that contains potassium vegetables and supplements.
I have severe hypertension was at stroke level 4. They said I have low potassium. Pit me on BP meds but not potassium.

Good for you. I smoked for over 30 years and have now quit for over 24 years. My doctor said, once I've passed the 20 year smoke free mark (without incident) It's as if I never smoked before. You can do it. No matter how hard it is, keep telling yourself, you are now an "ex" smoker, no matter difficult it is. The difficulty doesn't last. I also quit drinking 5 months ago. I bike ride 30 miles, 3 times a week. I'm 73.
Congrats to you two! I learned to smoke as an 18-yr-old because I thought it was attractive, until I was panting just going up two flights of stairs. I quit at age 28. Since then, I have come to find people who smoke as unattractive, smelly, insecure, nicotine-addicted people whom I have no sympathy for. I am 70 now.
And btw, I always tell friends, who say they cannot stop smoking, how ill it will make them. When they come up with an excuse, I say “well it’s up to you, but remember I cared enough to advise you against it.” 😊
Your sleep will tell you what else you need to focus on. Stress and anxiety is the greatest disruptor to the metabolism; as much or more so than diet. I have a GED from a not very credible school for adults. I’m belligerent and a pain in the ace to authority and very unsuccessful financially, but I know this.

As a retired nurse, I know all these recommendations for lowering B/P. I have a cat and have read that petting a cat lowers B/P. I think I will experiment to see how much laughter lowers it as well. Thanks docs!!! We need this kind of patient education!!

Age 78. 18 months ago BP was 150-160 range, depending what I ate. My GP wanted to put me on medication. I refused.Now I read labels for salt content. Pretty much stopped eating in restaurants. I keep my salt intake at 1500mg or less. I exercise at least 90 minutes/day everyday. I quit eating most canned food. I east less food. and lost 15 lbs. Bp is now at 130/70.

I relate. My diet has always been great with one big no no. I ate lots of pretzels, salted nuts and popcorn. I have just stopped all of that. I am 5’4 , 116 lbs and 75. Just started a homeopathic medication for BP and am riding a bike every day. Today it was 130/58
Awesome. I listen to several doctors on UA-cam and all of them say most problems like BP and Diabetes can be solved with diet and exercise but most people would rather take a pill which in my opinion is just a bandaid. Eventually they succumb to the illness so medication is a last resort.

My grandpa drank 2 to 3 beers almost every day of his life, starting at about the age of 16. Was thin all of his life, never had hbp or diabetes and lived to be 93. Yes, he did smoke ciggies (light to moderate) until his 60's, but then gave them up on the advice of his doctor. A couple of things I remember vividly about gramps was --- he was always active, right into his 80's, bowling, golfing, fishing, doing things around the house, he was always up and moving. No. 2: He ate a lot of garlic, often raw but cooked into meals that grandma would make. He used to eat a lot of canned fish items like mackerel, sardines, tuna, kippers, often just for snacks. For a snack, he would have a tin of sardines and a shot of cold vodka from the fridge, one of his favorites. Ate lots of cabbage and kraut. He loved clams -- steamed or raw. When younger, he would go fishing (jersey shore), blues, flounder, whiting, etc... then go home clean, cook and eat his catch, usually fried in a cast iron pan with LOTS of butter. We always said he would've hit 100 if he didn't smoke all those years. I think because he was always active and eating things like garlic, eggs, kraut and fish regularly, the alcohol didn't have the impact as say, some in their senior years who didn't move around much, no exercise, and eating a bad diet including sugar and snacks. Grandma lived to be 97, btw. That's my 0.02cents, but I think there's something to it.

Genetics are 99% more important, my Dad died at 71drunk and smoked, my Grandad 74 didnt drink and smoke, I don't expect to live into my 80's no matter what I do

Your comments about in office test not always being correct really helped me with my anxiety toward BP. I seem to always feel enough anxiety at doctors visits to put me into the mid to high 130's. I am 54, I eat almost to a fault exactly what you are are supposed to. Zero processed food, zero alcohol, never smoked, plus I do 4 hrs of low intensity and 1 hour of max intensity cardio a week and two to three strength workouts on top of it. I should have perfect BP.... I bought a home cuff machine and low and behold after recording my BP in the morning and evening every day for a month my average was 116/73! Takeaway is that I need to learn to relax better before the office visits and have started practicing breathing techniques etc.
My BP was about 130/86 until I decide to lose some weight through diet and exercise. 25 lbs lighter and more fit, I'm at 115/74.

I had relative high blood pressure for a while due to untreated sleep apnea. After I started sleeping with a CPAP machine my systolic and diastolic values both went down by roughly 25 to get me a little under 120/80. I’ve since started exercising and have lowered a little more. My wife is very happy with those two life choices.
My doctor told me that my sleep apena results were severe .. I stop breathing to the point that I sometimes wake up with vomit in my mouth. I have had a brand new " Dream Machine" beside my bed for 4 years and hove not turned it on once ... I don't know why, I find it a " bother" ... dam eh. I sleep in my lazyboy, so I don't even get to turn on my side...my blood pressure is high so now I have to take 4 pills a day., I'm 64 years old and stopped working a year ago, so now I don't even leave the house to exercise ... tell me my days are numbered .... scare me please.
@@TYRONE_SHOELACES Sleep apnea can cause left ventricular hypertrophy which can lead to heart failure. It didn’t end up with heart failure in my case but the doctor said that’s where I was headed if I didn’t make some significant changes.
Regular exercise really helps your health.

A pulse of 48 is not that healthy. Sign of a slow metabolism.
Essential hypertension is primarily driven by high levels of insulin and insulin resistance. If you cut out sugar, and refined carbs, it will most certainly lower your BP substantially.

5 years ago was at 140/100. took 3 different meds to get it down to a reasonable level. 2 years ago I started walking, eating less, and eating much more healthy. I'm now at 80/50 to 90/60 and off all three meds (weaned oof of them over a year) with no symptoms associated with low blood pressure. During the "bad" time I ate all the time, ate a ton, and ate everything bad for me. Pizza and burgers everyday (literally) and lots of candy all the time. I was at 300, and after 2 years at 200

I always had slightly low or normal blood pressure until I had severe arthritis pain in my hip. Then my blood pressure stayed elevated. A few weeks after surgery for THR it went back down to normal. My conclusion is blood pressure elevation can be a sign of inflammation somewhere in the body. Glad for the new hip and normal blood pressure!
I was exactly the same after hip replacement, and again after knee surgery ! Straight back to excellent blood pressure measurements. Great.

Thank you, guys, for taking the time to discuss this medical topic. I am taking losarton potassium 100 mcg tablet daily before bedtime just over 2 years now. It's 930am now. I just came back from a quick trail15 minute walk. My blood pressure is 112/68/66. Im taking lasarton because of extensive head and neck surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation to remove cancers, which started on February 16, 2016. So, last couple years ago despite diet and exercise I developed high blood pressure. I am doing well despite cancer returning. ❤

Sugar and excessive carbohydrate consumption causes hbp and insulin resistance along with metabolic syndrome. To lower BP you want to eat foods rich in nitrates such as spinach and beets and other foods as well. You guys are a bunch of rookies 😂

this reminds me of the time when I was in my 40’s…. wanted to buy life insurance. They said that I need to come to their clinic so that they can check my vital signs. That afternoon, I got stuck in traffic so long then struggled to find the place and parking, ran into the clinic since late…. blood pressure was almost 173…. of course fail no life insurance test so bad 😂😂😂😂. My normal good pressures mostly very good.

All great advice. At 82 I am blessed with good health physically and mentally. Being a vegan is probably a big plus. I do however, take medication to lower my BP. There always seems to be something that hijacks our wellbeing. For me it is anxiety. No matter how I try there are burgeoning numbers of reasons that cause worry and frustration. I do have a dog though, and she does comfort me as I hope I do her as well. We all have an expiration date, and none of us will get past that no matter how we try.

Not to mention age has a lot to do with. Our vessels shrink so OUR heart has to work harder. Most older adults should be on a low dose bp med if foe no reason than the heart vessels shrink.
I believe that is not an expiration date but a “best by” date.
Well said. An if you still have your teeth check for abcess tooth. They can also raise blood pressure. Any who our blood vessels get narrower as we age.

I started having blood pressure issues 3 years ago. The smallest amount of what one would see as normal day to day stress has my blood pressure go as high as stage 2 or crisis.
But if I’m laying down I have low blood pressure or normal low when I am sitting.
I’m 39 now and am not taken seriously at all about it because I started testing at home. I’m only slightly elevated when they average out the 3 readings after sitting for all three. My doctor said I shouldn’t worry about it even with hundreds of pictures of readings I’m told to find ways to calm myself down as if I’m hysterical when my blood pressure goes that high.
I figure I’ll just have a short life and have come to accept it living here in Canada. Finding Christ has helped me find peace with it.
Just make changes to your lifestyle! Exercise helps a lot and drinking lots of water + eating homemade meals and taking potassium

I absolutely love your videos! I am drinking a quart of hibiscus tea for high blood pressure but my Docs also added to double of meds that I am already on. I’m 65 and after 55 let go of the “rejection of taking medications “. I say, drink the hibiscus tea, do the reduce stress activities but also take the meds! I always learn something when I watch your videos. Thanks for taking your precious time to make them (plus, I think you guys have a blast doing them, eh?
forget drugs; use high doses of vit D, my hubby took 10,000 iu of vit d a day, split into 2 doses, in few days his bp came down 40 points.
I drink hibiscus tea also. I read a meta study that claimed hibiscus is an ACE inhibitor.

was at 200 over 100 in september, through quitting smoking and using vitamins and supplements am down to 140 over 80, cut way down on milk and bread, increased potassium and magnesium.
I measure my blood pressure on the first of every month.. the numbers can vary from month to month, but all the data is there.. (the top number has varied from 125 to 157). I wish you'd talked about how much you can go up or down from 120/80, before worrying about it.. Very interesting video Docs 🎉

It is indeed a good habit to measure your blood pressure frequently.
Measure your blood pressure more frequently than monthly. A systolic reading (upper number) of 157 should be checked by a doctor.
If you are using the at-home kits (e.g. Omron, etc), I have found that the first reading is always significantly higher. I just make a note to discard that reading. I record the average of 2 additional readings... each spaced by at least 3-5 min.
New guidelines (AHA website) recommends diet and lifestyle modification for 120-139. 140-179 is classified as hypertension stage 2, but even then, unless there are serious co-morbidities, the recommendation remains diet and lifestyle modification first, before medication. The readings should be sustained or trending upward over a long period before medication is initiated. 180 or higher is a hypertensive crisis.

Excess stress, like high BP is bad for our health, what is the stress measure (?) not to exceed? Has stress levels been correlated with BP readings (can I tell when I am stressed by my BP)? My White coat measurements have been high all my life = going to doctors is stressful? Yet watching your videos is not stressful as BP was 120/80, at doctors goes to 155/90+ despite BP medicines treatment.
I have recently been diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and am currently on meds to help control them. My BP has spiked quite high this evening: 200/111 which is NOT good AT ALL but I have had a very stressful day today and continue to be in fight or flight mode with the body. I'm overweight for my height at the moment and am doing some dietary changes and also doing a 5K tomorrow morning, which I'll bet will help with my BP being lowered tomorrow. My doc says if I have: chest pains, shortness of breath or bad headache to head to the ER immediately as these are danger signs of heart attack or stroke. I don't wish for that to happen so I'm going to relax as much as possible this evening and recheck BP in the morning about an hour or so after my meds.
I had been on bp meds since i was 16. After 40 years of various meds, i began a keto diet. Three months later i realized my bp was low. So i discontinued taking the meds. I religiously took my bp 3 times a day. 5 years now on keto, no meds, great bp. By the way; I do nothing to restrict salt, and in fact add salt to every meal. Additionally, 40 years of eczema gone. Night blindness gone. Achy joints gone. Turns out insulin is inflammatory. Reduce insulin and insulin resistance and many ailments tend to disappear.
Yes getting rid of sugar and refined carbs will do this. Add to that processed foods. Meat isn't the cure. But sugar and refined carbs are toxic for sure. Congrats

More ways to lower BP after changing to plant-based eating: 2-3 cups hibiscus tea a day, 30 IMST breaths a day, 5-10 minutes isometric exercises a day such as 2 minutes against the wall squats, 1-2 minute planks, 2 minutes hand grip at 30% effort each hand with 2 minutes rest between, 1 tablespoon flax meal in 1 glass water once a day, 20 minutes Resperate breathing 3-5 times a week, eat a handful of walnuts a day. All of these are evidence based ways to lower BP.

I am so lucky. My blood pressure is always below 20. I was in hospital and it went up to 22.,the nurse was Amazed !!!My secret is Im always on the move. During the day,I only sit down to eat. Then at 7.00 evening I rest. I have a home tester. I take my reading every Sunday. Keep busy is the answer 😂

Great video thank you! Bought a BP monitor about a week ago as using a friends I learned I have high BP. With no family doctor (live in Ontario) I have begun making lifestyle changes and will continue to monitor. I had a hypertension event and the paramedics arrived and measured my bp and then used my wrist monitor and the measurements were the same. In other words, the wrist monitor was accurate! Btw my readings were 205/95. At emergency I had time to calm down from a very stressful event and my readings were under 130/80. So stress has definitely affected me over the years.

Yes, I am certain it is genetic! I was diagnosed at 26, when I weighed 118 pounds. I am on 6 meds, in my 70’s, and STILL struggling with it. All my family, the same.

I finally convinced my PCP that instead of trying various antidepressants (which never worked) to increase my Xanax dose. They REALLY don’t want to do it - but I told him, “look - I am the patient that these drugs were designed for!” I am not going to become some crackhead or pothead!
I love your youtube video's as they are always so informative and lighthearted about serious issues. I am nearly 60 years of age and I have had issues with high blood pressure since I was 50. I have done regular exercise my whole life (cycle ride and race my road bike, mountain bike occasionally, ski, do pilates, hiking to name a few). The only time I don't exercise is if I am unwell. I changed my diet at age 50 to eat way more plant based, reduced alcohol (I now barely drink any alcohol) coffee, sugar etc. I am also well within a healthy weight range. For a while my blood pressure came down but as I have got older it slowly crept up again. I have had to resort to medication in the last few years as nothing I was doing was helping even though I tried so hard to bring it down without medication. I was very frustrated that I could not bring it down by making life style changes. I take my blood pressure regularly at home which gives me peace of mind as I did get a lot of anxiety when my blood pressure was taken by a doctor. I maintain all the life style changes I made 9 years ago and now take medication as well. My blood pressure is low and stable for which I am very grateful. I'd love a video on the pro's and con's of medication. Thank you.

I am 74, and my doctor says he wants my BP to be in the low 130s. 1 have been in the 140s, so I added 4 T of flaxseedmeal to my food, and now it is in the 130s. I am, however, going to look into beet juice and work on getting more exercise. Nice video! Great cardiologist!

My mother's BP was 152/90, just 2 months ago. I bought her a BP monitor, had her decrease her salt intake, start taking magnesium glycinate and pickled beets daily and now her BP is 122/76 on average. YMWV.

I’m 65 and just found out my blood pressure was 180/95. I freaked OUT!! I had no idea. I eat healthy don’t salt my food and am at healthy weight so I ask myself how on earth did this happen. I teach 3, 4 and five-year-olds at a preschool for the last 10 years. And on the weekends I’ve been building a house with my boyfriend just him and I. I’m pretty sure that I am stressed to the max and it is now affecting my blood pressure and I have no idea how long this is been going on because I never get sick so therefore I never knew it was high. They put me on blood pressure medicine immediately, but that very day I started researching everything I could find about blood pressure and realize that. I need to work off the stress. Not work harder, but relax more and go walk it off or do exercise and breathing. I pray to God that it’s not too late. Sleep is also been a problem for me. I never feel like I’ve gotten a good nights sleep and I always wake up tired. I kept attributing it to just getting older but now I’m thinking it’s something else.

About a month ago I lost a few family members back to back, the grief brought on sleepless nights. My blood pressure has always been normal range I was shocked to see it had gone up as it's never happened before.
The only changes I had made were not getting enough sleep.
I worked on trying to get a better sleep , the outcome my next reading was back to normal.
I have a few friends with Apnea and noticed they have high blood pressure too. Which again has to do with sleeping patterns.
you might have a thyroid issue. or low estrogen issue. Sleeping issues are a symptom.
You may have sleep apnea. Get checked.

Great video! I monitor my blood pressure regularly, but I use the wrist device. When I took it into the doctor's office to check the calibration they said it was pretty accurate. Can I ask why you say not to use the wrist (vs. arm) cuff? Thanks.
Most of the battery-operated blood pressure machines are worthless and especially the wrist ones. If you had it checked out and it works.. keep it.
Dr. told me he was putting me on insulin. (Type 2) freaked me out. I'm 60. My job was killing me. Work on ships, horrible diet, horrible sleep patterns, stress through the roof. Retired, stopped eating processed food, gave up alcohol, gave up smoking. Working on it since 3rd week of Dec/23 but for a nice demarcation line I'm using New Years. BP 138/88 at start dropping to 116/74 today. (Jan 6th) Exercising light for now. Lost 10lbs. Long story short, by keeping a daily record, I have proven beyond a doubt to myself that in one month the improvement in overall health is dramatic. So to those on the fence it's doable, it's provable, and it's durable. You just have to want it bad enough.
Also many people are falsely diagnosed with hypertension due to incorrect measurement. Waiting rooms are noisy and crowded. I won’t get my pressure checked with a rude medical assistant or a noisy wait or both. If you’re see in the afternoon you have coffee and food and stress.
I was on 320mg losartan for a couple years with bp in the 180 range with as high as 205. My bp remained around the same going not lower than the 160ish range at the minimum. I was having really bad anxiety when my bp went through the roof. Once I started vigorously doing cardio and weightlifting my bp dropped to the 120 range (less than 1 month) and had to stop taking my meds. During the time I started working out I started taking whey protein isolate and have been taking it every day ever since.
Can you tell us more about your cardio routine to lower your blood pressure to that amazing level? I want to replicate it.

My mother died of a massive stroke at 35. I held a good pressure until I was in my 40's. I ran, ate pretty healthy, didn't smoke , only drank wine socially (about 1 glass every week or so), plus at a healthyweight. But still had to go on high blood pressure medications. I run between 140/68 to 130/60. I do have stress and the thought of meditation stresses me out! 😊 Thanks mom!
Meditation can be as simple as spending 10 minutes still and focused on slow deep breathing. It doesn't have to be complicated.
I've recently been diagnosed with hypertension, I now take Ramipril 2.5mg at night. I have completely overhauled my diet, everything is wholegrain and am working on increasing my exercise. Salt was my guilty pleasure but I don't buy it anymore so cannot add it. My BP is now 120/78. I have an automatic BP machine and kept a diary which I was able to scan and email to my GP.

Canada? As an American, I would like to hear your honest take on what's wrong with the US health insurance and hospital/pharma system. Would like to see more mainstream US physicians do panel talks like this.
It's hard for us to comment because there are so many variations of health care for you guys depending on your age, work insurance etc. our main issue is that everyone doesn't have equal access. And even worse some people seem to have no access. We feel strongly that no one should go bankrupt because they are sick or in an accident. So we pay more taxes than you guys to make that a reality. Don't be mistaken though our system is in trouble due to the aging population and simply not enough money so we likely need some type of hybrid. See what happens
The Canadian system doesn’t give elders enough rehabilitation time after hip and knee replacement like we get on Medicare + addiction insurance. I know this because 1/2 my family lives in Canada and they only received 6 sessions of rehabilitation after replacement surgery!!! Also you have to wait longer to receive a shoulder surgery when younger; my nephew injured his rotator cuff, he wanted surgery right away so he could continue to work, instead they put him on workers comp and he had to wait almost 2 years for his surgery!!! That’s not good!! Same as the National Healthcare in England. We lived over there for 3 years. It was not good health care. I paid privately to get certain female tests as I had been pre-cancerous before going there. No, I like our health care better here. I will pay higher taxes so everyone can have health care. BUT I never want National healthcare ever!!!

My doctor told me that I have White Coat Syndrome. My blood pressure is always good at home but high in the doctors office. Before I visit him I do a weeks worth of tests, so he has an idea of my BP.

Thanks Docs! I just found your channel and I love your videos! High blood pressure runs in my family so I am a little worried that I will eventually get it. I mostly do all of these things you mentioned but probably can eat a bit better. I eat out quite often. I had a reading done at my doctors recently and it was 121/79. They said that it is normal and I hope they are right about that. Because it runs in my family, how likely is it that I will get this high blood pressure eventually?
Not guaranteed but possible. Eat more real food and not takeout to start. Too much salt!

I have figured out how to lower my blood pressure! My blood pressure has always been at it's highest when I'm in a doctor's office!
I have severe white coat syndrome and every time they take my blood pressure, it's dangerously high. So the best way to keep it down is to not go to the doctor!😋
Even as a young adult my blood pressure was high in the doctor's office. He had me take it at home and write it down and bring in the list the next visit. I also took in the machine I used at home.
The doctor found it hard to believe my readings at home since it was a big difference. But when I brought my machine from home and checked the reading on it and on the office machine too, the readings were the same!
I've never been a big salter. If anything, I salt less than most people. But that's the first thing they ask when they see my blood pressure and it's clearly not a factor for me.
I haven't had alcohol for decades. Never cared much for it anyway (except in my 20's).
There are many things that can be done to lower blood pressure and people need to find what works for them.

I've been seeing my current doctor for about 5 years now. About a year ago I was in her office and my blood pressure was 106/62. So it took 4 years of seeing her to get my blood pressure at a good number in her office! And I have other doctors I've seen longer and my blood pressure is still high in theirs.
But the doctors are actually believing me when I keep track of my reading at home.

Hi guys, love your videos! I've got a ton of questions for you. The first,I understand that a blood pressure reading of 120 over 80, is for a young person of 18 years old, and that older peoples measurements will raise somewhat, beacuse the ateries, and veins, are not so pliable? Could you make a video explining the maximum 'safe' level for people, over 40, 50, 60, and 70 years old. The second question is, when taking your own blood pressure at home (what you recommend), what are the protocols ie; sit upright, laid back, is your hand placed on a table, back of wrist facing up, feet flat on the floor, and do you wait 10 minutes on your own, in a quite room, with no tv, no music, distractions etc. The third question is; Do you take at least 3 readings, and have at least 5 minutes rest before re-inflating, as to me you have to wait for the arm to de-stress, going back to normal? The fourth question, and maybe it's a pre-requisite, for looking after your blood pressure, with regards to your eyesight, as I believe that I have damaged my macula ( now I've been diagnosed with macula degeneration), due to undiagnosed hypertension. I do know that each person has over 60 thousand miles of veins and arteries in their bodies, and also know that the human eye must have a highly concetrated amount of veins, and that if the body's blood pressure is too high, then, because of the eyes fragile, tiny capilliaries, they could be a vital sign, with regsards to distorted vision, sight degeneration, could be an initial sign of blood pressure damage occuring. please could you give me some insights, not just for me, but to the many millions of people out there. Yea really wish to know the dafe level for people around 40. I'm 42 and my bp is around 135/96 since the year 2000. Have seen a doc he said i should exercise more and avoid whisky

I eat a mainly vegetarian diet for years, and I used to run or row at least 3 times a week. Two glasses of wine a month. I take my blood pressure and pulse rate every day. Mine is 107/69. Pulse rate 49. I will be 73 soon.
49 is not all that healthy. It's an indication of slow metabolism. A higher heart leads to a longer life.

I've tried magnesium oil for my restless legs and found it lowered my blood pressure to a point where I had to stop. I don't struggle with high blood pressure, but I remember thinking it could be very helpful for someone who struggles with high blood pressure.

My BP was 172/125. I water only fasted 4 months, lost 112 lbs and took up and maintain intense daily cardio and weight lifting. My BP is now 105/73 avg. No pills. My cardiologist says he's have to look for work if all his patients did this.
Thanks for the video! In the doctor's office, 160/110 at home in the morning,g 150/90. High normal?! Resting heart rate 50 - 60. My GP is having me record BP over the next week, 2*day, for an overall average.
More accurate would be to use a 24-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) system. More accurate readings. Google it.

My BP was normal to slightly lower for 53 years. 4 weeks post JJ cov vax I was taken to ER after passing out with 215/110. My immune system was attacking every part of my body. I knew it was from cov vax and when I went to cardiologist he said to watch my salt intake. At the ER my ecg also showed anterior infarction however records hushed about relation to vaccine. 1 year post BP finally back to normal although my health has been destroyed by autoimmune phenomenon. Elephant in the room is only now starting to be discussed.

This Canadian in UK recently diagnosed with HBP loves hearing our Canadian doctors giving me very good advice. Love that Canada Health says 2 drinks a week. In the UK? 6 pints of beer or 12 glasses of wine a week! Appalling. No wonder the UK has the reputation it does with alcohol. Wish I could have my Canadian doctors back.
Glad to hear you are doing ok. It wasn't long ago Canadian recommendations for alcohol were the same. It's a work in progress and lots of resistance to change
My blood pressure monitor has a phone app where I can upload my blood pressure and pulse readings. My cardiologist had not seen that before and was impressed to be able to see the history of my blood pressure readings at home. Kinda helps when the office pressure is higher that it usually is at home.

Ok, how about a discussion about BP once you're on meds. 120/80 may be the goal, but what are your thoughts when meds bring it to 100/65? Also, a discussion about EIH would be valuable. How it's diagnosed and the challenges to treat it.
So that number is ok. Lower is better. As long as you don't have any negative effects like dizziness or fainting

@@TalkingWithDocscan you advice why BP is rising a lot from laying in bed, to sitting on side of bed and then to standing. I’m on 2x 90mg tildiem ccb and 5mg ACE ramipril. BP Shoots up a lot when upright and sits in around the 90s when remaining upright and will generally lower when I’ve gone to bed for a while. Im very worried. My GP don’t know why it’s rising lots on standing. I will be going back tomoz to try to get some answers
I'm diabetic have 3 stents ,I am 67 yrs . Live in miami..I am on losarten 75 mg....started playing tennis every 3 rd day and definitely my BP dropped from 160 / 100 to 130/ 85......also lemon water helped.. .in a warm glass of water I put 1/2 lemon juice.

Have been taking bloodpressure tablets for over 10 years and systolic is just not coming down, average is 155 - Diastolic is average 82 and if I increase dosage of tablets it makes the diastolic too low which makes me dizzy and in danger of falling over! I am doing all you said in your video!

What are your thoughts on mouth taping? Are you familiar with this? My wife did this and her pressures went down to low normal after taping for 4 nights. She had to stop her prescribed high blood pressure medication because her pressure was too low. She's now off medication, and mouth taping every night

I have been mouth taping for dry mouth syndrome every night for the past five years. It certainly cures the dry mouth but apparently (for me) has no effect on my BP which even with medication is still "Sky high" BTW I am 80 next year don't drink or smoke and am reasonably fit and active for my age. There seems to be no silver bullet for this problem. Stress would seem to be a significant contributor however continually checking my BP seems to stress me out !
