Cemu deserves an S-tier rating. It is easy to use and runs smoothly on my low-end potato PC. It's the easiest emulator to set up and use. The only downside is that the Wii U has few games and exclusives.

PPSSPP is definitely one of the BEST and most stable emulators out there But most emulators are best ran on PC with controller (except for DS and GB which are better on phone)
Duckstation literally changed EVERYTHING that we thought was possible for ps1 emulation....there's soo many emulators I play....pcsx2, dolphin, rpcs3, xenia....what we need is a better version of xemu
I agree, even Xenia with Xenia Manager offers a great experience, but Xemu is a pain in the nut, but to be clear, Rallisport Challenge and Buffy on xemu are near perfect!
For NDS I would put DeSmuME in B tier and MelonDS in A or even S tier. MelonDS already has outstanding compatibility, plus MelonDS' upscaling in leagues better than what DeSmuME could ever hope for as it currently is. MelonDS utilizes the GPU which make upscaling very easy and lite even on moderate hardware, meanwhile DeSmuME uses on the CPU which means upscaling can and will cause lag even the most powerful CPUs on the market. Also Citra got robbed. On PC it's practically perfect for 99% of games with great upscaling and an easy setup. As for N64 I think that you should look at more projects outside of RetroArch. simple64 for example is outstanding. As the name implies it's as simple as can be and it practically plug and play, it's an easy contender for an S tier as well, it also has some of the best online utility that you could ask for in an emulator. Also the standalone version of Mupen64 is far ahead of the RetroArch version and with the RMG frontend is also S tier worthy.
no, MelonDS lacks a lot of feature like shaders and texture filtering, also it cant upscale some games like Golden Sun DD; its only upside over DeSmuME is that it is lighter and has DSi support; I can understant putting it higher for that reason, but never in S tier.
@Bajolzas I preferred to place emulators that are noob-friendly in tier S, so that anyone can have fun without spending time on long setup videos to configure the emulator properly. I only placed CEMU in tier A due to a lack of recent updates.
I'd say N64 emulators are still really far behind. They still rely on outdated plugin systems, have a lot of limitations that become apparent when talking about mods or textures and still can't interpolate frames. Yes, it does the job and it's certainly playable, but it's still neither perfectly accurate nor good at enhancing the console's titles. As recompilation is starting to take off, I imagine N64 emulation will just become obsolete
@snootyink809 The already decompiled N64 games, along with the ability to configure the camera with the right analog stick, bring significant quality of life improvements, as well as other features such as texture packs and increased FPS-things that only decompilation can provide us.
PCSX2 and Dolphin are the actual GOATs, the Michael Jordan and Lebron James of emulators. It took PCSX2 especially so many years to get where they are, but those years have been so incredibly worth it. Three entire console libraries with absurd amounts of variety and novelty available on pretty much any device with decent horsepower is so incredible.
Sadly pcsx2 is full of problems, like rendering for some games will just break for weeks with no fix, they removed Async mix for no reason even though loads of people used it and the devs are kinda just generally rude
@@solosapnation ofc there's fixes but some games have major problems that render them unplayable when they were fine 1 update ago. They removed Async mix which was incredibly useful for slower games so you could run them faster and have the audio remain the same speed, when people complained they said "well you shouldn't have been using that anyway" They told p3fes modders they wouldn't fix certain bugs (they did it anyway but still) because "this is PS2 emulator not the p3fes emulator"
@@KatelynS0209 that just sounds more like they don't like being demanded shit. they'll do it when they get around to it. make them aware of an issue but don't badger them about it and things'll be a lot healthier. respecting boundaries is important. remember, these devs are doing it for free, it's volunteer work. be respectful and be grateful.
I can run Gears of war 1/2/3 and judgment, Spiderman web of shadows, Naruto rise of ninja and broken Bond, NBA homecourt, fifa Street 3, fist of the North star 2 ken's range, DBZ Burst limit and asura's wrath quite well, and I have an old pc (Xenon 1270 V2 and rx550 4gb)
I find it about on par with RPCS3 in terms of compatibility and both run equally well on my Legion Go handheld. If I can't run a game on one I can often run it or run it better on the other.
I think it's unfair to rank Bizhawk D only taking into consideration its Saturn Emulation, since Bizhawk is not a "saturn-only" emulator, but a multisystem emulator and a nice libretro front-end with a traditional mousecentric GUI and its actually pretty good at emulating other systems like N64, SNES, Turbografx16, Sega Genesis, 32x, Sega Master System, Game Gear, NES, Colecovision, Intellivision.
Rosalie's Mupen GUI is a fantastic option for N64 emulation and it comes with both GlideN64 and Parallel graphic plugins to choose from. One for accuracy and one for performance. It's better than Project64.
It’s wild to see how far PCSX2 has come. I still mostly associate it with being pretty buggy and difficult to use (and tbf I haven’t tried the new 2.0 version yet). I guess it also doesn’t help that I was almost entirely interested in the more difficult games to emulate like Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet and Clank. I still remember trying to play Jak X Combat Racing on v1.4 when that game would freeze/crash after 5 minutes; had to find a fan patch just to extend that to 20 minutes
Very good video👏. I appreciate your hard work bro. I already have Vita3k, PCSX2 1.7 (yet to update to 2.0), Dolphin 5.0, Cemu, & PPSSPP. My laptop is old & low-end (4th-gen core i7 & Nvidia quadro k2100m). I haven't bothered getting OG Xbox, Xenia, or RPCS3 b'cos I'm sure my system will struggle with those. I used to have Yuzu & Ryujinx & I could play 2d games okay but 3d games struggled.
I was able to run lighter games, even some 3D ones, using Ryujinx and a 3rd generation i5, but it was a desktop CPU, not a laptop. Sometimes you'll get better performance with Ryujinx, and other times it might not even run. It's really a matter of trial and error.
The list is pretty good, but I have a couple of problems with how certain entries are. I don't quite think it's fair to include ShadPS4 or any PS4 emulators in the list yet, as the scene is still in it's infancy. Within the past few weeks, we went from merely booting Bloodborne to getting into game, fighting bosses with framerates over 30. Persona 4 went from not working to fully playable within days. The scene is still really early on, so while it *is* there, it's just not quite at a point where it'd be smart to consider it as an emulator to play PS4 exclusives such as Bloodborne or InFamous. I would personally bump Cemu up to S tier; not only is it the only PC Wii U emulator, but it's great in all regards. It's easy to set up, it runs really well on lower end hardware, and it has a lot of potential for mods, which other emulators like Yuzu (at least for a while) or RPCS3 struggled with. Likewise, I'd also bump Citra up as well, as most games run fine within Citra (speaking for the PC release), run well and also has mod support for the games it can run. Not quite S tier, but it's still a versatile emulator that works for pretty much anything you'd wanna throw at it.
Only one I kind of disagree with is Ryujinx. It should be S-tier. For a long time kept up with yuzu and even surpassed Yuzu in some titles and Features. Overall good list tho.
I can make a list for Android if you guys want, but it will take me more time because I'm not sure which projects are good enough to test. Basically, on Android, my full knowledge is mostly on NDS, 3DS, PS series, and Switch.

Hello, my friend! Welcome to the world of emulation. I'm sure you'll discover more games here than you'll be able to play in a lifetime, haha. Recently, I was testing arcade emulators since it's a platform I love. Ever since I got my first PC, I've always liked WinKawaks, but with the lack of updates, it's starting to fall short. It's very easy to configure and run games, but nowadays, the best option is MAME. Even though it's difficult to set up and its user interface is outdated and not very intuitive.

Too me Neo Geo is underrated and has some great games that need to be played like Windjammers, Pulstar, Neo Turf Masters, Spinmaster, Shock Troopers, Cross Swords etc etc just to name a few. I have been installed yuzu and ryujinx in my pc and I can confirm,yuzu give me better performance in my opinion,yuzu has more configuration options while ryujinx configuration it’s so poor.
Agree, except for xenia canary. Must say I don't play much xenia games and only play compatible ones. Upscaling is an issue though, have made custom resolutions and they tend to slow game down significantly, maybe that's the issue?
Problems with saves and audio in an emulator that has been in development for a decent amount of time are unacceptable. Another major issue with the project is the lack of a UI. All the other emulators on this list have a UI and don't have save issues. Losing a save is a gamer's worst enemy.
@@AlexwpiGame Didn't know about the saves. That is a major flaw indeed. Yeah, the UI, or should I say cfg file is pretty bare bones. Cursed a few times when I first began using it and it was by no means my first emulator setup. Xenia manager should fix that but haven't tried it (last time I checked it did not yet run xbox live). But you're right. When it runs a game it runs it good but the UI is not up to par with other emulators, far from it.
Xenia I've noticed causes bad flickering on alot of games, like Blue Dragon, but if you go into the config file and place resolution at 2x or even 3x, the games it's compatible with are wow...greatly enhanced, i like playing F.E.A.R. and also the Xbox 360 (console) exclusives Perseus Mandate and Extraction Point on xenia instead of pc because of the gamepad support, but with 3x resolution on xenia, looks almost on par with pc, which pc needs mods nowadays to function properly at a proper framerate....F.E.A.R. was definitely the can it run game, right before Crysis came out.
I never thought Dolphin would be surpassed but I think PCSX2 and Duckstation have both surpassed it. Dolphin needs to figure out a way to get the Wii Remote speaker emulation to work correctly.
Duckstation was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the video's title. The N64 decompilation project should also be here and to be placed at S tier.

Alex & Subscribers: What other metrics should be added beside ease of use, game performance, compatibility, and accuracy?
From my side, there have been several attempts to contact Jarrod, but he never responds or even sees my messages. On the other hand, for any "EmuDrama," he promptly tags Mr. Sujano to help him with his conflicts. Other devs, like Phoenix and Gamer64 (Mandarine), always respond and treat me very well. I've even exchanged a few words with PabloMK7, who seems to be a really nice guy.
Thank you for your opinion, I only placed it below the Yuzu forks because I was thinking specifically about emulating Zelda TotK. The performance of Ryujinx falls well below Yuzu, but I respect your opinion if you consider it better. Just for curiosity's sake, I was able to run Ryujinx on my third-generation i5, but I couldn't run Yuzu.
@@AlexwpiGame It depends on your hardware. I have a pretty decent rig and both emulators run great. One might work better than the other depending on the person's computer, though generally Yuzu is more optimized for performance and Ryujinx is more accurate. Both emulators should be in the same tier.
@@AlexwpiGame Ryujinx runs slower than Yuzu due to the fact it focuses on stability and accuracy, rather than performance. For a while, it was the only emulator that could run mods for games like Smash Bros. because of the accuracy. it also tends to run early games a lot better. I remember Yuzu had problems with Scarlet and Violet that Ryujinx didn't have. Fire Emblem: Engage was also unstable on Yuzu for a bit, my friend kept getting crashes. Yuzu is faster and better for lower end PCs, but Ryujinx is more consistent. I'd consider bumping it up if you ever do a revision.
It should be noted that Play! is the only emulator that runs arcade games based on the PS2 hardware (I dumped most of them). That means Namco System 246/256 and System 147/148. Many of those arcade games were not ported to any consoles so to play those you need either real arcade games or use Play! :-)

It's quite sad to see that yet again, PSX113 is forgotten. It was the first PlayStation 1 emulator that had over 95% game compatibility(If I remember correctly, the developer didn't bother with a compatibility list like other emulators had because out of the box it ran almost every PS1 game). Even when ePSXe was struggling with having 50%. It didn't have any frills or fancy advancements like up upscaling. It just ran the games in the most accurate way possible. It was essentially a 1-to-1 replica of the original PlayStation. I get that some people might not like an emulator that can't upscale to 8k with shaders and graphics enhancements. But it really was the best PS1 experience for purists who wanted to experience the PS1, ugly graphics on a LCD/LED and all. It even included the full PS1 bootup sequence(you know, that white starting screen with the PlayStation logo). Someone even made a PSX113 Frontend to simplify the command line functions. And allowed you to set up a per game launch configuration. If you ever find yourself using PSX113, you might find an option for PS2. This is because the developer had plans to add that in. It even has the option to have a PS2 BIOS. Sadly, it does not work. The project was abandoned a long while back. Still though, it was the best PS1 emulator for accuracy and authenticity.
i have some issues with xenia, for example it cant run need for speed the run, far cry 4 and is a pain to setup without xenia manager, but i agree that it deserves at least C tier
You have a decent ranking, but I would personally put Dolphin in A not S. It's a very old emulator and it lacks in terms of user interface (you need to type commands in a user .txt file for changing graphical settings per game) + it has corrupted my save files a couple of times + recording issues, etc.
As I said earlier, losing saves is unacceptable, and the configuration parameters are already integrated into the game. Besides that, it has simulated HDR, and I love playing with HDR. But I respect your opinion, and thank you for commenting.
I want to add SSF (Sega Saturn). SSF works smooth on my potato laptop (others were laggy on my potato laptop). RMG (N64), this is my option. It works great. there is no glitches. I don't know why but retroarch had small visual glitches.
I wasn't interested in the Princess Peach game, but I can confirm that 30XX only runs decently on Ryujinx. You make a great point, especially since I love both 20XX and 30XX.
@@AlexwpiGame Ryujinx does everything correctly accurately which is why new exclusives with protections and some newer titles run vs yuzu and it's forks having issues... But don't get me wrong yuzu and the forks is still a piece of golden software...
Cemu is an absolute S tier for me, insane performance, mods and graphical enhancements are extremely easy to access and configure and of course how easy you can get every game you want thanks to Wii USB Helper
Do you know which computer/laptop specs can handle Nintendo switch emulators and PS4 emulators? Edit: if you could do a video on that, that would be amazing
i5 4460 and a GTX 1050 for Switch emulation on Sudachi, Yuzu, and similar emulators-this hardware is obviously the minimum requirement and won't run all games. For a recommended setup, I’d suggest at least a 10th gen i7 and a GTX 1070. As for ShadPS4, there are no set requirements yet since everything is still a work in progress, but I'll be running tests soon. Keep in mind that emulation for both of these systems relies more on the CPU than the GPU.
Personally I think the hardest to emulate right now I mean as far as emulators them working the content would definitely have to be Xbox 360, psychic Saturn can have a myriad of problems but that platform has come a long long way in the last few years. Xbox 360 however and maybe now that the store shut down that will start to see some massive improvements on that but yeah

Saturn has Mednafen or Beetle on RetroArch. N64 you have to enter the menu and change to parallel RDP (that's why there's artifacting in the screen borders)
Love your videos Alex, though I disagree to some of your opinions: Project 64 is the best N64 emulator and standalone, so no need for Retroarch configuration. Secondly, I still think the classic Yuzu should have deserved a spot in your Switch emulation sector.. Just opinions, no offense;-)
Thanks for commenting! I’ve responded to almost all the comments with other users' opinions, and if I were to list Yuzu, I’d place it right next to Sudachi. While Sudachi received RAM usage reductions, Yuzu had the UMA project during its active development. UMA aimed to reduce the RAM used by games, allowing you to play Zelda TotK with about 10GB of RAM. Unfortunately, that project went down with Yuzu, but I believe that by now, UMA would have been released. About Project 64, I’ll definitely make another video-comprehensive and updated-covering all emulators, including RetroArch cores for Sega Saturn and N64. I consider these to be some of the most challenging emulators to run properly today.
Though duckstation is possibly the best emu ever it seems like its some kind of ritual for Stenzeck to break texture pack and xbrz filters every other update for some reason lol. Thats why its a rule of thumb to always make a back up of your previous emulator before updating.
Mednafen is the best Sega Saturn emulator. Complicated to set up, but everything I've thrown at it runs perfectly from Panzer Dragoon Saga to Sonic Jam
His reasoning is sound. I have the exact same experience, anything I throw at Yuzu and forks sings, while Ryujinx chugs along. Of course, if you have a beast of a rig you'll be fine, but that's not the reality of most people, who have mid-range PCs or lower (plus Ryu does not have Android forks). An emulator is also rated on how well-optimized it is.
@fabio78 You clearly conveyed how I feel when testing Ryujinx. It’s no good for a project to be 100% accurate with games like Luigi’s Mansion 3 if it can’t maintain 60FPS with mods, especially when I can play at 120FPS on Sudachi with just a few almost imperceptible lighting issues. But of course, this is just a personal preference, and everyone is free to choose the projects that suit them best.
Dolphin really should go down a tier, I STILL get issues with it, it struggles to maintain proper frametimes with 30fps content and it took ages for them to fix the shader cache issues only for the fix to not be touched or improved upon in a long time despite it still having flaws. Meanwhile PCSX2 and Duckstation just... work, they have just as many features as Dolphin and besides a few early day bugs on PCSX2's side, it's been that way for 10 years. I was playing shit on that and having it literally just work out the gate for 10 damn years. As for PPSSPP idk, don't use it, tried with FF1 once and the music was fucked so gave up.
Yes, but these emulators don't properly utilize the GPU's power. I could say there was a bottleneck here only with Switch emulation and RPCS3. The only emulator that excessively uses the GPU is Xenia.
@@AlexwpiGame Diaz is correct. Your PC hardware is not pair correctly. Do a benchmark test: 1080p, 1440p, 2160p with high settings and compare. You should notice the bottleneck is on the CPU. Skip intel CPUs and go with 7800X3D with fast memory. When you do a performance test on PC, you should include the resolutions above in your video.
Disagree on PCS2X. It's very good, but motion blur effects can be very bad when upscaling. Have heard of using Reshade to disable it. PS2 games overused motion blur, see: The Bouncer
Xenia helped me play fable 2. As a pc gamer I always wanted that game to be ported on pc but that didn't happened. I recently played fable 2 on xenia. Although at 720p 30fps, I'm still quite satisfied.
same story but with red dead redemption never got around to it then a month or so back i finally decided to give it a try i couldnt hit a solid 60 but 30 was stable at 1440p upscaled then i used lossless scaling for framegen so it feels like 60 PERFECT P.S. i played almost 10 hrs i was hooked on the game
I'd place Vita3k on D tbh, I kept on fixing and re-configuring it but to no avail, even going as far as to follow all youtube tutorials, it always say the "Archive" message
Personally, I had way better performance on Bayonetta 3 with Ryujinx compared to Yuzu. Yuzu was a stuttery mess with graphical glitches, but Ryujinx ran the game perfectly after shader compilation was done, unlike Yuzu.
Can you make another one for older consoles? For example mGBA, VBA-M for the GBA and No$GBA for the GBA/DS, the latter being the first one for those consoles as far as i know or game gear emulators if there are any

I don't really get the argumentation against Torzu. Hosting an emulator for a console that has had a history of aggressive takedowns from Nintendo on the dark web to make it untouchable is a sensible approach, and I don't get how that constitutes "drama from the developers". The whole thing is open source, and you can't even download a precompiled build from the dark web, you have to build it yourself. That would be the worst possible way to distribute malicious code, especially since most of the userbase won't even be able to build the thing.
Torzu is just a rebranded version of Yuzu without any improvements. Send me a reliable link to the latest version of Torzu, and I'll prove this to everyone.
I wanted to play persona 5 royal and ive seen good performance on ryujinx, is it better on sudachi (i want to play a zelda game later and since u said it wasn't that good on ryujinx you got me wondering which simulator to download)

I'm shocked that PS2 emulation is in it's current excellent state, considering how complicated and proprietary the hardware is. I would have thought Xbox emulation would have been nailed long before PS2.

Cemu deserves an S-tier rating. It is easy to use and runs smoothly on my low-end potato PC. It's the easiest emulator to set up and use. The only downside is that the Wii U has few games and exclusives.
Ui is pretty basic in comparison to the others.
I agree with everything you're saying, but I placed CEMU in tier A due to a lack of relevant updates in the past year.
Some eshop games don't work at all.

PPSSPP is definitely one of the BEST and most stable emulators out there
But most emulators are best ran on PC with controller (except for DS and GB which are better on phone)

Duckstation literally changed EVERYTHING that we thought was possible for ps1 emulation....there's soo many emulators I play....pcsx2, dolphin, rpcs3, xenia....what we need is a better version of xemu

For NDS I would put DeSmuME in B tier and MelonDS in A or even S tier. MelonDS already has outstanding compatibility, plus MelonDS' upscaling in leagues better than what DeSmuME could ever hope for as it currently is. MelonDS utilizes the GPU which make upscaling very easy and lite even on moderate hardware, meanwhile DeSmuME uses on the CPU which means upscaling can and will cause lag even the most powerful CPUs on the market.
Also Citra got robbed. On PC it's practically perfect for 99% of games with great upscaling and an easy setup.
As for N64 I think that you should look at more projects outside of RetroArch. simple64 for example is outstanding. As the name implies it's as simple as can be and it practically plug and play, it's an easy contender for an S tier as well, it also has some of the best online utility that you could ask for in an emulator. Also the standalone version of Mupen64 is far ahead of the RetroArch version and with the RMG frontend is also S tier worthy.
no, MelonDS lacks a lot of feature like shaders and texture filtering, also it cant upscale some games like Golden Sun DD; its only upside over DeSmuME is that it is lighter and has DSi support; I can understant putting it higher for that reason, but never in S tier.

@Bajolzas I preferred to place emulators that are noob-friendly in tier S, so that anyone can have fun without spending time on long setup videos to configure the emulator properly. I only placed CEMU in tier A due to a lack of recent updates.
I'd say N64 emulators are still really far behind. They still rely on outdated plugin systems, have a lot of limitations that become apparent when talking about mods or textures and still can't interpolate frames. Yes, it does the job and it's certainly playable, but it's still neither perfectly accurate nor good at enhancing the console's titles. As recompilation is starting to take off, I imagine N64 emulation will just become obsolete
@snootyink809 The already decompiled N64 games, along with the ability to configure the camera with the right analog stick, bring significant quality of life improvements, as well as other features such as texture packs and increased FPS-things that only decompilation can provide us.
PCSX2 and Dolphin are the actual GOATs, the Michael Jordan and Lebron James of emulators. It took PCSX2 especially so many years to get where they are, but those years have been so incredibly worth it. Three entire console libraries with absurd amounts of variety and novelty available on pretty much any device with decent horsepower is so incredible.
Sadly pcsx2 is full of problems, like rendering for some games will just break for weeks with no fix, they removed Async mix for no reason even though loads of people used it and the devs are kinda just generally rude

@@solosapnation ofc there's fixes but some games have major problems that render them unplayable when they were fine 1 update ago.
They removed Async mix which was incredibly useful for slower games so you could run them faster and have the audio remain the same speed, when people complained they said "well you shouldn't have been using that anyway"
They told p3fes modders they wouldn't fix certain bugs (they did it anyway but still) because "this is PS2 emulator not the p3fes emulator"

I didn't realize Xenia was that lacking, quite unfortunate.
I can run Gears of war 1/2/3 and judgment, Spiderman web of shadows, Naruto rise of ninja and broken Bond, NBA homecourt, fifa Street 3, fist of the North star 2 ken's range, DBZ Burst limit and asura's wrath quite well, and I have an old pc (Xenon 1270 V2 and rx550 4gb)
It's still a solid emulator if you have basic computer knowledge
I find it about on par with RPCS3 in terms of compatibility and both run equally well on my Legion Go handheld. If I can't run a game on one I can often run it or run it better on the other.
It can't even increase resolution without breaking games. And performance is awful at higher resolutions.
I think it's unfair to rank Bizhawk D only taking into consideration its Saturn Emulation, since Bizhawk is not a "saturn-only" emulator, but a multisystem emulator and a nice libretro front-end with a traditional mousecentric GUI and its actually pretty good at emulating other systems like N64, SNES, Turbografx16, Sega Genesis, 32x, Sega Master System, Game Gear, NES, Colecovision, Intellivision.
RPCS3 deserves S tier with there recent improvements etc... and every game is bootable and the highest compatibility rate

Rosalie's Mupen GUI is a fantastic option for N64 emulation and it comes with both GlideN64 and Parallel graphic plugins to choose from. One for accuracy and one for performance. It's better than Project64.
It’s wild to see how far PCSX2 has come. I still mostly associate it with being pretty buggy and difficult to use (and tbf I haven’t tried the new 2.0 version yet).
I guess it also doesn’t help that I was almost entirely interested in the more difficult games to emulate like Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet and Clank. I still remember trying to play Jak X Combat Racing on v1.4 when that game would freeze/crash after 5 minutes; had to find a fan patch just to extend that to 20 minutes
Very good video👏. I appreciate your hard work bro. I already have Vita3k, PCSX2 1.7 (yet to update to 2.0), Dolphin 5.0, Cemu, & PPSSPP. My laptop is old & low-end (4th-gen core i7 & Nvidia quadro k2100m). I haven't bothered getting OG Xbox, Xenia, or RPCS3 b'cos I'm sure my system will struggle with those. I used to have Yuzu & Ryujinx & I could play 2d games okay but 3d games struggled.
I was able to run lighter games, even some 3D ones, using Ryujinx and a 3rd generation i5, but it was a desktop CPU, not a laptop. Sometimes you'll get better performance with Ryujinx, and other times it might not even run. It's really a matter of trial and error.

The list is pretty good, but I have a couple of problems with how certain entries are.
I don't quite think it's fair to include ShadPS4 or any PS4 emulators in the list yet, as the scene is still in it's infancy. Within the past few weeks, we went from merely booting Bloodborne to getting into game, fighting bosses with framerates over 30. Persona 4 went from not working to fully playable within days. The scene is still really early on, so while it *is* there, it's just not quite at a point where it'd be smart to consider it as an emulator to play PS4 exclusives such as Bloodborne or InFamous.
I would personally bump Cemu up to S tier; not only is it the only PC Wii U emulator, but it's great in all regards. It's easy to set up, it runs really well on lower end hardware, and it has a lot of potential for mods, which other emulators like Yuzu (at least for a while) or RPCS3 struggled with.
Likewise, I'd also bump Citra up as well, as most games run fine within Citra (speaking for the PC release), run well and also has mod support for the games it can run. Not quite S tier, but it's still a versatile emulator that works for pretty much anything you'd wanna throw at it.

Only one I kind of disagree with is Ryujinx. It should be S-tier. For a long time kept up with yuzu and even surpassed Yuzu in some titles and Features. Overall good list tho.

Hello, my friend! Welcome to the world of emulation. I'm sure you'll discover more games here than you'll be able to play in a lifetime, haha. Recently, I was testing arcade emulators since it's a platform I love. Ever since I got my first PC, I've always liked WinKawaks, but with the lack of updates, it's starting to fall short. It's very easy to configure and run games, but nowadays, the best option is MAME. Even though it's difficult to set up and its user interface is outdated and not very intuitive.

I have been installed yuzu and ryujinx in my pc and I can confirm,yuzu give me better performance in my opinion,yuzu has more configuration options while ryujinx configuration it’s so poor.

Agree, except for xenia canary. Must say I don't play much xenia games and only play compatible ones. Upscaling is an issue though, have made custom resolutions and they tend to slow game down significantly, maybe that's the issue?
Problems with saves and audio in an emulator that has been in development for a decent amount of time are unacceptable. Another major issue with the project is the lack of a UI. All the other emulators on this list have a UI and don't have save issues. Losing a save is a gamer's worst enemy.

@@AlexwpiGame Didn't know about the saves. That is a major flaw indeed. Yeah, the UI, or should I say cfg file is pretty bare bones. Cursed a few times when I first began using it and it was by no means my first emulator setup. Xenia manager should fix that but haven't tried it (last time I checked it did not yet run xbox live). But you're right. When it runs a game it runs it good but the UI is not up to par with other emulators, far from it.
Xenia does not have Vulkan tho I recall that Xenia Canary does have Vulkan support, haven't ran into issues yet
Xenia I've noticed causes bad flickering on alot of games, like Blue Dragon, but if you go into the config file and place resolution at 2x or even 3x, the games it's compatible with are wow...greatly enhanced, i like playing F.E.A.R. and also the Xbox 360 (console) exclusives Perseus Mandate and Extraction Point on xenia instead of pc because of the gamepad support, but with 3x resolution on xenia, looks almost on par with pc, which pc needs mods nowadays to function properly at a proper framerate....F.E.A.R. was definitely the can it run game, right before Crysis came out.

I never thought Dolphin would be surpassed but I think PCSX2 and Duckstation have both surpassed it. Dolphin needs to figure out a way to get the Wii Remote speaker emulation to work correctly.

From my side, there have been several attempts to contact Jarrod, but he never responds or even sees my messages. On the other hand, for any "EmuDrama," he promptly tags Mr. Sujano to help him with his conflicts. Other devs, like Phoenix and Gamer64 (Mandarine), always respond and treat me very well. I've even exchanged a few words with PabloMK7, who seems to be a really nice guy.

Thank you for your opinion, I only placed it below the Yuzu forks because I was thinking specifically about emulating Zelda TotK. The performance of Ryujinx falls well below Yuzu, but I respect your opinion if you consider it better. Just for curiosity's sake, I was able to run Ryujinx on my third-generation i5, but I couldn't run Yuzu.
@@AlexwpiGame It depends on your hardware. I have a pretty decent rig and both emulators run great. One might work better than the other depending on the person's computer, though generally Yuzu is more optimized for performance and Ryujinx is more accurate. Both emulators should be in the same tier.

@@AlexwpiGame Ryujinx runs slower than Yuzu due to the fact it focuses on stability and accuracy, rather than performance. For a while, it was the only emulator that could run mods for games like Smash Bros. because of the accuracy. it also tends to run early games a lot better. I remember Yuzu had problems with Scarlet and Violet that Ryujinx didn't have. Fire Emblem: Engage was also unstable on Yuzu for a bit, my friend kept getting crashes.
Yuzu is faster and better for lower end PCs, but Ryujinx is more consistent. I'd consider bumping it up if you ever do a revision.
It should be noted that Play! is the only emulator that runs arcade games based on the PS2 hardware (I dumped most of them). That means Namco System 246/256 and System 147/148. Many of those arcade games were not ported to any consoles so to play those you need either real arcade games or use Play! :-)

Sorry about that; it really did sound strange with the AI saying "DesMuMe," for example. If it helps, there is native English subtitles available, and it’s not an automatic Google translation but from the actual script, which might assist in understanding.
It's quite sad to see that yet again, PSX113 is forgotten. It was the first PlayStation 1 emulator that had over 95% game compatibility(If I remember correctly, the developer didn't bother with a compatibility list like other emulators had because out of the box it ran almost every PS1 game). Even when ePSXe was struggling with having 50%. It didn't have any frills or fancy advancements like up upscaling. It just ran the games in the most accurate way possible. It was essentially a 1-to-1 replica of the original PlayStation. I get that some people might not like an emulator that can't upscale to 8k with shaders and graphics enhancements. But it really was the best PS1 experience for purists who wanted to experience the PS1, ugly graphics on a LCD/LED and all. It even included the full PS1 bootup sequence(you know, that white starting screen with the PlayStation logo).
Someone even made a PSX113 Frontend to simplify the command line functions. And allowed you to set up a per game launch configuration.
If you ever find yourself using PSX113, you might find an option for PS2. This is because the developer had plans to add that in. It even has the option to have a PS2 BIOS. Sadly, it does not work. The project was abandoned a long while back. Still though, it was the best PS1 emulator for accuracy and authenticity.
Disagree with Xenia Canary on d. I would put it in b. I have not yet found any xbla game that is not playable on it. :)

You have a decent ranking, but I would personally put Dolphin in A not S. It's a very old emulator and it lacks in terms of user interface (you need to type commands in a user .txt file for changing graphical settings per game) + it has corrupted my save files a couple of times + recording issues, etc.
As I said earlier, losing saves is unacceptable, and the configuration parameters are already integrated into the game. Besides that, it has simulated HDR, and I love playing with HDR. But I respect your opinion, and thank you for commenting.
Use save states. Dolphin corrupted my save file for Wind Waker after I finished the game. 🤣
Dolphin is not lacking outside per game settings, 95% of emulators on this list don't even have what dolphin has.

I want to add SSF (Sega Saturn). SSF works smooth on my potato laptop (others were laggy on my potato laptop). RMG (N64), this is my option. It works great. there is no glitches. I don't know why but retroarch had small visual glitches.
Sudachi yuzu and torzu still cannot run princess peach and or games like 30xx properly...ryujinx should be the top emulator for Nintendo switch...
I wasn't interested in the Princess Peach game, but I can confirm that 30XX only runs decently on Ryujinx. You make a great point, especially since I love both 20XX and 30XX.
@@AlexwpiGame Ryujinx does everything correctly accurately which is why new exclusives with protections and some newer titles run vs yuzu and it's forks having issues... But don't get me wrong yuzu and the forks is still a piece of golden software...
I use Yuzu/its forks for everything older and ryujinx for the few new titles
Cemu is an absolute S tier for me, insane performance, mods and graphical enhancements are extremely easy to access and configure and of course how easy you can get every game you want thanks to Wii USB Helper

i5 4460 and a GTX 1050 for Switch emulation on Sudachi, Yuzu, and similar emulators-this hardware is obviously the minimum requirement and won't run all games. For a recommended setup, I’d suggest at least a 10th gen i7 and a GTX 1070.
As for ShadPS4, there are no set requirements yet since everything is still a work in progress, but I'll be running tests soon.
Keep in mind that emulation for both of these systems relies more on the CPU than the GPU.

Personally I think the hardest to emulate right now I mean as far as emulators them working the content would definitely have to be Xbox 360, psychic Saturn can have a myriad of problems but that platform has come a long long way in the last few years. Xbox 360 however and maybe now that the store shut down that will start to see some massive improvements on that but yeah

Saturn has Mednafen or Beetle on RetroArch. N64 you have to enter the menu and change to parallel RDP (that's why there's artifacting in the screen borders)

Love your videos Alex, though I disagree to some of your opinions: Project 64 is the best N64 emulator and standalone, so no need for Retroarch configuration. Secondly, I still think the classic Yuzu should have deserved a spot in your Switch emulation sector.. Just opinions, no offense;-)
Thanks for commenting! I’ve responded to almost all the comments with other users' opinions, and if I were to list Yuzu, I’d place it right next to Sudachi. While Sudachi received RAM usage reductions, Yuzu had the UMA project during its active development. UMA aimed to reduce the RAM used by games, allowing you to play Zelda TotK with about 10GB of RAM. Unfortunately, that project went down with Yuzu, but I believe that by now, UMA would have been released.
About Project 64, I’ll definitely make another video-comprehensive and updated-covering all emulators, including RetroArch cores for Sega Saturn and N64. I consider these to be some of the most challenging emulators to run properly today.
I think Parallel launcher is even better than Project 64
Though duckstation is possibly the best emu ever it seems like its some kind of ritual for Stenzeck to break texture pack and xbrz filters every other update for some reason lol. Thats why its a rule of thumb to always make a back up of your previous emulator before updating.
Mednafen is the best Sega Saturn emulator. Complicated to set up, but everything I've thrown at it runs perfectly from Panzer Dragoon Saga to Sonic Jam

His reasoning is sound. I have the exact same experience, anything I throw at Yuzu and forks sings, while Ryujinx chugs along. Of course, if you have a beast of a rig you'll be fine, but that's not the reality of most people, who have mid-range PCs or lower (plus Ryu does not have Android forks). An emulator is also rated on how well-optimized it is.
@fabio78 You clearly conveyed how I feel when testing Ryujinx. It’s no good for a project to be 100% accurate with games like Luigi’s Mansion 3 if it can’t maintain 60FPS with mods, especially when I can play at 120FPS on Sudachi with just a few almost imperceptible lighting issues. But of course, this is just a personal preference, and everyone is free to choose the projects that suit them best.
Ryujinx on silicon is horrendous. Constant crashes of the entire emulator. Wish I had another option
Dolphin really should go down a tier, I STILL get issues with it, it struggles to maintain proper frametimes with 30fps content and it took ages for them to fix the shader cache issues only for the fix to not be touched or improved upon in a long time despite it still having flaws.
Meanwhile PCSX2 and Duckstation just... work, they have just as many features as Dolphin and besides a few early day bugs on PCSX2's side, it's been that way for 10 years. I was playing shit on that and having it literally just work out the gate for 10 damn years.
As for PPSSPP idk, don't use it, tried with FF1 once and the music was fucked so gave up.

Yes, but these emulators don't properly utilize the GPU's power. I could say there was a bottleneck here only with Switch emulation and RPCS3. The only emulator that excessively uses the GPU is Xenia.
@@AlexwpiGame Diaz is correct. Your PC hardware is not pair correctly. Do a benchmark test: 1080p, 1440p, 2160p with high settings and compare. You should notice the bottleneck is on the CPU. Skip intel CPUs and go with 7800X3D with fast memory. When you do a performance test on PC, you should include the resolutions above in your video.
Disagree on PCS2X. It's very good, but motion blur effects can be very bad when upscaling. Have heard of using Reshade to disable it. PS2 games overused motion blur, see: The Bouncer
mednafen has been updated earlier this year for sega saturn. Also known as beetle on retroarch. Great improvements but rarely a mention online.
Xenia helped me play fable 2. As a pc gamer I always wanted that game to be ported on pc but that didn't happened. I recently played fable 2 on xenia. Although at 720p 30fps, I'm still quite satisfied.
same story but with red dead redemption never got around to it then a month or so back i finally decided to give it a try i couldnt hit a solid 60 but 30 was stable at 1440p upscaled then i used lossless scaling for framegen so it feels like 60 PERFECT P.S. i played almost 10 hrs i was hooked on the game

I'd place Vita3k on D tbh, I kept on fixing and re-configuring it but to no avail, even going as far as to follow all youtube tutorials, it always say the "Archive" message
for Saturn emulation try RetroArch and Mednafen ssf is accurate but hasn't bin updated in a while but its a great option as well

Personally, I had way better performance on Bayonetta 3 with Ryujinx compared to Yuzu. Yuzu was a stuttery mess with graphical glitches, but Ryujinx ran the game perfectly after shader compilation was done, unlike Yuzu.
Can you make another one for older consoles? For example mGBA, VBA-M for the GBA and No$GBA for the GBA/DS, the latter being the first one for those consoles as far as i know or game gear emulators if there are any

I don't really get the argumentation against Torzu. Hosting an emulator for a console that has had a history of aggressive takedowns from Nintendo on the dark web to make it untouchable is a sensible approach, and I don't get how that constitutes "drama from the developers". The whole thing is open source, and you can't even download a precompiled build from the dark web, you have to build it yourself. That would be the worst possible way to distribute malicious code, especially since most of the userbase won't even be able to build the thing.
Torzu is just a rebranded version of Yuzu without any improvements. Send me a reliable link to the latest version of Torzu, and I'll prove this to everyone.

I'm shocked that PS2 emulation is in it's current excellent state, considering how complicated and proprietary the hardware is. I would have thought Xbox emulation would have been nailed long before PS2.
