If someone told my 10 year old self that PC would go on from getting ports like Spider-Man 2 or the 2007 RE4 one to become the definitive platform for playing most games and that 90% of console games in the future would be ported to it, i would have thought they were crazy or lying. Just be careful of the bugs lol. I'm more trusting for PC starting and early access to develop to consoles later on rather than they screw up the other way around like metal gear solid master collection. And of course from console to PC, you won't have a physical nor price drops from a newer re-release.

Got a few more for you for part 2: - Dune 2000 on PlayStation. - Any port of ZombiU to non-Wii-U. - 007 Nightfire on PC. - Tales of Phantasia on iOS/Android (compared to the PSP version specifically). - Space Channel 5 on GBA. - Max Payne on GBA.
Nightfire on PC was by Gearbox and it used the Half Life 1 engine, it was completely different, entirely FPS with no vehicle levels at all unlike the Eurocom console version. The console version had the best multiplayer because of excellent splitscreen and map design, but aside from like 2 levels, the Alps and Japanese Gardens, I felt the PC version mogged the console version in terms of the actual campaign even if the graphics were way worse. The level in the skyscraper on console is like 15 minutes long and the skyscraper is in reality only like 3 different floors. On the PC it's a fully modeled skyscraper with like 80 floors worth of gameplay and the level took over 2 hours to beat and was insane balls to the wall combat half the time. Very memorable absolutely huge level.
the 6th gen versions use the NFS Most Wanted map but with the districts rearranged to look like those from Undercover, there even comparisons here on UA-cam showing it's the exact same map from MW
PC had its own type of games that it was best to play on back in those days. Before 2000, PC was the ideal platform for FPS genre. Similarly in those days it was the ideal platform for RTS and 4X games. After 2000, RTS and roleplaying games remained popular on PC. Just after 2002, PC would get the most multiplat games and their version kept getting better

The Ghost Rider bit was hard to show, because I would've required several minutes to show the actual differences in level design, and people just don't have the patience sadly. Much of the levels in the PS2 version are cut from the PSP version - it's not just that they are compartmentalized into arenas. In hindsight I should've said that, but hopefully people will get the idea by watching the video.

Ghostbusters: The video Game and 007: Nightfire are both really different in releases. PC and console versions of Nightfire are entirely different games. Ghostbusters PS2 and Wii games are in a total different style than PS3 and Xbox360. It's kind of impressive

That game has like 5 different version depending on the console. Ps1, dreamcast a bit of an upgrade. Gamecube a new version. Ps2 a bit upgraded version of gsmecube. And I wouldn't be surprised if there was another version of that game.

What about vastly different versions on the same console? The US version of Monsters Inc on PS2 was so bad, rather than release it in PAL territories, Activision ported the PS1 version instead! There's also two completely different versions of Klax and Marble Madness on the Mega Drive
It was amazing that the PS2 was still getting games during the seventh generation of consoles! It is always interesting to see the definitive or preferred versions of some games. After the GameCube, Nintendo seemed to always lag behind that current generation in terms of hardware. I understand they probably did it to cut costs, but it usually meant that all non-exclusive games were usually best played elsewhere for better performance (and sometimes price).

Spider-Man 2 will always be the biggest example of "same name, completely different games" for me. I grew up only ever knowing the PC version of Spider-Man 2. So when I first heard of it being the best or "definitive" Spider-Man game I was really confused. Sure, I didn't dislike the game. But I didn't like it as much as Spider-Man 3 or Web of Shadows either. There were so many other SM games that were so much better like Shattered Dimensions and Ultimate Spider-Man. So I was really shocked to learn about the console versions of the game and felt like I missed out on something great. But on the bright side, it made me appreciate Spider-Man 3 a lot more since that was the first open-world Spider-Man game I played that didn't have any of the weird restrictions of Spider-Man 1 or the PC version of Spider-Man 2.
the wolverine tie in game is also vastly different between ps2 and ps3, force unleashed 2, assassin's creed 2 and sonic colors for ds and consoles. Also majority of the ben 10 games.
I actually remembered The Cat in the Hat videogame being different in this regard, too! On the PS2 and Xbox ports, if you collected all the keys for the bonus door, it was also a bonus level that you would have to complete. In the PC port, they were cut entirely, and just straight up gave you the level collectibles you otherwise would have had to earn! Also, in the main level select area, usually the levels would look wacky (to indicate you hadn't cleansed the level completely), but in the PC version, they were the cleansed version of the object, both before AND after. There was also a lot of other different changes, but it was crazy to think the console versions were better in that regard.

I owned the PS2, OG Xbox, Xbox 360 version & PC version, and the level design was very different from each other. The story was kept basically the same as well as the characters role, voice line and plot points. You also didn't mentioned the PSP version of GRAW 2, which is basically a 1.5 of the game where you start of in Columbia to locate/destroy a shipment of weapons, preform recon on VIP to extract/eliminate and etc... But still an awesome video none the less 🏆🎉👏
I expect games with the same name to be different if the hardware is different. They're both based on the same movie, both have the same story or both are still the same genre. And there were often handheld versions of popular games, I don't expect the GBA version of Batman Begins to play like the PS2 version. And I guess the big games not based on other franchises don't want to overflow the market with three different Prince of Persias at once. "Here's the next big Ghost Recon game, and everyone get to play it no matter the console" But there's no reason for the PC version of Battle of Bikini Bottom to have that name. There were almost ten different Spongebob games out already, having a different name like "Bikini Bottom Party" wouldn't have hurt it, or at least let it be a platformer with that name.
This was an interesting video to watch but you should've also mentioned that Sonic Unleashed can also be played natively at 60 FPS on Xbox One/Series consoles due to the backwards compatibility enhancements!
Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 is another example. I played it several times on PS2 as a kid and when I first played the PC version years after, I was a bit confused, because I felt something was wrong or different. I then looked it up and saw, that certain parts of the singleplayer maps are way different. The PS2 version had more stuff as covers etc. compared to the PC.
You also forgot to mention the other Spider-Man 2 for PSP. It is a lot different than PS2 or PC versions. And it plays like the first game. But also there is more games like this, that has different versions. Games like X-Men Origins: Wolverine (PC, PS2, PSP), Counter-Strike 1.6 (PC, Xbox), Spider-Man Web of Shadows (PC, PSP, PS2) or some NFS games that came out after Hot Pursuit 2.
I remember too Skate it, which was very watered down and clunky version of Skate 2 for Nintendo consoles, they converted a city into a wasteland having the "big earthquake and everybody left but you" excuse to not render npcs. Most THQ games were the same, the spongebob movie was a point n click adventure rather than a platformer
-Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield (PC) and Rainbow Six 3 (Xbox, PS2, Gamecube). This last one would be a spin-off -Ghost Recon 2 (the Xbox version is very different to PS2/Gamecube versions).
A lot of 7th gen movie tie-in games had DS ports that were completely different. Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer is one example. Oddly, the DS version of Thor: God of Thunder is actually a much better game than tge console versions!
I remember this happening a lot, mostly with gba getting demakes of popular console titles, with a few being actually really good from what i remember.
Crash of the titans is one of these games. On the consoles (xbox360, ps2, wii, psp) was a beat em up with a different story but the ds version ( which was better) had a different gameplay and boss battles
reminds me of the time I asked my dad to get me Call of Duty 2. I only had a PS2 back then so I was expecting a downgraded version of the game. Then to my surprise it's a different game since it says Big Red One on the case under Call of Duty 2. One of my fave COD titles as a teenager since graphically it wasn't impressive as the PC, but it had an interesting story and got to experience more weapon variants. It also allowed you to shoot faster for semi auto rifles and cooking nades with a timer.

I'll never forget finding Spiderman 2 for PC at goodwill like 10 years ago and expecting it to play like the PS2 version, its still an alright game but no where near the console version.
My personal pain was Spider Man: Web of Shadows that I saw on a friend's PC and was impressed. When I saw it for PSP I immediately bought it and was really disappointed that it's a completely different 2D game. Still it's a nice game that I really enjoyed.
It has always been a thing especially with the spiderman games. I won't forget that time I bought Web of Shadows for the pd2 thinking it would be the same version on PS3 and PC

Tomb Raider Legend had a version for the Nintendo DS that was a 2D platformer. HP and the Philosopher's stone had 5(?) completely different versions for PC, PS1, GBC, GBA and 6th gen.
Ghost rider on GBA was a treat, the gameplay was smooth and fun even tho it's very different compared to other version (as expected since its not a powerful hardware) the graphics may not be good but you gotta consider its running on Gameboy
All Nickelodeon games on PC around the time were activity centers and point n click adventure titles. Some other companies, such as Disney would include both main line and activity centers for PC. Thankfully, activity centers died out later in the decade and PC users eventually got the console Battle for Bikini bottom game in the form of the Rehydrated remaster. Yes, it wasn't as good as the original, but at least you could install mods to make it a little better.

The thing with Sponge-Bob used to happen with lots, if not all Nickelodeon cartoon based games from 2000s. I still remember having watched to some Avatar episodes during a weekend (the first and true Avatar: "Last Airbender", not the blue alien matrix like production from the guy behind Terminator and Aliens) and got my mind blowing for how rich that plot and environment looked to be, so i go to the wilds in a holy hunt to grab a copy of the game for the platform i had available to play in my free time and, man... wasn't a totally a shame, but was a shame... The PC version was so "meh" that i'm still today saying that someday i'll jump back into an Avatar game, even now being able to play almost any version i preffer to.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines game was released on Gameboy Advance, the home consoles version are FPS game while the GBA version is very different King Kong the videogame is different in the PSP platform because of it's hardware limitations Tekken 6 on PSP is also different than the PS3 and Xbox 360 version since it removed the Scenario Campaign in there while the menu screen are different and downgraded the VS screen And some WWE Smackdown VS Raw games are a bit different on other platforms, SVR 2008 and 2009 on Wii is a great example, 2008 was missing some features and 24/7 mode was replaced with a different mode, 2009 has some exclusive contents, even the characters model are different, what I mean by it is the characters models are different on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platform per game while the PS2, PSP, and Wii reuses the outdated one, just by looking at their attires they're wearing, I even remember that some of the wrestlers entrance are a bit different on some platforms because I played SVR 2008 on the PS2, John Cena throws his hat and t-shirt at the audience once he enters the ring, while in the PSP version don't, not to mention the PS2, PSP, and Wii version uses the outdated Created Superstar assets from the earlier WWE games because I dumped the textures of one of my Created Superstar on each game and they all look the same

I had Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 on the Gamecube when I was a kid. Amazing game! Great memories!

The best way to play Sonic Unleashed actually is the Xbox Series X Version that upscales the visuals and runs at a smooth 60FPS throughout.

🙂👍 Video is awesome sauce, however... 🤔 I'm very surprised you didn't mentioned the 1st Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter game. I owned the PS2, OG Xbox, Xbox 360 version & PC version, and the level design was very different from each other. The story was kept basically the same as well as the characters role, voice line and plot points.
You also didn't mentioned the PSP version of GRAW 2, which is basically a 1.5 of the game where you start of in Columbia to locate/destroy a shipment of weapons, preform recon on VIP to extract/eliminate and etc...
But still an awesome video none the less 🏆🎉👏
I expect games with the same name to be different if the hardware is different. They're both based on the same movie, both have the same story or both are still the same genre. And there were often handheld versions of popular games, I don't expect the GBA version of Batman Begins to play like the PS2 version. And I guess the big games not based on other franchises don't want to overflow the market with three different Prince of Persias at once. "Here's the next big Ghost Recon game, and everyone get to play it no matter the console"
But there's no reason for the PC version of Battle of Bikini Bottom to have that name. There were almost ten different Spongebob games out already, having a different name like "Bikini Bottom Party" wouldn't have hurt it, or at least let it be a platformer with that name.
Rainbow Six: Vegas (PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) also looks different on PSP version. Still got the same name.
This was an interesting video to watch but you should've also mentioned that Sonic Unleashed can also be played natively at 60 FPS on Xbox One/Series consoles due to the backwards compatibility enhancements!
Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 is another example. I played it several times on PS2 as a kid and when I first played the PC version years after, I was a bit confused, because I felt something was wrong or different. I then looked it up and saw, that certain parts of the singleplayer maps are way different. The PS2 version had more stuff as covers etc. compared to the PC.
You also forgot to mention the other Spider-Man 2 for PSP. It is a lot different than PS2 or PC versions. And it plays like the first game. But also there is more games like this, that has different versions. Games like X-Men Origins: Wolverine (PC, PS2, PSP), Counter-Strike 1.6 (PC, Xbox), Spider-Man Web of Shadows (PC, PSP, PS2) or some NFS games that came out after Hot Pursuit 2.

I remember too Skate it, which was very watered down and clunky version of Skate 2 for Nintendo consoles, they converted a city into a wasteland having the "big earthquake and everybody left but you" excuse to not render npcs.

Crash of the titans is one of these games. On the consoles (xbox360, ps2, wii, psp) was a beat em up with a different story but the ds version ( which was better) had a different gameplay and boss battles
reminds me of the time I asked my dad to get me Call of Duty 2. I only had a PS2 back then so I was expecting a downgraded version of the game. Then to my surprise it's a different game since it says Big Red One on the case under Call of Duty 2. One of my fave COD titles as a teenager since graphically it wasn't impressive as the PC, but it had an interesting story and got to experience more weapon variants. It also allowed you to shoot faster for semi auto rifles and cooking nades with a timer.

I'll never forget finding Spiderman 2 for PC at goodwill like 10 years ago and expecting it to play like the PS2 version, its still an alright game but no where near the console version.
My personal pain was Spider Man: Web of Shadows that I saw on a friend's PC and was impressed. When I saw it for PSP I immediately bought it and was really disappointed that it's a completely different 2D game. Still it's a nice game that I really enjoyed.
X Men Origins Wolverine is another example... It was an entirely different game on pc /Ps3 compared to what ps2 had.

Tomb Raider Legend had a version for the Nintendo DS that was a 2D platformer.
HP and the Philosopher's stone had 5(?) completely different versions for PC, PS1, GBC, GBA and 6th gen.

Ghost rider on GBA was a treat, the gameplay was smooth and fun even tho it's very different compared to other version (as expected since its not a powerful hardware) the graphics may not be good but you gotta consider its running on Gameboy

God forbid, you play those old army men games. There are like six different versions of each game, and they are all radically different for one.
Bioshock 1 was also porter for old iphones, and graphic was much worse but it was working, the port was great

All Nickelodeon games on PC around the time were activity centers and point n click adventure titles. Some other companies, such as Disney would include both main line and activity centers for PC. Thankfully, activity centers died out later in the decade and PC users eventually got the console Battle for Bikini bottom game in the form of the Rehydrated remaster. Yes, it wasn't as good as the original, but at least you could install mods to make it a little better.

The thing with Sponge-Bob used to happen with lots, if not all Nickelodeon cartoon based games from 2000s. I still remember having watched to some Avatar episodes during a weekend (the first and true Avatar: "Last Airbender", not the blue alien matrix like production from the guy behind Terminator and Aliens) and got my mind blowing for how rich that plot and environment looked to be, so i go to the wilds in a holy hunt to grab a copy of the game for the platform i had available to play in my free time and, man... wasn't a totally a shame, but was a shame...
The PC version was so "meh" that i'm still today saying that someday i'll jump back into an Avatar game, even now being able to play almost any version i preffer to.

King Kong the videogame is different in the PSP platform because of it's hardware limitations
Tekken 6 on PSP is also different than the PS3 and Xbox 360 version since it removed the Scenario Campaign in there while the menu screen are different and downgraded the VS screen
And some WWE Smackdown VS Raw games are a bit different on other platforms, SVR 2008 and 2009 on Wii is a great example, 2008 was missing some features and 24/7 mode was replaced with a different mode, 2009 has some exclusive contents, even the characters model are different, what I mean by it is the characters models are different on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platform per game while the PS2, PSP, and Wii reuses the outdated one, just by looking at their attires they're wearing, I even remember that some of the wrestlers entrance are a bit different on some platforms because I played SVR 2008 on the PS2, John Cena throws his hat and t-shirt at the audience once he enters the ring, while in the PSP version don't, not to mention the PS2, PSP, and Wii version uses the outdated Created Superstar assets from the earlier WWE games because I dumped the textures of one of my Created Superstar on each game and they all look the same
