13:21 counterpoint, the potted plants in this game resemble the original designs of the plants much more, showing that the visual design of the garden warfare plants is actually different from the PvZ plants
Well you counted 27 Solar plants in PvZ Heroes but actually it's 28 plants since the Astrocado Pit is not in the almanac, a distinct card from the card that creates it, the Astrocado. You're welcome. Also I suppose if you didn't count the token plants I assume you also forgot to include the Magic Beanstalk which is also not in the almanac, bringing you 1 more plant in the smarty class. Also thanks for answering this question that totally keeps me up at night EDIT: Also 45:10 this is completely wrong. In Chinese, Cauliflower is 椰菜花 while Broccoli is 西蘭花 which are 2 completely different things. I suppose you got your conclusion from Google Translate but it's really inaccurate when translating between English and Chinese 🤣
hey RCCH! i think its amazing that, not only do you make your own PVZ vids (which are great btw, i watch all of them), but you are an active member of the community, and i see you in a lot of video's comment sections! Thanks for the great content!!!
I haven’t seen to far into the video but if he forgot all tokens then he’d need to add impfinity clones and octo-pult clones I’m assuming deadbeard from the barrel of dead beard doesn’t count because it’s similar to pvz pirate
your entire garden warfare section is flawed. there is actual lore differences and the characters that walk around ARE different plants from the ones in normal pvz
I did look into the comics briefly but not the books, so Ill have to do that. Also sunflower's almanac description in PvZ2 confirms that the singing sunflower is the same character
i was one of the lucky people who got to play pvz adventures, i remember liking it so much, i loved how cute the beeshooter looked and was really scared of the purple fog that covered the whole game
If you count the pea cannon at 17:55 as its own plant, you could say default garden warfare peashooter is its own plant. It doesnt have a different name, but its different functionally and visually (as its got root legs, arms, eye color and eyebrows)
its got the same name and functionality though. it shoots peas and is called peashooter. therefore it isn't a new plant by his criteria. the pea cannon shoots peas, sure, but it looks different and has a different name, therefore a new plant.
@@Soptsign555-ln6nw But another criteria is that the character is visually distinct from another, and GW peashooter is clearly different from the average peashooter with the addition of legs and arms, plus the 2 leafs on its head rather than the usual 1 leaf. In addition, it has far more capabilities being able to shoot out its own chili bean bomb and turn itself into a Gatling pea by itself without the use of plant food which should rightfully make it a unique character.
@@amistake7216 That's for the purpose of the game though. In that case, rolling wallnut would count as a new plant because it's been somewhat changed for the purpose of fitting different gameplay. Visually the same, functionally different.
Very good video. As someone who studies the pvz lore heavily I approve, but I wish you mentioned the comics because I think those are great too (English comics not the Chinese ones except for the part where the peashooter calls BS that was actually quite funny)
Amazing video, the only thing I have doubts on are not counting tricks as plants in PVZ heroes. Though some plant tricks are unanimate objects, others are actual plants that have the same function as instant use plants in PVZ/PVZ2. So while there's tricks that arent plants (like gardening gloves or photosyntethizer), theres also tricks that are plants (coffee fiesta, cherry bomb, berry angry etc.) Of the 33 tricks in the game, 10 of them are plants already existing in other games (walnut bowling (they seem to just be regular walnuts), doom shroom, grave buster, lava guava, cherry bomb, iceberg lettuce, spring bean, shrinking violet, squash and tactical cuke. The only tricks that are plants and arent present in other games are berry angry and espresso fiesta, so the plant counter should be upped by 2
@@paerrin I also thought about that, but it seems that all environments are a version of another plant (Venus fly trap, grapes of wrath and sour Berry, pear pair), so i don't think they count as their own characters
@@Fefe65800 That's fair. I still think that they should be counted separately because it's "Environment" trait is clearly different in both aesthetically and functionally.
What about Dave's mold colonies and flowers that mustn't be trampled (level gimmicks from PvZ 2)? They have their own mechanic and visual design, and they're on plant's side (they make the game harder, but they don't attack us, plus we need to protect them) so it's at least 2 points for them being unique plants
By your criteria, shouldn't the flower line from PvZ2 count as a plant? They look distinct visually and have a unique gameplay mechanic. You could even argue that the objective surrounding them gives them the unique moniker "flowers". Currently at 11:52, so maybe this gets addressed, but I think its interesting.
@@Vivian-Butterscotch just because its not on the players side, doesnt mean its not on the plants side. you lose when the zombies trample the flowers, thats the ZOMBIES hurting a PLANT. its just a mechanic
I've learned so many things about PvZ today, I didn't expect this video to be so deep! I liked it a lot! Oh, and as a suggestion, if I were you I would have put the extra characters that you missed at the end of the video, so you don't have to carry the problem over the entirety of it.
Are you taking the giant sunflower and giant marigold from the cancelled mini game "big time" into account as well? Because I didn't hear you mentioning them
Counting cut plants wouldn’t make much sense, the Doom & Bloom beta also had a lot of unique plants that aren’t actually IN any official releases. Even though the limbo page is still in the code, it’s intentionally unused.
I fully heard you say you were going to be incredibly in-depth. But even 4 minutes in, I severely underestimated your ability to deeply analyse and am hooked
10:16 You didn't include the seeds But no way, this is an amazing video, the real and accurate number of plants in PvZ is finally revealed thanks to you, i will subscribe.
Actually, let me say that Stumpy from the first dave bot mission should be counted as a unique person as one, he functions as an NPC that follows the player and while he does the same attacks as the Stump boss, I would argue that due to the unique behavior and the fact that he can talk to the player make him unique enough concept wise... also he has a unique name, making that 2 points in my opinion. #LoveForStumpy
technically, you could count the cat mecha in the infinity mode from pvz gw2 on the zombie side as a plant character after your definition because it is non human, it works not like the dino on the plant side but attacks the same. The only problem is that it attacks plants too
you're part of the emerging UA-cam genre of "heavily overqualified man slowly descends into madness while trying to answer the most innocuous questions" an international variation of"British man slowly loses his mind"
By your criteria, regular walnut from wallnut bowling should be a unique plant, as it has unique functionality(distinct from regular wall-nut), and aesthetics, as it is wallnut turned around in different directions. So, two out of three.
but its starting position when you place it is the same, you would not say that the potato mine is different aesthetically just because it moves after you place it
Holy shit I remember playing PvZ Adventure when it first came out but haven't heard anyone ever talk about since so I'd almost convinced myself that the vague memories I had of it were of some other game that I was mistaking for PvZ spinoff or that I had just it up entirely. Thank you for validating my memories of it's existence.
34:00 actually made me laugh out loud lol, take my sub. i'm one of the two people that played it. hyperfixated on this game for a bit as a wee kid and was devastated when it got shut down
your honor, by the rules set by the 'tuber, the grass should be considered as an individual it has a unique feature (can be planted on without additional sun) visually distinct from every other plant and is on the plants side of the lawn
The random tree in the loading screen should also be counted as an individual character as it functions as a decoration(to make the loading screen look better) and it looks a bit more purple which is unique from other trees.
Really great effort put into this video and I like a lot of it. Something about the video though is that a lot of it is a bit pedantic which makes it kind of difficult to sit through - of course we all know that power food plants don’t count as a new character, of course the balloons aren’t a new character. It feels like a lot of what you included in the script were just unnecessary details to make the runtime of the video longer. This would have been improved if all the unnecessary details were shaved off, which when watching the video felt like it would take off a good 20 minutes from that inexplicably long runtime 😭 Nice video and nice effort regardless!
This video is so awesome and I really enjoyed watching it, it is so well made and really interesting to watch, but if you could you should try look at the plants that are only exclusive to the book series that is based of the games if those plants count for this video!
I was just talking to a friend the other day about games that disappeared and we both thought that PvZ only had the original game and the first Garden Warfare game. I am only learning about all the other ones now
I'm sitting here doing homework. Meanwhile I'm watching a electronic animation about some guy ranting about how different names of not that is in tall is called a tall nut. Alongside him saying,, ice pea shooter! kill me now"
When talking about the Zomboids, you went over the basic three. But unlike most Plant Food effects, the Zomboid Gargantuar is separate from the effect and would count alongside the trio of normal Zomboids according to how you ruled them. There was even Zomboid Gargantuars in the background, so surprised that wasn't mentioned in the PvZ2 part.
half of this video just looks rushed as fuck. bro counts something that is not even a plant leading into not actually knowing WHAT THE REAL number of olants is
5:31 I think if you count the Air Raid flower pot, then the Heat Wave peashooters would also count. They look different, have a different function, and use a mechanic found nowhere else in the game. They’re no less unique than repeater but to the left or wall-nut but big. (No this is not an excuse to talk about one of my favorite mini-games, shut up)
@@Luigicat11 Well, technically, they behave differently for the entire level because of the heatwave. Normal peashooters can’t wilt or turn orange. The wall-nuts, zombies, and ice trails aren’t affected by the heat, so I say it’s the peashooters that are different.
To my knowledge these are just temporary powered up states of peashooter, while backwards repeater and giant wall nut have their own seed packets and are planted directly and are permanent forms rather than temporary.
@@username5155 Imo the peashooters are wilting and turning orange because the level is the only level that has the heat wave rather than them being different plants themselves. But the fact that you can move them around is compelling so I will have to look into it for the next video
Also Heatwave Peashooters getting dried in the sun is unique. If you give fire peashooter in PVZ 2 water in the Zen Garden, she becomes a normal pea during the animation. (Fire peashooter does have a different gender so she'd still count as a different plant to normal Peashooter) But this means Peashooters would generally be okay with heat as long as it's not heat from a zombie, also notable how they are fine in Big Wave Beach which is obviously going to be heated like in the summer since it IS the summer. Also Peashooters generally use plant food to boost, blowing onto one to speed it up makes it even more special. If course this also caused it to go from burned to find again and normal peas can't be saved from fire if you're blowing on them. You can try with blowver or hurrikale.
This video is UNWATCHABLE because you forgot my favorite plant from: I am a Teacher: Super Zombie Planter. PLEASE add that into part 2: How Many Plants are there in Plants vs. Zombies NOW?
Question: Will you talk about the plants vs. zombies comics? because there are definitely more characters there(tho to my memory not very many in terms of the plants side). Also, love the video looking forward to part 2
Wouldn't Mo count as the 5th original PvZ3 character? It has a unique name and design. One might argue it also has a unique functionality as it can move between lines unlike other lawnmowers
Originally called 'Smart Mower,' which is a terrible generic name. I'm guessing they changed that to Mo after rewatching Wall-E. Either way, both his name and design are hardly unique, because the 'A.I.-cronym' and 'TV Head Robot' cliches have been done to death.
@@Grundrissethat’s not what the criteria is based off of though, it’s based off of other plants. The design and name have to be unique compared to other plants, not compared to all of fiction or reality or whatever. A sunflower is literally just a sunflower with a face which isn’t unique in design or name, so it shouldn’t be a unique plant if that were the case.
@@justamicrowave5297 Mo isn't a plant. If what meets the criteria is just inserting something filled with cliches that happens to be different from other characters, then it isn't unique at all.

13:21 counterpoint, the potted plants in this game resemble the original designs of the plants much more, showing that the visual design of the garden warfare plants is actually different from the PvZ plants
Crazy Dave went crazy only because he had to count his plants
The fact the tree of wisdom can commit credit card fraud is insane lol
Didn't include Pumpkin Wildflower or Gatling Pea Zomboid, literally unwatchable.
It’s you!
True
Not even noctarinecloud 🙄
I mean to be fair, pvz games will always update, thus always outdating the video.
Didn’t give Jake miller the benefit of the doubt and instantly antagonized him over a simple mistake
I actually remember playing plants vs zombies adventures but just thought it was a weird fabricated memory, glad to know it did actually exist
Also thanks for answering this question that totally keeps me up at night
EDIT: Also 45:10 this is completely wrong. In Chinese, Cauliflower is 椰菜花 while Broccoli is 西蘭花 which are 2 completely different things. I suppose you got your conclusion from Google Translate but it's really inaccurate when translating between English and Chinese 🤣
You here? Thats unexpected
hey RCCH! i think its amazing that, not only do you make your own PVZ vids (which are great btw, i watch all of them), but you are an active member of the community, and i see you in a lot of video's comment sections! Thanks for the great content!!!
bro is a chinese teacher defo
I haven’t seen to far into the video but if he forgot all tokens then he’d need to add impfinity clones and octo-pult clones I’m assuming deadbeard from the barrel of dead beard doesn’t count because it’s similar to pvz pirate
WTF
your entire garden warfare section is flawed. there is actual lore differences and the characters that walk around ARE different plants from the ones in normal pvz
So should they have been exceptions?
@@anthonybustamante5736 yeah
@@Gloomsvalealso gw pea have "arms" when the 2d dont
@@user-un2pf4ht9l That specific detail was explicitly addressed in the video
You might know but the books have hundreds of different characters in the background, and you DIDNT COUNT THE SINGING SUNFLOWER FROM THE FIRST GAME
It doesnt have a different name, but its different functionally and visually (as its got root legs, arms, eye color and eyebrows)
its got the same name and functionality though. it shoots peas and is called peashooter. therefore it isn't a new plant by his criteria. the pea cannon shoots peas, sure, but it looks different and has a different name, therefore a new plant.
and I'm saying it has the same functionality because it shoots peas at zombies. that is the same functionality.
35:12 tallnut flower
23:23 wallnut tallnut
4:25 TreeMcTreeface
Very good video. As someone who studies the pvz lore heavily I approve, but I wish you mentioned the comics because I think those are great too (English comics not the Chinese ones except for the part where the peashooter calls BS that was actually quite funny)
Amazing video, the only thing I have doubts on are not counting tricks as plants in PVZ heroes. Though some plant tricks are unanimate objects, others are actual plants that have the same function as instant use plants in PVZ/PVZ2.
So while there's tricks that arent plants (like gardening gloves or photosyntethizer), theres also tricks that are plants (coffee fiesta, cherry bomb, berry angry etc.)
Of the 33 tricks in the game, 10 of them are plants already existing in other games (walnut bowling (they seem to just be regular walnuts), doom shroom, grave buster, lava guava, cherry bomb, iceberg lettuce, spring bean, shrinking violet, squash and tactical cuke.
The only tricks that are plants and arent present in other games are berry angry and espresso fiesta, so the plant counter should be upped by 2
I'd even argue that environments like The Red Plant-It, Planet of the Grapes, and Pear Pearadise which are clearly animate should also count as plants
They also have faces.
you know the answer is complicated when you have to make a 56 minute video on a simple question
4:04 say that again..
Talk too? More like talk tuah 😂😂
Beat me to it
I thought the same thing 🌚
GET OUT OF MY HEAD
GET OUT
11:42 holy moly, that was a very smooth transition, didnt even see it coming
I like that you explored every single PvZ game even ones that aren't widely played (I play PvZ heroes a lot) Awesome video!
0:26 im going to guess there are 352
By your criteria, shouldn't the flower line from PvZ2 count as a plant? They look distinct visually and have a unique gameplay mechanic. You could even argue that the objective surrounding them gives them the unique moniker "flowers". Currently at 11:52, so maybe this gets addressed, but I think its interesting.
They're not on the side of the plants
@@Vivian-Butterscotch yes they are?? lmfao
@@FuryTheFurious they actively make the game harder
@@Vivian-Butterscotch just because its not on the players side, doesnt mean its not on the plants side. you lose when the zombies trample the flowers, thats the ZOMBIES hurting a PLANT. its just a mechanic
@@FuryTheFurious yeah I don't know what I was cooking originally
Your right
46:00 honestly that ghost pepper is adorable i love it so much
In pvz heroes there some cards that are called tokens there are a few more plants to put
@@username5155 I would only count these two because they are still in the game, even though they are unobtainable.
He did include Rotten Red who was a plant that was removed.
I would say plants that were or are in the game with functionally should all count.
@DreamingNightmares
Rotten Red was in a publicly released version, though.
I fully heard you say you were going to be incredibly in-depth. But even 4 minutes in, I severely underestimated your ability to deeply analyse and am hooked
10:16 You didn't include the seeds
But no way, this is an amazing video, the real and accurate number of plants in PvZ is finally revealed thanks to you, i will subscribe.
53:17 excuse me, but WHAT?!?!?!? i agree with you tho, he looks more insane than influenced by coe caine.
My biggest takeaway is that the garden warfare team was probably having a stroke while naming some of the characters
The only problem is that it attacks plants too
Did he forget grass guys? grass is a plant on the plants side, its impossible to plant without it or a pot!
YOU CAN'T EVEN PLANT FLOWER POTS WITHOUT GRASS

plot twist: he was the one who created the pvz wiki
Hi
man if he actually did then he needs to be fired. becuz this video barely makes sense. 💀
you're part of the emerging UA-cam genre of "heavily overqualified man slowly descends into madness while trying to answer the most innocuous questions"
an international variation of"British man slowly loses his mind"
By your criteria, regular walnut from wallnut bowling should be a unique plant, as it has unique functionality(distinct from regular wall-nut), and aesthetics, as it is wallnut turned around in different directions. So, two out of three.
but its starting position when you place it is the same, you would not say that the potato mine is different aesthetically just because it moves after you place it
Oh my god this is "everything is senseless cause there's no consensus" all over again.
That fucking ice pea-snow pea shit has been getting at me for YEARS!
Good to see you are a fellow jan Misali enjoyer.
34:00 actually made me laugh out loud lol, take my sub. i'm one of the two people that played it. hyperfixated on this game for a bit as a wee kid and was devastated when it got shut down
20:51 bro did Snap Dragon and Doom Shroom so dirty😭
1:52 caseoh Wall nut
That had me cracking
your honor, by the rules set by the 'tuber, the grass should be considered as an individual
it has a unique feature (can be planted on without additional sun)
visually distinct from every other plant and is on the plants side of the lawn
The random tree in the loading screen should also be counted as an individual character as it functions as a decoration(to make the loading screen look better) and it looks a bit more purple which is unique from other trees.
exactly.. we never knowing the real number even with this video dawg. bro made it even more confusing @Louiessss
@@Louiessssit has no function as the player cannot interact with it, much like the grass on the lawn
tbh with the criteria he used for garden warfare 1, the backwards repeater and mega gatling pea are basicly the same plants as their counterparts
Zomboss WELL THIS IS GOING TO BE HARDER THEN I EXPECTED
Really great effort put into this video and I like a lot of it. Something about the video though is that a lot of it is a bit pedantic which makes it kind of difficult to sit through - of course we all know that power food plants don’t count as a new character, of course the balloons aren’t a new character. It feels like a lot of what you included in the script were just unnecessary details to make the runtime of the video longer. This would have been improved if all the unnecessary details were shaved off, which when watching the video felt like it would take off a good 20 minutes from that inexplicably long runtime 😭
Nice video and nice effort regardless!
Bro is doing god's work 🙏
This video is so awesome and I really enjoyed watching it, it is so well made and really interesting to watch, but if you could you should try look at the plants that are only exclusive to the book series that is based of the games if those plants count for this video!
Well made? hardly, contradicts itself everytime and doesnt even try to stay within its own rules
12:02 Grapes of wrath was in PvZ heros. With a similar appearance. You could say he is “New” but it’s still popcap recycling old obscure plants.
Alongside him saying,, ice pea shooter! kill me now"
I feel bad for you (I never had homework but my brother did)
When talking about the Zomboids, you went over the basic three.
8 bit peashooter does the same thing as a regular peashooter it’s just 8 bit but it’s still a different character

We need a whole hour for counting all pvz plants: ✔
half of this video just looks rushed as fuck. bro counts something that is not even a plant leading into not actually knowing WHAT THE REAL number of olants is
There’s a part 2??! That’s insane

i think marigold sprout is different from a "regular" plant sprout from pvz1 zen garden? although they are quite similar

WAKE UP BABE THAT INE KOALA GUY UPLOADED
why is this an hour long, it shouldn't be that hard
*One hour later*
oh... I see
This was much more productive than writing my collage essay
5:31 I think if you count the Air Raid flower pot, then the Heat Wave peashooters would also count. They look different, have a different function, and use a mechanic found nowhere else in the game. They’re no less unique than repeater but to the left or wall-nut but big.
(No this is not an excuse to talk about one of my favorite mini-games, shut up)
The later "temporary power-up" rule that was used to rule out Plant Food forms disqualifies them, unfortunately.
(Fire peashooter does have a different gender so she'd still count as a different plant to normal Peashooter)
But this means Peashooters would generally be okay with heat as long as it's not heat from a zombie, also notable how they are fine in Big Wave Beach which is obviously going to be heated like in the summer since it IS the summer.
Also Peashooters generally use plant food to boost, blowing onto one to speed it up makes it even more special.
If course this also caused it to go from burned to find again and normal peas can't be saved from fire if you're blowing on them. You can try with blowver or hurrikale.
great video! im hoenstly obsessed w/ the title card LOL
bro really uploaded twice

you've probably been asked this but...
zombie side when?
Lore wise, an infinite amount.
I love how jan misali's "how many Super Mario games are there" has become so iconic, its become a format for other videos by various creators, similar to Bill Wurtz' "history of the entire world, i guess".
