    Had one for years. Rugged as a tractor, versatile like nothing else. Brilliant with passive AND active basses

    Had this amp for 12 years. Designed and built in America! It’s been amazing to me.

    I have a 700RB II 2 10 combo wich uses the same head. It's probably the best sounding amp I've ever had in the 40 years I've been playing, and I've owned quite a few.

    Hey Norm... Christos .. great to see you.... have to agree on the high current capacity on these amps ... been using it for my dual element Butt Kicker for years. Those have blown other heads before but GK 700 can really drive and the cooling systems has no problem...

    I play funk too punk. My band was recorded in January 2016 professionally. I use this exact ahead and play it through a 410 Neo cab. The sound engineer used the DI on my head; was told it was one of the best sounding that he had used. Personally, I feel this head is definitely worth the investment.

    I feel very lucky a friend sold me his 1999 1001 RB with 2x12 neo cab for $100. Have been gigging with it since 2009.

    I’m interested in getting this head, but I run an ampeg 4x10 4 ohm cabinet, my concern is the speakon jacks. Can I run one end designed for the gk and one side that’s universal? And if I do that, will I also be able to power my tweeter? Thank you.

    I have an all tube that's in the shop... again... was thinking of going solid state. Would this be a good substitute? I run allot of pedals too. Does this amp handle them well? So far I'm just finding allot of slapping and popping. And that's not my style even a little bit...

      ***** Yeah i ended up getting one. It came with a 2 channel speakon to access bi-amp mode. The bi amp mode does not work as well as i thought it would. the tweeter only works clearly when you are grooving to songs that have alot of slapping.

    What technique is Norm using at 5:30?? I have never seen that type of plucked harmonic and I am super interested... Anyone have any leads on how to do that?

    • @saintlotus93
      @saintlotus93 7 років тому +4

      He's placing his right index finger on the string where the harmonic is above the pick up, then using his other finger to pluck the note. Just imagine your fret board kept going and put your index (or thumb which is what I use) where the fret would be over the pickup. Or just slide your resting finger back and forth until you find the harmonic you want. If you want a more aggressive harmonic you can also do it with just your thumb, where you pluck down threw and angle the tip your thumb back up instantly to lightly touch the string. If you've even done a pinch harmonic on guitar just imagine your thumb is the pick.

    Love the sound of this amp but no headphone jack, no RCA jacks if you want to play along with your iPod and the effect send and return are in the front. Love the amp but I wish they would have included a few more bells and whistles.

    • @pjmuck
      @pjmuck 7 років тому

      I agree. I don't like all the clutter of wires on the front of the amp with DI, effects send/return connections, etc. Much prefer connections on the back like the old 800RB. Great sounds though

  • @ziofrenko
    @ziofrenko 8 років тому

    The effect of the presence pot is affected by "hi cut" on the woofer.
    look the block diagram, the DI output it's only on the woofer output!!!!!
    the woofer hi cut take out above 5khz... the presence pot work on 9khz.
    on the video indeed i don't feel big differences when you move the presence pot ;)

    Does anyone knows of a good Gallien Krueger 400 or 800RB Impulse Response (IR) which can be used on a Fractal AX8?

    I'm thinking about getting one of these to run through a gk 2x12 cab paired with a gk 1x12 cab. My question is will the cabs have enough low end or will I need to run the head through more speakers like a 4x10 with a 1x15?

    • @soulriderscwb
      @soulriderscwb 9 років тому

      Yes, you can use 2 eight-ohms cabinets together.
      From the manual:
      Impedances lower than 4 Ohms should not be used. Higher impedances such as 8 Ohms, 16 Ohms, or no load are acceptable. One 4 Ohm, one 8 Ohm, or two 8 Ohm
      cabinets are okay. One 4 Ohm and one 8 Ohm together is not recommended.

    "Very musical stuff"
    - Norm Stockton.
    I bought this today; I don't actually own a cab so I can't test it, but it would be useful for gigs where I can use other peoples cabs. I asked why the Tweeter wasn't working, and I was told that the Tweeter only works with 2 cabs and the horn and tweeter use for specific cabs. Is this right or did they just sell me a broken head?

    • @jefersontorres
      @jefersontorres 9 років тому

      gasmaskboi19371945 Since so, did you test it? How do you like it?

    • @gasmaskboi19371945
      @gasmaskboi19371945 9 років тому +1

      ***** I tested it at the store and the tweeter wasn't doing anything. I still haven't tested it on any other cabs yet. I've been drumming a lot more than I have been playing as of recent.

      You just liked my comment and reminded me: I was at a band practice today and brought the amp head along with me to plug into a Peavey 410 cab: no sound was coming out of the cab when I plugged my head into it - no idea why. Do I have to use specific speaker cables or was the amp automatically clipping the sound because the impedance of the cab was 300w, when the wattage of the head is 480w?
      It was working with the other head that was plugged in during the time - a Laney RBH to be specific.

      gasmaskboi19371945 "Do I have to use specific speaker cables or was the amp automatically clipping the sound because the impedance of the cab was 300w, when the wattage of the head is 480w?" Both options may be right... I'm thinking of buying one of these, or a 400RB IV, but I confess your comment let me in doubt... Anyway, please, if you can solve the problem, let me know. It may be the case you're not using the right cable and/or the difference of wattage.

      ***** I'm gonna try it with a different cab somewhere sometime. I need to know ASAP whether there's a definite problem with the head or not. Also, take note that I bought this second hand too,
