- This is part two of two, starting with Courtney Kupets and one of the best Beam saves ever, and finishing with Carly Patterson's excellent Floor Exercise which sealed the deal and won her the Gold, much to the chagrin of Svetlana Khorkina :)

Kupet is an incredible gymnast and such a shame to have the leg injury at the most important event of her gymnastics career. I believe in my heart that if she wasn't in so much pain, she would have been a medal contender.

Seeing Martha's reaction was great. She went on to cheer like that again for the next two Olympics.

There’s a sense of cattiness when Carly is asked about other gymnasts or if she mentions them like ‘ohh that’s too bad’ when Romanian gymnast fell. Maybe just that teenage thing
I can do that--I had to look at that video again to remember what all I left out. I also left out the Bob Costas interview cause at the time I couldn't upload videos longer than 15 minutes, so I'll include that too. I should have that up sometime in the next couple of days.
Going into the games, Kupets, Patterson and McCool were ALL considered gold medal contenders. McCool had already WON the test event in Athens, but was not given a shot at the real deal because of her mistakes in the pre-lims. Kupets had that unfortunate injury 2 days before the AA so she was definitely not in top shape, but she went on to become the best NCAA gymnast of all time, so still a great career. Carly's performance in the AA was magnificent, so the gold medal was much deserved.
Carly deserved to win but her win is blah. She is probably the weakest gymnast to win the AA. People rag on MLR's win due to the boycott but even with the boycott the field was better than this one. Who was Carly's competition? Only a WAY past her prime grandma Khorkina, and even Khorkina would have beaten her with her team finals beam and floor routines which were considerably worse in the AA finals. An absolute peak Szabo who queen MLR beat is clearly better than a way past her prime Khorkina, and that field had depth with McNamara, Pauca, Cutina, Agache, Ma, who were all strong gymnasts while this field had no depth at all, no good gymnasts besides Carly, old Khorkina, and maybe Pavlova who has a 9.6 start value on bars which takes her out of any contention although was still robbed of silver and bronze by bad judging even with her bars. Ponor was really the best gymnast but since she didn't do bars she was ineligible for the AA. Considering her vault, beam, and floor are all better than Carly's, she probably wins if she just trains a half decent bars set.
Bhardwaj would have been in the AA final actually had she hit her double yurchenko in prelims and the field was so terrible she probably wins silver behind Patterson which says it all, haha.
