I'm from England but I have to say, the USA produces some of the most amazing gymnasts. This was 4 years ago and even this year in the Rio Olympics they've come back with a bang again!! I'm so amazed
I love Aly Raismen so much !!! She’s an incredible gymnast and she had to hold back being too excited about qualifying for AA bc she is respectful and didn’t want to rub it in Jordan’s face . She earned it very fairly even so . I’m so glad she came back again in 2016 and medaled in the Olympics . She has such a beautiful spirit, I love watching her compete .
She's incredible! Such exciting, explosive skills. Blows me away. I REALLY wish she'd won the bars gold. Nothing against Musty but her set is just not that exciting--Beth's brings you to your feet!
I don't get people saying it *should* have been Aly and Jordyn in the AA. Gabby won a gold medal for her country and you're complaining about it? Cute.
HellsOnlyBelle Are you joking? Aly qualified first then Gabby. If either Aly or Gabby were to be knocked out by Jordyn it would've been Gabby in that situation. Sure it would've impacted the AA but Aly was in there either way, not Gabby.
I like how the commentators and camera people didn't focus on Aly at all, they didn't show her bars or beam. They clearly didn't expect her to make the all around final. They were also commenting on how Jordyn would have to "fight" in the all around final... it's like it didn't even occur to them that she might not make the final.
@@lanniw3877 You're right: she underestimated Aly in particular. The fact is that she had a chance when Gabby opened the door by making a huge mistake on her floor routine. But Jordyn failed to close the gap with a routine which had to be near perfect: as it was, one step-out-of bounds made the difference ...
No I don't think so. Jordyn had the fourth-best beam score which was dropped. Aly had the best beam score and she still wasn't shown. I think they assumed aly would be on the beam and floor final but they didn't have to worry about showing her now.
At the end, you can see after Aly is done with her interview, the cameraman motions for the interviewer to try and get Jordyn's attention...and she is NOT HAVING IT, and Aly is trying to walk as far away as possible. Good for you, Jordyn. That was classless on the media's part.
It really is the fault of Wieber's coaches that she didn't qualify. If they would have been paying attention to the results of previous competitions, they would have realized that they needed to make some changes. Also, I think Jordyn was thinking she was a lock because of her USA and world titles. She and her coaches underestimated her teammates.
Kyla Ross even could have beat her if in the quals she has a potential 6.8 bars 6.2 Beam a 5.8 floor and a amanar she had the best execution too sham she could make finals
@@alicesherson4894 Maybe, but realistically it also doesn't help that this was a year in the making. Everyone around her was upping their game and you could see this throughout all of 2012. She won and a lot but people were hyping her up as this super dominant gymnast but were kind of ignoring the fact that she was JUST winning by a hair. A good example is her beam routine. Her SV was high but she rarely made her connections and this was nothing new. She in general was loosing small points here and there on all the apparatuses. Jordyn wasn't in a Simone position, where tiny mistakes wont make a huge difference. She was in a position where she couldn't afford mistakes, and even with a hit 4/4, she still was never a lock for the 2 AA spots.
@@neversaygoodluck It is true. Komova, Gabby and Aly upped their routines for the Olympics. Geddart took for granted she would win the Olympic AA. Jordyn was also overhyped. I still don't really count her 2009 American Cup win cause she was 14 and from what I know you have to be 16. Her wins were by a few tenths. Gabby wasn't officially in the 2012 American cup but she was beating Jordyn. Even Liukin made a point about Nastia in 2005 when she was at nationals, she's had too much winning and there's going to come a time when you won't win, and every little tenth counts. That's what happened. Bela blamed the line up but if Jordyn did go last she wouldn't have gotten the all around. Yeah you're friends with your teammates but they are also your competition.
@@ineedhoez ikr jordan and grace kinda fell apart they would have been so much better putting Mykayla on the main team and bringing Riley as the other individual
Jelena Lena Totally disagree. Too much emphasis on “art” and “elegance”. This is the Olympics. All about athleticism, or it should be. If you wanna see those attributes, go to the ballet.
Frankie K Hey, Frankie! It’s my understanding that they’re required to emphasize the “art” and “elegance” as this is, quite literally, *artistic gymnastics.* The women are required to showcase their grace and elegance through dance, along with strength and agility. However, the men are not. They’re scored solely on their strength and skill. Hope this helps to sort out any confusion, doesn’t come across as hateful and that this finds you well!
Charlie Brown McElroy Oh. I completely understood. You just missed my disagreement with it. It’s a total contradiction. Where is the “grace” and “elegance” represented on the vault? Never seen any on that apparatus, ever. That is solely ability. Edit: I have never seen a highlight of someone’s beautiful pirouette during floor repeated over and over.
Frankie K Oh, absolutely! It’s frustrating. In my mind the grace comes into play while the gymnast is in the air. Although, it is primarily strength and agility in vault and tumble they are also scored on their form and long lines. Here lately though it seems we have a bunch of power houses who CAN hold the same form/lines in the air, it just doesn’t look as graceful. I don’t know, I feel like I’m not making a lick of sense, and I’m just rambling for the sake of conversation. Regardless, I do agree with you and also thank you for the polite response and I hope I didn’t upset or offend you in any way.
so im showing my mom Jordyn's floor routine and after it she says "she souldn't be plucking her eyebrows..." and im like "this is one of the greatest things you will EVER see and your complaining about her EYEBROWS?!?!?!?"
@@Lovememore231 I think you could spare some sympathy for Jordyn. It wasn't her fault that the media overhyped her. Aly deserved her moment and never really got it, and that really is a shame.
She got floor gold and then all around and floor silvers in Rio in addition to teams golds both times. She got her moment and it was well deserved. Aly was extremely strong especially on beam and floor.
All of these young women are phenomenal in their skills and talents. However it strikes such a chord when you watch these ladies from the US and realize what they were dealing with from coaches and doctors on top of the pressures of just performing! Everyone of these athletes deserves a gold medal for courage and perseverance!!
I am so tired of all of these comments saying "Gabby shouldn't have qualified in AA Jordyn should have" you are not the judges are you? Now don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVE Jordyn Wieber but the judges saw what they saw and the people in the comment section are not the judges BTW love the fierce five: )
@@running_girl5512 Umm, the Americans finished 13th, 14th and 19th. The only country that would have benefited in 2000 from a two per country rule is China. So where exactly are you getting the idea that the US was "all pissed" about Romania sweeping? And how exactly is it that you think they are to blame for the rule change?
I think they should adapt the rule so that it does not apply to the top ten finishers. It's the Olympics. I want to see the best gymnasts compete in the all-around. I want the medals to go to the best gymnasts in the world. No one who qualifies in the top ten should have to sit the competition out for the sake of including more countries in the final.
@@sydneyo5500 they were one of the countries that supported it because Romania swept, it didnt matter where Americans finished as they were all screwed that year with the bad set up for vault as Elise fell who was their main hope in the all around. Maybe you need to learn your facts before you comment and learn the history of the sport. America was one of bigger supporters of 2 per a country to avoid the sweeps of one country and give better chance on the individual apparatus especially back when they were not top dog, now that they are the dominant country they do not like the rule . You show where the gymnastics finished that year but neglected to point out how fucked up the competition was when the vault was set to low and actually took out the main competitors which included 1 American.
@@running_girl5512 I am fully aware of what happened with the vault in 2000. I'm happy to learn more about the sport if you have evidence that the US was "pissed off" about Romania sweeping or that they are somehow solely to blame for the two per country rule. While you're looking for that evidence, maybe chill out a little. There's no need to be hostile.
I hadnt watched this in years. One thing i noticed, at the end-when speaking with the british gymnasr(presumably about Jordyn), aly says(i think; i am lip reading after all),”i have to room with her.” Bless their hearts. They have both grown i to amazing women, both doing wonderful things for other young women. Theyre both super heroes in their own right!! 🤸🏻♂️🤸🏻♂️🧘🏻♀️🏅🏅❤️🤍💙✝️✡️☮️🚺🇺🇸
Aly qualified first on paper but in the actual qualifications it came down to either Aly qualifying or Jordyn qualifying. There were only 2 spots and Gabby had already secured hers even before Aly finished her floor routine so really she was the first gymnast to get through ahead of Jordyn.
I didn't clue in until 30 minutes in that it was Shannon Miller broadcasting. She was so positive and supportive of the gymnasts from every country, I thought she was Canadian! And why the bleep wasn't Kyla Ross in the AA? She was so gorgeous.
Man, this is the first Olympics where I love nearly ALL the leotards! It's just one gorgeous leo after another. In years before I MIGHT find 2 that I liked, but this year they're all just stunning.
Such a happy moment for Aly and such a sad one for Jordyn. It looked like Aly couldn't celebrate properly because she didn't want to hurt Jordyn. All three should have been in the AA in my opinion. I don't like the 2 per country rule. The best should be allowed to compete against the best.
She is DEFINITELY an incredible woman. Smart, talented beyond measure, a fierce and strong, yet classy and sportsmanlike competitor, and knowing all that we now know, she's just an incomparable human being. 🎀💖
While I don’t deny that Jordyn was overhyped coming into these qualifiers, you can’t deny how heartbreaking it is to watch her here. Especially when you consider how awful John Geddart was and everything else she was suffering through, not to mention the horrific rude backlash she received after the fact… truly a sad situation all around
@@ashleyc8373 Him not being allowed on the floor was because the rules at the Olympics only allow so many coaches out there for each event. But he was awful. He is no longer inflicting his practices on anyone, however, as he has passed away. I do not wish his end on anyone, even him, but I'm not sorry he's no longer hurting gymnasts.
I'm not really rooting for any country, what matters is that all of these girls are so talented! Sure they may have not landed perfectly or did something wrong, but they really are amazing
Random, but I'd forgotten about these Team USA Leo's. I really like the design, the star placement, and that color is really elegant. I could go on and on about how amazing all these ladies are, but we all know!💪💪💖
That being said, I think Shannon is fantastic. She's my favorite gymnast of all-time, and I know she could easily be my favorite commentator too... I love Nastia also, but I think Shannon's maturity makes her a more fluid and aware commentator at this point than Nastia.
Shannon is my all-time favorite gymnast and she really is an outstanding commentator. Nastia does very well also- I can't help but feel like she's a bit stifled by Tim Daggett and Al Trautwig, both of whom are consistently out of touch and patronising. With better co-anchors, I think Nastia would really shine!🌺
If Shannon is the one currently talking… I didn’t like her comment about the USA team being overzealous bc they went out of bounds during floor. They are powerful gymnastics and ten years later USA team still flys out of bounds… it’s just what they do.
shannon miller (former olympic champion and gymnast extrodinare) and steve robilliard (an australian sports journalist with the australian broadcasting corp (abc)). top notch commentating from them both!
why dont the coaches make their gymnasts take ballet classes xD it would improve their balance SO much, maybe even some tightrope classes would help xD
Willow Burger I know! There used to be a much bigger emphasis on ballet training and good technique, and the sport was more of an art form back then. So much prettier, and now they are all muscle bound and its all about the biggest tricks and most power. Not so pretty anymore
I agree with you @Willow and @Mary Ann Payntor. But people will say "the sport has evolved and you must move on" , "your opinion is a minority". Yet it really does help with precision of spins, leaps, lines, toe point, stage presence and choreography, and balance. But the sport seems to only care about difficulty nowadays, to the point where the AA winner can win with 2 falls. Balance beam has become an event with zero balance due to there being no balance and "fluidity"and too much acro ability.
Once upon a time, ballet training was an "unofficial official requirement" for all gymnasts. Even if that gymnast had no desire to perform ballet, the basics, the fundamentals would be a TREMENDOUS help- poise, discipline, toe point, turns, flexibility, timing, spatial awareness/spotting during turns.... There's so much that ballet fundamentals can do for a gymnast!
I’ve rewatched this so many times and Jordyn competed almost “comfortably” which I think shows the outcome. On top of Gabby showing up and peaking when it matters.
All the gymnast worked, trained and sacrificed for years with dreams to go to the Olympics, Rebecca Bross was favored to lead the Olympic team until she was injured and was never the same. The last three competitions Jordan, Aly, McKayla and Gabby were always in the mix and excellent AA Gymnast. McKayla was expected to do floor instead of Gabby, until she was injured, Because she was so good on vault she was selected. Jordan was struggling in her last three competitions, Bars and Beam were not her strong points, Beam wasn't Gabby's strong point, but did qualify for AA, Bars and Beam, and if she hadn't of bounce out of bounds possibly floor, Aly AA, Beam and Floor, Jordan Floor, McKayla Vault, Gabby stepped up her game and came through when it counted, If she hadn't, Russia would have been leading going into floor and could have changed everything They would have been the ones doing the safe solid routines and the US would have been doing the catching up. Gabby earned her AA, as did Aly, As we now know, There is no doubt in my mind that Nasser played a major roll in all the girls mental status when they needed to focus the most. Both leading up to the Olympics and during the Olympics. Which would explain Jordan's many small mental mistakes, Aly's errors on Beam, and gabby;s performance during individual Bars and Beam, neither look the same while performing.
The entire team was full of great gymnasts. The round only scored the performances on this day. This one day does not define a gymnasts but it did impact what other finals they would be in. Yes, it would have been great to see all 3 of them in the AA final, but we knew this was not possible. Gabby and Aly qualified just like Simone and Aly did in 2016. Clean cut, those are the results. No one else deserved or should have been in their spots because the earned them. Give all the women credit for what they earned on this day.
I think she was overwhelmed because this was her first Olympics and her team just slayed everyone else and won. So I think she distanced herself to get her emotions together because her body was reacting. When you train an train an train and then you go to the Olympics and work hard and then your team wins and gets to go to the final, your body is just like "Did I just do that? Did we just slay everyone and win the first round? Oh my god!" It's something she's never experienced before and she needs a couple of minutes to take it all in an process it so she doesn't freak out. That's what I think was happening, I don't think she was just standing there alone, I think she did it because she was overwhelmed that she just did what she did.
yeah that looks like it. It must be hard to try and hide your deserved excitement because you beat your roommate. But if I were talking to Aly in that instance I would have told her - given the chance to do so she would've beat you. And she understands that. This is what happens when everyone starts telling you you are the eventual winner when you haven't won yet. Unless your name is Simone Biles - then fine lol.
Elizabeth Price should have definitely made the team. If they hadn't have deliberately underscored her in the US Olympic Trials and overscored others just to get them in....
Over which girl should Ebee have made the team? Jordyn wieber was the reigning world AA champion and was battling top 2 US with Gabby all year. Aly Raisman was a huge floor specialist with an Amanar and a great BB set, and was the rock and the best team player. Douglas was the rising star with big difficulty and wow factor on every event. Kyla Ross was needed on UB because that was the biggest weakness of this team. McKayla Maroney was the reigning world vault champion and was a guaranteed medal, and her floor was world class as well. Ebee had a fantastic trials, but she wasn't needed on that team. They didn’t need a 4th best AAer, or a 4th Amanar. Any other team would have love to get her.
It amazes me how none of the Fierce Five members at the end did not try to Console Jordan. Damn they just left her crying. Thought that was a Team. Regardless of what was going on a True friend would of stay there and spoken to her. Did anyone notice that.
I know from doing gymnastics, if you've messed up, you're just mad at yourself and don't want anyone to talk to you. Maybe her teammates knew that was how Jordan felt.
+Stephanie Maranon The thing about it is yes Jordyn didn't qualify, but Aly did. At the moment the team including Gabby wanted to congratulate her. Aly didn't even think she had a chance of qualifying for the AA final. That was a big deal for her. After the team went back into close quarters, it has been said by many people including Jordyn that they were there and reminded her that they still needed her for the team final that she helped a lot to get the team gold. I firmly believe that it is unfair to not let Jordyn into the AA final since she did rank 4th I believe overall. If it makes you feel better, Aly got beat out by Simone and Gabby at the 2015 worlds.
Usually the people that mess up want to be left alone, which is what happened with Olga Korbut in the all around final. When you mess up in an event, you are only trying to calm yourself down.
My favorite moments are the last 5 minutes, where team USA is so awkward around each other. McKayla and Kyla are trying to ignore the giant Elephant in the room by not looking at any of the other three. lol Neither Gabby or Aly know what to do to console Jordyn and Jordyn looks like she's going to break down at any moment. It's actually sad, but great TV. Jordyn was cheering on Aly before floor, but she should have realized there was still a possibility of this happening. Everyone had their upgrades before the Olympics and she didn't. Did she expect everyone to fall or step out of bounds at qualifications.
Yes, they are all so awkward together!! I think Jordyn did know though, going into floor she really wasn't as smiley as she can be and once she saw her floor score you could see in her face that she was counting up the scores and if Aly did as well as she usually does Jordyn would be out. She was saying 'Go Aly', but that's just kind of a reflex at that point. But once she saw her score she pretty much knew she didn't do enough.
Jordyn knew that she was going to have a fight on her hands going up against Aly on Floor with the scoring being so close. Floor and Beam are Aly's best apparati and Jordyn made big mistakes on both of them.
***** Sheesh, what's your deal dude, we are just commenting on a video. To say she made mistakes is an accurate description of what happened, it's not like we are attacking her personally. You do know that the whole point of the sport she was in is to be judged right?
I was intrigue to watch this because of "jordyn wieber crying issue" not making the cut in AA, she did pretty well on floor and beam. but the good thing is USA won the gold on TEAM.
For everyone down here and says that Jordyn should've been in Aly spot is wrong because Aly was the 2nd top qualifier behind Komova. Saying she doesn't deserve her spot when she out scored Jordyn AND Gabby is just complete bias over the fact that Jordyn was world champion the previous year meaning she should get an automatic spot. I truly believe Jordyn should've been in that final but because I think the 2 per country rule is not smart, not because I think she deserves it more than Aly or Gabby
Thank you I totally agree with you. I especially hated when people said Aly should give up her spot. Plus my friends and I totally called this happening at the Olympics either she wouldn't make the AA or someone else would get gold. Jordyn was solid but she never had one event where she really shined whereas Aly her weakest event was bars but she could bring in high scores on beam and floor. Not to mention Jordyn didn't even upgrade her routines for the olympics while everyone else did. Jordyn was the equivalent to Shawn/Nastia scenario in 2008 Shawn was solid on all 4 events but Nastia had 2 events where she would get over 16 plus her execution and start value were higher. Just because Jordyn is the World Champion she shouldn't have expected to get an easy ride into the olympic AA especially with the talent USA currently has. People were complain about the 2 per country rule when it has been in effect since 2001 after Sydney when Romania took all the medals in the Womens AA. People then complain about it just because the world champion didn't get a chance to defend her title.
But it should have been gabby and Jordan because that way they were most likely to have 2 medals I think that's what they mean but I see what your talking about
@@omrianhussain4704 How is that fair for Aly who outscored both Gaby and Jordyn? Why have the qualifications at all? Just ask the countries to select their own athlete for the AA then..
@@omrianhussain4704 Honestly, just comparing Jordyn’s best Olympics scores to Gabby’s, Aly’s, and both Russians’, I don’t think she would have medaled.
1:16:54 we don’t talk about this moment enough. USA qualifies in first place by 11 points, and the entire team looks like they just saw a ghost. Jordan gets edged out of the all around by Gabby Douglass and Aly Raisman,,, the LOOK Gabby gives Jordan just perfectly encapsulates what I’m sure she’s thinking “imagine what they would say if I was crying in your position.” That look… is seriously one of the most chilling moments in American women’s gymnastics.
Qualifying 11 points above second place is literally insane LOL! Ill have to go look again but did 2016 or 2020 USA teams lead by that much in their quads?
Jordyn Wieber was a great gymnast, but realistically I think she was past her prime by 2012. I would be surprised if we ever see her in major competition again.
I just realized (although I do need to watch the NBC version to be sure) but we never saw Aly’s reaction to making it to the AA final in the US broadcast prob due to them focusing on Jordyn’s tears not making it but first Mikhai tells her she made AA finals which she didn’t realized and she herself is in complete shocked saying I DID WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT?! And then she cried tears of joy.
That was amazing. Kyla Ross...... at first, I thought that she was just a baby in this sport. But after seeing the way she competed on the events she did.... I was shocked. Expect to see her on the next dream team in Rio 2016! Kyla Ross rules!
I know this was in 2012 and i know there looking for perfect but, for some reason when the girls are on the floor they look so happy and jumpy and confidant but when they get out of balance they know its a huge deduction and you can see the sadness in there faces right before the continue. It makes me a little mad that they are sad even though there are all so good at what they do! And have so much talent!
Frankie K: No, I'm just saying that's not the reason they not showing it. You're just making it sound like, they didn't show it, because it's U.K broadcasting, and to that I say, bullcrap.
Channel 12345: They most likely didn't show it, probably because they felt that there were no need to show the same person doing the same thing twice. And I agree.
Aly- "The whole country thought she was gonna be in the top 2" Imogen- "I know. I knew you [or we] would do it" Aly- "Me too." [Laughs] Then it looks like she says "I think it's better, I'm privately pleased she[...]" I could be wrong. That bit was difficult to make out, but after watching numerous times, I'm 99.9% sure. I can't make out what Imogen is saying as she hugs Aly. Then Aly says "I feel bad... I'm rooming with her" Imogen- "I know, I know it's hard" Tell me if you see the same thing.
I'm a huge fan of of Aly (Alexandra) Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Mckayla Maroney, and Kyla Ross in competing in this first part of the 2012 London Olympic Gymnastic competition, Artistic Gymnastics Qualification. I felt sorry for Jordyn in not being able to compete in the All Around.
Unlike Aly and Gabby, Jordyn was the darling of USA, promised to be great since she was a kid. After she beat both Mustafina and Komova during 2011 season, everything was about her, for the media, for the public.
To this day I don't like when people say Aly should have given up her spot to Jordyn, Aly wanted to be in the AA too, and Aly won her spot fair and square. In sports this big your teammates are also your competition. You are all competing against each other for spots on the team and medals. Even if Jordyn was in the AA she wouldn't have won gold. Komova had higher score on bars and upgraded her beam dismount which gave her the advantage over Jordyn. Jordyn was overhyped by NBC in the US as the next big thing but her coaches set her up for failure by taking her wins for granted. If people looked at the scores her wins were small margins and in the USA she was over scored, and she never made her connections on beam which caused her to get hammered in international competitions. Komova, Aly and Gabby all upgraded their routines for the Olympics. So two examples for past AA winners. In 2004 Carly was descent on vault but shined on beam and floor with 9.7's back when the code was out of 10 which got her the lead over Khorkina. In Beijing 2008, Nastia was weak on vault she made up for it with her execution on all events and scored in the mid 16's on two events. Jordyn didn't have one event were she really got really high scores that she shined on and she wasn't in a position like Simone where small mistakes wouldn't cost her the medals. Jordyn was more like Memmel where the team could rely on her on any event. So at 2011 World's Jordyn scores were 15.716 13.600 15.266 14.800. Komova 14.933 15.400 14.683 14.333. Total in AA Jordyn was 59.382 Komova 59.349, so you can see the small margin. In the Olympic qualifications Jordyn got 60.032, Komova 60.632, Gabby 60.265, Aly 60.391 so while you can see in the Olympic AA it wasn't a huge differences Jordyn wouldn't have won the AA. Komova was in the lead after day 1 but messed up in the final but she had a bit of an advantage over Jordyn. If Komova had hit in the AA she would have won gold. I think Jordyn's coaches just overestimated that she would be edged out by teammates. Now with Simone, the only way someone could edge her out is if on vault they did a yuchenko triple and the prudonova vault along with a high even bars in vein of Nastia's 2008 bar routine.
aly's def having a "omg i just beat jordyn out of the AA final" moment with imogen cairns at the end. at 117:31 aly says "i'm rooming with her" referring to jordyn
NBC commentators: OOH, a balance check there. HUGE deduction. Shannon Miller: BEAUTIFUL back handspring and back tuck. Great connection. What does NBC expect?
I think Jordyn Wieber was overwhelmed and cried because this was her first Olympics and her team just slayed everyone else and won. So I think she distanced herself to get her emotions together because her body was reacting. When you train and train and train and then you go to the Olympics and work hard and then your team wins and gets to go to the final, your body is just like "Did I just do that? Did we just slay everyone and win the first round? Oh my god!" It's something she's never experienced before and she needs a couple of minutes to take it all in an process it so she doesn't freak out. That's what I think was happening, I don't think she was just standing there alone, I think she did it because she was overwhelmed that she just did what she did.
She was sad because she was disappointed. She was the world AA Champion and she didn't have a great day, and made a bunch of uncharacteristic mistakes. EVERYONE was talking about her winning AA, and she didn't even qualify for it. And she even released a statement addressing it "It is a bit of a disappointment. It has always been a dream of mine to compete in the all-around final of the Olympics." And a bunch of other coaches talked about it.
Pur-Green: Have you ever heard the word Sportsmanship? Anyway, the Fierce Five Did Great, so did Russia, so did Romania, and so did every other team in the Finals, as well as those teams who did not get into the final. Every individual gymnast did amazing these Olympics, From Gabby Douglas to Hannah Whelan, every gymnast did amazing.
They didn't snub Jordyn, she didn't qualify. She made a lot of mistakes, and it cost her. Laurie wasn't put in because Marta had more faith in Gabby Douglas. Laurie is still young enough that she COULD return to the Olympics in 2020.
That's the rule and Jordyn got the third highest score in 2012. Thing is that the head of any nation's gymnastics picks which three people get to compete to qualify for the All-Around and in 2016, Marta Karolyi chose Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and Gabby Douglas, even though Laurie Hernandez had done better at the Olympic Trials. Marta had more faith in Gabby and chose her instead. If Laurie goes to the 2020 Olympics, there's a chance she could qualify for the All-Around then.
Looking back on this from 2 years ago I think that what ppl meant by saying that Aly bumped Jordyn out was because many ppl assumed that it would be Gabby and Jordyn going into the AA for USA due to the fact that Aly's bar scores are significantly lower and her vault lacks form as well but against all odds she fought and made it in :)

Cute.
HellsOnlyBelle right? and that fall on floor here cost Gabby almost 2 pts and she still made it so that's a testament to how great she is
It's hard not to find thinly veiled racism in people upset about her qualifying for the AA final WHEN SHE WON IT. Ugh.
People. You're not the judges. The judges gave them both their scores. Gabby 's deal with it.
HellsOnlyBelle Are you joking? Aly qualified first then Gabby. If either Aly or Gabby were to be knocked out by Jordyn it would've been Gabby in that situation. Sure it would've impacted the AA but Aly was in there either way, not Gabby.
I don't deal in would'ves or could'ves, I deal with reality. The reality is that Gabby won the medal.
Gabys last name scrambbled spells USA gold
It sure does... I never realized that... her winning a gold medal was bound 2 happen!!
i know right

🤯🤯
Your right it’s true your so smart
I like how the commentators and camera people didn't focus on Aly at all, they didn't show her bars or beam. They clearly didn't expect her to make the all around final.
They were also commenting on how Jordyn would have to "fight" in the all around final... it's like it didn't even occur to them that she might not make the final.
I think they are showing the three that counted in scoring.
I dont think it occured to Jordyn that she would not make the finals. And that was her problem
Yeah she assumed she would make finals. She said that in an interview. That is presumptive and dangerous to think that way.
At the end, you can see after Aly is done with her interview, the cameraman motions for the interviewer to try and get Jordyn's attention...and she is NOT HAVING IT, and Aly is trying to walk as far away as possible. Good for you, Jordyn. That was classless on the media's part.

For Kyla Ross on floor it actually start at 55:50
It really is the fault of Wieber's coaches that she didn't qualify.
You know that she had a leg injury and larry didn't help
@@neversaygoodluck so true

I loooved Kyla Ross on floor... not to be dramatic but todays floor kinda misses art and kyla was really elegant and beautiful in my opinion...

I love and hate the 2 per country rule. Definitely gives other gymnasts a chance at the all-around, but eliminates so many good qualifiers :(
And you can blame Americans for that rule when they got all pissed when romania swept the podium

With better co-anchors, I think Nastia would really shine!🌺
not enough drama for NBC though
If Shannon is the one currently talking… I didn’t like her comment about the USA team being overzealous bc they went out of bounds during floor. They are powerful gymnastics and ten years later USA team still flys out of bounds… it’s just what they do.
shannon miller (former olympic champion and gymnast extrodinare) and steve robilliard (an australian sports journalist with the australian broadcasting corp (abc)).
top notch commentating from them both!
why dont the coaches make their gymnasts take ballet classes xD it would improve their balance SO much, maybe even some tightrope classes would help xD
actually tightrope walking can rly destroy the feet lol
Elizabeth Tweddle is one of the most amazing gymnasts I've ever seen.

Gabby douglas is amazing
Give all the women credit for what they earned on this day.
that's so sad at the end when everyone is chatting and Jordyn is standing on her own hugging herself ;-(
I know she looks so sad even though their team won.

Queen MaeMae In 2016 the same thing happened to Gabby she place 3rd in the all around and was edged out sad but it's gymnastics
I totally agree with you I was surprised.
When the announcer said McKayla was doing phantom of the opera for floor I almost screamed out of joy haha
I always watch the gymnastics Olympics😍
It was sad. I still think that during the team Day We saw the best of jordyn. I wish she and Aly made it to AA but It just didn't happen.
Jordyn knew that she was going to have a fight on her hands going up against Aly on Floor with the scoring being so close. Floor and Beam are Aly's best apparati and Jordyn made big mistakes on both of them.
Kate McTiernan
***** Sheesh, what's your deal dude, we are just commenting on a video. To say she made mistakes is an accurate description of what happened, it's not like we are attacking her personally. You do know that the whole point of the sport she was in is to be judged right?

Jordyn Wieber was a great gymnast, but realistically I think she was past her prime by 2012. I would be surprised if we ever see her in major competition again.
Your right!! She retired so no more competitions
I agree
To sad and bad that she just retired this year...😭😥
skitzo429 Past her prime? Like Zmeskal in 1992? Can't a girl just have a bad day?
hammerjump
I love gabby because she is amazing even though I'm from ireland
Why does that matter?
+Maddie Sands I guess they assume that they should be rooting for Ireland 😂 Why else?
my absolute favorite is Alexandra Raisman!
Like if you like Gabrielle Douglas
What is the name of her floor routine soundtrack
I like simony biles did you no she got a gymnastics move named the biles
Shooketh 😹😹
hi all i have to say is we have the same name. how do you do
Gabby and simone are my favourites!!!
Kawaii Animations Simone isn’t competing in this competition she’s to young but now she’s like the best gymnast in the world
why do they all have such amazing cheekbones?!
Because their hair is pulled back so tight. No, seriously, it works! Haha
I'm guessing it might be contour 😉
Kyla Ross rules!
enjoyed watching Beth Tweddle.
Kylas beam routine was FLAWLESS!
Not some reason its because they would like to think they can do good :) man i think they all did good, forget the judges.
I absolutely love Shannon's commentary. Hope she'll continue to work with the official Olympic channel.
Yes! She has such a beautiful voice, and with her vast Olympic experience and accolades, she makes a fantastic expert commentator.
I do as well. I can barely hear the gentleman who is commentating with her.
Why didn't they show mckaylas second vault
Channel 12345 They didn’t because this is Great Britain’s broadcast.
Frankie K: Bullcrap.
Wedge Antilles Are you telling me this isn’t the UK broadcast?
Frankie K: No, I'm just saying that's not the reason they not showing it.
You're just making it sound like, they didn't show it, because it's U.K broadcasting, and to that I say, bullcrap.
Channel 12345: They most likely didn't show it, probably because they felt that there were no need to show the same person doing the same thing twice.
And I agree.
Aly- "The whole country thought she was gonna be in the top 2"
Imogen- "I know. I knew you [or we] would do it"
Aly- "Me too." [Laughs] Then it looks like she says "I think it's better, I'm privately pleased she[...]" I could be wrong. That bit was difficult to make out, but after watching numerous times, I'm 99.9% sure. I can't make out what Imogen is saying as she hugs Aly. Then Aly says "I feel bad... I'm rooming with her"
Imogen- "I know, I know it's hard"
Tell me if you see the same thing.
No one does that double layout dismount on bars like Gabby... when she hits it good she looks like a mermaid springing up from an enchanted lake
Unlike Aly and Gabby, Jordyn was the darling of USA, promised to be great since she was a kid. After she beat both Mustafina and Komova during 2011 season, everything was about her, for the media, for the public.
I miss having floor routines with actual choreography in them, not just jumping and waving arms.
watching in 2016 :)

The law of the land in the U.S. should not be to defend us, but rather, it should be to chant USA at every Olympic event.

Who else is watching this after the 2018 winter ❄️ olympics?
Qaszxcvaszx
I felt so bad for Jordyn, she’s an amazing gymnast, but she just couldn’t go for all around because of the two gymnast per country rule😭
NBC commentators: OOH, a balance check there. HUGE deduction. Shannon Miller: BEAUTIFUL back handspring and back tuck. Great connection. What does NBC expect?
I was there! It was amazing! I wish i could do what they do
I think Jordyn Wieber was overwhelmed and cried because this was her first Olympics and her team just slayed everyone else and won.
Kyla's floor music is to die for!
I absolutely love the US and Canada leos!
In 2012 they snubbed Jordyn Wieber, in 2016 they're snubbing Laurie Hernandez. #Shame
They didn't snub Jordyn, she didn't qualify. She made a lot of mistakes, and it cost her. Laurie wasn't put in because Marta had more faith in Gabby Douglas. Laurie is still young enough that she COULD return to the Olympics in 2020.
Kate
Kate McTiernan Lauren wasn't doing all around because she was injured
I thought only 2 athletes per country could compete in the all around single title, and the highest 2 scores from each country could compete?
That's the rule and Jordyn got the third highest score in 2012. Thing is that the head of any nation's gymnastics picks which three people get to compete to qualify for the All-Around and in 2016, Marta Karolyi chose Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and Gabby Douglas, even though Laurie Hernandez had done better at the Olympic Trials. Marta had more faith in Gabby and chose her instead. If Laurie goes to the 2020 Olympics, there's a chance she could qualify for the All-Around then.
American girls are really amazing at Vault 😍😍😍
No. 1 vaulters they are
Looking back on this from 2 years ago I think that what ppl meant by saying that Aly bumped Jordyn out was because many ppl assumed that it would be Gabby and Jordyn going into the AA for USA due to the fact that Aly's bar scores are significantly lower and her vault lacks form as well but against all odds she fought and made it in :)
Yeah her floor and beam are that strong
I LOVE Jordan Weiber and she rocks GO TEAM USA
