The Terminator is an underrated masterpiece. Far better than Terminator 2 Judgment Day. This film was more intense, darker, harder better acting, better characters and a better more bleak story
Terminator 2 is a bit too well polished for my liking. Not a bad film but I prefer the gritty atmosphere of the first film. The orginal is a unique neo noir whereas it's sequel is a somewhat of a generic big budget blockbuster.
Very glad to have found this channel! These top 10 lists have helped me to discover several terrific films I'd been sleeping on. For example: Paris, Texas. As for my top 20.... 20. Night of the Comet 19. Paris, Texas 18. Body Double 17. Police Academy 16. 1984 15. Once Upon a Time in America 14. 2010 13. Amadeus 12. Sixteen Candles 11. Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter 10. Gremlins 9. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 8. Beverly Hills Cop 7. Starman 6. The NeverEnding Story 5. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock 3. Ghostbusters 2. The Terminator 1. The Karate Kid
Interesting list. Very underrated channel; I like your style of narration aswell. That coming from a cinephile who watched over 3.500 movies over the last few yrs, keep up the good work! 💪👍
Great list! My personal favorite is Stop Making Sense, as Demme somehow managed to perfectly capture the brilliance of Talking Heads, one of the greatest bands of all time. I also love Amadeus, Paris Texas, Once Upon A Time In America and Stranger Than Paradise quite a bit. I must say, I did not expect Ghostbusters at number 1, but you explained the greatness of the movie so well that I can't complain. Almost want to watch it again. If you are going to cover 1944, I recommend Double Indemnity and Laura. If you are going to cover 1985, I recommend a lot of films, but especially Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters, After Hours, Ran, Brazil, Back To The Future and Come And See. All are some of my favorite films. Come And See is probably the single most horrifying film I have ever seen, but trust me, you have to see it. It's one of the greatest films ever made. Cheers!
The way Harry feels about Ghostbusters is how I feel about Amadeus. I've watched that film since childhood, and I keep watching every few years. Just a delight. And that music.
I really enjoyed watching you explain your list. Paris, Texas is one of my ten favorite movies of all time. As far as Ghostbusters goes... I just feel that going to the cinema is nowhere near as much fun now as it was then. I can recall seeing that comedy about 4-5 times during the summer at different theaters with different family or friends. Each time it was in a sold-out show and the audience response was... unified. Difficult to describe but it really felt like a fun, good-feeling, shared community experience. It doesn't exist today and it's not for lack of effort. The magic no longer exists. It was a special time.

Holy crap.... when I watched Das Boot for the first time a few years ago, the chase scene on the surface with the waves splashing and the music playing, I thought it was oddly reminiscent of Sebastian riding on Falcor.... now it all makes sense.
Great List, a lot of my favorites on here and two or three I need to see especially streetwise, I had a trawl and have managed to assemble an alternative list from what is left, some of these films are high on quality and some are Low but I love them: 20 -2010 not as good as 2001 but I still really enjoyed this film was a bit mind-bending when I was 11. 19-The Natural- as well as Money Ball this is one of my favorite Baseball films Robert Redford doing what he does best. 18-Boy Meets Girl- A great early flick by Leos Carex not a conventional romantic flick. 17-Under the Volcano- Last great performance from Mr Finney and he even got an Oscar nod. 16-The Pope of Greenwich Village- This one has Eric Roberts best performance and Mickey Rourke just being a dude. 15-Runaway- Tom Selleck. A great list. A lot of films on it I didn't know of that look very interesting and look forward to seeing the one's that I can. Thanks for this. Just an observation but, why is the video titled The Top 20 Films of 1984 but at 27 seconds in it says "The Top 10 Films of 1984"?
Some interesting picks, a few i need to check out. Personally i'm not a fan of Ghostbusters, but these are my 12 favourites from what i think is a really good year in film: 12 The Terminator 11 Friday The 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter 10 Splash 9 Best Defence 8 Terror In The Aisles 7 Protocol 6 Gremlins 5 Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock 4 Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom 3 Police Academy 2 A Nightmare On Elm Street 1 Beverly Hills Cop
My Favorites From 1984 Are: •Terminator •Neverending Story •Razorback •Nightmare on Elm Street •Nausicaä: Valley of the Wind •Once Upon a Time in America •Romance of the Stone •Blood Simple •Paris, Texas •Repo Man
My Top 20 1. Once Upon A Time In America 2. Ghostbusters 3. Blood Simple 4. Beverly Hills Cop 5. This Is Spinal Tap 6. Amadeus 7. Purple Rain 8. Romancing The Stone 9. Beat Street 10. The Terminator 11. Splash 12. The Brother From Another Planet 13. Paris, Texas 14. The Night of the Comet 15. The Lonely Guy 16. Broadway Danny Rose 17. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 18. Police Academy 19. The Muppets Take Manhattan 20. All of Me
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was always my favorite of the original Indiana Jones films growing up, and even now at the age of 33, after becoming much more mature and developing a greater appreciaton for artistic films and the art of filmmaking in general, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is in fact still my number one favorite film of all time! For this reason, I can't tell you just how much it ticks me off when people claim that Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom isn't a superb film, or that it's the worst installment of the original Indiana Jones trilogy..... For one, most people don't seem to get that, with the exception of the opening scene of Raiders, Indiana Jones and the Temple Doom encapsulates everything that Indiana Jones was always meant to be, even more than either Raiders of the Lost Ark or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade..... The point of Indiana Jones was never to be some American patriot who went after Nazis..... Sure, that's what movie-goers came to expect and love to see, but what Indiana Jones really always was meant to be was that swashbuckling adventurer trekking through sweltering jungles, going into a lost temple to retrieve some ancient, fabled artifact, being chased by natives shooting arrows at him, stumbling upon a secret temple of a deadly ancient cult like the Thugee, or being cornered onto a jungle rope bridge suspended above crocodile-infested waters with nothing but a sword in hand and his will to get out of it alive...... THAT is Indiana Jones! That's why it is so fitting that the original poster for Temple of Doom says "If adventure has a name, it must be Indiana Jones"..... Indiana Jones is meant to be an homage to all the old classic adventure serials, dime novels and adventure films of the 1930s, 40s and 50s, just a far better version because it's Spielberg and it's the New Hollywood era, so the director and producers are no longer bound by the code of the MPAA, nor are they bound by the culture and sentiments of audiences of the 30s, 40s and 50s..... So Spielberg could finally make a c. 1930s adventure film, just like he'd always seen on TV as a kid, but actually put onto the screen what he would imagine in his head, or dream about, because he isn't bound by the old motion picture code, or the culture of those times..... Therefore, just about every complaint I ever hear from people regarding Temple of Doom shows me that they simply don't get what Indiana Jones was meant to be, and I personally feel that Temple of Doom is a great improvement on Raiders of the Lost Ark, despite the fact that Raiders is certainly the better made film, if we are speaking strictly of the art of filmmaking, the use of lighting, etc......
1984 was just an incredible year for film. My top ten (as of now): 10. Romancing the Stone 9. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 8. A Nightmare on Elm Street 7. The Killing Fields 6. Threads 5. Gremlins 4. A Christmas Carol (starring George C. Scott) 3. The Terminator 2. Ghostbusters 1. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Yeah I still have a lot to catch up on. Can't wait to see what you have to say about 1985 since it's home to two of my favorite war films, favorite comedy, and one of my favorite anime films ever.
Some excellent suggestions here. Not seen here: Broadway Danny Rose, Full Moon In Paris, The Company of Wolves which would be on my list. At any rate, 1984 is probably the best film year of the 1980s.

I can see why you had to expand your listing to "Top 20 Films." You make a good case for why "Ghostbusters" is your #1. I think #14 on this list "The Times of Harvey Milk" is the best feature-length documentary I've ever seen. The procession from the Castro to the S.F. City Hall after Milk and Mayor George Moscone were murdered is truly moving.
Indeed "Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom" was not as good as "Raiders of the lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones and the last crusade". Also a prequel to "Raiders of the lost ark". Fun video😆
Despite what Allen Bauer Played by Tom Hanks says in Splash, Mermaids are Aquatic Mammals. Actually in the 80s it was called Warriors of The Wind, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind is The Uncut Version.
My top 10 : 10 Supergirl 9 Dune 8 CHUD 7 RazorBack 6 Greystoke: Tarzan 5 Repo Man 4 Footloose 3 Sheena 2 The Bounty 1 The Toxic Avenger Sheena should be no 1...
TOP 20 MOVIES OF 1984: 1. The Terminator 2. Stop Making Sense 3. This Is Spinal Tap 4. A Nightmare On Elm Street 5. Ghostbusters 6. The Karate Kid 7. Amadeus 8. Once Upon A Time In America 9. I hnow I am boring now, but the first time judgement day happends before the Terminator is send back John connor can not send his Father back in time because he is not born yet.
It is the thing now to make fun of my generation the Boomer generation , but there is one thing today's generation cannot even come close to matching Us with , and that's Music and Movies . We had hands down better of both these genres
As I recall, Repo Man didn't get to Australia until 1986 (but still should be classified 1984 IMHO). A lot of US movies took yonks to get to Oz. I saw Star Wars in 1978. So what? Just sayin'.
Let's keep it at 10: 1 The Terminator 2 The Karate Kid 3 Beverly Hills Cop 4 Gremlins 5 Shanghai 13 (a Chang Cheh's all-star kung fu actioner) 6 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 7 The Killing Fields 8 Opium and the Kung Fu Master 9 Amadeus 10 Police Academy
OMG OMG OMG! I have seen this and watch this video with Yetl Smoke and Black Peter Griffin on UA-cam and it was awesome! I love Gremlins but I don't like Ghostbusters because they might give me any ideas! This video has forgotten Red Dawn and Sixteen Candles! I also stopped watching at that time cause Yeti Smoke came back on Discord! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My favourite year for film from the 1980s. So many classics, but I think Paris Texas would be my number 1 from what I've seen.

Can't wait to see what you have to say about 1985 since it's home to two of my favorite war films, favorite comedy, and one of my favorite anime films ever.
What are those films from 1985? Just wondering.

1987's the best year for film in the 1980s.
I can't believe those movies have 40 years old now
Some excellent suggestions here. Not seen here: Broadway Danny Rose, Full Moon In Paris, The Company of Wolves which would be on my list. At any rate, 1984 is probably the best film year of the 1980s.

NUMBER ONE: ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA
Could have added The Natural and The Bounty.
Good list.
My top three favorites from 1984 are The Karate Kid, A Nightmare On Elm Street & Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter.
Indeed "Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom" was not as good as "Raiders of the lost Ark" and "Indiana Jones and the last crusade". Also a prequel to "Raiders of the lost ark". Fun video😆
when you going back to have it finished ?
That should be a horror movie trapped in a body with Lilly tomlin?I'm getting ill just thinking about it
Year I was born. Ghostbusters is my number one as well.
Despite what Allen Bauer Played by Tom Hanks says in Splash, Mermaids are Aquatic Mammals. Actually in the 80s it was called Warriors of The Wind, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind is The Uncut Version.
My top 10 :
10 Supergirl
9 Dune
8 CHUD
7 RazorBack
6 Greystoke: Tarzan
5 Repo Man
4 Footloose
3 Sheena
2 The Bounty
1 The Toxic Avenger
Sheena should be no 1...
I haven't seen Sheena yet. Looks outstanding.
What a year!!! my top pick.......Repo Man.

Almost 40 years old
This is neither here nor there, but the video title says „20“ and the title card at the beginning says „10“.😄😄😄
An absolute criminal offense you left no mention of the 1984 film The River starring Mel Gibson, Sissy spacek, and Scott Glenn.
The Terminator
The last starfighter
Not Purple Rain🤦🏾♂️
JOHN Belushi!!!!!!!
I love terminator very much. But to say its a better movie than amadeus is aaa.....well......
Harvey milk would be pleases in 2023
Let's keep it at 10:
1 The Terminator
2 The Karate Kid
3 Beverly Hills Cop
4 Gremlins
5 Shanghai 13 (a Chang Cheh's all-star kung fu actioner)
6 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
7 The Killing Fields
8 Opium and the Kung Fu Master
9 Amadeus
10 Police Academy
How do you remember all these movies with all that drinking
OMG OMG OMG! I have seen this and watch this video with Yetl Smoke and Black Peter Griffin on UA-cam and it was awesome! I love Gremlins but I don't like Ghostbusters because they might give me any ideas! This video has forgotten Red Dawn and Sixteen Candles! I also stopped watching at that time cause Yeti Smoke came back on Discord! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great List, a lot of my favorites on here and two or three I need to see especially streetwise, I had a trawl and have managed to assemble an alternative list from what is left, some of these films are high on quality and some are Low but I love them:
20 -2010 not as good as 2001 but I still really enjoyed this film was a bit mind-bending when I was 11.
Michael Crichton and Gene Simmons what could go wrong B movie classic.
14-Harry and Son- Paul Newman making me cry.
13- Footloose- This film also makes me cry but in a different way worth it just for thee soundtrack and Chris Penn busting moves.
12-Cal- Moody Irish flick with Stephen Rea just getting started on his 80's domination.
11-The Last Starfighter- I watched this recently and the effects do not always hold up but great story.
10-Broadway Danny Rose- One of my favorite Woody Allen films.
9-The River- Mel and Sissy, a bit unconvincing but I really enjoyed it at the time.
8-Birdy- I am not really an Alan Parker fan but I think this is my favorite great soundtrack by Peter Gabriel.
7- Eureka- Not a classic Roeg film but still better than most other peoples of the year.
6-Comfort and Joy- One of the best Scottish Films about Ice Cream
5-Where the Green Ants Dream- Saw this a few years ago, Herzog and the outback apparently it really pissed off the aussie government of the time.
4-The Brother from Another Planet- Great John Sayles sci fi homeless flick, great social commentary.
3-Streets of Fire- Bonkers rock musical with a great performance from Williem dafoe, weirdly it is made by Walter Hill.
2-The Hit- existential gangster film when Stephen Frears was good.
1-Another Country- This film is so good it appeared on the cover of The Style Council's second album my Favorite Shop, if it is good enough for Mr Weller it will do for me as my no 1.
I forgot about Broadway Danny Rose!
@@1-2many I have just realized I forgot about Mike Leigh's Meantime another of my favorites.
