MISSING top 10 and ahead of Khan?
Blue Velvet my number one, and by some considerable margin.
I love terminator very much. But to say its a better movie than amadeus is aaa.....well......
The Party with Peter Sellars would be in my top 10. 2001 vying for my all time number one with A Clockwork Orange.
In the Heat of the Night my number one for '67.
Jaws and Dersu Uzala.
Dark City is outstanding.
Thunderbolt & Lightfoot also a great film from 1974.
Poseidon Adventure & Solaris would both be in my top 10.
Thank you so much for your content. I've just recently become a subscriber after watching many of your " Top 10 Of The Year" videos. It's been very entertaining listening to your insights about familiar and unfamiliar cinema. You clearly loves film and film making. Again thanks.
Mad Max would have made my top 5.
I saw Alien on release with my dad. Even my dad was scarred to death. I can not over state the greatness of seeing this and knowing nothing. Still today it is so eerie.
Fortunately cinemas in Hong Kong are very clean, comfortable and people behave so you can sit back relax and really enjoy a great movie. The downside is these days very little gets released here.
I lived in Hong Kong in 2019. Just before everything changed. In a few weeks I'm hoping to do a video about Hong Kong cinema.
Julianne Moore is superb in Safe
I would have included Schizopolis in my top 5. But great list, thanks!
O Lucky Man would be in my 1973 Top 20. some really unnerving scenes.
The Andromeda Strain is my number two film of 1971. also in my top 10 all time.
A Clockwork Orange is my all time favourite film, and still way ahead of its time. Kubrick's eye for detail is mind boggling.
Saw Star Wars on release as a kid, it was truly unbelievable. beyond imagination
That was great! I'd have included The Man Who Stole the Sun and A Taxing Woman's Return. But with all you've presented here, it's a pretty impressive compilation.
- “Barbie” is not a movie but a long commercial for Mattel. - I had never heard of “Beau is Afraid”. I’m mildly curious. - “Poor Things” was brilliant and visually stunning. However, it ran out of steam the last half hour. - “Godzilla Minus One” was personally the best movie of 2023.
There were just a few favorites for me in 2023: - Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One - Oppenheimer - Killers of the Flower Moon - Godzilla Minus One - Poor Things - Past Lives - Anatomy of a Fall - The Holdovers - The Zone of Interest
1986

You deserve one million subscribers. Can you talk about politics in cinema?
Almost choked laughing at the “just 3 times?” part

When are you gonna do the 2000s???

The year of the most adorable human in America. Luci Christian.
Surprised nobody in the comments has mentioned Bo Burnham's Inside. A stand up comedy special turned art piece time capusule of the pandemic. Could have been part of the collective trauma we were all going through at the time but it was one of the most moving and relatable films Ive ever seen. I watched it five times in 2021 and cried every time.
