GREAT list! Jamming the Blues definitely deserves its place in line! Arsenic & Old Lace and Phantom Lady, which stars my fellow Washington state native, Ella Raines. She was good, but her career was too short. This was a good year for movies.
A bit late on this one. This wasn't recommended to me for some reason. Another phenomal list, as usual. Agree on Double Indemnity as number 1, although I think Laura is quite good too. Speaking of Laura, that phone bit was the best laugh I've had all day. Didn't expect The Private Life Of A Cat, but I can not say I was disappointed. Also, I'm probably going to check out Jammin' The Blues because jazz and gorgeous black-and-white cinematography is a mix I can't reject. My recommendations for 1945 are Brief Encounter, Rome Open City and Children Of Paradise. Detour and The Lost Weekend are also worth checking out. My recommendations for 1985 are Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters, Ran, After Hours, Brazil, Back To The Future and especially Come And See. Cheers!
I need to seek out "The Private Life of a Cat." Apparently someone knew cat videos were the way of the future as early as 1944. Glad to see "The Curse of the Cat People" so far up this list, one of the most unique films to center on a girl's coming of age.
Then there's my favorite Cary Grant movie: Arsenic and Old Lace. Who can resist sweet little old ladies calling the shots? Most of those you listed I haven't seen, except for Laura. They all look great. I usually can pull one or two of your picks up on You Tube. Thanks, and happy New Year!
A great list, and I am thankful for The Private Life of a Cat (I have eleven of these beautiful creatures living in my house). As someone who grew up in the former Soviet Union, I know that my Mother saw Gaslight -- and then we re-watched it together in the 1990s. My only quibble is the absence of Meet Me in St. Louis, which -- I believe -- is not only the best film of 1944, but one of the best Hollywood films of all time. But I understand it's a personal list. Cheers! I salute you with a shot of vodka, and may Putin be damned! He is the shame of all Russia. Merry Christmas!
I don't think in a list for this year yet... But maybe, I'll considered this films too The Woman in the Window Ivan Groznyy I Meet Me in St. Louis Arsenic and Old Lace The Tower of the Seven Hunchbacks Hail the conquering Hero Phantom Lady Murder, my Sweet

a list of them in your description would be handy.

I can't imagine why you left Meet Me in St Louis off your list...it's certainly in the ten best musicals of all time.
Solid list but would probably take out the 2 shorts for Torment and the Scarlet Claw.
I still need to see the Scarlet Claw.
For me personally, my top 3 this year are:
3 Crash Goes The Hash (The Three Stooges)
2 The Big Noise (Laurel and Hardy)
1 Murder In The Blue Room
Lifeboat is on my to-watch list as i'm making my way through the Hitchcock's.
Yay! Double Indemnity!
No Preston Sturges!
I don't think in a list for this year yet...
But maybe, I'll considered this films too
The Woman in the Window
Ivan Groznyy I
Meet Me in St. Louis
Arsenic and Old Lace
The Tower of the Seven Hunchbacks
