I just noticed Harrison Ford starred in Star Wars Episode V (1980), Raiders on the Lost Arc (1981) and Blade Runner. (1982) All movie of the year contenders 3 years in a row. He was the MVP for the early 80s.
Harrison Ford practically owned the late 70s to 80s period, he was like the Beatles occupying half the spots of the top 10 grossing movies of all time during that period .... even his financially underperforming movie like Blade Runner would become regarded as the greatest sci fi movie of all time and his dramatic investments would result in oscar nominations, movies like Witness , Presumed Innocent and Working Girl ...
I still play my blade runner vhs today because it's the only version with the classic pvt eye voice over narration... I frigging love and miss that narration I Don care what others say how corny it is.....
My favorites of 1982 (as of now): 10. The Last Unicorn 9. Time Masters 8. Tenebre 7. The Plague Dogs 6. Fanny and Alexander 5. First Blood 4. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 3. Blade Runner 2. The Secret of NIMH 1. The Thing
I enjoyed the list. Special thanks for including "Missing." I was in the Soviet Army at the time, and a friend of mine had to spend a night in the stockade -- not for watching the movie, just because we were all on AWOL and he got caught by the patrol))) I now owe it on Criterion DVD. A great film! My only quibble is that "Tootsie" is mentioned only fleetingly. To me, it's the best film of 1982 -- but tastes vary. As for No. 1 on your list, I guessed it from the outset. As one critic said, "We will all soon be living in 'Blade Runner'!"
Once again, you introduced me to a new film I’ve never seen before, Missing. It was a great film. Jack Lemmon’s performance was next level. Solid list.
The films you select are fantastic. Many of these films would appear on my list but many are new to me. And I thought I was a cinephile. I am binging your videos and formulating a list of those I must see. I hope you keep producing videos as they’re excellent.
My Top 15 1. E.T 2. 48 HRS 3. Blade Runner 4. Tootsie 5. John Carpenters The Thing 6. First Blood 7. An Officer and a Gentleman 8. Diner 9. My Favorite Year 10. Poltergeist 11. Fast Times At Ridgemont High 12. Swamp Thing 13. Creepshow 14. The Verdict 15. The Secret of NIMH
Another epic list sir! Just a personal opinion, but I firmly believe if they made Halloween 3 Season of the Witch a stand-alone film, taking out the association with the franchise that it would have been more successful. I actually think it's a criminally underrated horror film.
Totally agree, "Blade Runner" was the best of an amazing year for cinema. To me is the best movie ever made :D PS: I missed "Conan the Barbarian" in the list, amazing Milius directing and also amazing Poledouris on the soundtrack.
Conan The Barbarian, Creepshow, My Favorite Year, Ghandi, The Toy, Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan, and Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch.these are seven on my personal favorite movies list for 1982.
My top 10 10. Creepshow 9. Class of 1984 8. 48hrs 7. Rocky III 6. The Toy 5. The World according to Garp 4. Poltergeist 3. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 2. First Blood 1. The Thing
Ey! I was hyped about this one, and you didn't disappoint! For my favorite, I have quite a hard time choosing between Fanny And Alexander and Blade Runner. I would probably say Fanny And Alexander is my favorite as it's much more enjoyable than Blade Runner, but Blade Runner is the better film of the two. BUt this could switch any day. And The Thing is a masterpiece too! Cheers for another good video! KHAN!
The ENTITY also came out in 1982 ..... 1982 is the year of the UNDERRATED greats due to 3 movies : Blade Runner (my number 1 movie of all time) The Thing The Entity (The Entity is now regarded by many as one of the scariest movies of all time on the same level of horror as The Exorcist. ) Strange how the 3 movies were all not highly regarded during their 1982 theatrical release but their stature has grown to such an extent that they often occupy the top slots of the greatest movies of all time in their respective genre, sci fi, sci fi horror and horror ...
Some great films this year, my top 7 are: 7 Poltergeist 6 Creepshow 5 Eating Raoul 4 Friday The 13th Part 3 3 Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan 2 Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch 1 Death Wish 2

Cast but featuring a young Mickey Rourke one of my favourite actors of the 1980,s adding a bit more weight to a superb film. Keep up the good work roll on 83.
Blade runner is a great movie but I will still pick ET as my personal favorite. Great list but like any other list there were movies that were left out and should’ve been mentioned: victor/Victoria, my favorite year, and especially fast times at ridgemont high. It’s still a great list.
Also in 1982 : - The World According to Garp (George Roy Hill) - Conan the Barbarian (John Milius) - The Secret of NIMH (Don Bluth) - The State of Things (Wim Wenders)
"First Blood" was the best film of 1982 followed by "Le Gendarme et les gendarmettes" with Louis de Funes for the humor. And "L'as des As" (Ace of Aces) with the recently deceased Jean Paul Belmondo.
My Top 10: 10. Rocky III 9. 48 Hrs. 8. Poltergeist 7. My Favorite Year 6. First Blood 5. Fast Times at Ridgemont High 4. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial 3. The Thing 2. Blade Runner 1. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
My Favorites From 1982 Are: •Blade Runner •Conan The Barbarian •The Thing •Star Trek 2: Wrath of Kahn •First Blood •The Dark Crystal •Halloween 3: Season of the Witch •48 Hours
Can't argue, great list, but I can add, 1 My Favorite Year. upbeat and fun look at broadcast TV 2 Cat People, love the tone with the funniest waiting room jokes on film. and a Bowie score. 3 Q the Winged Serpent was nothing short of brilliant Mmichail Moriearty nailed the role. 4 Sweeney Todd the demon barber...Dark and satisfying performance 5 The Entity. a creepy true story. 6 The Year of Living Dangerously Peter Wier directing 7 Secret of NIMH. Bloody animation tale, the anti Disney 8 Creepshow, guilty pleasure. Blade Runner and the Thing fill out the list.
back in december 1982 i went to a midnight double feature, it was dragonslayer and the 2nd feature was time bandits, two for the price of one.i was just a little kid back then and in was falling asleep by the time time bandits was on. but i forced myself to stay awake and see it.
I've got Fanny and Alexander (3), ET (1) , Gandhi (6), Blade Runner (8) and The King of Comedy (2) I also would include Diner (5), Poltergeist (9), Tootsie (4), The Verdict (7) and The State of Things (10)
Star Trek V was a missed opportunity to reconcile the Star Trek original since that movie ended with a cliffhanger. It would have been much better if the villain in Star Trek V were the alien created in Star Trek the motion picture.
Philip K. Dick's story "Do Electric Sheep Dream of Androids?" (the sort of basis for Blade Runner) had a decent plot but it was a novel, and short. I wonder if Dick lived to see the movie. Strange fellow that he was, he might not have liked it. One thing I know is that he'd have hated the recent sequel with its happily ever after ending. The movie does draw you in almost to the put of hypnosis. It was very powerful, unlike the sequel which relied to much resolving conflicts to hold together. I hope the world doesn't turn into Blade Runner but its starting to seem that way. I knew a professor who watched the movie faithfully every new year's eve. I always wondered if he was on to something.
"Violent alchoholic cop"? Nah, that was just grizzled Nick Nolte, and cops drinking was kinda not uncommon in 1982. How was he violent? Is this bc of the Denise Crosby scene? I will remind you she had a bat. 🙂 Great movie. Saw it in the theater with my dad. Good memories. Edit: You are 100% correct: The Bill Shatner joke in Airplane 2 WAS the funniest joke in '82. I still think about it to this day.
Fast Times At Ridgemont High is my #1. But I'm glad you didn't mention it since you would denounce all the characters as "White and privileged" like you did with The Breakfast Club and American Graffiti.
Here's my top ten 1. Class Of 1984 2. Death Wish 3 3. 48 hrs 4. Smithereens 5. An Officer and The Gentleman 6. Fast Times at Richmont High 7. Rocky 3 8. Blade Runner 9. Creepshow 10. Grease 2

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is my favorite movie from 82.
Very true. I loved that movie so much I read Cameron Crowe's book. Currently a first edition goes for ~$1,000.00!

Need to see Le Gendarme et les gendarmettes. I'll add it to my list!
If you want to see a masterclass in acting, watch Kingsley in Gandi and then in Sexy Beast. You won't believe you're looking at the same actor.

•Blade Runner
•Conan The Barbarian
•The Thing
•Star Trek 2: Wrath of Kahn
•First Blood
•The Dark Crystal
•Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

What? No "Conan the barbarian"? With, probably, one of the best five soundtracks of all time.
Also my favorite scene in Airport 2. Not a must see movie but a great scene.
Now I see modern Joker movie was based not only a Taxi driver, bus a King of comedy also. That makes de Niro’s appearance in Joker even funnier
#1 Star Trek 2
#2 Bladerunner
#3 The Secret of Nimh
#4 First Blood
#5 ET
Can't argue, great list, but I can add,
1 My Favorite Year. upbeat and fun look at broadcast TV

My favorite Ben Kingsley performance is in SUSPECT ZERO.
The entity
Ben Kingsley is a TITAN! My favorite role of his is the remote viewer in SUSPECT ZERO. If you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for???
I've got Fanny and Alexander (3), ET (1) , Gandhi (6), Blade Runner (8) and The King of Comedy (2)
I also would include Diner (5), Poltergeist (9), Tootsie (4), The Verdict (7) and The State of Things (10)
No Rocky III??? 😩
I adore Fanny and Alexander. It's Bergman's best work. Great as it is though - the mini series version just takes it to a whole other level.
Blade Runner
E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial
Sophie's Choice
Gandhi
The Thing
Tron

That was released in 1981.
@@maxstewart9635 No, my friend. Conan The Barbarian was released in May of 1982. And it was the BEST film released that year!!!!
My apologies. You're correct. About the year.
@@maxstewart9635 no worries. Just bask in the glory that is Conan The Barbarian!!!!
Blade runner looks great but is a boring movie imho .. The Thing No1 for me

Am I mistaken or you really just hate Meryl Streep so much not to include even one of her films
