    An Easy Fix for Vertigo
    mobile.nytimes....
"What does stop it, an estimated 90 percent of the time, is canalith repositioning, also known as the Epley maneuver, after the Oregon ear surgeon who devised it in 1980. "This is a simple mechanical disorder," said Dr. Foster, who has performed the maneuver thousands of times. "You can fix it in minutes."'
    Central Causes of Dizziness
    ptjournal.apta....
"Patients with dizziness comprise a large portion of the patients seen in emergency departments (6.7%)and by primary care physicians (2.6%).Some of these patients appear to have a vestibular system abnormality to account for their dizziness, whereas other patients do not."
    Vestibular Neuronitis
    emedicine.medsc...
"Vestibular neuronitis may be described as acute, sustained dysfunction of the peripheral vestibular system with secondary nausea, vomiting, and vertigo. As this condition is not clearly inflammatory in nature, neurologists often refer to it as vestibular neuropathy."

Just had Vertigo 6 hours ago when I woke up. Looked at one part of the room and it was spinning over and over again. 1 hour later, still spinning. After lots of sleeping and drinking water, and Tylenol of course helped bigtime, its "fixed". But yeah. One of the worse experiences a human can ever have.

That's terrible man.. your body is suppose to get rid of it within hours. Best advice I can give is to lie down and close your eyes. Have somebody give you extra strength tylenol and drink warm water. Drink LOTS of water afterward, Vertigo is caused by dehydration.

  • @XL-Freak
    @XL-Freak 8 років тому +175

i'm surprised she didn't mention dehydration as a cause of vertigo. dehydration can negatively affect the fluid levels in the inner ears. it also plays a large part in meniere's disease. once i stopped overdosing on sodium, caffeine and artificial sweeteners and started properly hydrating myself, my chronic vertigo stopped.

A couple of years ago I woke in the morning, stood up and the room suddenly seems to spin out from under my feet. All day, any time I turned quickly, or laid down, or stood up I would feel and see that spinning sensation for a few seconds till those little crystals that were out of place settled. I had never experienced this kind of thing before and I went to the doctor right away.
She told me about the loose crystals and said I just had to wait it out and that it could take weeks to go away. I came home and researched the problem and found a UA-cam video of a doctor teaching the Epley maneuver. It is just a simple series of head movements that you do to re-position the crystals. I did it to myself and I was instantly cured! The vertigo came back a few days later, but I just did the Epley maneuver again and I was again instantly cured. It has never happened since.

+April Thomas my wife had to give up riding her motorcycle due to recurring dizziness which caused her to have a few minor crashes. I took her to a neurological specialist to test for MS which it wasn't, thank God. I'm going to share with her the Epley maneuver and hopefully it will help.

      Same with me, April.
I have been suffering for years on end with this problem and no doctor could help me except prescribe vertigo medication which made me drowsy. I too researched and found the Epley maneuver, tried it and was successful on my second try. The dizziness does return from time to time... I feel it's something that will never go away, but knowing how to treat oneself is of utmost importance.

I figured out what caused my vertigo! Long story short: it was the radiator in my bedroom. I figured this out because I just moved into this apartment about a nonth ago. The first week I didn't use the bedroom heater. 2nd week it was on and off periodically.
The night before I woke up with unbearable debilitating vertigo, I had the radiator on Medium throughout the night. During my 10 days of suffering I would lay in bed and turn it on and off. I noticed I felt ok when I was in other parts of my apartment but my brain started associating the room with the dizziness so I started sleeping in the living room. I sat next to it yesterday and noticed the dizziness started coming back. That's when I made the connection. A co worker of mine told me she went through the same thing at her place.
This is an up to date apartment built a few years ago. Anything can cause your vertigo, just look at ANY small changes you've experienced. Hope this helps someone.

I had vertigo for first time(about May 2016) was horrible, its was like my whole world fall down.
My vertigo is triggered by very loud sound that really close to my ear, I had vertigo come back 2 weeks ago. Now I exercise every day moving my eyeball to horizontal and vertical for 6-Times.
Turn my head left and right each 8 times
And dont forget to drink Neuro vitamins everyday, and always bring my vertigo medicine for just in case!!

I have had vertigo three times over a two year period. The first time was after I had a cold and my inner ear got an infection from that. My head was spinning and became so nauseous that I vomited a few times. I always keep Gravol which is an over the counter motion sickness medication. I am 76 and have vertigo. It is the worst, most disabling, illness I have ever had. I cannot go out shopping without someone to physically support me. I have been through three medication courses, antibiotics, vitamin B12 injections and Merislon anti-vertigo pills. All no good. I have been doing the Epsley and 'half-sumersault' exercise. No good. I am now trying Teatree oil with Hydrogen peroxide in the ears. 6 weeks ago my condition was diagnosed a exacerbated emphysema - triggered by allergic rhinitis. I think there is a seat of infection in my inner ears: that's why I'm doing the ear flushing.

Alan Tunbridge ; If you have an unidentified ear infection, the garlic treAtment may take care of it. Chop a couple of cloves garlic, let them sit for 15 minutes while they make their chemical changes to be at their most beneficial, then swallow with at least 1/2 glass water and vitamin C. Repeat in 2 or 3 hours and maybe again later. Eat a little so your stomach won't get acid. But if you take more than 1000 mg vitamin C in about a 8 hour period, you could get a Vit.C flush and diahrrea. This treatment has cured many infections and flu worldwide. Including myself with a killer flu when I couldn't get to a doctor.

🔸🔹 Strangely sometimes vertigo can run in families. Two of my sisters and myself have had BPPV at least twice. I had a small recurrence of it 3 months ago (after 2 years since first BPPV) which left me with dizziness and light head - ness. Worse at night. The first time we all had BPPV it just went away with tablets and rest, no head position exercises. This time for me required position procedures. They did work in varying degrees, each person I reckon requires some customization in regard of timings. Apparently some folks can get crystals trapped in the jelly which lines the semi-circular canals, and tapping/vibrating the Mastoid bone is needed to dislodge them. Very weird numbness and tingling in certain positions for me. My sister Nicola had an attack also after about 2 yrs, 2 nights ago. Last night I encouraged her to continue with Epley manoeuvres she reports 80% gone today. 🔸🔹

It was the most horrific experience of my life. 11 months later and although the vertigo stopped, I still have the occasional bout of dizziness or a very wobbly feeling. I've had vertigo. I think the last time I had it was at the beginning of a slight ear infection so the inflammation bit makes sense. Any other time I've had it there hasn't been a prominent cause. The world starts spinning like mad, I start to feel naseuos and nothing in particular helps. If I move too quickly or close my eyes it makes it worse, so I usually just lay down and wait for it to pass. It is the absolute worst!

    • @Jaxk06

I am pretty sure I have this too. It's pretty random as well, I need to make sure to sit down and put my head down and just chill for a few minutes. When my right ear starts bothering me it kinda gets worse if that makes sense to you. The dizziness is so bad. It accurs when I do things too fast like sitting up from bed and getting up from a chair and whatnot. ~Jackie

I couldn't stop crying because I was in so much agony not even pain. I had to be hospitalised. It feels like the whole world is spinning and you feel like vomiting you can't sleep properly or do anything. the first time I had it (this is what actually happened to me, I'm not even joking) it happened at night, and I felt this weird, horrible sensation so I quickly got up. Then I realised if I turned my head even a tiny bit, I would get the vertigo. And my mum was tired after hours of work so as much as she tried to help she was too tired. So I had to sit there for 6 hours staring at a blank wall, not being able to sleep...

I have had it for 3 days now when I lay on my left side it instantly triggers and everything starts to spin . When I am not on my left side I have a constant light headed feeling but the dizziness stops.when I sleep I have to sleep on my right side and when I roll to my left side in my sleep it instantly wakes me up with spinning and feeling nauseous .

    • @halihaught8535
      @halihaught8535 8 років тому +1

I'm the opposite. I've had it three - ish years, whenever I lay on my right I start getting nauseous, which leads to a hot flash then the dizzy spells. Tonight was the worst in 2 years. I was at work, blacked out and bounced my head off a concrete floor. For me it comes in two different phases. The ones that last for days & it happens so fast I don't have time to react (like tonight). I'd rather be dizzy for 2-3 days then have it happen all at once.

I've gotten vertigo several times. It is worse than just being dizzy, you can actually see the room spinning around you & it feels as if your being pulled down to the ground. Just had an episode this morning. Thank God my son was there to catch me. I also get horrible migraines, neck pain at base of skull and my vision in my right eye is getting so bad just over the course of last year. Allergy medicine has helped with migraines, but the vertigo getting this bad makes me worry something underlying could be going on.

Having vertigo is horrible and scary as hell!!! I had a huge episode that caused me to be off work for over a week!
I finally got it under control thou, it was scary!
What I did was sleep a lot more, yoga, took b12 everyday for two weeks, had some sliver drops in my ear, went to massage Therphy and chiropractor. Got rid of all dairy products and increase water and fruits/veggies.
Idk which ones helped but I'm sure some did the trick. I really think j got mine due to overly stress. I was having headaches before

I’ve had it for about a week now but just got officially diagnosed with peripheral vertigo. It’s worse whenever I’m moving, specifically moving my head. Basically just feels like anytime I move I could at any moment pass out from dizziness. Feels like the room around me is on a constant spin. Not sure how to get rid of it yet, but this is definitely an experience 😂

I used to get really bad migraines as a kid. I could tell before I would get a migraine by the way my vision would zoom out. It would always come with hallucinations and a burning fever several minutes or so later after my vision zoomed out. I would always picture a bolder coming at me for some reason but eventually learned that it wasn't real that it was all a hallucination. What worked for me was staying extremely still. Isolating myself for all light and sound as everything was amplified on a rediclious level. The light emitted from a alarm clock felt like the sun was in my eye balls and someone wispering sounded like they were screaming directly in my ear with a microphone. Used to get them a few times a month and no doctor knew what was happening to me. Eventually as I got older they suddenly stopped and once in a while I'll get really bad virtigo signaling that things might happen again but never do.

I just recently had 2 episodes of vertigo. Both episodes were 1 week apart. I am 20 weeks pregnant. My symptoms were nausea, vomiting, and the room kept spinning. I could not walk to the restroom without holding on to something. Also, for a month now I’ve been hearing a heartbeat in my right ear. I thought it was the baby’s heartbeat.
I went to the hospital for both episodes. I have an appointment to see the neurologist and ENT doctor this week.
I wouldn’t wish this disorder on anybody. I pray for all people suffering with vertigo.

I have Multiple Sclerosis, and have had Central Vertigo. It lasted 3 weeks the first time, 2 the second time I experienced it. It wasn't room-spinning, it was up and down. If I looked at a book on a table, for example, I'd see the book rising up. If I blinked, it would set the book back in place, and the process would repeat with it rising again. I was eventually prescribed Serc (used for Meniere's Disease) and that cut the vertigo by 80%.
I had not yet been diagnosed with M.S. (was in the limbo period doing the doctor and testing roulette). Thankfully when they did diagnose me and put me on medications to reduce inflammation, I never again experienced that severe vertigo.

I have issues where I look at something and even though I know I and the object I'm looking at are stationary (and our positions aren't changing relative to one another) it appears to be moving away from me... Until I move my eyes or head and then the process starts over until I once again move my eyes or head.
If that's virtigo then it's unsettling, but not vomit inducing.
Every once in a while I have dreams where I am in a room that is changing shape and bending around and I am helplessly and uncontrollably floating around in it... I usually head straight to the restroom after waking up from one of those *~~~~ERS!*

"Allusion has already been made to the Sense of Dread, the apprehension of
impending evil, exhibited by subjects of Vertigo. This unhappy state of mind is
quite unwarranted by the surroundings of the patient, nevertheless it is
impossible to soothe or reason him out of it... To some extent this undefined
terror may be the effect produced upon the mind of the sufferer by the
uncertainty of his relationship to space and the objects about him, which is the
direct consequence of his vertigo. If he be also the subject of the tumultuous
noises of tinnitus, while deaf to the sounds about him, it will be difficult to
imagine a state of things more calculated to fill his mind with the expectation of
evil. Perhaps only he who has felt the ground heaving beneath him in the throes
of an earthquake can fully sympathize with the mental distress of the
Vertiginous subject" Edward and Claud Woakes (1896)

I've struggled with vertigo for almost six years now, and it's hell. It just comes out of nowhere, and I have no choice but to lay down all day and night when it happens. I've been hospitalized multiple times, and until this day no doctor has been able to help me. I took meclizine (same as dramamine) and it did nothing. I think my vertigo is migraine-related because I used to get migraines with aura symptoms as a kid. I heard that anti-anxiety medication can help vertigo, but I've also heard the opposite. I don't know which one is true. Haven't tried it yet. :/

What you have sounds like vestibular migrains. One facet of diagnosis is that you have had another type of migraine. Do some research on what foods and meds cause and help prevent migrains. I read where taking CoQ10 can help. I have been taking 100mgs or more per day and this seems to keep my vestibular migrains at bay.

I had no idea vertigo was a thing until 1 day I took 2 30mg Aderall XR with 3 Monster drinks. I got terrible vertigo from it. I had no idea it existed until I went to the ER thinking I was having an aneurysm. It lasted 3 days!!

there was a period of like 4 days where I would feel like the room was spinning and it felt like I was losing my balance. It would only last for a few seconds and happened a few times a day.
I think it was from riding the rip, ride, rock it rollercoaster like 5 times in a row, but I really don't know for sure why that happened. If it was from the rollercoaster, it was totes worth it

I had a stroke April 2019 and experienced my first episode about 1yr after. I was in a large furniture shop choosing a recliner chair..... 💥the ceiling lights started spinning and spinning. It's terrifying, I thought 'this is how I will die'..... I really thought I was going to pass out and 'pop my clogs'. I've had it a few times since and also dizzy episodes. I hate it because I think I'm going to fall but I just close my eyes tightly, grab on to the nearest steady object..... structural or human.... and cling on till it goes away. It leaves me quite shaken and very tired, I usually sleep a bit afterwards. Yes, it's an awful thing to experience but I'm lucky not to have it too often. After the first episode I was seen by my stroke team and CAT scanned..... brain still there and the damaged area same. I count my blessings FOR SURE.

Back in 2009, My hairdresser blasted me in my right ear with the blow dryer. I felt sick and dizzy all the rest of the day and had vertigo for the next 7 weeks. My doctor recommended the Eppley maneuver, which seemed to help. Been fine ever since.

I don't know if vertigo is what I've had but it sounds very much like my experience. I have woken up twice with this absolutely awful feeling of just being so incredibly uncomfortable and dizzy. I can't think, I can't speak, I can barely move. It's so intense and it's so awful. It only lasted about 5 minutes or so in both cases but it felt like forever. Is this really that common or should i be concerned?

    • @mercysegen9453
      @mercysegen9453 7 років тому

Thanks for the response. I didn't know something as serious as a brain tumor could cause vertigo. I think it's best that I'll go to a doctor about this.

I once got vertigo from taking post-surgery pain medication. The weird thing is that it had no other side-effects. I just couldn't stand up without falling over.
