      Trump is no less corrupt than Hillary. When it comes to voting and policies, people want to choose one or another. I'd choose Hillary over Trump If I were an american. She is definitely more qualified politician. Now, If you think politicians are super corrupt people, that'd mean you think that Hillary is more corrupt than Trump.

    • @msazal90
      @msazal90 6 років тому +6

      Saying "Trump is dumb" undermines a lot of his corruption. I've seen a lot of people hated (and still hate) Hillary for her connections with big business. Trump is big business.

      He's off sometimes but I think that should be okay as long as it's not blatantly hateful. The issue is self-policing in fear of being attacked by the more vocal and extreme types, basically the ones that also make up the online outage that media companies use to create these sorts of pointless news stories about how "people" are reacting to different things that in the bigger picture mean nothing.

      Jo Pao The Internet has allowed us in the news to see exactly this. People used to complain about all the “negative” news such as murders. But when it’s easily visible that some triple homicide gets way more hits than the board of education vote on teacher salaries or whatever, THE DATA IS RIGHT THERE. Now it’s worse because of how it’s moved on to these type stories. Anything digital gives the publisher deep AF metrics on what works. Facebook makes so much because advertisers will target shit to outraged 19-year-old single children with blue cars who live in eastern Montana.

    • @schloops8473
      @schloops8473 6 років тому +1

      I agree with you that the technology now allows measuring exactly what gets the most eyes and therefore revenue. Also, news outlets are in the fight of their lives to survives due to competition and so, have to make some hard choices.
      Don't know if that was your aim though, but while younglings are outraged, it's not like the third age isn't going bonkers too.

      I think 90% of the blame is on the dishonest journalists. It's natural and probably good to check something out if it's a huge controversy or If everyone is on about it, because your life or income might depend on knowing what's going on. That's assuming these journalists were not producing clickbaits. But they're dishonest, and use terms like people, everyone, the internet, to produce a sense in you that there's something potentially big going on and you're still out of the loop. So you click so you can be in it.

      That's what actual Journalistic outlets where for the golden age of the 4th estate. Independent freelance Investigative journalists that went out and made stories that News outlets would then solicit/curate and present to their readers. During the "Operation Mockingbird" era after Truman created the CIA.. we found out that the CIA and large journalistic entities where recruiting people out of University and funding their own narrative driven stories. (Google it) Now this is Common practice in "Journalism"
      Now people have to actively seek people they trust that spend their time vetting and fact checking stories.. As people work 40-50 hours a week and don't have time to fact check everything personally. CNN and MSNBC and especially Bill Maher are the last people to care about facts if it does not fit their narrative.
      Investigative journalism in the USA is now illegal under the PATRIOT act and how precedent with the Espionage act works. The best investigative journalists still alive work for out of country news outlets.. That are considered by the Mainstream as "Foreign entities".
      Journalism in the USA is dead. And the CIA killed it. Created by an Un-elected president who also dropped 2 Nuclear bombs, Started the Korean war leading to 8 million dead, Backstabbed the Soviets and Wrote the "Truman Doctrine" which lead the world into Mass nuclear proliferation and the Cold War.
      Bill Maher is literally part of the white washing of our history and journalism to talk about some trolls on twitter. He could actually be informing people. Selective mis/disinformation.. aiming to control the parameters of the debate before it even starts.

      Hey Robin Hood! I was actually talking about newspapers such as The NY Times and The Guardian, amongst others, who cover (not exclusively, but also) "stupid" stories like these to attract readership. I agree that this is a terrible situation. If you're interested, there's a great book on how to "save" the media and independent, thoughtful journalism by Julia Cage, called "Saving the Media: Capitalism, Crowdfunding and Democracy". You can order it on amazon: www.amazon.com/Saving-Media-Capitalism-Crowdfunding-Democracy/dp/0674659759/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520076416&sr=8-1&keywords=julia+cagé

    There's a difference between "fake news" and click bait. Fake news is anything that has no veracity to it whatsoever. Click bait is actual stories or news that uses exaggerated headlines to bait you to click on it, see: Buzzfeed, etc etc.

    • @onpoc
      @onpoc 6 років тому +1

      I think click bate news is an spectrum with different levels of exageration, misleading headlines and distortion of the truth, with fake news being at an extreme of that spectrum. Plus, the motivation is the same: increase web traffic and ad revenue.

    • @petitio_principii
      @petitio_principii 6 років тому

      In one instance it's just lies or a misleading account of facts, in the other, completely irrelevant stuff that may or may not be lies. Different things, but rarely under "click baits" there would be "actual news". More like plausibly-non-lying "news".

      onpoc - _"Plus, the motivation is the same: increase web traffic and ad revenue."_
      I believe both have different motivations. While clickbait is indeed focussed on increasing revenue, I truely believe fake news is being created to influence one's opinion. And then there is non-news, like reports on so called twitter outrages, bears eating peanuts from a man's hand, a baby elephant being "rescued" from some didge, or some bank CEO got a 50% raise.

      He is calling out people focusing on the outrage in general on both left and right. Being outraged over Starbucks cups or the Jennifer Lawrence thing. If you thought he is calling out just "left wing media" then you are missing the point by a mile.

      Ever clicked on the right-wing Daily Mail?
      They did it to Jennifer Lawrence last week. The headline read, "Lawrence Slammed for being 'rude' to Joanna Lumley".
      The person they quoted in the headline, some twitter nobody with 10 followers. But Jen is a liberal so she's fair game to the Mail. She wasn't rude to Joanna, but they had trawled through twitter to find someone who was, and made and article out of it.
      And Fox News did it yesterday with Chris Pratt and Kevin smith. It was the top story on their website.
      Some twitter cunt said that Pratt offering 'thoughts and prayers from an imaginary deity wont help ill in hospital Smith'.
      Then all of a sudden Christianity was under attack from the left.
      I won't lie and say I've not seen websites like HuffPo do it to, but to call it 'left wing media bullshit' is laughable.

    Bill CRUSHED the bad guys in this one!! Real liberals should be embarrassed by the trash that HuffPo publishes... I'd greatly appreciate it if some fans of late 70s/early 80s groove would check out my acoustic piano & vocal cover of SEPTEMBER by Earth Wind & Fire on my channel in tribute to Maurice White, one of the greatest musicians that the USA has ever produced. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and RESPECT.

    This is why we need EPR (Earned Public Reputation) to be able to assess the actual merit of the identity with the link or whatever. The default setting should be slightly positive, so people without reputations will only be visible to each other (or to people who want to change the default to see them). It should also be biased in favor of positive dimensions, but if a troll or sock puppet or #FatNixon earns the reputation as a lying bastard, then I for one will be glad never to see the aforesaid jackass ever again. (Well, at least not until the identity turns over a new leaf, which is obviously impossible in the case of #PresidentTweety.)

      Why do the mindless trolls bray? I don't need to spend time with a jackass like that, but I would be willing, having seen the moron, to help reduce his reputation so as to see less of him in the future--and to help other people ignore him, too. Until such time as the fool becomes a MUCH better person. Sadly, in many cases that means "Never."

    • @DomakChard
      @DomakChard 6 років тому

      Just don't report tweets as news instead. Having some sort of truth-o-meter is a very dangerous and scary proposition. Whoever controls it has way too much power. It's innately flawed by personal biases, but becomes even worse when dishonest people can exploit it. It's much more important that people be left to make up their own minds than everyone agree with you, even if you're right.
      What you propose is like less extreme version of China's "social credit" system, used to limit behavior to exactly what the government wants. It has no place in a free society, and the user above was right to bring up Orwell.

    Great video. 2010s was the decade of information chaos. I hope people get smart about how they process news, and media become more responsible about what news they report, before a horrible event happens because of a misinterpreted tweet
