I think you have it wrong. I agree with almost everything Bill says, but he also loves to do two things: brag about himself, and hate on liberals. When Trump was in power he hated on conservatives, and now that it’s Biden he’s hating on liberals. And I AGREE with him, but he also tends to think that his audience is stupid, and I don’t like that. They have two things they can do: clap and boo. That’s it. There’s no grey area in between, it’s either clap or boo. What are they supposed to do when he says something like “ and I’m sure all of you who just clapped are going to take in some refugees”. Is BILL taking in refugees? Is his audience supposed to boo him for saying that, or clap along in agreement that, yes, most of us probably WONT be doing that. I love Bill, but he annoys the shit out of me when he gets all smarmy and talks down on his audience. I think the dude is kinda like me in the sense that he generally loathes MOST people, the right and left alike.
There is something laughable about the fact the even the less privileged in America (and I mean that in the woke sense not pertaining to wealth) are still more privileged than the much of the rest of the world. . . .
I would never say that, both as an immigrant and a student. The impulse to back slap and ignore the very real domestic problems this country has is too strong to simply clap and say that America is a great country. Present day America simply isn't as bad as countries like Afghanistan or China. As a teacher, I would hope that you teach in a more nuanced way.

My parents are from Guyana and my mom always told me and my brother how lucky we were to be here. I literally had someone tell me today how much she hated America (she was born and raised in America) and all I said to her was "it beats being in Guyana". I don't think they really listen. They're so entitled and delusional. They have no idea. My dad died a veteran and he never became a citizen but he got a military funeral and flyover. There's a reason people around the world come here and I think 'Americans' don't understand that.
The US is the cause of all of Cuban pain. Dafuq are you on about being proud of this country? We ruined Cuba. We caused Taliban to be who they are today. America is the reason, or in other cases one of the biggest reasons why everywhere else is screwed up.
Im just a tad miffed about Kids being shot to death by psychos in classrooms, blowing Trillions on War and allowing People to go homeless. The US has no excuse for the preventable issues, and absolutely ridiculous spending we do, hence why I criticize it. Sure Im in one of the best places on the Planet but we have alot of work to do. We shouldnt be having certain issues with how many resources we have. Thats all Im saying. I expect more.

Same here. I intentionally listen to people who disagree with me. Bill Mahr, Glenn Greenwald, and Matt Taibi are all left-leaning...and thought-provoking
As a veteran I've never understood the whole wave flaging thing. I don't get how this supports the military. Now funding the VA would be supportive, paying soldiers well would be supportive. And not getting into unwinnable wars would be supportive.
That's why I get the creeps when I hear the old "thank you for your service" song. Empty platitudes and no tangible support. And I'm not even a US soldier.
Military action action for access or ownership of another country's resources aren't "wars". The U.S. corporations make billions in profit...let them field and supply their OWN f**king armies, instead of taxpayers.🤔
As a non-veteran I think most of the blame for the way veterans are treated rests squarely at the feet of veterans. Veterans act like America's endless effort to engage in needless conflict and war crimes is a brand new thing even though we haven't won a war since ww2 even though we've never not been at war since ww2. If Veterans would stop signing up and they had to draft people they wouldn't be in a position to play world police in places nobody wants to go in the first place with absolutely no goals other than burning munitions. We should stop giving people who are willing to kill people for money and education money and education.

As someone living in a 3rd-world country, always trying to dig a brighter future for myself (and succeeding thanks to tireless work and a lot of luck wrt opportunities), I agree whole-heartedly. You've built a helluva country and being born there is like winning the lotto. Well done to all of you. I dream of living in the USA (or any 1st world country but USA is a favourite of mine thanks to your gorgeous scenery and diversity of...well..everything). I think your average citizen has a life that most of us 3rd-worlders dream of and I'm not even in a bad 3rd-world country. I love my country, but the US is just fckn awesome. Having the freedom to dream the American dream, is a dream of mine. Don't let woke culture mess it up before I get there one day. @@randybonner9870 Only a pleasure Randy. I'm in South Africa, born and raised. I love my country but we have a lot of very difficult challenges. On a personal front (and I have a very good life compared to many) I've had to close a business I spent 6 years building, and lost jobs due to economic turns. While I yearn to travel it is immensely expensive because our currency is weak. As an example a trip to the USA costs more than most people can save in several years even if they live very cheaply. That said, I've had some friends who've visited the US and they all loved it for many reasons but predominantly the warmth of the people they met and the beauty and diversity of the natural landscapes. I've been a TV and movie kid all my life - even pursued a career in 3D animation - and I'd say at least 70% of the TV we had here was from the US so in a way I spent more time in Fictional USA than in real South Africa :) As I grew older I swapped movies and cartoons for documentaries and the news so I think my perception of the US is fairly realistic though, obviously, very limited. From an outsider's perspective, I think it's amazing to have a country where there truly is so much freedom that that actually becomes one of the problems. Many other countries, like mine, face constant poweroutages, deep poverty, violent crime, mass unemployment, a lack of education and clean water, sudden economic instability and just, overall, immense uncertainty. We are working very hard to fix all these problems, but the road is long and fraught with challenges. The freedom that I believe the average citizen in a country like the US has to travel and start businesses is an exceptional birthright. Best relevant Bill rant I've ever heard. Actually, personally inspiring for me. And confirming my hesitation and reluctance on how to approach an issue , which has political implications. Now our podcast and website will take a more open, respectful, fact based, and forgiving approach. And be focused on a thorough, balanced, and win/win approach, toward the businesses and institutions, we hope to influence. Anger and hate is unproductive. Sensibility and mutual respect will be my guide going forward. Our Gamblers Gripes website and podcast hopes to set an example, on how to create change in a manner that will set an example for other gripers in our society. Thanks again Bill. I live in Nairobi, Kenya and I'm always greatful that I was lucky enough to be born in this beautiful & booming part of Africa. Things may be shitty but compared to the other nations on the continent, we are FAR much better off
That's the way most Americans should be. It's not perfect, not even particularly great, but we're still better off than so many.

I tend to be conservative and I’m sorry but I’ve grown to love Bill Maher! I don’t care if he agrees with me on everything or not. He is not afraid to speak the truth as he sees it. I happen to think he makes a lot of sense. He is rare in that he doesn’t seem to be worried about being cancelled! I love it!
@callmecatalyst Good point!
Congratulations, you've discovered Bill Maher is a conservative. His atheism has rotted his brain into having the most reactionary takes possible.
Ditto!
This makes perfect sense because Bill is basically a conservative at this point.
The truth is not a sliding scale.
Apparently both sides of the political aisle seem to misuse the word Truth to their weaponry
Thanks Bill for giving a voice to the 90 percent of us who are neither far left nor far right, who are too busy to hate or post on Twitter or rant to the world on Tik Tok, and who ask only for competent and rational leadership irregardless of party.
Well said. It's the same the world over, my friend. Just like in the US, here in the UK the majority view is under represented. The people who make the most noise are on the fringe. Social media has a lot to answer for.
That's exactly what we had the last time
As someone living in a 3rd-world country, always trying to dig a brighter future for myself (and succeeding thanks to tireless work and a lot of luck wrt opportunities), I agree whole-heartedly.
Diversity and free exhange are great and possibly the best things about the US, but woke culture (and especially cancel culture) makes you all look like a bit of a joke.
Mind you, my perspective is obviously incredibly limited, but that's what it seems like in the international media.
Good luck to you all.
Ryan Grobler , thank you for saying what you did about America. I am lucky in the sense that I could've been born somewhere else entirely, but i wasnt . What country do you live in if you dont mind me asking?
I have immense respect for the people that built the USA, protect it, and continue to build it today - I don't just mean politicians, I mean every good citizen.
@@ruaangrobler3035 Wow Mr. Grobler I'm brought to tears of Joy and pride and humbleness. Humbleness bringing most of the tears Sir. Are you going to be taking in refugees?

Thank God, I have now proudly lived in the land of the free and home of the brave for 20 years, the best time of my life! I am heartfelt grateful everyday for what America have given me, the opportunities that I have never dreamed of having, the chances and acceptance everyday Americans have shown me to help me realize my American dream. Now I have two American-born children, I told them everyday to love their country, and that they have won the lottery to be born in America where they can control their destiny and earn their success too with their will to succeed and grit to earn it.
