    Thing I like about Jack with his interviews, is that you don't see any ego. Seems like a very approachable, down to earth guy that's not full of himself like some others are. BTW, just finished "IN the Blood". Now can't wait for the next one.

    The biggest barrier for long range shooting for me is finding a long range. East coast :(

      Find a local NRL22 club. Long range with a .22 can be 100 yards on a 2" target.
      There's an nrl club near you where you can experience long range on much smaller ranges and for a lot less money. It's a blast

    I just took the Mid range rifle course at Thunder Ranch in September. It was a lot of fun, most of the work was directed towards 100 to 700 yards with some work out past 900 yards. Well worth the money and time. It was only a 3 hour drive from home so I’ll defiantly be going back.

    Like that Jack hunts and blends both schools of expiriance.
    Have to say my longest shot was 220yds at an elk, most 100yd many less 70-80yd.
    I didn't take a lot of shots as I was meat hunting, so in the mtns of Colorado I wanted the animal down now.. The hunt was finding the shot not the critter after the shot.
    All my long range 500-700yds are target shooting. Which I really like the Challange of.

    I’ve always wanted to get into Long range shooting and I just recently bought some rifles that I feel comfortable shooting at long distances The first one is a Ruger American 6.5 Creedmoor with an Athlon 4.5 to 25 x 52 for the glass and that gun likes the 143 grain Hornady ELD match and I would without hesitation use that gun for elk all the way out to six or even 700 yards the other gun I have is a Bregara be14 HMR chambered in 300 win Mag and the glass I have on that gun is a vortex Viper 4 to 16 x 44 HST I just haven’t been able to get out shooting yet and at 200 yards I can hit a 2 inch grouping with my 6.5 Creedmoor lots of great information guys and my preferred brand of glass is Vortex keep up the great work

    I appreciate Jack mentioning shooter limitations.
    Just because a rifle can reach out there doesn’t mean that it should. Nothing worse than hunting with someone who has filled an animal full of holes because of improper shot placement based on shooter limitations. I won’t hunt with people who are apt to wound an animal because of excessive distance. Just such a huge amount of disrespect for game. I really believe Jack takes this concept to its fruition as should we all. Thanks Jack for the discussion

    I see why his books are so long winded. Good advice. I like the 6.5x300 weatherby because of the speed and flatness. Speed is where it's at not so much on size of bullet. Accuracy of shot placement is what speed is all about.

    • @revolutionmarine5693
      @revolutionmarine5693 Рік тому +1

      Then it’s money and how much you want to shoot. You will be swapping barrels more then most and a lot of people are recoil sensitive or have had a injury they would rather not re injure. Weatherby is also harder to get ammo for. Nothing made me hate them more then a bad scope on a 300 weatherby mag lol.

      I'm one of those banged up guys. The 6.5 creedmoor is soft shooting and is a great within it's abilities. Just rebarreled a Steath 10 action with a Criterion S.S. MTU 26" 1/8 with precision machined recoil lug and 3 port side, two port top brake. Polished action and trigger, in it's original aluminum stock with a different adjustable butt stock, (can't remember name). Shot American Gunner 140gr bthp great from 100 to 1000 after break in. Working a load either 140 or 147 ELDM and 130gr Gamechanger for hunting. Most shots hunting in my area are 50 to 400 give or take depending on terrain. There are 500 to 1000 but rare. 600 is about my limit with the 6.5 creed unless varmint and excellent conditions. It's topped with an Athlon Aries 4.5 by 27 x 50 and 20 moa bedded base. I have had different scopes from different $$$$ ranges. This Aries has been outstanding. Like said in the video the last hour of light is where the $$$$$ shows. My shooting partner has a NiteForce ATAC on a custom 300 Win. Mag. Nanook action, Bartlien heavy 30" S.S. custom reamer in a Manners stock that shot 1¼ 3 shot group at 700 yards last weekend. His son shooting it for the 5th time shot that best group.
      We shoot to late evening at quite often in all weather to 1000 sometimes 1500. The Athlon will surprise most even up against the NiteForce. Which edges it out in the last minutes. We have tried this several times. I will probably build a 6.5 prc for a little more get up just in case I get an opportunity to go for a bigger longer hunt. Sharing components will be a plus. I may go lightweight build on it. Took me a while to try the 6.5. After I did it's great. Follow up shots are no problem and not being sore or leading to pain isn't a problem.

    Of course he grabs a 4k rifle lol. He's dead on with the shot placement of 6.5. Yeah you can hunt big game with it, but most people don't have the skill or scope to fully utilize the capability of a 6.5's distance. So at realistic distances for most people, particularly hunters, the .308 is still the go-to who don't just jump on fads (or .270 or .30-06 for us old fashioned country folks). I don't need to hit steal at 2000 yards to hunt, kind of a silly statement. 50-100 yards is what I've dropped bucks with a .50 cal Hawken (percussion cap black powder) with irons. Up to 200-300 yards with the .270, which is the furthest line of sight I've hunted in the SE. No need for a school or long distance shooting, I learned with a bb gun when I was in elementary school.
