I‘m printing since 2016/17 and found your channel by accident. Viewed the Video with the printed Bookmarks and finally ended up binge watching your channel. 😂 Subbed!
Thank you for taking the time to share your story. It's such a great inspiration! I've been making all sorts of excuses not to list my creations on Etsy and you just went for it after just buying the printer, I love it! I'd love to hear about how you price your products and what kinds of margins you aim for if that's something you're open to talking about. Thanks again 🙇
I love how REAL this video is and enjoyed learning from your journey. I'm new in 3D printing and just received my first Bambu P1S printer. I look forward to turning this into a business (am nervous about it) and am more confident in doing so now, your video really helped!
Started my 3d printing business back in 2015 most had no idea what 3d printing was yet. Did mostly print on demand locally and prototype design did pretty well. Then I opened a Etsy shop that does not do as well. I actually have a bit better sale on eBay then I do on Etsy not sure why. Seems you are doing a bit better than me, and I've been at this almost 10 yrs. lol. I have had some of those fears you did I have 4 day processing time I believe. I got really good and fixing 3d printers so much, so I offer that as service now as well with a lot more people getting into 3d printing.
Following your journey now, October 2024, i really enjoy watching your videos! I just got myself a Bambu Lap P1S a few days ago, starting out printing a lot of stuff, and dreaming of starting my own small webshop! Thank you so much for sharing your everyday life 3D printing.
I was also terrified on my first sale. 3 years and a second printer later, I'm still getting excited with every sale. They keep coming, and there's been times where I couldn't handle so many.
Bummer that the school system lost a quality teacher…but a win for us? Man, I’m learning a lot per minute on these videos because there isn’t fluff and the perma-smirk is contagious. Please don’t sell out 😉
Macy, well done! I love seeing the journey that people take getting to where they want to be. I am getting closer to retirement and given that I have been hobby printing for a few years now, and am a recently new owner of a P1P, I may decide to jump into a business model as it sees low risk for the most part. I have studies business and engineering in college at different points of my life, but the thought of running my own business has always terrified me.... so maybe as a supplemental income stream, I might give it a try. Thanks for telling your journey and keep up the great work.
Thank you for sharing your 3D printing journey, it’s something I’m wanting to start my 3D printing business at some point not sure where I want go with it tho, I’ve got 2 Ender printers but going to Bambu P1S for multi colour prints are go, 🇦🇺👍
Great video, very encouraging. I have had Etsy, Ebay and other shops for years but haven't made profitable sales. Most 3d printers are slow but I think nothing is worse than clearing difficult and time consuming extruder/hotend jams. I'm thinking about upgrading my printers to run Klipper to speed them up. When I have profits then I can reinvest in a Bambu printer with a rapid-change hotend.
Thank you for this video. I just bought my first printer. I got an X1 Carbon combo on the Black Friday deal. My intent is much like yours was. I want to start a channel where I can print tool/workshop organization. Ive had it about 2 weeks and it hasnt stopped since. Also, I have yet to make anything related to my workshop😂. I also want to find that niche item that can supplement my income. I work from home and have my printer in my office so I can pull finished and start new prints almost at will. My unboxing footage is awful but I will likely still publish it when I finish editing (gotta start somewhere). I cant wait to see where this journey leads, but thank you for giving the inspiration!
😅 I can relate to the unboxing… I wanted to start my channel off with a k1 max unboxing/setup. 😂 Now I’ve got about 3 hours of footage that is mostly me fumbling around with putting on the door knob (which is literally just 2 screws.) It isn’t good for anything, except maybe a blooper reel if I actually start something up. However, it was a priceless learning experience. Now I know to not underestimate how much anxiety can interfere with something really simple and that the only way to get over it is practice filming myself 🤓
Haha all you can do is learn from it and keep trying! I still feel like I’m fumbling around with my camera and just hope the video comes together after editing lol
Great video! I know your store link is on your profile, but you should consider putting your store link in your video descriptions as well, you never know who might want to buy one :)
Thanks Macy for the "open door". Can you tell us more about how you come up with pricing? I am always interested to hear how folks come up with a fair price.
I started out super cheap, like $20 just to try and get some sales in the beginning since it takes a while to gain credibility on Etsy. Then over time I slowly raised my prices to see if it affected the number of sales. It's been guess and check for the most part, I just wanted to make sure I was pricing them above cost and actually making some kind of profit.
Thanks for sharing the journey! I'm really wanting to start a 3D printing Etsy shop more focused on D&D and table top gaming items, just need to finally take the time to make the shop and list some stuff!
Awesome! Thanks for watching :) Getting your shop open and the first listing created is the most time consuming part, but after that it gets way easier. Just work on it a little each day and before you know it you'll be well on your way.
@@macymakes3d I'm really hoping to spend some of my holiday vacation getting it going. Going to have some time off so it seems like a good time to get a task done before relaxing
Thanks for taking the time to share your story and I'm looking forward to watching your channel grow. Now that you've been printing consistently for a few years, do you find yourself sticking to the same filament brands for your colour options or do you try out new brands? And are there any filament brands you prefer in general? Thanks!
I try and stick to the same brands just to keep the color options consistent. My main brands are overture, sunlu and esun. I like overture the best but it's more expensive. If someone asks for a specific color it sometimes forces me to try new brands but besides that I try to stick to these 3
Enjoying your videos. If you are watching your comments you may notice I am binge watching. Your thoughts about the Bambu LAp P1P vs the x1C Carbon. I currently have the x!c carbon but buying multiple x1C can get pretty pricey. Is the performance pretty equal or is there a significant difference in performance between the printers?
For what I do, the P1s are more than enough. I would like to have an x1 eventually just to have lol but it's definitely not a need. It would make having a print farm super expensive. If you're printing the more difficult materials like ABS, ASA... then the x1 would be the move, but for PLA and PETG, the P1s work just fine.
Thanks for sharing Macy. How have the P1P's been for your farm? I started with the SV06 (good printer just slow, and needs tinkering), and now I have the Qidi X Plus 3. It works great, but wishing I would've gotten the P1P! X1C is too expensive to justify the cost currently. Thanks for the straightforward and honest videos, they're refreshing
Congrats on your success and journey. Cant wait to s how next year goes. Quite a big year over year jump. Are you going to introduce more teacher related products?
Thanks! I definitely will try to add some more products to my shop but I don't really have a plan for what that'll be yet. I kinda just come up with them randomly haha I'll just sit down at the computer and let the creativity flow.
Yes packaging takes forever! I mainly use the little white pizza box type things and a tape dispenser thing doesn’t work too well. I only use a normal shipping box if someone orders more than 3 nameplates so not super often.
Well, again thanks for the story, and your style of video is good, I really like it :) I wish you the best with all your endeavours! Btw Bambulab just released the new A1 (not mini), do you think you would go to that instead of the P1P if you had to get a new printer? Cheers :) Great job
Was there a single resource you would recommend that took your Etsy store from a hobby to business? That's what I'm struggling with really - slow growth and a conversion rate of only about 1.3%. Great video by the way :)
I just really focused on titles, tags, and images. Once I figured out "who" was buying my products and what they were searching for I was able to change my titles and tags to attract those people. Maybe start there and see if that helps?
For sure, I'll give it a go. On average I sold one item per day over this entire year. Hoping to double or triple if possible in 2024... Thanks for the tips :)
on some of your shots, it looks like you're using very high infill, and grid... why? Do you specifically want the extra weight? Otherwise, I'd print that kind of thing at like 7-10% gyroid, and add weights or sand instead of using all that filament... but maybe you have your reasons?
I don’t really have a reason lol. I kinda just started doing it and it worked so I kept doing it. I do 15% for the first 15mm and then 30% for the last 3 just to make sure the top layer looks good. I’ll give your suggestions a try though! I’d love to save some filament. I appreciate the shoutout ☺️ kinda a fan girl moment for me haha thank you so much for the kind words and support!
