If you load two filament rolls with the same color you can set the AMS to continue with roll 2 when the first one is empty. A way to save a lot of waste.😄
I’ve tried that, and it’s definitely something I do if I’m just printing for myself, but it leaves a hard line in the print once it switches rolls and I can’t sell an item like that. I’ll try it and show it to you guys in a later video
I have not had that experience with my X1 Carbon. Maybe it's a p1p thing? I just got my A1 as well and I think it'll handle your 3/4 empty roles just fine.@@macymakes3d
@@macymakes3d I was going to suggest the same thing. I had so many nearly used spools and the AMS fineshed them all off!!! I just loaded the nearly dead ones into slot 1-3 and a full roll into slot 4. As long as I was using the same brand I didn't notice any line in the them at all, this was on a P1S so basically the same printer you have.
You can always use leftover filament for simple freebies like bookmarks or a small thank you print. Should only be 3-5 layers and a filament change line wouldn't be an issue.
Might sound weird, but I'd actually buy those waste rolls. My son's sovol sv07 runs fine until it runs out, and it would give him more filaments to play with.
Litterally just got my A1 today although no AMS for me, I love it so far, had an OG Ender 3 that was heavily modified and I just want a printer that prints rather than one that I have to fix all the time. Starting to wish I had the AMS though xD
@@macymakes3d it is difficult for me to justify at this time as I tend to make practical prints that serve a function rather than artistic. It is making me want one anyway xD
I moved my AMS on top and that Sunlu adapter is no good. Find the one that screws together. The one you printed will allow the spool the fall off if the printer shakes.
Whenever you add remove or change the position of the ams on a printer you should rerun a calibration. The center of gravity change can affect the harmonics and input shaping settings. It may not seem like a big deal but it can be. Some people even re run calibration when they change the printers location/ orientation on a table.
Please consider storing all those leftovers in a dry place. You can donate them or recycle them into new filament spools like what CNCKitchen showed. Maybe an idea for another video 😉
I just got that printer last week too. I love it. I'm printing with it constantly. My biggest issue is having a brain block when i can't think of what to print next 😂
Recently picked up one of these, the filament getting fed halfway thru the tube is a result of the AMS looking for the RFID chip that Bambu puts in there for easy setup. Love your content :D
seems like there is a lot of pressure on the lines being routed through the hole as well as wear on the lines from movement making the extruder gears having to work harder to pull filament.
1:18 get yourself a mosaic pallet (doesn’t the bambu ams do end of roll use) or something to join roll ends to make multicolor parts for raw display or spray painting. Sell as a product or something. Roll end figurine or name signs (surely there will be a teacher out there that would like a sign made from “waste”… ) price it a little higher to counter the time spent dealing with each roll end. Aside from wasting good filament and the enviro considerations. It’s wasted material you’ve paid for and you may as well use it up - but perhaps the time to deal with roll end vs what you recover is not worth it. As you have Bambu’s with all their waste perhaps you could get a filament extruder (cnc kitchen had a good one albeit another pricey) and recover full rolls.. Alternative to landfill - donate to a local school or maker space.
I really like the waste end of roll nameplate idea! I’m definitely doing that. Not something I had thought of but I think it’ll be really cool actually. Thank you! 😊
I love the A1. I think my wife would kill me if I buy any more printers though! Hah. With that leftover filament. There is another UA-camr Morley Kert that about a year ago did a series where he'd take a portable 3d printer setup to a park or Cafe and people could bring their broken items in and he'd repair them for free using parts printed on his 3d printer. Might be able to reach out to him and see if he is still doing it or if he knows anyone else that is doing it and then donate all the left overs to them. Might be able to do a bit of partnering to drive some additional traffic to your UA-cam channel if you're donating the stuff you're throwing out anyway and they'll do a shout out.
One minor tip, with those overture rolls when they get lighter they seem to have problems spinning in the ams as they get too light. I found sticking something in the middle to weigh them down a bit lets you use the last bit of filament, and eliminates the line you sometimes get (which happens when the ams takes longer to load the spool due to it not spinning correctly). It's not foolproof but helps a bit. I tend to use the ones with very little on them for any small items that only have a color change right on the last couple of layers.
Yes! I've actually printed a part to do this, I just haven't gotten any weights or anything to put in them yet. Definitely on the list of things I need to do though.
I got my son an A1 for his birthday last weekend and he's loving it. It's an awesome little machine and it's nice to have it next to my P1S. Waiting on the hardware for the top mount kit.
I can google information but thought I would get your input, it also shows UA-cam you are having interaction. From one content creator to another. What advantages do the risers provide and why do you like them so well?
I put them on my p1ps because the ptfe tubes and wired were rubbing the bottom of my AMS and causing problems. The riser helped give some clearance for the tube and wires. Also, if you have an enclosed printer it will allow you to open the top glass and vent the printer. The ones I printed are nice, but there are others that have storage compartments which seem pretty cool.
For anyone who is just using the A1, please don't forget to print the official guard for the sensors cable (the one that is coming from behind the printer). If the cable is damaged and the sensors can't register the bed temperature correctly, there is a very high chance of the printer to combust or at least have fuses activating.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bambu made an oficial post on their site on this.
I just made it to the end of the video and seen how you routed the ptfe on you p1p, I’d suggest you find the cable chain set on printables and print the ptfe tubing guide and also print a long 90 degree ptfe tube guide. I had an issue with both the tubing rubbing on the metal frame and the tube sagging and rubbing on the carbon rods doing it that way. As you run your printers a lot like I do it seems like an easy upgrade to prevent misery down the road.

Tried everything I could find on the net with no success and then in my frustration of trying fixing it I ordered another Kobra Max this time the '2' version, however It dawned on me much later (after I order the new one) that maybe the plug was the issue and so I re-flowed the cable socket and wham it works again. Damn need to be more free thinking before ordering new stuff. Now I have been successful so far with the fixed Max and hopefully the A1 will add more capabilities to my growing list of printers. My question for you is how do you keep the filaments dry enough for printing after they are opened, noting the A1 and the non-AMS printers both have exposed filaments. Do you intend to buy a pre-made version or are looking to build you own?
I only use PLA and the moisture doesn't seem to bother it too much. I keep the rolls in dry boxes when they're not printing but I'm not sure how much that even helps really.
Very good video and I will not go back on the other comments speaking about the leftovers. I wanna advise about the way you have passed the PTFE and câbles inside the metal panel of the p1s. The movement will cut your PTFE and cable, you would better pass them inside the hole of your printed riser. Merci et bonne nuit de France.
When my roll runs out in my P1S AMS the print will stop and lets me know its waiting for me to put in another roll. I just put a new almost empty roll into the SAME slot and press RETRY and the printer just continues as nothing happens. So before I open a NEW roll I at least try and use up the two or three empty rolls. Its NO hassel except for putting in the roll. No waste. Best I can do.
+1 for finding a way to use those leftovers, not to mention not throwing away the rings you printed to make the cardboard spools work better with the AMS. Those must be re-usable?

Love the Video! You can print out a mount that allows you to attach the AMS Lite to the top of the printer. Mine is setup this way and I've had no issues with it.
And if you’re not comfortable with that, for whatever reason, there’s a vertical stand you can print that works really well and is even more stable than the stand that came with the Lite. And with that, you can have it behind the printer, instead of next to the printer. That’s how I have my A1 mini set up.
If you can find a print you can churn out that doesn't require customizations, maybe you can use the A1 Mini to burn through all that extra filament. Maybe something you can send along with your orders like a free keychain with your logo or something. There's also ways to donate printed items that I've seen before, but that certainly depends on having free print time.

I sold the A1 but it’s a really good printer. I just wanted to keep everything the same, running only P1s. Makes the workflow faster in the computer. I think there’s a way to mount the AMS to the top also!

Such a hard decision! Probably the P1P but REALLY I’d choose the P1S. I’m a fan of the core XY instead of the bed slingers. They’re not really that much different though and they’re both amazing printers.
I just ordered a P1S and was watching your video here with you setting up the risers for the AMS. Why do you prefer them gapped up like that? Figured I might as well find out from somebody doing it! Thank you.
Thanks Macy, great vlog :) By the way, FYI Bambu released a model you can print to mount the AMS Lite on top of the A1, could help with space management maybe :) Question: how's the noise level in your shop now that you have so many printers working together ? Thanks again to share your journey with us! :D
The A1 is super quiet. All 4 p1ps running does cause some noise but you can't really hear them upstairs (they're in the basement) so it's not too bad. I can kinda film with them running but you can definitely still hear them in the background.
you should print some cute little single colour keyrings with your scraps and include them as freebies for your customers. People always love free stuff :)
Bought an A1 for my grandsons and they sent a defective unit with a recall notice on the LCD. Over a month later Bambulabs has not fixed it even though the Burnaby office is 28 minutes away. They have not reported the fire and electrical safety recall to the government safety database.
At the end what are those black rings around the cardboard rolls and what do they do? You had no issue with the. AMS lite feeding at all? I just got mine and spool #3 never works...keep getting AMS1 #3 motor is overloaded error and no troubleshooting has solved it yet...
The black rings are just electrical tape on the edges for the regular AMS. And I had one issue with the AMS lite but it was with a new sunlu roll. Even with the attachment I printed, it still wouldn't feed the brand new roll. It did fine with emptier rolls though
@@macymakes3d ah ok....and what did you do to solve it not feeding? #1,2 and 4 run perfectly smooth no issue at all...#3 simply won't load the filament... doesn't even grab it to start...I've tried all the suggestions to make it work... nothing yet... apparently there's hundreds of people with #3 causing issue... so weird...
@@sibertiger17I've had that issue with some filament, my sunlu pla silk To solve it i just had to cut the filament to into a sharp point and then the AMS lite grabbed it and pulled it though. @@BennyTygohome I have tried 5 different rolls, same errors...all cut into angles...there is no bends in the tubes different than the others that work just fine...I think it's the motor in the AMS lite tool head...it makes weird sounds like it's stuck...but nothing is stuck.... 3:29 Tada 3D Printing put out a video on a bambu waste chute with a pull tray, so you don’t have to reach around to get your Tupperware like tubs. Maybe the end rolls could come in handy 👍
What was the reasoning for going w/ the A1 rather than another P1? Was it just to try it? Price? Seems like a small step backwards, though I seem to have been reading that the A1 does some things better than the X1/P1....but probably some things worse too! Still inspiring me! So jealous of your printing success! LOL
Why do you trash all those spools?! 😱 The AMS is perfect to use the spools to the end. Just dry them and use them. What about the silica bags? Just dry them and they are perfect to stay inside the spools that have slots and help them stay dry. Probably I'm stating the obvious and you just don't care all the trouble 😂
This is just the rolls with less than 30 grams. I keep everything over 30 grams for future use upstairs. I can’t use multiple rolls for the nameplates I sell because it leaves a hard line in the print when the filaments change and that’s not sellable. I don’t really print much besides nameplates so it’s tough for me to keep hundreds of “empty” rolls because I dont have that much space. I’m going to try and come up with some smaller things to print and use up some of the waste now that I’ve seen how much you guys care about it ❤️
Hey I have the same bullet reloading press and I throw away filament scraps too! I suspect the comments on this are from uh, let's just say the type of people that don't reload 😄 There's a huge overlap in the 3d printing community with real soft types. Do whatever you want, it's your money and filament and represents about a trillionth of the waste generated every day in cesspools like San Francisco, where they can't even stop pooping on their own sidewalks.
I was similar to you in that I essentially bought the A1 straight away. I initially had issues printing PETG from a “budget brand” but it was mainly caused by my greediness in trying to print everything super fast. I’m also unsure about my belt tension (if it’s correct or not) as I get banding when printing benchies (but not printing more organic style of prints). Otherwise I love my A1. I also have my AMS mounted on top and haven’t had any issues. My benchy issues were happening both pre and post top mount
Good video but you’re sending the wrong message here by throwing your left over rolls. There still a lot of filament there. Please save them or donate them. That’s a lot of filament you’re throwing away.

I just ordered a P1S and was watching your video here with you setting up the risers for the AMS. Why do you prefer them gapped up like that? Figured I might as well find out from somebody doing it! Thank you.
Makes it easy to look down at the print while it's going, without hunching down and having to open the door etc
Still a few days away from my A1 combo to arrive. Super excited. Upgrading from an anycubic I3 mega-s.
But daaaaaaang so much waste!
Thanks Macy, great vlog :) By the way, FYI Bambu released a model you can print to mount the AMS Lite on top of the A1, could help with space management maybe :)
Question: how's the noise level in your shop now that you have so many printers working together ?
Thanks again to share your journey with us! :D
The A1 is super quiet. All 4 p1ps running does cause some noise but you can't really hear them upstairs (they're in the basement) so it's not too bad. I can kinda film with them running but you can definitely still hear them in the background.
Was lookijng for a good AMS riser - sold me on that one.
Did you receive the email from bambu, about the cable problem?
you should print some cute little single colour keyrings with your scraps and include them as freebies for your customers. People always love free stuff :)
Working on some freebies now :)
Bought an A1 for my grandsons and they sent a defective unit with a recall notice on the LCD. Over a month later Bambulabs has not fixed it even though the Burnaby office is 28 minutes away. They have not reported the fire and electrical safety recall to the government safety database.
Them plastic rolls can be used for other things!
Donate unused filament to someone who can turn it into good filament!

Can you close the lid on the AMS with the Overture spools with the rings attached?
I don’t have rings on them. I just tape the edges with electrical tape. But yes I can close the lid
@@macymakes3dthat’s a good idea! Thanks
Dang... I'd buy your leftover filament.
I'm not seeing the Amazon basics battery backup in the description like you mentioned in the video
Just added it! Sorry, I knew I was forgetting something... Says it's out of stock but hopefully restocking soon!

@@macymakes3d No problem at all, thanks so much for what you do for the community!
#1,2 and 4 run perfectly smooth no issue at all...#3 simply won't load the filament... doesn't even grab it to start...I've tried all the suggestions to make it work... nothing yet... apparently there's hundreds of people with #3 causing issue... so weird...
I have no clue. Maybe it’s a bug and they’ll patch it with an update soon? Hopefully you’re able to get it fixed! 🤞🏼
@@sibertiger17I've had that issue with some filament, my sunlu pla silk To solve it i just had to cut the filament to into a sharp point and then the AMS lite grabbed it and pulled it though.
Also make sure your ptfe tubes are in nice gentle arches. In other words, keep your ams lite near as possible to the printer.
@@BennyTygohome I have tried 5 different rolls, same errors...all cut into angles...there is no bends in the tubes different than the others that work just fine...I think it's the motor in the AMS lite tool head...it makes weird sounds like it's stuck...but nothing is stuck.... Bambu service is absolutely crap...not a single response from them in weeks after multiple tickets sent in...
Is ams lite worth the monez if i want to print just with single color ( I will print mostly PLE, time to time PETG)
great job on the video. love it
how long did the multi color print take? just curious
Around 5-6 hours
are you gonna return it?
Nice work👍
Thank you :)
Happy new year.
I would have used that leftover filament to make the SunLu adapter 😂
Or the AMS risers?
Or just use the AMS autoload feature and have a multicolor print where you don't care where the colour change is.
That's what I was thinking watching it 😂
Congratzz and happy newyear to you. Goodluck with your business.. 👍😀
3:29 Tada 3D Printing put out a video on a bambu waste chute with a pull tray, so you don’t have to reach around to get your Tupperware like tubs. Maybe the end rolls could come in handy 👍
I spy a Hornady ammo hand loader press back there. Do you have guntube channel?
Lol no that's my husbands hobby. You don't want me anywhere near that stuff haha
shes so beautiful and a little nerd like me, great video
Thank you!! 😊
LOL
Just wanted to try it out. I'm going to do a full comparison video of the 2, but I'm still a p1p girl lol.
I reuse the poops.. melt them and make other things in molds.
lol
some one reloads their ammo 😍😍❤😁
At least they're not P1S so you don't have doors to make room for.
I’m going to try and come up with some smaller things to print and use up some of the waste now that I’ve seen how much you guys care about it ❤️
Wow. That's a lot of wasted filament. And you are using AMS units? I'll pay you to ship me all that filament.
"It's only 33 grams"
(looks at trash bags full of near empty spools that were thrown away) LOL ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Good video but you’re sending the wrong message here by throwing your left over rolls. There still a lot of filament there. Please save them or donate them. That’s a lot of filament you’re throwing away.
I don’t do that anymore. Learned my lesson from the comments on the video 😂
3rd
those poor leftover filaments LOL
dawg dont throw these leftovers send them to me fr..
you should find someone to donate those left over filament. take them off the spool and ship the filament only. ill pay for shipping!
I also had this thought but I'm in UK 😂
If you put the limit that fits in a flat rate usps box I’ll take it! Name your price for shipping and price per kg. !
So sad to see you wasting some filaments.
what a waste
People like her are part of the reason some people think 3d printing is so bad for the environment.
