I sometimes cut up a cheap silicone loaf pan from the Dollar Store and lay pieces of that between the fabric and frame where I clamp it. Keeps the fabric from sliding and loosening. The thinner and cheaper the silicone, the better.
Wow, this tutorial is everything I needed! I'm not sure if those snap clamps are a thing where I live but I'll find out in a few days when I go to the hardware store to buy the supplies lol. I love that with only a few pairs of sizes, 4 joints and a few snap clamps we can make so many sizes of q-snaps, as a low budget stitcher this is amazing 😍 my country has so little stitching supplies so it's always great to find ways to achieve more comfort and variety
brilliant, I live in the states and I have a small cross stitch stand which i'm not really happy about. I've been wondering how people in cross stitching make bigger stands to do projects and this is just brilliant. I don't have to worry about breaking the bank doing this. Excellent many thank you thank you thank you, from across the pond
You dont need to spend $50 on pipe cutter.. a hacksaw or cheap mitre saw and sand paper will cut and clean pipe for a fraction of the price.. great vid.. Im off to bunnings to make a frame for my first full coverage piece..
I live in the US and make my own qsnaps all the time too! i use 1/2 inch pipe here, it seems to be easier to get all the elbows and pieces I need and want but like you said as long as everything is the same size it dosent matter! Amazon sells a bit wider clamp then the ones at your hardware shop and my hardware store dosent even have the clamps, but I love this I even made a stand with PVC pipes no glue because I wanted to be able to break it down and take with me wherever. I made the stand so I can put it over my lap in my stitchy spot or standing on the floor very easy to do and love it on my budget! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Thats awesome ❤ thank you for watching...it fits my budget too....l am lucky enough ti have a wooden floor stand my husband got for me for my birthday....and a really good sofa and table stand that l can take when l travel.. but l can see the benefits of a pvc one for sure 😊
This was a fabulous tutorial. I really appreciate this information. I live in the states and I don’t like paying the shipping costs either and they are not as bad here as they are in your neck of the woods. I have not always been very happy with a-snaps and I think it’s because of the sizes offered. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to try this out. Thanks again, I’m glad I found your You Tube channel.
Thank you for sharing on how to do one. I have been looking for one, so I could do my cross stitch project and not to stretch the 14 Aida fabric. Darvanlee, that was awesome tutorial on making the frame.
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial - I am about to go and make a shopping list so I can raid our local Bunnings. There is a You Tube tutorial for making a table/lap stand from pvc pipe so will get the supplies for that as well. Thanks again Nicole, you have saved me a lot of $$$ 👍
I like that video. Next time I need a qsnap I will do it by myself. May I ask why you do not mak it less wide and use the clamps on the sides as well? I use my qsnaps same way on all sides and I sewed some fabric wrappings for saving the project from dirt and waste through my hands. Greetings from Germany
from some one in the states, i never found the clips at the store, but they appear to be available at amazon. thanks for the video and keep up the good work. thank you
Great tutorial Nicole! I've been wanting to make these as well. Didn't realise that there are existing clamps for them. Will look for all the stuff, including the cutting tool, on my next Bunnings visit. Happy Holidays to you and yours! Stay safe ❤
Great tutorial Nicole! I,m like you I live in a village 1 general store 45 minutes to town ( Bunnings) so I toddled off to Bunnings got all the things you said or so I thought!🤣 So have to now wait for the next town trip, as I didn’t get the tool!
I am in the u.s. I watched your video, nice job by the way! But I was wondering where you get your side tensioners from. We have our hardware stores and also Walmart. Thank you
Making my own snap frame since watching your video. I'm going to use 3/4" PVC and I had to order the clamps on Amazon since my hardware store doesn't carry them. But I can make an 17" x 8" snap frame for under $15. Thanks!
Thank you for this brilliant video! I’m off to the hardware store tm 😂😂😂 I need vinyl to make your awesome projectbags. Wondering if plastic tablecloth will work 🤷♀️ By tm night ill be sorted out like a pro 🤣🤣 Thank you again and happy holidays 🎄💕
Funny, I just got the pc pipes and elbows to make one for myself. But was wondering how to cut it, now back to the store for the cutter and snaps later. Thank you!
Brilliant! I saw on another video that you can put your Q Snap clamps in hot water to warm them, then when they dry, the go back to the original tightness. Maybe it would work for these?
Awesome tutorial! So glad I found your video. I love in the US in North Carolina. I very much enjoy you site. How expensive is shipping from Australia to the US?
Thank you, as for shipping depending on the weight; it can be expensive...l.send a 300g parcel to the USA and it cots AU$25 tracked. Thw k you for watching ❤️
wow thats is is so easy to make. I bought one in a secondhand shop and the elbows were glued on one side not able to get them off so frame is bigger than i wanted never mind i do manage with it. In my quilting i use inches not very good with metric Thankyou for sharing on how to make them yourself what a great idea.
Good afternoon. I oive in South Africa, I have put together my frame as you have instructed, my issue is I can't find the snaps, what can I use to replace the snaps, I am a pensioners and cannot afford expensive stuff. Can you please advise me. Most appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Nicole, like you, living in Dalby, it's frustrating that not being able to get many cross stitch supplies, and we have a Bunnings so have to go and get some supplies ☺️. Where do you get the side tensioners from? Great step by step video and thankyou for sharing it. Merry Christmas and stay safe 🎄🎄 Bronwynne x
Great instructions! I did the same thing when I made mine, but my Bunnings didn't have the snap clamps (they do now). I actually bought the snap clamps from Clever Cages (A small business from Queensland). At the time I bought a length of about half a meter long, but they only sell 10cm long clamps now.
Oh wow was just like walking thru my bunnings lol and I'm in SA. Those tensioners on each end did you make those or buy them, if you made them any chance of a tutorial on how :p thanks
Lol...the tensioners are another video coming up...make sure to set you have subscribed and change the little bell 🔔 to all notifications...that way you won't miss the video 😉

Thank you for this video. I don’t want to spend so much money for a QSnap for every project. This will make it so much more affordable!
