Formula How to work out your size of fabric and elastic for the grime guard is as follows:
Working in INCHES
Q-Snap: Width + Height = ___ multiply x 2 = ______ then + 2 inches = ____ your strip should measure this.
Embroidery Hoop: Size of Hoop - 2 inches = ____ once you have this number, use the above formula. Example - 10" - 2" = 8in then take that number
8" x 4 = 32" + 2" = 34 inches
That will be the total length of the strip of fabric the with of the fabric is always 6.5"...
To work out what size your elastic should be is as follows:
The total length of Fabric divided by 2 example - 34 ÷ 2 = 17 you will need two of these lengths.

Thank you for the information, but I have a question. What if you have a lot of fabric like 57" by 42" how wide would you make the strip
I have a question on your formula for a hoop, you said to follow the above formula after you subtract the 2". The above formula says to multiply by 2 but you multiply by 4, which is correct? Thank you love your video
What a great idea. Recently discovered your channel. Nice to hear an Ozzie. Can you please advise who you purchase your labels from. Cheers Dianne Qld Aust.
Hi Dianne, and welcome to the channel...so glad you are here :) and a fellow Aussie too :) I got my labels from Aliexpress

I have done a Grime Guard for my Hoop. But when I put in on, I don't see a lot my work because Grime Guard take a lot of place in aere. If I make it less large it doesn't take all my fabric. Is it normal ?
What is a grime guard used for?
Where do you purchase your design labels, D?
Would like to know the ‘length’ of the elastic you used. I want to do one for my QSnap-same size! Thanks.
The formula is under this video for you 😊
Do you have a tutorial on how to make 10 in round grime guard for round hoops
No sorry I don't, but I do talk about how to work it how in this video :)
@@darvanaleedesignsstudio ok thankyou
Hi Nicole, I think someone has put an unwelcome add in your comments! Hope your able to remove it ok! Great tutorial I’ll give it a try I’ve just come back to cross stitch after a 15 year break! Do you have a tip on how much elastic to use, is there a formula?, ok sorry Nicole I just found it in the drop down box your fantastic!
Welcime back to cross stitch...l am glad you found everything you need and enjoyed the tutorial ❤😊also thank you for bringing that comment to my attention...l have removed it...if you see these you can report them 😊 thank you for helping me keep this community a safe space ...till next time happy stitching 🪡🧵❤
Formula doesn’t actually work properly without fudging. For an 8 inch hoop the formula should be 8” x pi (π) = X then X + 2
8” x 3.14 = 25” + 2 “ = 27”. Also using 6.5” for the width is not “always”. Hoops are not as bulky and wide as QSnaps so reducing the width makes it more logical even if you have lots of fabric to tuck in. Ps, to make it more professional and neater looking use a width of 1.5” for joining seam then use zig zag for each end as this will be visible upon finish. Roll and press approx 1/8 inch then fold slightly larger than elastic. Reduces how bulky the seams become.
