Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially underway, and that means it’s time to introduce some new characters! Shang-Chi played by Simu Liu is the latest addition to the MCU and it’s therefore time for him to get the traditional superhero origin movie treatment!
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings definitely raises some questions though. Like why did Shang-Chi’s father waste time sending assassins after them? Are those technically rings or bracelets? Why do best friends always insist on saying how long you’ve been friends? Why do they all get put in a cell that’s easy to escape from? How can Trevor Slattery communicate with Morris? Why are they in a BMW? What’s going on through all those VFX?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

AFAIK the official reason was, that they felt they would look too close like the infinity stones if they were rings instead of bracelets.

The whole "she was a girl so she didn't get to be tortured like the boys" reminded me of a fun story.
My mom was born in the 50s, so she attended high-school in the early 70s. Apparently, in her school (which was in Brazil), high school boys were allowed to smoke during breaks, but the girls weren't. When I heard that, my reaction was kind of the same. "Hey, thats sexist, how come these underage girls didn't have the equal right to smoke...wait a minute. Is this...good? Bad? Hurray patriarchy?"
Obviously the sane conclusion is that the fact that two problems can cohexist and even intersect without affecting the solution to either. Girls should be treated equally AND children shouldn't smoke. Just in case someone thought I was somehow advocating for the equal rights to get lung cancer at age 30.

@Frumentarii I think you completely misunderstood the point. This was in th 70s, and being able to smoke was considered to be a right. The girls were the ones being discriminated against. The irony was that the discrimination would end up being, in a bizarre way, good for the discriminated. It wasn't, by the way, because anyone who has ever met a teenager knows this sort of rule would never work. The girls smoked anyway, and then just handed the cigarette to a boy when an adult was around.
I will also remind you that a LOT of women are staying to fight in Ukraine, even elderly ones. Yes, the state's rule seems to be adhering to a relatively chauvinistic view that men are warriors whose role is to protect the frailer women, but clearly a large subsection of society disagrees. Also, I will assume that the "women and children first" was just used as an example and that you don't think children should fight. Hopefully.

@@yurinmahass4802 You know there is a less than 0 chance he wasn't, tho, right? An influencer from my country recently made the argument (in response to Uvalde) that children should have guns, work and drive cars (anarchocapitalists are hilarious).
Thats why I said I was assuming that he was not (hopefully) a complete nutjob, even though he had made a pretty suspicious comment based on a poor interpretation of the story I told and some ignorant opinions on Ukraine. But he might have been a nutjob. It is the internet. It is filled with them.
