- Serves: 2
Prep time: 20min
Cook time: 10 min
Ingredients
- 2 eggs, split into whites and yolks
- 20ml milk
- 30g flour
- a dash of vanilla extract
- 25g caster sugar
- butter and maple syrup to serve
Method
1. In a bowl, whisk egg whites until they form stiff peaks, then whisk in the caster sugar until smooth.
2. In a separate bowl, mix together egg yolks, milk, flour and vanilla extract until a smooth batter forms.
3. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter until just combined.
4. Place a frying pan (you have the lid for) on low heat.
5. Add the batter to a piping bag, lightly grease the pan and then pipe the batter into the pan. Add a very small amount of water to the pan and cover with a lid.
6. Cook for 5 minutes on very low, and then flip and repeat, adding the water again then the lid and cook for another 5 minutes.
7. Remove from the pan and serve with butter and maple syrup. - Розваги
I think you may have undercooked the middle, next time try using a nonstick or thinner pan that doesn’t retain as much heat. Looks like this heavy pan cooked the outsides too quickly, but not the insides
Can we be friends Luna?
Agree!
Agree
@@bluethanos8204 what why? Lol
@LunaVioletta7 prob based on your profile photo thats why lol 🤦♂️
When Andy licks the egg white meringue mix 😂
And the little hand claps and "calm down".
My pancake don't ever calm down and are often burnt 😊
The lick answered my question of if that was sugar or cream of tartar.
😂
Guy gave no recipe
In the description..@@dontitoatrain12
love the honesty and diversity of your channel’
Yeah. Other channels they are usually over exaggerating in the end. Like omg sooo gooood. As if every single recipe is flawless.
Same
@@user-dl8le5cs6tmaybe it is to them!!!!! People like you ….. this comment was unnecessary.
Those reactions are unnecessary. It's just about show, like many entire videos indeed. It can even happen that something may taste not so good as espected or just fine. A "it's good, I like it." is totally fine and enough. You can't have an orgasm everytime.
You somehow overcooked and undercooked them at the same time
Undercook/overcook….believe it or not, straight to jail
Heat was uneven or too high
Raw goo in the middle
Jap souffle pancakes are known to be difficult to cook. Personally, I prefer this pancake to the typical Western type. Haha. Its just so fun and cute to eat!
@@JayPro4xLMAO LOVE IT
Souffle pancakes are a dessert in Japan, not like a breakfast food to fill you up. Not quite the same comparison, but there are versions where they will like stick bacon or a burger patty to make it more like a meal.
Taste is being tested for not satiastion. So it wouldn't matter whether they were consumed for breakfast or dessert.
The recipe is in the description (three dots at the top then click description) love the work ❤
You a hero
Omg thank you so much!!
Thank you. I never knew that and was frustrated that I could never find the description.
Its amazing how many people don't know where the description is on a Short. I remember a rural scene, comments full of 'where is this?' The description provided a big hint but nobody had read it.
You can also tap and hold the screen, tap description, and see the recipe
Anybody wanna talk about his dedication to whip egg whites by hand?
It takes you 5 minutes max 10
@@sebischafer8761it hurts my hand as a kid when my mom ask for help. But hey its a good training
When I used to make these we used more egg whites, whipped them until you can only just hold over your head and less yolk to white ratio. 2 yolk 4 whites. Also we used a stainless steel griddle and lightly coated with oil bit very evenly so no browning in different patches. Looks super fluffy and delicious though chef!
Still waiting on the Cantonese family style dinner for Heun Wah please chef!
Reminds me of competitive cooking shows lol
The most entertaining contest I ever saw was when they had to make stiff peaks as fast as they could then when they were done hold it over their head
It was funny to watch all the people get meringue dumped on their head lol
Hey man just wanted to let you know I'm also waiting on the Cantonese family style dinner for Heun Wah, hang in there brother
For our big family style dinners everyone brings a dish. It’d be awesome if a dozen or so cooks/chefs posted their recipes here in the same day for one big beautiful meal. It still needs organizing so there’s everything from soup to appetizers on through dessert. What is your favorite to make?
Everytime Andy posts a shorts video, just so you know your comment is the first thing I look for 😂
I think Andy will not make your dish. Because if he does! Then you will stop doing this, and everybody will miss you in the comment section. Haha!
You undercooked them. They were still runny😂
It doesn't even matter what he's cooking. This guy is just so pleasant to watch
I love that even a professional chef gets startled by hot oil. Also any kind of pancake is delicious, whether it's crepes, trad. pancakes or Japanese pancakes.
They were splashes of water he squeezed into the pan.
Had these in a restaurant just off Harajuku street in Tokyo. They were incredible but felt light so I ate too many and then was very sick for the rest of the day 😂😂
what made you sick? Too much sugar or dairy?
@@ppssppwwewwf yeah gluten is bad too
That is absolutely amazing! 😋
That clap 👏 tho!!!! I do the same when something tastes or comes out good 😅
He needs to be using full fat milk and cover immediately. That’s why the pancakes were clearly undercooked. Use a tester needle to check doneness.
I agree regular pancakes soooooo yummy. Thank you for sharing chef Andy. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
They look so damn good andy, love your videos keep them up
In a word, they're light. Literally what you'd expect. Sometimes if I'm making a cute little breakfast I'll do it, but the standard style is just more practical and more filling.
I like that are lighter than normal pancakes. I often can even eat that many pancakes because they fill you up so quick.
I’ve seen some lately with a thin sheet of mochi on the top and macha powder those sorts of things, maybe a crème anglais instead of maple syrup and it looked heavenly. More like having Japanese soufflé for breakfast than pancakes. I also recommend trying “hotcakes” which is also Japanese. Those are some of my favorite classic pancakes round the world. Certain the packs of instant “hotcake” from Japan are way better than your average American instant pancake.
My favorite pancakes are Alaska flower company barley flower cinnamon chip pancakes. Absolutely loaded with nutrition, fiber and protein and they really fill you up. Not only that, it's grown and milled here locally.
What is it like living in Alaska?
Thank you for not automatically adoring everything you make. I had the same thought when I made these and wondered if I did something wrong... this validates my experience a bit
How'd you know both of you didn't make a mistake? Jamie Oliver ruins dished like fried rice according to uncle roger and Gordon Ramsey got told chef Chang his pad thai was bad.
This dude has taught me heaps and ive only been watching a couple of weeks. Seems like a chill dude . Gained a subscriber man.
I love japanese pancakes by itself as a snack, without the syrup
So happy to see that Andy also reuses the little terracotta pots from his Chris’s dips.
Gotta say Chef, I really love content from a cook of your caliber where you try something that turns out less than perfect and it gets called out.
My other guitar was made by Sabatier.
Cheers!
Any food in Japanese delicacy is so sophisticated.
Thanks for the honesty
They are delicious! Nice that you tried to make them. I think you might love them more if you ever get to go to Japan yourself.
Gotta love those little terracotta numbers from chris' dips ✌️
Everything that you made is good 😋
I'm glad I'm not alone in buying those dips and keeping the little terracotta pot it came in to use in the kitchen
Andy Cooks. Love your honest opinion! This is why we watch.
Me too, i still love that regular, traditional pancake
"calm down"😂
Really cool, you make it all look easy
Looks undercook. Too watery. It's supposed to be firm cook through and jingly.
* I love these, and if I ever get done with the huge waste of time part of my life, would really like to make these ⛬
My husband used to make me these, and I really liked them! 😊
Looks good
The pancakes are underdone mate!
I have to say, I've never really been blown away by the Japanese pancakes I've tried.
Yummy 😋
I’ve been curious about these Japanese pancakes, so thank you for making this video. If I’m going to eat a pancake, I do not think this would be my pancake of choice.
Thanks for the labor intensive Japanese souffle pancakes. Like you, I think I'll stick with my regular batter.
Day abillion of asking for cantonese style dinner.
-Bang Ding Soon
When you have them done exceptionally well they are amazing but I guess it's hard for a reason!
I think Andy did them exceptionally well.
Bro we know you’re a good cook already! Why bash on another!
Wow thanks. You made it look easy. Been wanting to try andake these but was afraid.
I love a chef who licks his whisk.
Super soft and jiggly ❤
Haha 😂 no fake expression and opinion. Love it.
They're nice but I like the cheese tarts that "uncle" place makes even more.
Now you can draw a sunrise on those pancakes
I think you need to cook them in slow flame for a bit more time. They look undercooked in the middle n overcooked from outside.
Love your vids Andy.
Thanks 👍
I love your cutting board. What kind of pan is that?
Using the old dip jars as ramekins, I keep those too, they’re so good
yuhhhh
So good, they just won't die
Exactly what I thought, either normal flapjacks or crepes, especially for the work it takes to make the soufflé kind
Tried these a while ago, quite a hasle to make but tasty to eat.
As always an amazing video with both it's components:
- Andy's amazing art
- Cantonese family style dinner request
Please don't forget cepelinai for Matt, thank you chef
Nooooo! They are so much better than flat pancakes 😊
I tried making this before too! Not my fav since I like filling meals. I leave the snacking to food with less carbs 😂
I love that dutch oven
Bro said I want medium rare pancakes
So fluffy
Interesting steam cooking method to cook them through. They look yummy and light. May I have mine with bananas and syrup on the side please :))
I'd like to see you try Anne Reardon's recipe for souffle pancakes please
Devine
FUWA FUWA!! LOOKIN FUWAFIN GOOD!! 👍
Try Swedish pancakes next 😁
Thanks for the sharing
I wish I had the skill and patience to cook like you. 😭😂
Yup! Sticking to the normal pancakes.
yes YES licking the whisker YESSS
That applause for himself. I felt that. I've done that!
They always look really good, but I have questioned whether they were enough better to be worth the extra effort… guess I’ll stick with mine too!😉❤️
I like the honest verdict 😊❤
The scrap sound 💀
From India 🇮🇳🇮🇳 love you 😍
For me doing a hybrid is the way to go.
Fold in beaten egg whites - yes
Just keep the pancake thickness regular in the pan. No waiting..no water hazzle.
Easy...best of both worlds.
Meringue. With a whisk. Wow. I'm pretty stand-mixer-dependent myself.
I loved the way he clapped. So funny
If you put salt and a little orange and lemon zest inside and use butter milk instead of normal milk. It's really nice
I see you also use the leftover fancy Chris's dips bowls in your kitchen :-)
Honesty 💯
Enjoy 😊
If I ever go to japan again, i must seek this
They look like they'd be good. I like my American pancakes.
Did he really mean to have licked the whisk at that point in time in the recipe obv doesn't matter if it was then or at the point in it being combined but just the last of raw egg whites with a bit of suger, is it really that nice lol. Love From Scotland xxxx 🏴
Nothing beats the original 🥞
Hi @andy_cooks that pan looks amazing! Could you share what it is?
I’m switching to all non extra layered pans and cook on induction. Any tips? Cheers from Amsterdam
i love how he says he'll stick to american ones as if he didn't cook it entirely wrong
please Chef, what the difference between German pancakes and Yorkshire pudding ??? please
Maybe a ring mold might help to keep a uniform shape 🤔
Should have made Dorayaki, best of both worlds
Try loco moco for Kauai. Trust me, simple Hawaii staple that’s gonna shock people and your taste buds
Plz make kaju (cashew) masala with garlic naan, an Indian dish, I'm sure you'd love it❤❤
The pancakes probably should’ve been rotated once before flipping. Also, if the flour that was added wasn’t sifted beforehand, that would make a big difference too. Lastly, when layering the pancakes, they looked underdone (too soft). All of that combined would make them underwhelming just like with a regular pancake.
😋😋😋
Andy try sambhar once....
