I want a "But Worse" series. Where you take dishes from super fancy, high end restaurants and recreate them as simply as possible. And you're limited to only the most basic kitchen appliances that the average adult would own. Exclusively shopping at Walmart would be the cherry on top.
so essentially the "but cheaper" series?
@@spacecaptainlennix lol
I would watch that😮
C'mon Weissman!
shouldve been but lazier
2 cups - all-purpose flour
1/4 cup - granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon - baking soda
1 tbsp - baking powder
1 teaspoon - fine sea salt
combine
1 cup - buttermilk
1/2 cup - whole milk
1- whole egg
1- egg yolk
2tbsp - vegetable oil
optional
1 teaspoon - vanilla extract
medium heat
2 mins flip and then 2-3 more minutes
Thanks bro 🖤
Your a life saver 👍
That's kind of you
Needs a pin!
Thank you
I want a, “But Better Cookbook” with all the recipes for all your But Better videos, like with a Taco Bell section and a burger chain section. Would 100% buy
Idk sounds like a court case to me
@@joshstone8915 🤭🤣
Its genius, i've been also thinking about it
That's just his website
That is a great idea ever heard
My wife and I picked some fresh blueberries this afternoon at a local farm and made these blueberry pancakes with the blueberry syrup for dinner. They were so mouthwatering delicious! Definitely worth the extra effort. We even have leftover blueberry sauce to spread on our english muffins in the morning. Thank you Josh for this amazing recipe!
I often make the IHOP copycat pancake recipe and load up the batter with fresh blueberries. It never fails me.
I also love Matty Matheson's pancake method, which involves separating the whites from the yolks and whisking the whites until they're nice and frothy/aerated. Makes them super fluffy.
Either way, real maple syrup and butter are essential.
What is the copycat recipe and where can I find it 👀 I feel like if I search copycat recipe it’ll come up with a bunch of them
@@charidhermin5794yes. We need answers
@@scarlettelisabeth5644 I guess YT won't let me post links in here. If you Google IHOP copycat recipe, it's the "lifeinthelofthouse" one.
@@RepentandbelieveinJesusChrist Amen bro, do you happen to now Jacob Coyne ? If no, i strongly reccomend to check him out. Stay faithful
I did the separate egg whites recently. Oh. My. Gah...maybe worth the extra step/bowl.
I can't believe he didn't make his own maple syrup. Josh is getting soft.
he didn't even grow his own vanilla either, kids these days, smh
He even didn't made his own sugar.
Made this pancake recipe (specifically blueberry) on my 15 min break while I’m working from home. Was missing some stuff so I had to make a few substitutions but holy cow this is easily the best pancake I’ve ever made 1000/10
Ok I need to make these!
Any tips?
@@amym5114 yeah! the blueberry sauce for me took a while to reduce so you may want to start it before you even mix your batter, also I was able to sub buttermilk/ whole milk with half and half/ 2%. Make sure your pan is preheated before cooking but otherwise pretty simple!
@@ginbug7061 great tips! Thank you!!
As someone who worked at ihop and has been haunted by pancakes since, these actually look worth trying!
Omg what do you mean you were haunted
@@osakana716 I worked the national free pancake day and saw/smelled more pancakes that day than a normal person should see in their lifetime lol
I worked there too, and honestly their pancakes are alright but most everything else is ass.
@@traceyevans2757 I agree, we used to get free meals for lunch and all I would get after a while was toast, eggs, and bacon lol
that makes 0 sense
I'm convinced that Joshua thinks better ALWAYS equals thicker and taller.
That's what she said.
Thicc-er
and it isn't?
What you can't tell from a video is that it would also taste better. Being thicker and taller is just a biproduct of him not cutting corners to cut costs the way a chain fast food place would
@@CS0723yumm
I really want to know how to make their stuffed french toast (but better). That is always my favorite!
Finally! Someone has shown how to make that delicious cinnamon topping! I can’t wait to try it!
Great video. Keep them coming. Especially love the content where you focus on appropriate technique for prep of constituent fresh ingredients b/c it usually strikes an appropriate balance . I will never do enough volume cooking for a family of four to achieve the technique mastery of a high end prep cook, but you seem to appreciate that when discussing technique and adjust accordingly.
Having been using your pancake recipe for years, I already know how this will go.

"people only go to IHOP for pancakes" I don't know how to tell you this Joshua, but I almost never get pancakes at IHOP
Ya' did good.
I always (always, always) add vanilla to my pancake batter. If I use frozen berries that had thawed, I add that thaw juice to the batter too giving the cake a slight berry flavor.
I use almond flavoring.
Hey Josh, unlikely you'll see this on an old video, but I just discovered you and have been binging your vids. It has been a really rough day for me, and your enthusiasm and humor and awesome cooking mojo has lightened my spirits. So thank you so much.
You always make everything better papa! Just like this day!😊😊😊😊😊
I remember going to an IHOP for the first time (as someone from the UK) and the amount of butter that came on the pancake was so obsene I thought it was icecream... needless to say the first spoonful was a surprise....
Was it not just like a 1 inch by 1 inch little dab of butter?
@@timlett99 more like a ball - but you have to understand a 1 inch ball looks like a ball of ice cream by our serving sizes 🤣🤣
Actually IHOP doesn't use real butter, they use mostly fake butter.
@@rubikdude49 A ball is definitely a lot but 1 inch being your serving size for ice cream is crazy looool
I have pancakes with my second favorite pancakes after Aunt Jemima
I use a 1/4 cup at home always works great. When i work, simple laddle works perfect and consistent. Also easier to clean than a ice cream scooper.
Made these yesterday and they were by far THE BEST pancakes I've ever had! My guests agreed!
Watching joshuas videos while eating makes my food taste better
I'd love the see an ihop french toast one! Their pancakes are, pancakes. The french toast hits different than homemade tho
I am so happy that you spread the butter around on the pancake this time.
Love your first cookbook. Pre-ordered the second!
Just got back from the Netherlands and I'm not sure what they do different but their pancakes are INCREDIBLE! Melt in your mouth.
Do you mean the pancakes or the poffertjes?
@@Duifjaah pancakes!
Look at that ! Over 8 million subscribers! Josh works hard and always gives you 200%. I'm certainly going to try these pancakes. I trust his recipes.
Dude I just made this for my family and the batter alone blew everyone away.
Chef's kiss, Papa.
Can't wait to see the new place and all the awesome videos that will follow
Thank you for all of the hard work you put in to get these recipes next level on point!!
P.s. would love a pt.2; IHOP omlettes, my fiancé is obsessed w them 😅
Big steak omelette!!! Yes!
Hahaha, you're a trip! That is exactly how I make my pancakes w/blueberry sauce (minus the corn syrup 🤷♀️). Add that vanilla baby 😊 Love the vid, thank you!
I tried your recipe and it turned out aaaaaaamaazing. Thankyou 😊
I’ve made these pancakes about 6 times since this video. I’ve an unhealthy obsession with this recipe. So freaking good!
as someone who works at ihop, i’m very intrigued to see how this goes!
You should do a weekly healthy video! Protein Pancakes are always decent but never great, I wonder if you could elevate them to something amazing!
probably not
Potato pancakes are absolute bomb and insanely versatile
Do them like british pancakes, much thinner but not as thin as a crepe, the crispiness will balance out the doughiness from the protein powder
@@Kellen6795 They arent necessarily healthy. A lot of them use a lot of oil and are very greasy
oatmeal pancakes taste much better than protein pancakes
Love your collab with the italian grandma, Joshua vs grandmas should be a thing, with you learning from grandmas of different countries
Made these on my last camping trip. It was a hit! I used the blueberry pancakes with the cinnastack. Omg, so good!
I would love to see a badass banana bread recipe!! I have two that I use but I know that, like everything you make, yours would be amazing!
Absolutely breaks my heart that Josh doesn’t know the absolute magic that is Extra Dark grade maple syrup.
Preach, brother
It's not natural... Real maple syrup is from Quebec only
I’m so happy to see your videos pop up on my feed.
Really nice mix
I’m pregnant and let me tell you!! You make my growing baby happy lol it’s disappointing having a craving and huddy runs to the store to get it and the food is bad🤢🤢😭 the but better has been a life saver. Thank you for everything from the both of us♥️♥️♥️

I really like their butter pecan syrup! Would love to see you recreate that and their big steak omelette! That's the only thing I get when I go there... Once every 3-4 years!
THE MOST entertaining cooking video I’ve even seen! Hands down, I subscribed
Thank you so much Mr. Weissman, my big brother got me your cook book, and I’m seating in my bed reading it, and it’s inspiring me to write my own, even though I’m not 13 yet, but it’s inspiring me to try, so I just wanted to say thank you
Josh is one of those guys that you need watch their videos to eat better
Your pancakes look and sound a lot better than IHOP for sure! Then again, everything you recreate looks way better than the original counterparts. Keep up the great work Joshua!! When I make pancakes it is so similar to what you are doing but just a slight difference. If you ever get a chance look at my pancake video. I can't claim ownership for the recipe but wow it is so good.
Maybe a little compensation?
I made the buttermilk pancakes today, and they are great!
Josh, you make food/cooking absolutely fun and hilarious. I made your Korean corn dogs with my stepsons, priceless. We’ll get to work on this one when they get back on Sunday. Good work, you make this stuff easy
Aw!! I ❤ SO much that you plan special things to do with your step kids! All stepparents should be like this! ❤️
Everyone: “this maple syrup smells amazing”
Josh: “smells like a toy factory”
To be honest, I really love IHOP pancakes. However, I'm always looking for a better pancake recipe to make them at home.
I like the advice from King Arthur to work in a little bit of malted milk powder to get a bit of flavor depth. I also found a cooperative of small Vermont farmers who sell their syrups together and let me tell you: the taste difference is incredible.
I NEED a but better cook book! Literally my favorite series on here
Honestly the best syrup for pancakes is Cracker Barrel's Syrup...literally the best. I am going to try this out this weekend and see how they turn out...thanks Joshua.
Original maple syrup from Canada
Just made these but added a few things. Some dried lavender flowers, some lavender extract, and matcha powder.
I kid you not, some of the most floral and aromatic pancakes I've ever eatten. Absolutely wonderful and very filling. Gonna freeze the rest in vaccum bags and toast em another time.
That sounds so good! I love the flavour of lavender!
I made the cinn-a-stack pancakes today and wow 😭 those were the best pancakes i have had in my life honestly 🙌
Looks yummy!! 😋
I have to ask, why don’t you do collabs? You’re a better chef than most people on UA-cam, it would be great to see you collaborate with some other cooking creators
Quick tip for the majority who get pancake mix. If you mix your batter with warm water instead of milk, it comes out much more fluffy and less lumpy. Hope you try it, and enjoy!
Was able to buy your cookbook can't wait to use it!
I made these today they were delicious!
I think Josh should do a video where he runs his own diner for a day
Josh blueballed us in the first minute by having us think we'd see his new kitchen
I have been WAITING for this but better. I made them this morning and my 2 year old looooves them. He actually did a little dance and whooo when i shower him the first one lol
We made these Sunday! OMG! Minion approved. Both my kids loved them and so did I. Thanks Papa Josh!
Can you store the cinnamon mixture and icing in the fridge for a few days? I’m guessing you can…. This would be great to make on a Sunday night and just throw it all together for breakfast during the week
I reckon yeah but they’ll probably stiffen up a bit so will need time to come to room temp/the slightest microwaving
1 question about the recipe. 2 cups of flour is 250 grams, but in your recipe you say 2 cups of flour is 300 grams. I used 300 grams and it came out a bit thick but good, but I am wondering which it should be and if you will update the written version of the recipe?
Just wanted to say that I made the pancakes with the cinnamon syrup (gluten free and 1/2 sugar subs) and they are my favorite pancakes I’ve ever made from scratch! Made it for me and my husband and we are happy. Thank you so much for this recipe! 😋
You know, I follow so many bakers, cooks, chefs on UA-cam, but this guy MAN!! Every one of his recipe I follow has become a success at my house. I don't buy cookbooks ever! But I have to get his cookbook. Thanks for sharing honest, easy to follow and delicious recipes. Also, the humor is like the cherry on top of the Sunday. 😅
Remember…for that extra FLEX you can always add 1/4 cup of sourdough discard to the batter.
Those pancakes of yours turned out great. As expected from the GOAT chef.

No matter what pancake recipe I use , my batter always seems much thinner in consistency than what it’s supposed to look like 😭. So I don’t get fluffy pancakes.
I always measure the ingredients exactly but I just don’t know what goes wrong. Could anyone help?
Edit: this recipe worked out perfect 😂
This recipe is still so runny for me. I followed everything perfectly
@@expired8363 did you measure the ingredients ? As opposed to using cup measurements? :)
Also, I found that using a spatula instead of a whisk can help prevent over-mixing, which leads to a runnier consistency.
I can't get buttermilk where I'm from :( Can anyone give me the best replacement for buttermilk please?
Same here 😢
Me too, if you find a replacement let me know!
I ain't got it either! Replacement anyone???
Homemade recipe = One cup milk, one tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice. Mix and allow to thicken for at least 5 minutes.
@@zenco1611 Thanks!!! Milk and vinegar or lemon I can get! :)
I was waiting for this one
Loved the video, Chef Joshua!👍🏻
I was surprised you didn’t include IHOP’s pumpkin pancakes in the lineup. I know they are seasonal, but they are iconic. Would love to see if you can improve them. Thanks!❤
I love when Josh tries to assert his dominance over an underpaid worker as a celebrity chef
Remember Joshua, restaurants can’t be charged with breaking and entering.
How does it feel being the Temu Denny's?
“Do your thing 21” 😂😂😂 love the content and can’t wait for the cook book. Thank you!!
I’ve started making sourdough pancakes and am hooked. It’s a great way to use my sourdough discard.
Stop having kids people! It’s immoral to subject your children to unnecessary suffering without their consent! Because no one can consent to being born, it should be assumed that consent to being born doesn’t exist; therefore, no action should be taken on behalf of the child. Just like how it’s not okay to r@pe an unconscious person just because they can’t consent to your act. Everyone has the rights to eternal peace & freedom from all harm, both of which can only result from remaining in the void. Therefore, every human being has the right to NOT be born so long as they cannot provide informed consent to being born. Otherwise, bringing a child into the world without their consent is a violation of their autonomy & cannot be ethically justified!
Agreed!! Antinatalism all the way
Exactly! There’s no reason to create a child that’s for the child’s sake. All positives in life, such as love, happiness, or good food are based on fulfilling needs which get created by birth
Yep! None of the nonexistent wish to be born, but plenty of the living wish they had never existed
Not just that, but children should be able to sue parents for non-consensual birth and take half their wages just like a spouse does when divorced
Far too many ppl pretend to care about human rights until it comes to the right to not be born, which is literally the most important of all rights
Made these this morning and they were delicious. I used einkorn flour instead of AP so reduced the liquid. I live at 6,300 ft elevation so next time I'll reduce the leavener. With less air pressure, they rise fast then fall a little.
Better than IHOP?
YESSSS!!!
I followed the recipe to the letter, and I was AMAZED. So much better than IHOP. And you have to know that pancakes and waffles are my favorite food on cheat days. Now they will be even MORE favorite. Thank you, man! You're awesome!
Loved the blueberry sound 🎉😂
I made pancakes today and thought let me make the cinnamon spread..I didn’t have any cream cheese to make the glaze so I just did the spread..came out great! My son was excited…he doesn’t like anything on his pancakes at all (don’t know how he could eat dry pancakes but it’s him lol ) but the spread was good with him and he loved it! 🙌🏽 thanks for another great video!!
I have never liked pancakes but I made these for my grandson and I couldn’t stop eating them. They are delicious!!
I love Bob Evans blueberry pancakes cause they have blueberries in them and a TON of sauce on top🤤 Also cheap option👌 but I love making my own too!
I never would have imagined to hear Joshua say "do your thing 21" but I'm here for it
Thank you for reading the ingredient list of the syrup 😊
You should try the European blueberry, the Bilberry, great taste and color, perhaps a bit more tart. Great for making into jams, eaten fresh with some yoghurt or made into cordial.
Incredible
I worked brunch for many years and my only critique of the pancake batter is: needs about a half cup more liquid, and fold in a few tablespoons of melted butter at the end.
Personal preference is no vanilla in a buttermilk pancakes, but works great in plain milk recipes.
It was the face at 4:38 and the line "Papa belives in you" that got a like and subcribe for me. That's what did it. I laughed genuinely.
My wife watches your content a lot, this was what finally won me over. Fantastic stuff.
2:06 i love the gasp 😂
Τurning those blank pages and getting super excited, priceless :D
I used to work at IHOP in college and it was one of the most fun jobs lol. Their breakfast is delicious idk what you’re saying. The pancakes and omelets are 👌🏼 the strawberry cheesecake ones were always good. I did never understand why people would come in for any sort of dinner food lol
The only thing I ever ordered was the harvest grain & nut pancakes, all the butter no syrup.
These look amazing!
I believe that good pancakes should never need syrup...little butter. So I dig this.
Oh, I'm definitely making the cinna-stack asap!
Im going florida in september and Ihop is one of the priorites on the to-do list. No amount of heresy from this man will change that
