I genuinely think every party member deserves love, but I can not deny that my love for Gale outweighs everyone else.
These are just some lines that made me fall for him (at least... ones that did not require additional text for context) and there are more still.
Gale deserves all the forehead kisses in the world and I just love his character so much. Tim Downie did such a wonderful thing, bringing Gale to life like this.
That can be said for all the actors, of course. BG3 is unreal incredible.
Gale has the most middle aged university professor vibes ever.
Gale in a professor sweater and glasses has my loins tingling.
I don't think I could cope with a class with him teaching tbh. I'd probably pop a brain blood vessel trying not to be horny on main in his class. And you know he'd teach something like Literature. That's a class you want to concentrate and do well in.

gale is so crazy to think he wouldn't be good father material- i mean, just look at the guy
I was literally thinking about this yesterday- it feels like the next layer of showing him that he is enough. That he is such a great guy. I think there's some back in forth on my mind on the degree that his insecurities impact his interest in having/adopting children but there is no doubt in my mind based on the love he shows tav that if he wanted to be a father to a child, he would give 200% and be outstanding.
Ok sorry for the rant but wow the timing on that comment lmao.
I was also thinking this, he would be an amazing father. I imagine after you get married we can convince him of that fact pretty easily.
@@RedTyrant I think this also ties into how important consent is for him. Larian has allowed everyone to be great about consent in romantic senses, but I do think Gale makes a big point of it in and out of romance.
I think Karlach just cares so much, but I do agree with your sentiment that he values life and being kind and fair. I think her time in the hells likely affected that and Gale's life growing up in the City of Splendors is a big juxtaposition.
Wyll is huge on honor but there's definitely times where I'm like ???? WHY DO YOU APPROVE OF THAT. And Gale would not approve or may even disapprove.
I think Gale is the one whose approval choices reflect the most kind nature, but I think Karlach wins out in really being invested in the party members' lives. Gale cares, but way less if you are not romancing him. Karlach is more consistent imo if that makes sense.

I will say, being a good person dosn't always mean you'll make a good parent, but I do believe Gale would be a wonderful family man. I wonder if that's his self-doubt talking, in addition to the fact that you're in the midst of a world-changing adventure which would be foolish to bring a child into at the time. But he's so amazing, I'm glad to see others enjoying him as a companion and as a romantic partner
@@roramoya Oh absolutely, parenting requires a lot more than simply good character. Definitely agree that mid-battle is not the time but I wouldn't be terribly shocked if one of the kids from the adventure were to need it, Gale would be one of the first to step up. He has a whole ass tower and a doting mother that would provide quite a bit in their own rights lol.
I do romance other companions, but Gale is my favorite and I equally enjoy his commentary and character as romance partner or a companion alone.

Also he still wants to marry you and have you meet his family even if you turn into an illithid. So he truly doesn’t care about looks (or the man is just secretly super kinky haha)
Everyone deserves love, I just happen to give a slightly disproportionate amount to Gale :P

Sometimes I wish I could erase this game from my memory so I can go back and romance him all over again with a fresh mind. It really took me by surprise that I would end up caring about this character and actually start swooning and nearly falling off my chair at some of his lines. I'm too old for this shit, but i'm also not immune to that mischievous smile and big brown eyes.
I know exactly what you mean! I was like "Why am I blushing at this digital man telling me I am wonderful???" but man, it really just hits you. I'm definitely not immune, either and I'm ok with that haha.
@@lidlrini lol I can’t tell you what a relief it is to hear other people going through the same reactions. When did he first get you? I started playing multiplayer and my mate was controlling him so I missed a lot of his stuff before the party. Then when I started my solo run I felt like I HAD to take Wyll as my caster cos Gale was a main in the other game so I left him behind and it wasn’t until the weave scene that I properly paid attention. Omg the way he looks at you, the whole anticipation of a kiss thing, my face was bright red, with a big dorky smile plastered across it. I’m sure I was probably twirling my hair like a schoolgirl too. Then it hit me and I thought to myself “Wait, sorry, wtf is this now? Have I ACTUALLY got a crush on him?!”. I was initially concerned but I’ve also reached the point where I’m cool with it now and i’m enjoying the good vibes 😎
@@Slightscribbles I think initially his wit and sarcasm was a pull, but I started liking him when we met Raphael because he goes back and forth from very thought provoking and having a lot of really powerful insight I agreed with, to saying little quips like "down came the claw- maybe we should start growing our nails".
The point where I think I was just head over heels was his rant about Blackstaff Academy. I didn't put the whole thing in this video but I was locked in hard when that dialogue happened haha.
I'm also a big fan of his excitement over chess/lanceboard.
@@lidlrini Oh yeah! I just saw the Raphael bit on my new run. I love when he starts thinking his thoughts aloud, biting his nails or fiddling with his beard and then hones in on something smart. Haven't seen him talk about Blackstaff yet in my games, I love that there's still stuff to uncover. I wish there was a proper lanceboard mini game with him at the camp or something, I love seeing him get excited about it. And book shopping too, I couldn't get him to Sorcerous Sundries fast enough.
Did you ever see his loving cat dad reaction if you accidentally make Tara mad by taking the letters without asking?
@@Slightscribbles everything you said, yesss! The Blackstaff Academy dialogue you have to prompt when you're in the arcane tower in the underdark, I got it here after activating the power/lights but I remember getting it when we first walked up to the tower for the first time in my first game.
Also yeah lmao I have a video of finding Tara and the letters before getting the quest, and his cat dad response cracks me up. I would have put it in this video but I didn't want people to have to read for this one, so perhaps I'll make a video of Gale lines that specifically have text leads. I thought about doing dialogue readings but I am not a talented voice actor x.x
I liked the fact that he is practical and reasonable.
With Raphael, each companion refuses to hear what he says because of what he is. Except Astarion who is just desperate.
Gale is the only one to figure that you probably have something the devil needs and thus leverage to possibly outsmart him.
I always chalked that up to his classic wizard hubris- he's smart enough to realize there's greater context behind what Raphael says, but he's still stuck with that "I can outsmart him where all others failed" kind of mentality that never turns out well. A really well written character trait that can be both a flaw, and a strength, which is why Gale is such a delightful lil dork

I always thought that was his classic hubris. Given the information we had at the time, there’s no reason to believe that we had any leverage whatsoever over Raphael.
The most reasonable conclusion to make in that situation is that Raphael saw the party as easy targets for getting souls. A group of people who have souls about to be destroyed by a mind flayer tadpole sound like the perfect marks for a devil contract.
@@missmorbid1439 if he wanted souls he just had to show at camp and murder everyone. But even he couldn't get the crown of Karthus on his own, that's why he had to resort to manipulating the group, maybe several other adventurers at the same time, like pawns on his chessboard.

That’s not how devil contracts work, if he simply killed them, their souls would go to their respective afterlives. The only way Raphael would get the souls is if they signed the contract.
I kinda want to know what happens if you encounter Raphael as Wyll, can you sell your soul to a devil twice?
The chortle he does at the end of “their collection of rare tomes is UNPARALLELED” is so nice to listen to, he sounds so geeky and excited
That is one of the reasons I chose this! It's one of those rare moments where he comes out of his shell/typical demeanor gets extremely excited about something he is passionate about. I'm obsessed!
it's a shame that a lot of people chalk him up to some pure smug bastard who: eats your artifacts (he only takes 3 lmao), constantly talks about his ex (a freaking goddess, power imbalance , mind you), but when you get to know him he's just a thoroughly insecure ❤nerd❤ who needs to see his self-worth AND needs help healing from the fact that he was groomed by mystra.
also tara, tara is a big bonus, i wish we have her around even if we're not playing as him.
i have never been so endeared towards a character in such a long time. i will remember this man made of polygon forever.

EXACTLY THIS- I really wish people could stop taking Gale at face value. Even though they can see the nuance and trauma of the other characters, somehow no one finds it suspicious or unhealthy that an immortal goddess who was once his teacher became his lover??
@@beccazach I think power imbalance is something that is not talked about as much as other types of cycles of abuse, but it is SO dangerous and problematic :c
People saying he is cocky/arrogant/egotistical don't understand that he does it as compensation for his lack of self worth.
But it's wild to me the people can see nuance in other characters, but not Gale x.x
EVERYONE in our merry band has trauma of some kind, generally religious in nature. The level of commitment involved is immense and it's important to recognize and respect each type.
@@lidlrini Absolutely! And I think the unnecessary hate Gale gets is due to ppl not recognizing his coping mannerisms from his trauma, interpreting him to be a 'mansplainer', 'narcissistic', etc. It speaks to how abusers like Mystra who aren't overtly 'evil'- unlike abusers such as Cazador or Gortash- have their abuse of power swept under the rug, leaving the victim with no one to help them get out of the situation. Especially when it's framed as a 'romantic' relationship when it's really not; Gale was trapped and slowly stopped connecting with other friends and family (except Tara, who was trying to help him), because Mystra brought him into her realms so much that he thought she was showing him true love and connection. Gale's situation is limerance- due to his love for magic, he says he automatically feels connected to Mystra, but it's not due to her personality or anything that would create a truly loving, healthy bond.
So yeah, all the companions deserve to have their abuse understood and not diminished. They're all unique, fantasy circumstances yet still reflect situations that often happen in the real world.

The first time I heard "My time is yours" I gasped and giggled in such a way my SO came over and went "I take it I have competition." I loved how he encouraged Mol, too.
haha awwhh that's so cute! And yes, the moment with Mol stands out to me more than so many other lines! His adoration for lanceboard makes me go into dreamboat daydream mode lol.
During battle when its his turn and he goes 'Unleash me' 🥵🥵

He has so many sexy lines! "Your desire" "Quite ready for you" etc. Larian definitely know what they are doing😂

My favourite is when you speak to his projection and it does what I imagine Gale considers to be a 'fun pose' when it explains it has some of his personality. Or when his projection gets left behind at Sharess' Caress 💀
I know there's a lot of additional context for this in Gale's case, but "With you I forget my goddess" (4:04) is SUCH A RAW AND BEAUTIFUL LINE 🥺💖 even outside of the game I'd love to hear that from someone lol
it really is! I remember seeing an interview where Tim said he had to record and re-record the boat scene over and over and honestly, it's so perfect. I can't get over his dialogue in this scene. Him asking "do you doubt me?" hit me like bricks and I think it's been removed from the scene now :c
But Gale in general is just such a pure love, and I can't stop fawning over him

Damn the male love interests in this game could not be any more different, yet i find myself simping for each one. Yes, i came here for the hot, sassy vamp, but i stayed for the nerdy wizard and the awkward hero.

I adore Gale. Haven’t done any romance, planning to do that on my Durge run I’ll be doing once I finish my first, but he is forever in my party

Unfortunately everyone judges him by the 1st interactions. Ex obsessed, eats your artifacts, talkative.. 😭 He is anything but that. But people are impatient so they dictate "ugh gales a bich" literally what my friend concluded him to be after talking to him twice 😑😑😑😑😑😑😑 so yep that's the majority for you..
Left out an exchange where he gets really protective of you after Nettie stabs you(by avoiding her questions)
I tried getting this dialogue again on multiple saves and either didn't have one prior to the interaction or was missing something else. I had a high approval rating in one and it didn't trigger so I'm very confused. I did try for about 2 hours or so messing around though. I wanted it so bad hahaha.
When I first started playing Baldur's I did it only for Halsin (yet fell in love with Astarion). I couldn't stand Gale, i just couldn't. I'm trying all romances so of course I ended up going for his at some point. Now, here I am, head over heels with him after finishing it.
I truly talk to so many people who weren't that into Gale initially and then actually do his romance and fall in love with him 😭😍

I like all of the companions in Baldur's Gate 3, except for Gale. I love Gale.

I admit, I was kind of indifferent to him at first. I went into this game intent on romancing Astarion but dammit this man stole my heart. Started a second playthrough with the intent of romancing either Astarion or Halsin but I couldn't stay away from Gale 😭

I can't even lie. I loved him since i frist recklessly walked up to the unstabe waypoint and freed him. My friend didn't even get to save before i reckless touched the damned thing. He wanted magic thing i would go as far to rob it from my friend, he had me smitten since first meeting.
I don't think my friend overly enjoys my Gale obsession.
But i could care less, Gale is a beautiful character.

I'm trying to romance Gale on a durge run, but Atarion and Wyll keep cropping up. Astarion scene came up and I became his first friend, was all excited to see Gales romance and immediatelylong rested again to get it... and Wyll just dances onto screen. Guy was never even in my party! 😂
Ohh be careful about that, you can only actively "romance" 2 people at a time, so until you reject one, it won't open up for another. Fortunately with Wyll's dance you have the option, because otherwise with Astarion you can't really decide your status until act 2.
But good luck hahaha
Gale is the first romance of my very first durge (Resist) and now I can’t stress how much I love him.

Kiss option in his romance dialogue stopped working, the dialogue simply ends and the animation fails to appear
Certain banters between him and NPCs are missing
Also he has a dialogue option, that’s named “not found”
All things i noticed in act 3. So frustrating to see this
Uncertain about ALL of that but with the kisses, that is actually a mod issue, and I'm experiencing it on most of my characters as well. I downloaded mods for the first time the night before the patch (I don't keep up with the dates generally) so I might just be locked out of kisses forever and it breaks my heart.

@@lidlrini the mod issue is fixable as long as you update the mod (wait a few days after the patch and there is usual an update) or remove the mod completely which is easy to do with BG3 mod manager
@@cedion yeah unfortunately removing the mods seems to have corrupted some of my files, but I do know some people see results with this. I may have updated incorrectly, i'm uncertain. It's been awhile since I messed w/ mods lol- but thank you for putting this here! It's always nice having things to troubleshoot and try at least.
I loved the chessboard puzzle because Gale tried so hard to be helpful, only to realize that he was playing the WRONG GAME. 😂
The objective was actually to think outside the box and blow up the king piece instead of making any moves. It doesn't feel particularly "classically" clever, but boy do you feel smug when you notice that that thing is the only piece to have an HP bar.
It is indeed an option to blow up the king piece to pass the test quickly but if you actually want to play the Lanceboard as intended, his suggestion if you follow it is correct in giving you a checkmate.

I really enjoy romancing Gale. I only wish the magic mirror would let you shave his beard. I know a lot of people love his beard, and you're welcome to love it...but I'd rather not kiss someone whose face feels like a cactus.

I think every piece of this footage was from before I downloaded mods. The armour in the end scene was adamantine splint armour if that's what you mean?

None of this is attractive or appealing. I don’t understand the appeal as a love interest. I love him as a companion you couldn’t pay me to sleep with him let alone date him and his ego.

All his talk, about his ex, really put me off. And needing to eat all my good objects I find! So I swapped him with Karlach and avoided talking to him at camp so he wouldn't leave me when I had nothing magical for him to eat..... now I'm in act 3 and Orin has stolen him. Lol.

@@art2cute I’ve kept him well fed and he’s in my party a lot of the time, he’s just so very undateable in my eyes. Especially with a male character, he’s the least convincing bi or gay man there ever was lol. If any of the characters should be gender locked it’s Gale. And yeah I almost feel sorry for Mystra when he talks about their relationship. He sounds like he was an insufferable boyfriend!

All his antics about knowledge, books and chess. He also seems to be a romantic at heart. All of this just speaks to a lot of people, especially nowadays, in an age of education and hobby exploration. In general a cool dude imo.
