Astarion is fake, dishonest and closed off at the start, it's true. But if you don't ascend him and accept his refusal to drink Araj's blood, he changes so much towards Tav/Durge. We are simping him not because he's a dick, we are simping him because we actually can change him into being a very nice person. In real life you just can't. You can't change a dickhead by being nice and solve his/her main problem. And in BG3 we are given a chance to do it. This is one of the reasons why I simp him, there are others, but this comment is already too large😅

Astarion’s comments are very performative and fake (and I understand his trauma and why he acts like he does) but Gale’s comments and sass comes STRAIGHT from his heart and ego… no pretense whatsoever 😂😂 he’s truly the sass master… wizards and their hubris… (and incredibly loyal, good, and romantic) I think the reason he always gets high approval super fast is because he has the most realistic morals. People like Astarion, Lae’zel, and Shart (at first) lean toward more selfish, rough options, while Wyll and Karlach are more lawful good. Gale is somewhat morally gray and often, most players are the same way. I was hoping to convince the toll collector to explode herself on honor mode when the game decided to have Gale trigger the dialogue, poor schmuck failed the dialogue checks miserably with his 8 charisma and I had to bust my ass to win a fight i wasn't ready for. romancing him as a custom tav is all well and good, but romancing him as the dark urge adds a special layer of hilarity, one I think that applies to all the more good-aligned companions. hearing gale dismiss my concerns about trying not to kill him as cheese-fueled night terrors absolutely killed me.
I kinda hate how Gale is the punching bag for the community. He's literally the healthiest and sweetest love option other than Karlach and maybe Halsin. Astarion is constantly manipulating and gaslighting your character (which only gets worse if you Ascend him), Shadowheart doesn't even like you in the beginning and can end up hating you very easily if you don't get the right rolls in dialogue and her whole personality until the end of act 2/beginning of act 3 is she's literally a brainwashed devout religious girl, Lae'zel tries to kill you like four times throughout the first two acts and is also brainwashed, Minthara is constantly on a mission to turn your character or herself into some kind of megalomaniac which comes off as very manipulative, and Wyll (as sweet as he is) is kinda just there and really only cares about his pact and daddy issues. They all have great character arcs and are written and acted wonderfully, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they're bad characters or people are wrong for romancing them, I just don't see the appeal to most of them whereas Gale's appeal is pretty obvious-- he's witty, charming, handsome, and supportive from the very beginning to the very end, and most importantly HE'S NOT CONTANTLY TRYING TO MANIPULATE OR KILL YOU. Stop abusing Gale. STOP IT.

I kinda hate how Gale is the punching bag for the community. He's literally the healthiest and sweetest love option other than Karlach and maybe Halsin. Astarion is constantly manipulating and gaslighting your character (which only gets worse if you Ascend him), Shadowheart doesn't even like you in the beginning and can end up hating you very easily if you don't get the right rolls in dialogue and her whole personality until the end of act 2/beginning of act 3 is she's literally a brainwashed devout religious girl, Lae'zel tries to kill you like four times throughout the first two acts and is also brainwashed, Minthara is constantly on a mission to turn your character or herself into some kind of megalomaniac which comes off as very manipulative, and Wyll (as sweet as he is) is kinda just there and really only cares about his pact and daddy issues. They all have great character arcs and are written and acted wonderfully, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they're bad characters or people are wrong for romancing them, I just don't see the appeal to most of them whereas Gale's appeal is pretty obvious-- he's witty, charming, handsome, and supportive from the very beginning to the very end, and most importantly HE'S NOT CONTANTLY TRYING TO MANIPULATE OR KILL YOU. Stop abusing Gale. STOP IT.
