Glycemic index should be discussed with glycemic load. Further how we combine foods is also important as certain foods, for instance vegetables can reduce glycemic index of others. I prefer using the word glucose because sugar can refer to other simple carbs such as cane sugar milk sugar and such. After all it is glycemic index not sugarmic index.

She is right! Higher glycemic indexes cause the pancreas to increase the production of insulin, thus converting that sugar into fat, which will be stored in your body. As a result, your cells may become insulin resistant, a step closer to diabetes.

EricShFG Gutierrez carb & caloric intake is completely commensurate with what you burn. Example; remember Michael Phelps, Olympian swimmer...he ate more pasta in a day than you & I could eat in a week. The only way and I mean ONLY way to avoid gaining is to burn more calories or equal to what you take in. It’s calories in; calories out

It's down right pathetic the food that is served in hospitals. They either don't know, or don't care about true nutrition for their patients. And I was upset because the speech therapist didn't actually do therapy! I had to get on the Internet to find exercises to teach my husband how to swallow again. AND I had to tell the nurses and doctors how to unclog a feeding tube!!! So, with that said, I take these kinds of videos with a grain of salt. People need to do extensive research, and not rely on these so called experts.

Slow carbs are amazing for sustained energy, mitigating sugar spikes in your blood, and reducing hunger (unlike fast carbs/sugars that cause hunger after your sugarlevels crash). However, slow carbs can still get you fat. It's just not as likely since you won't be as hunger, and therefore will be less likely to overeat.
At the end of the day, it's about energy balance. You can eat 80%+ fast carbs and not gain fat if your calorie intake is at maintenance or below. It is just much harder than with a proper satiating diet and much less healthy.

I question the statement "need grains" in diet. The word " need" is the issue.. really? I don't think so. Grains and farming made civilization and human populations to grow and go beyond Hunter gather stage, But!! That doesn't mean the grain was healthier for them.. it just was an easier way not to starve, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a carnivore or hater if grains, but we should be honest and truthful about what our bodies need vs what we like.

The glycemic index is only half the story and makes this whole presentation misleading. You must also consider the glycemic load. Watermelon has a very low glycemic load, far better than the apples. She says "don't worry about eating too much watermelon," but doesn't explain why. For its portion size, the watermelon has a very low GL, excellent for keto and low carb eaters. Corn flakes and watermelon are NOT the same, they impact blood insulin in dramatically different ways. Also oranges may be "low" GI and low GL, but have more than 13 grams of net carbs, putting them way out of the low carb category.

No doctor is infallible. You can find contradictory information about anything regarding food.
Remember the whole butter versus margarine debate?
Remember the egg whites versus egg yolks debate?
Information is given to us i with the best intentions by WHOMEVER is presenting information based on whatever information comes forth. And there are contradictions all over the place
There’s no reason to reason to have doubts about Dr. Berg or ANY doctor.
Just have doubts about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING you hear or read regarding food, and make choices based on what works for you.
And there are ALWAYS studies to back EVERYTHING up. The prevalence of studies doesn’t always ( or even USUALLY) have anything at all to do with the efficacy or a benefits what we consume. ( Mainly because It costs sometimes millions of dollars to produce whatever is intended to be impressive to the gullible).
Big Pharma” and other well-financed special interest groups can pay $$$$$$$$ for studies to back up even poisonous substances to show how they are “GOOD” for us.
Sign me “ANOTHER big fan of Doctor Berg’s.”

and don't give me that long ass explanation. tell it to someone else. i've done long research before. so i'm not a newbie.
I'm 40 years old but i look like 18. that's the result of my long ass research about health.

My thoughts is that the dietitian is influenced by the snack industry...🤨...Folks are going keto with intermittent fasting is killing the snack industry and Weight Watchers stock. Eliminate the grains, go low carb and high fat for better health.

Sony B Dietitians are the nutrition experts hands down. They are professionals who are regulated in Canada by their provincial college. No one else has the educational background re: human nutrition to provide evidence based nutrition guidance to the public and patients under their care. 4 years of university and an internship in an accredited program - all focused on nutrition. No other health professional has this expertise. They are not influenced by the snack industry. There are a lot of quacks out there looking to make a quick buck off of someone who is vulnerable or desperate.

The starch diet is best. Low fat plant-based diet. in this diet, carbs are a good thing. no oils, no meats, no dairy. for better weight loss make sure no avocados or nuts&seeds while on the starch diet. I have been on this diet for 18 days and I have lost 6 1/2 lbs.

@@deborahhebblethwaite1865 I agree. we should do what works best for us. Very true, we are all different. What's good for me, may not good be good for you, and vice versa. So far the starch solution has lowered my daily amount of basal insulin. I used to be on a basal rate of 67.500 units a day, as now I'm a basal rate of 38.600 units daily. I'm losing weight and feeling great. We should all do what works best for us. Best of luck you.

She doesn't qualify why she thinks we need grains. And a breakfast with grains is the worst thing you can do after a night of sleeping. You will just spike your insulin even higher. Eat a veg and protein. Nice options here, but she needs to back up her claim from a scientific / nutritious point of view. Just look up a glycemic index chart and avoid the higher ones.

@Good Day I think you might be confusing what you want with what your body prefer:)
But maybe there is a few genotypes who do better on some low glycemic carbs, but it seems to me that most adults do best on as few fast carbs as possible - I think sugar and fast carbs along with vegetable oils are the main cause of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity, but it is science not yet fully understood I will admit:)

Glucose is important to the level that if we don't consume it, our bodies produce it.
