I'm only 34 but I wanted to make sure I did all I could to avoid menopause symptoms. Going plant-based I've been able to reverse my diabetes, gone down 4 pants sizes, lost and kept off 70lbs, no more headaches, mood swings or GI upset! Thank you for sharing this with the world!
Wow, that’s awesome 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I was miserable and ready to try anything. I’ve been doing this for only 4 days and already seeing a reduction in my hot flashes. I think a Nobel prize is in order! 🥵👀😁 Thank you!!!
I suffered from hot flushes throughout my life and they've disappeared completely since switching to a whole food plant diet. I have no menopausal symptoms at all, quite the opposite, I am healthier and slimmer and more energetic than ever, and no mental fog either!
Thats awesome, u go girl 🎉. Wld love to know what you're doing if u wouldnt mind .... My periods ended over 3 yrs ago & i still get hot flushes, night sweats, low moods, irritability & now have started wth creaky joints, neck etc, which worries me. Not fair! I'm 59, and vegan. Tks, take care, hugs
@@JS-zn1zp Thank you soooo much for that, will definitely give it a try, v kind of u to help. I know of Brooke Goldner, will check her out again. Tks. Hugs
Lulu and meow, what helped u to beat hot flashes
What diet did you have ,can you share please
I know this comment is 2 years ago and I hope you're doing well, but I wanted to say SAME. I'm 37 and have been having hot flashes since 31. It's so severely affected my daily life. I've periodically gone plant based, but never as long term as I've been plant based/vegan now. I can't believe the change. I really don't get hot flashes at all anymore. If I have gotten a sense of one coming on, which is rare, it's as gone as quickly as it came.
I have been juicing fruit and vegetables. I have only had 2-3 hot flashes (without sweating) in the last week! I had been suffering with up to 8 hot flashes a day for 3 months. It also stopped the heart palpitations which were brought on by the hot flashes. Worth a try!
I experienced the same results when I reduced my dietary fat - my hot flashes went away...completely! When I eat too much avocado or nuts/seeds, they return. Bottom line, if you suffer from hot flashes (and other menopause symptoms) it's worth experimenting with your fat consumption. Praying it'll help someone :)
Thankyou for saying that. I thought he was crazy, lol. I probably get more "healthy" fats than anything else in my diet (trying to eat healthy, which am starting to get confused about what that is since menopause), and feeling like the hot flashes are killing me sometimes. You saying that is making me go and re-listen. Thankyou. Blessings!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I could not figure out why I was experiencing so much night sweats at night ..now I know! Because I would eat a few nuts before bed.
I second that, I have also completely remove sugar from diet and added green tea. Not too sure how that helped but my hot flashes went away.
Wow glad to hear that your menopause is heal by avocado thanks for sharing about menopause🌷💖❤💝 i am also menopause patient.
I have found the same thing. Now soy helps but it has some fat in it. So I eat it but a little here and there in a day so that the fat does not cause hot flashes. It seems to work.
I am vegan 51 and I do not know what the symptoms are, I do not have any symptoms except feeling great. Thank you plants.
Excellent information as always 🙏🏼thank you
Thank you so much for great information 🙏🏻. It’s so helpful
A good hack for peanut butter is the powdered variety; I use PB2. You use 2 TB with water (more or less depending on the consistency you like) and it’s only 1.5g of fat (2%). So easy and tasty. I use it all the time in smoothies and on oatmeal.
I use powdered PB as well! (The one I find at Costco.) I’ll mix it with lime juice, a bit of vegan “no-fish” sauce or coconut aminos, and sriracha sauce. It’s great on grain bowls.
Me too!!! I put pb2 in my smoothie 🥤 everyday!!
That's the only pb i eat. Too bad it's so expensive though here.
Čbvmç,
I am 54 years old, gone through menopause, no hot flashes at all..... been vegan for 5 years.... makes sense🙂
Good for you. Got flashes are hell on earth, 😠 so so embarrassing
Game changer
thank you so much for this great info
Thankyou so much for sharing 🙏
Thank You So Much! 🙏🏾
7:28 - Doc is explaining parchment paper like this video is for men too!!! 🤣🤣 Thank you for all your info!!! It’s helped me in in two days by cutting them in half already!! I was already plant based for three years but I wasn’t eating soy daily. I’m on day 4 of tempeh and also soy beans. Drastically improved so far.
Thanks again!
Thanks
Thanks so much I am going to make the soy beans! I was eating edamame and had no clue that was not the same as soy beans. This helped do much!
Edamame ARE soy beans. He just said they're immature soy beans.
@Amy S. Same here!!
Yep
@@eatplantsloveanimals The immature beans are great, just not as beneficial in this aspect. The mature beans have a lot more of what you need to affect hormone imbalances.
excited to try the recipies! Just ordered the book and beans👍
Awesome information. Thank you for sharing. ❤️🇨🇦
This was a fantastic series! 💚
Thank you all for all you’ve shared over these videos 👍
I’ve been doing a whole food, plant-based diet since June 1 and I can see a huge difference. I started it as part of a Daniel Fast and kept it going because I felt so good while doing it. I have learned a new way to cook that is fun and maximizes use of the local Farmer’s Markets, have lost 10 lbs of fluff (I’m generally thin) and have not had one hot flash or night sweat since starting the diet. Thank you for your science-based info! It’s a game changer. I’m gently introducing this to my family and they are coming around more slowly, yet I’m hopeful they will at least reduce the amount of processed and animal products they consume.
I’ve come up with some wonderful ways to eat the soybeans, I put them in my tofu scramble for breakfast, I use about 1/4 cup soybeans with frozen berries, banana and lemon juice and Ceylon cinnamon and water mixed in my nutribullet will make an amazing smoothie, and one of my favorites is putting the soybeans in my air fryer for about 8 minutes at 375 degrees for a crunchy snack. I was wondering if others would share their favorite ways to use cooked soybeans.
Dear Dr. Barnard, could you please do a video regarding menopause and depression?
Yes please! And HRT
Yes please!
Wow. The best video ever. I’m vegan for the last 7 years, 50% raw very little processed, no sugar little berries & obese with huge belly. I’m giving up. But having nuts and delicious tortilla. Each tortilla is 8 gr of fat. Almond Yogurt with 10 gr of fat. I love with it pecans. I’ll try to get it down to 3 gr of fat. Love you Dr. Bernard. 🙏🏻♾💙🌟💎😇
Have you tried Chem AJ recipies?
Maybe you can do one on foods for andropause. There seems to be an epidemic of grumpy old men with low testosterone.
The same diet right?
So true. But also the way you say it sounds funny🤣
😂
@@elena95464 well aging is a natural process just thought I would call it as I see it.

I've found canned black organic soybeans, no salt added (Eden brand). Are those just as good for the hot flashes as the white ones you show here?
Body in Balance is a great book and a very interesting read. Thank you so much Dr Barnard 💐💖 I started to have oatmeal with soy milk in the mornings again and in a few days the hot flashes stopped 🥳
Thank you Chuck, you have and do fantastic Podcasts 💖
I'm almost 44 so thank you for this.

LOVED THIS EPISODE! 🌱🌱🌱
Im thinking soybean hummus would be good too 😇 I always follow Dr Barnards advices. Best to follow experts guidance. Thank you so much for this very informative video.
😘😘😘
I have been watching this video for a while .. it is time to say good by to hot flash and get my good night sleep back.
I have to invest in me today ! thank you.
I’m menopausal but I’m not overweight and I don’t have hot flashes. I have cold flashes and very sensitive nerves, it’s not a one size fits all!
About drynes there?
So are you saying fat helping you?
Recap whole plant based diet,no fat.soya beans are very versatile ,providing organic. It is better to soak soyabeans overnight and you can take the shells out .After cooking in instant pot then put it in soup maker ,add celery sticks ,one onion, gloves of garlic, spices ,delecious soup after 21 minutes .In instant pot press multigrain takes 40 minutes. It is important to soak all types of beans and legumes, change water many times,or ven sprout to reduce anti nutrients in plant diet which is the plant immune system proper predation is essential and no short cutting.
I am lucky in that here in my country soy products like tempeh, tofu and soy milk are easily available and consumed daily by most people (as opposed to the more expensive meat or chicken)
Cool😊😇😘 Merci💯 what ever i eat i have pain and vomiting???
You had me at "Make a list" 😉 Thank you for making #plantbased a possibility for me & my household 💟 🌱🍀
I am a testimony of this. Other than my stomach palpitations I would not know I am on menopause. And this I owe it to a vegan diet.
What I have learned is that I have to eat slow and with small portions and to not drink fluids with my meal because they dilute the juices that help to digest my food. Drinking fluids with food can give you an upset stomach h. Thanks for this video.
This is so interesting .Can someone tell me what to do with Ferum though ,as it is already really low in my blood.should it be ok just with supplements??
Hi - great video - thanks! Is there a reference or source for the comparison of isoflavone content in soy products?
I am a cancer survivor and have been suffering from severe hot flashes for 13 + years, I have been told by my doctors never to have soybeans products. Next, I have been on a vegan diet for a year, lost weight, I feel great but the hot flashes are depressing. I also tried some medications that have been prescribed by my doctor for antidepressants that have shown to reduce hot flashes, and none worked. The side effects were worse for me, yet hot flashes continued. What else can I do?
@@catherinefrederick-jarrett7881 I'm sorry for all you have been through.
I don't know much about breast cancer but I did hear a US oncologist interviewed on an excellent podcast called My Menopause Doctor. This podcast is by a wonderful UK doctor ( Dr Louise Newson ) that is an advocate for women going through menopause and hrt. She has a few episodes focusing on breast cancer & menopause. Dr Avrum Bluming ( oncologist )has written a book called Oestrogen Matters. His wife actually got breast cancer but after treatment she is now safely taking hrt.
I am not saying this is what you should do or even what you can do. But it would be worth listening to the podcast, particularly when Dr Louise Newson interviews Dr Avrum Bluming and they discuss breast cancer and menopause extensively and try to dispell some myths.
Reading Dr Avrum Bluming's book Oestrogen Matters might be worth a read to.
Good luck on your journey 🌻
how about the role of hormones in bone health and dementia proofing?
I feel too hot most the time, even from a glass of water. I have some fears about eating tofu as I read that it can cause stones in the kidneys which I have usually, what do you think about it? I noticed some months ago how little oil or fats I was eating and was trying to add more like in my salads, as I am not fat and need lots of energy to ride my bicycle for 30 minutes to an hour to schools. I felt more enrgy from more pasta or noodles. I was wondering what to eat and with not too much preparation. I live in Vietnam. Any advice? I will try this. And I thought that avocados were helping for menopause as I read that.
I’m 67yrs old and still experiencing extreme severe hot flashes, I’ve got to try this plant based diet
How did it go?
Hi. Someone called JS had sent me a great msg, but i cant seem to find it on here anymore, but i do have a copy of it on my phone. I was hoping to chat to her again & ask if she has had any luck with menopausal insomnia ?
Dr. Neal kinda looks like judge Roy Ferguson, the judge in that viral cat lawyer video :)
Would standard prosess vitamins like drenatrophin or utrophin, containing animal organs, cause a uterine polyp and endemertiosis grow
I’ve tried the soybeans 40 minutes in the Instant Pot both rinsed but not soaked overnight AND, soaked overnight. The overnighted soaked beans are completely tender, still did the 40 minutes of time with the soaked beans but not as much water is then required, just cover the beans with the water then.
THIS is just what I needed 😌 Off to buy a bulk bag of soy beans and Dr Barnards new book.
...consistent wet and dry fasting resolved it for me;o) Cheers
Thanks for the info! Is menopause an obstacle for weight loss?
Hello, yes! Its a hell.😂
Absolutely. For me anyway.
When soaking soybeans overnight (for stoveop method), should they be covered? Also, when cooking soybeans on the stovetop, should they be uncovered while boiling them?
My hot flash triggers were, sugar, alcohol and caffeine.
Thanks to both of you, bcoz thats exsactly my problem since 2 yrs ago, my montlhy period is gone , and i experience many sleepless nigths , so hard to get a nice sleep , and i will try to eat eda mame or soybean as often as i can to solve my problems.
Any suggestions for Crohn's Disease ?
What can I do about weight gain going through menopause eating in moderation but still gaining weight? Thank you.
I’m nearing 48 and I (knock on wood) have not found hot flashes to be my main perimenopausal problem in the least and I’ve had (other) symptoms starting since 42. I’ve noticed things ramping up in this past year. I have graves and medically induced hypothyroid and have been told that soy interferes with the synthroid that I take.
Also, in attempts to maintain my 5’2” 100”lb frame, I walk 4 miles a day and cut my fat intake considerably to accommodate any body changes and fat redistribution.
Dr Barnard… does the positive effect last a short while after the 3 week trial? Can a person reincorporate ,say for example, avocado in week for and then remove it in week 5? I just can’t imagine NEVER eating avocado again. It is one of my staple fruits.🤷🏽♀️
Trying to find a suitable diet has been challenging for me. At 50 I'm having some menopausal symptoms, however I also have Hashimoto's and need to avoid some of the key things that you recommened, such as soy, grains, and legumes, as well as dairy. What are my options if in addition to that I have to avoid all animal products and fats? Eating lots of dry, bland vegetables at every meal for the rest of my life?
KatarinaS. - That's a great question and I've wondered about this too. If you have diet restrictions and want to go vegan it looks like just eating veggies is all that's left. It makes no sense. Wish this would be addressed.
Love you Dr Barnard! Great one tks Chuck, hugs .... Pse can you do a video on menopause depression ~ i see a few women have asked .... Most women are told to eat more of the good fats during menopause, but i will try yr approach & see. Another question : Actress Kristen Bell, who is vegan, struggles wth anxiety & depression ~ why is this ?? Tks guys 😘
It's probably because she's an "actress" ...... Seriously
Lots of omnivores struggle with anxiety & depression...really don't understand your question about Kristin Bell??
@@michellehashish5341 I jst wondered because her being an actress she shld have the best options available to sort this ? Surely a healthy balanced vegan diet shld sort anxiety & depression ?
Check out Chipotle. Almost everything including the rice has oil on it besides being very high in salt. The veggies are swimming in oil. I don't know about the corn, but I consider everything there to be suspicious.
so true😬
It's so easy to cook without oil.
Is it?
True. And so much tastier!!!
YESS!!!
For me cooking without oil has taken practice and I had to get used to the different taste of the food without oil - kinda like something was missing.
My family hated it at first. It's not easy for some of us.
I am sorry many dishes just dont taste right without oil. I use a little bit of oil and I am 54 with no hot flashes .
Hello Dr. Neal how much and long you recommend to take Vit B12
I'm vegan and have 2 friends also in menopause who are vegan and none of us have hot flashes. We wondered if it was the soy. But to be honest I only eat tofu and that's occasionally.

Very awesome Doctor. Simple and straightforward explanation. Just eat plants!
Does the same apply to drug induced menopause flushes due to hormone suppression after breast cancer?
When it comes to menopause symptoms, see a study by Lei with the title "The association between soy isoflavone intake and menopausal symptoms after breast cancer diagnosis: a prospective longitudinal cohort study on Chinese breast cancer patients." The findings were negative (soy did not relieve the symptoms). Another study has similar findings: "There was no evidence that soy food consumption reduced MPS among breast cancer patients. High soy intake may increase the prevalence of hotflashes among premenopausal patients. Our study suggests that soy acts as an estrogen antagonist in breast cancer patients." (see "Soy intake in association with menopausal symptoms during the first 6 and 36 months after breast cancer diagnosis" by Dorjgochoo).
Do the roasted soy still have the nutrients.
Dr Bernard what are your thoughts on bioidentical hormones please

Thank you for all these ideas for the soybeans!
I don't eat legumes, carbs, etc and I focus on proteins and fats and never had hot flashes.
Are black soybeans as nutrient rich as the yellow soybeans?
I was/am doing WFPB & low fat & low carb diet for 2 decades, but after my hysterectomy I still suffered severe meno symptoms. I began taking Vit E daily and all my symptoms resolved in a few days!
I still struggle with weight loss even on strict OMAD & IF (one meal a day & intermittant fasting). Unfortunately, i cant do any soy, cohosh, or other
estrogenics per my oncologist.
I also went through a hysterectomy and what type of vitamin E do you take ?

Thank you for telling us how to eat out at restaurants! It is something I look forward to every weekend!
Wow
I’m vegan. And I started Menopause at 38 years old. I only had one hot flash in 11 years. That’s it nothing else. No problems at all. My mother on the other hand ate fried foods. Fatty meats and smoked. And she suffered thru menopause…
Great information I am up for the challenge. What about using plant based cheese options?
Those are processed and full of fat/oils. They're not healthy!
The only things not in a plant based diet are meats, fish, shellfish, dairy, eggs, and possibly honey. That leaves every other edible thing in the world. Sooooo not limited.
I had a total hysterectomy at the age of 38 and was put on Premarin afterward, I am now 53 and took myself off the Premarin should I be doing anything to ensure that I am not losing bone density?
Exercise, such as weight lifting, is key in preventing loss of bone density (and building strong bones). But do be mindful to execute the exercise in a safe way not to suffer from prolapse after hysterectomy. Also find out plant sources of calcium (like broccoli).

How do you get sufficient protein on this diet??
Yes, you are. I monitor my food intake trough an app.
Legumes, grains, tofu, soy yoghurt, etc…
Will eating the 1/2 cup serving of soybeans stall weight loss?
Dr Barnard is right ...
iuse traditional rice cooker to cook everything....ie..Boil soup.stirfry vge. steamrice.Dessert drinks.porridge.noodle etc
While cake baking etc im using traditional toaster oven ... idont use microwave oven
I could so be vegan and all that, and I want to be, however whenever I eat soy i have a reaction about 2-3 days later where I get itchy eyes and sometimes blepharitis. But I love it and it fills me up, so bummed.
Have you tried fermented or sprouted soy foods like tempeh? I've read that eating soy that way can circumvent some soy related issues.
@@stacym5135 thank you but Ive tried and no luck.

Your insomnia will go away slowly as the other symptoms lessen.
I have suffered from menopause symptoms since i was taken off premarin because I got estrogen receptive breast cancer. Since 2007 I have gained about 45 lbs, dont sleep, if I do I wake up drenched. So my husband & I started plant based diet in dec 2021. I gave lost 20 lbs which is great but no change in menopause symptoms. I do not have increased energy like my spouse. I guess I will try the soybeans, dont know what else to do. Help...drenched
Perhaps you should experiment with full carnivore. You never know until you try it. Listen to Doc Shawn Baker.
Please consider watching Menopause Taylor. I can't believe the doctors aren't helping you manage these symptoms! There are other medications that can help that aren't estrogen based. I'm on clonidine for blood pressure and it can help decrease the intensity. ua-cam.com/play/PLOUBdLFwUtyYimWltwfsEQneVYjIaMQH-.html
Try the soy beans. Very important that is all plant diet with 3 grams of fat per serving.
I take black cohosh supplements and bought the Chilli sleep pad. I sleep well because you can control the temperature of your bed. I keep my Chilli sleep pad at 62. It goes as low as 55 degrees. Try it. Good luck.
I've gotten some relief from night sweats by taking magnesium. Please read up on it. It might be of some help.
That’s a high carb high insulin producing diet that will increase belly fat hormonal imbalances and insulin resistance!
I think what he meant to say is you should soak them then roast them... I cooked them first and took forevermore to dry out...
Hot flashes are the least if medical issues with menopause
I know the focus of this show is menopause but to Chuck’s comments don’t ignore the very real effects of the male version andropause which isn’t talked about enough.
Soy poured cold water on my hot flashes.
Can anyone please tell me how much grams is 0.5cup of cooked soy beans? As a European I find this measuring with cups very unprecise, especially with foods as bulky as beans. Thanks!
I used to feel the same. Checked, and a cup is basically 2,5 dl (2,4) so half a cup would be 1,25 dl. Dont know about weight though, but dl is pretty easy to measure.😊
What if you cannot do soy because cancer treatment?
