  • Water is one of the most important factors in growing pecan trees successfully. Setting up an irrigation system in your pecan orchard will give your pecan trees what they need to grow and produce nuts. Commercial pecan orchards will often require the help of a professional but most hobby pecan orchards can be irrigated with the well that services your home. Watch this video to see the importance of watering your Pecan Trees!

    What a great series of videos. Thank you so much. I live in Kansas and was planning on just getting my tree's from the forestry service but maybe not the best idea? We do have a regional extension agent that I can contact! I certainly would consider myself a "hobby grower". Thanks a million for your work.

      So glad you like the series! I would first check with your regional extension office first, as they may have more insight to your specific area. Mine helped me so much when I was deciding which ones to buy. It's a great hobby, and the trees are beautiful and produce great nuts! Good luck and we should be coming out with 3 more videos here this fall as the nuts are here, so keep watching!

    Thank you .. so the pecan tree needs a lot of water !! And now I understand why my trees are not growing well
    I will try to catch up by watering more
    in fact I did it on purpose not to overwater. Because I said I will let the tree count on itself. it will make big roots and becomes very resistant to summer drought ... but I see that I was wrong
    your baby is very adorable ... cookie ^^

      iMed iMed,
      Thanks for your comment and compliment! He gets his good looks from his momma. Yeah, I was surprised the difference in my watered vs. un-watered trees. It makes more of a difference than I expected. We are about to release a good one on fertilizing. Make sure you look over that one too, as your ph could be off, and/or some other balance. You can get that pecan tree growing in no time!

    I am planning on growing a Pecan farm from scratch on a 25 acre (25 acres @ 30 trees per acre) farm land. I am kinda nervous on how it goes in regards to drip irrigation. Your videos are very helpful.

      That is so exciting! I understand the nervousness! I hope we have helped you out a little on this topic. Kinda just sharing my experiences with my trees. If you find any other helpful tips post them here! We love hearing what others are doing successfully.

    Hello do pecans tolerate salinity water irrigation? we have a well and we are really close to the sea so the water has high salinity here.Thank you

    • @BagANut
      @BagANut  Рік тому +1

      Hi, thanks for watching our videos and for the question. I am not sure about the salinity factor. My advice would be to try and see if others in your area have been successful in growing pecans. I would also check with your county extension office as they may be able to answer that question, specific to your area.

    I have a question. I've seen a plastic tube white or black on the bottom of the young pecan tree around the trunk of the tree, any information on what is this used for, for water or keeping the tree straight? Thank you for your videos !!!

      @@BagANut I really have enjoyed watching your videos. I just started my orchard this year. I have 7 to 8 acres acres but for the first year I only started with 15 trees bear route 8 to 10 feet tall I was wondering if you could help me figure out how much water I need to water the newly planted trees for the first year being it is a warm February in South Carolina but keep it up The videos are great. You do a really good job. Thanks, Shawn.

    I have 20 cultivars (Kanza / Gafford), but this is a rural location without electricity or water. This is the second year for the trees.. I set up a ram pump in the creek, and pump water up to drip emitters on each tree. The emitters I have are 1 GPH, so each sapling should get around 24 gal/day. There is good drainage, and the dirt is neither clay or sand. Do you think I'm watering too much? I've heard that you can drown pecan trees. Thanks!

    • @BagANut
      @BagANut  Рік тому

      My gut feeling is that, that sounds like too much water for a young tree. The soil in my orchard sounds similar to yours. My trees around the same age did well getting 4 gallons, twice a week.

      @danb708 Рік тому

      @@BagANut Thanks so much. I'll take your advice and cut back to 4 hours twice a week and see what the moisture meter says. -- Appreciate your channel! BTW, do you have any experience with native trees? I found over a dozen in a densely packed canopy on a hillside across from my orchard. I cleared all the trees around them, and am looking forward to seeing what they produce in the fall. They are a little strange looking, since they grew in a dense canopy they are very, very tall with branches and leaves only at the top. Can't wait for August!!!
