I've decided to not try to "win the algorithm", and only make videos about what I'm genuinely interested in. Thank you very much for watching this video about Pecans. If you'd like to support a guy in Alabama making videos about (among other things) Pecans, please consider supporting here: www.patreon.com/smartereveryday. I send literally every Patreon supporter a really cool baseball with a Smarter Every Day logo on it.

The way food gets from the field to your plate is *_NEVER_* mundane. To even so much as imagine that process is mundane is shortsighted and ignorant. Son, you literally *_OWE_* your life to farmers. You likely wouldn't have even been born, nor your parents, without farmers. And even if you had been born, your life would be significantly shorter without farmers. Because you would have to do it all yourself, and it is hard work, real hard work. The work is so hard, doing everything yourself, that it takes a massive toll on the body, significantly shortening a lifespan.

We would then take them to be cracked. We would spend days sorting and bagging every one before thanksgiving in 2lbs bags. My grandfather would give away most of them to people to cook pies and sell what he could and would buy us kids Christmas presents. Having that much stuff on the screen causes the bitrate to go up. youtube limits it's bitrate pretty low, so if you come across a video that has a ton of stuff going on, it'll look like that. That's why you get a better video watching at a higher resolution even if your display doesn't support it, because the higher the video resolution, the higher the bitrate cap..... more or less. Ya know, I’ve been wondering how all sorts of things are manufactured/grown/gathered. But until I saw this video I never really thought about how pecans were grown and harvested. But this is a really interesting subject once you look into it a bit. Thanks for making this video mate! It was (as always) really interesting.

My nut harvesting system is with much less valuable species of nuts, absolutely no farm equipment or tools, and I still feel very content when I'm doing it and when I'm done. Especially my first year I'll fully admit: Not only was there no money in it, but I was working at literal prison labor type wages if you wanted to put it into money terms. But it's not always for money, sometimes it's for the outdoors, for the knowledge, for the future of preserving these trees and these skills. If anyone reading this doesn't have pecans where they live: See if you've got black walnuts, English walnuts, or any type of hickory nut.
