  • In this episode we talk mainly about the Kiss Tribute album from 1994 Kiss My Ass but we do go off and have fun about all sorts of things. On that note we're making some changes and our next episode will mark the start of a new era. We're opening things up a bit. Not really changing too much but expanding which is going to be a great thing! See you next week and definitely comment what you also think about the songs included in this very interesting collection of tunes.

    A couple more honorable mentions:
"Deuce" by Redd Kross kicks ass!
And for something truly surreal, check out the clip of Linda Carter singing "I Was Made for Loving You" from a TV special, accompanied by a troupe of male dancers in "Dynasty" drag. It's...something.

I remember really liking the KMA video... saw a lot of Kool stuff had never seen before and thought the Kiss members footage was better presented than Konfidential.
I also remember continuing to see so much more of Eric Singer compared to the next to nothing we saw of Eric Carr. Thanks petty Paul!
Still, going dig out that DVD and watch again.
    Great episode again guys!!!

Funny. I'd call "sound of white noise" Anthrax's first great album. John Bush absolutely rules! He's good in Armored Saint, but he was amazing with Anthrax. 🤘🤯🤘

Yeah I grew up on the earlier Belladonna stuff, so I'm partial to that. To be honest I haven't heard much after White Noise but I'll assume it's pretty damn good!

Love the early Robin Trower albums, are you a fan Beach Boys Love You album?

Oh yes. It's weird and quirky, but I absolutely love it. A top 10 Beach Boys album? No. But what I consider to be their last great album.

STP recorded Watching You but weren't allowed by their label to be on the album.

How cool would have that been!! You know Gene and Paul hated that it couldn't be included!

I remember when this album came out (It was the summer before my senior year of high school). We didn't have a dedicated hard rock/metal station at the time. We had an "alternative pop-rock" station and a "college radio"-esque station (Decent music. Overly pretentious DJs). Neither one had anything to do with KISS up until this point, but when KISS MY ASS dropped, the alternative pop-rock station started playing PLASTER CASTER and ROCK AND ROLL ALL NITE (Because of the bands who covered them) and the college radio station started playing DETROIT ROCK CITY (The Bosstones hadn't crossed over big time yet, so they were still "cool"). Really enjoyable album (Although I can take or leave Extreme's cover of STRUTTER. On a related note... Unlike KISS, Van Halen has made multiple stops in Hawai'i; not sure if it was ever with David Lee Roth, though. I saw them in '98 when Gary Cherone was fronting the band because a friend had an extra ticket. I thought the Blaisdell would be sold out because Van Halen was definitely a legacy act at that point, but they closed a lot of the arena and there were still a lot of seats leftover. Cherone is a great on-stage presence, but when he did Hagar and Roth songs, people just didn't react the way I think he thought they would. Which is sad because the guy was giving 200%). Great episode as always, gentlemen! Take it easy!

Michael!!! Yeah Cherone is an amazing performer and singer.
Still boggles my mind why Kiss only played your great state once!! Which leads to an obvious question....did you ever get to see them?

@@anywayyousliceitreviews Unfortunately, I never got to see them live. Even trying to schedule a trip around a date where they played "close" to here (Like in California, Washington, Oregon, or Nevada) just never panned out (For one reason or another).

@@anywayyousliceitreviews It's disappointing, but I think luck has a lot to do with it (In regards to bands making money here). Up until the late '90s, we DID have some good shows here, but by the early 2000s it was a definite RISK -VS- REWARD. Even when Pearl Jam and U2 sold out Aloha Stadium (Respectively), most of those tickets were sold out of state (Especially to concert goers from Japan). And if I'm not mistaken, I think they both played here in the same year...

Thanks for an enjoyable listen during my long commute home.
KISS My Ass is a conundrum. (There's a long word, like gymnasium.) It was such an exciting time because, like you pointed out, almost everything pointed to an upcoming reunion. The KISStory book, the message to Ace & Peter, long-form videos hyping the glory days, etc. Hell, Peter even released his Cat #1 cd with half his face in makeup.
I think the cover was a cool concept. But that's almost where it ends for me. While it was being made, Gene gave interview after interview claiming "the coolest of the cool" were contributing songs. Then it comes out with all these B-level (and below) bands. Garth was HUGE at the time, true. But probably not in the wheelhouse of most KISS fans. The only track I enjoy is Yoshiki's orchestral Black Diamond. Play that nonchalantly sometime with others in the room and then watch their face when they're told it's from a KISS song.
I think I've maybe listened to the rest 2 or 3 times, tops. And that was....30 years ago?!?!? But yeah, perhaps I should give Toad's RNRAN another listen. I just remembered I have the Mighty Mighty Bosstones song on colored vinyl 45, buried inside those worthless (yet priceless) KISS scrapbooks I can't let go of.
But man, that Die Arzte version of Unholy.....GARBAGE. As you aptly put it: "Or it sucks." Lol

      @anywayyousliceitreviews  Місяць тому

God that version of Unholy🤮 certainty agree that the Yoshiki song is impressive!
You sound like me a month ago. Hadn't really listened to it much. I'm glad I did. Give a relisten! I thank Peter for suggesting we do this one. Some good stuff!!
As always thanks for checking in, and glad we made your commute a bit more tolerable!

Who knows if Gene was “ fibbing” or not, but he claimed Madonna was going to do I Was Made, Ozzy Watchin’ You and some others. Who knows

I agree with the sentiments about Janis. She always sounded so contrieved and forced. Put that voice in a girl that was and/or claimed to be a real "soul" singer, and people would laugh to beat hell.
Anyway, not because of his outrageous popularity, but the Garth Brooks version of "Hard Luck Woman" won the day with this album. The rest is a blur in my memory. At the time, I worked in "triple A" radio (ask someone over 45) and I considered The Gin Blossoms, The Lemonheads and Toad The Wet Sprocket were pick "go-to" bands from the era.
